How many provinces will it consist of?
Looks great, just one question, when will the VI version come out? Also the map looks great Moria Mithril,SHire Nicoretia, oh the possibilities.
Hey I just downloaded the METW Beta and everything is fine, except when I go to battle, the screne were you select a faction, and I press accept, it won't work? I have version 1.0 of MTW, so does that mean I have to do the patch or what?
Yep you need 1.1
Hey listen to this, I didn't get the Custom Battle to work but I got the campaign going Got pikemen and such, and have taken over Germany, Italy, France, England, Poland, and am advanceing on Byzantium. Its sort of freaky because with NTW I couldn't do that and with this one i could. Is this a glitch or am I making a breakthough hehehehehehe.
No more news from ME:TW team? http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cg...s/confused.gif
What's up guys?
How is it going?
What is the status of this project now?
Maybe some new screens or sth like that?
http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cg...s/confused.gif
Playtesting is going on, a balance is being achieved in the unit stats.
Also, there is a good bit of work going on in the camp map department.
It´s already posted. Look above. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cg...cons/smile.gif http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cg...ns/biggrin.gif http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cg...ons/smokin.gifQuote:

and as we have VI now - then you can really make a scenario without the pope, and with LMM5 easing the legwork somewhat...its all suddenly got plausable http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cg...cons/smile.gif
Welsh:Elves
Vikings:Rohan
Saxons:Mordor
Picts:Isengard
Mercia,Scots,Ireland,Northumbria no idea
So any new info? Doing the mod on VI whats the nations that will be active, and which time period?
So what are the provinces gonna be? And how long till vi versian keep up the good work boys http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cg...icons/wave.gif
What's up with this mod? I mean I haven't heard anything new about ME:TW since about a week. You know, you just could drop few words from time to time and say how is it going. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cg...s/rolleyes.gif
I haven't see DJ or the METW team in a while.
(dont worry Eastside Character:) )
Now for news...
Helper has made fantastic strides on the Camp Map... the muntains look superb

http://helper.metw.net/images/campma...e-misty-sm.jpg
http://helper.metw.net/images/campma...-mordor-sm.jpg
The playtesters have finnished all the tests (and believe me there was a LOT of testing) for Isengard vs Rohan. They developed an ingenious system based on spreadsheet value tables. We hope its going to be very balanced because of this.
DJ is going to start working on the Gondorian and Mordor troop Bifs next. The army rosters are beeing finalised now.
The background team is beginning to write the appropiate descriptions now.
The front-end files will be completely modded soon enough.
(again, screenshots will be provided of everything as soon as we feel a preview is ready:) )
Edit: Added the sample image of the mountains
about the campaign map?
is there a lukmap and are there script files yet?
Welly said he was going to use the all-conquering and soon-arriving LMM5 for this http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cg...cons/smile.gif
I am looking foward to it keep up the good work guys - I know how much work this involves, I did this last year - making the lukmap and script files with two other people - and we did it by hand...and the units...but the pre-VI version of the game and some errors hidden in the hundereds of lines of script we did meant that it didn't work, I really hope this does http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cg...cons/smile.gif
Dont be annoyed Martyr http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/pat.gif I know you are all bussy right now. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cg...cons/dizzy.gif And I think that's good http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cg...icons/wave.gif Hope you wont get annoyed this time. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cg...cons/smile.gifQuote:

News was sparse in the past month but that will change from now on. The first post has been edited with news from the ME:TW forums.
Cheers, ME:TW - Team
The forum is down at the moment, I am working on this, I hope to have it fixed by this evening.
Forum are up again. In the near future it will move however to our, or more like Martyrs, www.metw.net domain.

So what's the status of ME:TW right now guys?
Duke John is preparing to begin work on the faction units for Mordor and Gondor and the campaign map is been finished off as far as I know from reading posts at the METW forum.
Not an actual ingame screenshot, but below is a composition image with my Fell Beast model on which the Nazgul go to battle:

DJ for the nazguls fell beast i would suggest that (if its possible) one could give them smthing like fire balls of artillery (from the air) and thus having them in more devastating feature. This mod is greatest medicine to the delay of RTW.
how did you make the Nazgul?? that is an amazing feature http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/eek.gif
whats the page for the MNTW mod
http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cg...s/confused.gif
Guys, the fell beast isn't going to breath fire (or fart it out of its ass either) In fact, we're making the Nazgul very strong defensively, but definitely NOT a killing machine There will probably be NO Gandalf unit, so having a Nazgul super-hero would unbalance things. The main reason why the Nazguls are included at all is that they were Mordor's best generals. They will influence the battle by giving strong morale bonuses to their troops (V & V Excellent Leader) and general 8-9 stars - not by mowing down legions of enemies.
This is a wargame mod, so none of the heros are included: No Gimli, No Legolas, No Sauron, No Saruman, No Gandalf, No Aragorn units. (We didn't want Sauron taking the field for instance, since he never did if he could help it). There's also no Balrog unit either (same problem - people would want to use it as a super-tank to conquer middle earth). The mod is not based on the movie and while set in Tolkien's universe it won't be possible to replay the history of the war of the ring exactly either.
That said, it should be extremely fun just for what it is - a Middle Earth mod set in the late 3rd age.
Beautiful shots of the campmap mates, the best I have seen yet, keep up the outstanding workLOSQuote:

