Not entirely. Still, I haven't heard anyone call me "young lady" for more than a year now. I guess the voice change absolutely resolved the issue.Quote:
It helped... so it didn't absolutely resolve the issue then?
What did I just witness?!?!
Really what is that above...
Isn't it obvious https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CNSaurw6E_Q

Monk, that gif is too scary. I want it removed. :P
;)
Monk made my avatar. Now that I think about it, I think he is disturbed. :)
I caught one today. But I was never a boy scout, so my knots were just absolutely terrible. She managed to escape. Any advice for next time?

Okay, so my plan might not work on long-nailed witches or Medusa, but other than that there shouldn't be any problems. Because you do have a cave and a wooden club right?!
Annnnnnnd this is the point where I rain on everyone's parade and point out that jokes about rape are neither PG-13, nor cool.
Quote:
To all those men who don't think the rape jokes are a problem:
I get it—you're a decent guy. I can even believe it. You've never raped anybody. You would NEVER rape anybody. You're upset that all these feminists are trying to accuse you of doing something, or connect you to doing something, that, as far as you're concerned, you've never done and would never condone.
And they've told you about triggers, and PTSD, and how one in six women is a survivor, and you get it. You do. But you can't let every time someone gets all upset get in the way of you having a good time, right? Especially when it doesn't mean anything. Rape jokes have never made YOU go out and rape someone. They never would; they never could. You just don't see how it matters.
I'm going to tell you how it does matter. And I tell you this because I genuinely believe you mean it when you say you don't want to hurt anybody, and that it's important to you to do your best to be a decent and good person, and that you don't see the harm. And I genuinely believe you when you say you would never associate with a rapist and you think rape really is a very bad thing.
...
A quick and simple rule for language and behavior if you want to be a decent person: Ask yourself, who is more likely to be made to feel comfortable around me based on whatever I'm about to say/do? Rape survivors? Or rapists? Who is more likely to be made to feel uncomfortable? If you're doing something that is more likely to make rapists feel comfortable and/or rape survivors feel uncomfortable, then don't do it!
I don't make rape jokes - but I still love 'em.
I will agree with Subotan here, but not because of any feminist beliefs. (Not bringing that up for the heck of it. Subotan and I are having a debate about it in another thread) It is wrong to make jokes about people getting raped. Whether those are prison jokes or drag em off to a cave a rape em jokes. It is just not cool.
Whatever floats your moral boat.
I will note, however, that the blog post Subotan linked was a bit silly. "It's offensive" remains a far more persuasive reproof than "it gives succor to (potential) rapists."
... Drop it. Not the place to discuss the subject; Now back to picking up potential love interests.
Agreed, which is one of the reasons I set my views apart from his wishy-washy stuff in my post. ~;) Still though, it is not a good thing to do, and could really cause grief to any rape victims reading the posts, so it is best to just stick to jokes that are clean and, eh, actually funny! :P
Oh, come on! I made a reference to those stupid stone-age comics. You know, this kind of stuff:
https://img200.imageshack.us/img200/...neage22875.jpg
How anyone can find that offensive is beyond me. I didn't even imply any kind of rape.
Oh, so cavemen whack women they are attracted to over the head with a club and drag them into their cave to...help them with their hair? Really?
The whole point is that a caveman is a hormone driven brute who takes what it wants. What does a caveman see in a cavewoman? If it is consensual, then why the need to beat her over the head and drag her off? Come on Paltmull, I am sure you can figure it out.
Ah heck, I guess I did imply something that had to do with rape, but I still have a hard time believing that a rape victim would be offended by that joke. The thing with rape jokes or nazi jokes or any other kind of jokes that could be found offensive, is that it all depends on who it is you make fun of. By referring to rape as something that uncivilized cavemen would do, you make fun of rapists rather than rape victims.
So simple a caveman can get it.
Except Vuk, that is.
Unfortunately, this thread has completely veered from it's original subject material and into territory that is decidedly un-Frontroomish; as such, I have taken the decision to close the thread.
Feel free to create a topic in the Backroom if you wish to further discuss the social and psychological implications of 'jokes' such as these, though I'd ask that you keep it clean and be mindful of the feelings of others in doing so.