B.
This is LOTR-Helper. I am doing all those mountains (and rivers and coasts) on the campaign map, and I work on the background team.
Here's why we cannot give you a date or a schedule:
-None of us are getting paid a dime.
-All of us are doing this on the side from "Real Life".
-Some of us still go out and have a few (or more) beers and socialize.
-We are all committed to excellence and quality.
-We are doing everything as faithful to Middle Earth as humanly possible.
-We are striving to have this be fun *and* enchanting.
-We must make things work well in the MTW engine.
-We have to debate, decide and develop many solutions/problems and confusions (that only a person doing a complete conversion would understand).
This will take a long time. It will be done before Rome TW comes out, but you will not have a full version of our METW mod for Christmas... unless Santa loans us all his little elves, although I would personally much prefer a few vixen (nudge nudge wink wink). So, we can't be more specific than this schedule.
WHEN IT GETS DONE, IT WILL BE DONE.
HOW CAN I HELP?
If you are talented or willing to work hard and have lots of time and enthusiasm, join our Forums and post something that we can look at. If we like it, we will ask you to join, and then dump work on you, or ignore you and expect you to pull yourself up by your bootstraps Some examples you can run with:
-Make a complete set of units descriptions and stats for one faction (like the elves or dwarves or Gondor, etc.)
-Make a complete tech-tree for one faction's building/technologies.
-Make a graphic for a unit BIF
-Make pencil sketches of units/structures used on info parchments.
-Write a set of virtues and vices, Middle-Earth style.
-Read the OLD BOARDSand find a problem or issue and solve it.
-Do some “colour” graphics for the in-game menus, portraits, or titles, etc.
-Say something particularly clever and witty.
-Flatter us shamelessly.
BUT I AM UNTALENTED AND LAZY, I CANNOT DO IT
OK I admit that I am too. In fact I can barely type this next sentence. Now that we had that sharing moment, and you are under my charismatic powers: recruit a friend who has talent. Even lazy or untalented people have friends. We need artists to do all kinds of tasks. The artist need only love Tolkien and be *talented*, and work within the artistic style we have developed so far, no gaming/programming/nerdiness required.
You can also post constructive and thoughtful compliments and criticism here, or at the forums as well as encouragement Remember this mod will NOT get done if even one key team member quits. Patrician died. King David got discouraged (at least I think) because some people savaged his mod (at least KD said they did in a post he wrote right before disappearing). After that, no more Patrician. KD Where are you? You coy Spaniard. Seriously, "Real Life", Exhaustion, Stress, Tragedy, and generally feeling completely unappreciated inhibit 90% of all geniuses from developing their genius. Yes, there were at least another 9 more Einsteins out there who all vanished into history like so many little Hiroshimas and Nagasakis. "If only little Timmy had had nicer friends, we could have had hand-held disintegration rays today." Uhh, on further reflection, perhaps one Einstein was enough.
Disclaimer: No offense intended to Shogun/METW Japanese friends, nor to Germanic Jewish scientists, lazy people, untalented people, sexy women who are often referred to as “vixens” by sexist, wolfish men like me, wolfish men like me (rrrr), the diverse range of people who queerly refer to themselves as elves or fairies, people who hate Christmas, Santa, and especially no offense to King David, I love you man, Patrician was the S#*%.
LOTR-Helper.
What about those talented and lazy people, can't leave them out http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cg...icons/wink.gif.
I'll help I'll be the idiot who stands there and acts stupid but is actually providing spiritual enlightment and another mouth to feed.
Good luck,
and may the stars shine on you

Any news of Gondor and Mordor?
Will siege weapons be included? I just finished a custom battle with Isengard against Rohan on LOTR-Helper's Helm's Deep map; and taking a citadel of that size would take a HUGE number of troops to take it just by storming the gates.
When are you guys gonna post Gondor and Mordor's unit tech tree? If it isn't done, what units do you guys have in mind?
The only siege weapons I know of is the battering ram, but they may not use its
Siege weapons
Battering rams and such are at the moment not feasible because they require 2 BIFs and we would much rather use them for more regular troop types.
The factions will get the regular siege weapons, ie ballistas, probably made a bit more usefull, catapults and ,as the most advanced, the mangonels.
Mordor and Gondor
The armylists are still being edited, but we can already say the following:
- There will be 3 types of Mordor Orcs: Snaga (lesser Orcs), Orcs and Uruk-Hai. Each with their own graphics.
- Mordor will be able to field Olog-Hai's; Trolls equipped with large hammers and bucklers.
- In campaign mode there will be the Nine dreadfull Nazgul who greatly improve morale but are poor fighters (and consequently useless for custom battles).
Cheers, ME:TW - Team

Any new screens? How is the Mordor and Gondor units going?
Hi Duke John,
I just wanted to say, keep up the great work. I checked out EA's new Lord of The Rings game and, as usual, it looks like a let-down. You can't play as Sauron or any of his forces, etc....Bigith Deal.
I agree with you. MTW has the perfect engine for this mod. And, it could be the greatest mod ever. As someone else posted, if it takes 6 months, it's worth the wait to me. All the factions seem great. Will there be a goblin faction (Misty Mountains)? Will Sauron be the Papacy (pope)? He keeps coming back. To me, that would be a logical choice.
Lastly, what tools are you using to create the mod? Is there a list or a link for all of the tools? I'd like to try my hand, ever so slightly, at some point. How do you do the skins?
Thanks very much.
-Bigmac

Any Updates????
***BUMP***
TOO GOOD TO PASS UP. ANy updates?
A draft for the Mordor army list has been posted at the dev's forum here:
http://www.metw.net/forum....2e6bd4a
Why are the Nazgul poor fighters?
I always got the impression that they were badasses.
The TW engine does not lend itself well to RPG type situations, where one "uber" unit (or in this case, solitary man) takes on 4000 men. It leads to absolutely terrible gameplay, and simply doesnt work very well. Also, the Nazgul are less of a fighting force in the books and more dread inducing leaders. They will have very high dread and thus be a unit that one does not commit to the front lines, but uses as a driving force behind those cowering snaga haihttp://www.metw.net/forum/images/smi...on_twisted.gif http://www.metw.net/forum/images/smi...on_twisted.gif
Many of Mordor's units will have low moral, only being effective when under strong leadership and in huge numbers. That is why it will be vital for the player to keep the Nazgul alive, otherwise the massive armies of the Dark One will simply rout. To encourage the player not to attack with a Nazgul, we will give them poor attack.
Is there any new sounds or music in this mod ?
We certainly plan it, we had a number of people who did some work on that aspect, but we are REALLY looking for more people to create sounds for the mod. If anyone here has some experience with sound modding, please let us know http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cg...cons/smile.gif
Cool- I'll change the intro to something from the LOTR soundrack.
The NTW sounded great when 'Over the Hills and farway' played when it started up http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cg...icons/cool.gif
No man, cant do that. At least not for inclusion in the mod... unfortunately we can touch ANY copyrighted stuff. To the extent that we cant even include the ring into gameplay. If you own the soundtrack yourself, as I do, you can use it for yourself, as I do... But we cant offer a source of illegally shared music. It will get our mod shut down quicker than you can say NewLineCinema. We cany use images, sounds, video... anything from the films. We cant use direct copies of Tolkien's own drawings, we have to get permission for every bit of art we use. Its a bitch, believe me I know, but we know from a legal pov (we have consulted lawyers), we seriously wouldnt last a week if anything was taken from the films. Then we would simply have to close shop, all the work for nothing... http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cg...cons/frown.gif http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cg...cons/mecry.gif
Thats a bummer. I'll just have to find the tracks on CD when I get home tonight http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cg...icons/wink.gif
Minor Update
DJ has posted screens of Gondorian units as well as a showing of his work-in-progress Mordor Orc and Uruk-Hai models. It would seem that the Gondorian and Mordor units will come in 2 seperate Beta packs, due to the time consuming creation of the orc animations. Enjoy
Screens here:
http://www.metw.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=4
About elves:
Make them 2 factions. One high elves and one wood elves.
Why?
Wood Elves were (as said before) Welsh like armies. However, the High Elves fought more like the Byzantines: highly trained but expensive troops, CAVALRY (Remember Glorfindel, Arwen, the sons of Elrond; all on horseback!http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cg...icons/wink.gif, you know them. I'd say for colors blue and white (or silver).
Only problem is that the territory of both factions is extremely small. For the High Elves north and south Lindon, the grey havens, Rivendell, and maybe some lands in the south of Eriador. For the Wood Elves Lorien, north Mirkwood and an outpost at the end of the great river.
You should state what you said at the dev's site. That is the place to discuss the mod in more depth. Some of the devs rarely come to this thread besides updates.Quote:

Arwen on horseback? Where? When? Ok I give you that she did ride a horse at the end of ROTK, but that was not a warhorse, nor was she in any way dressed for battle, rather marriage.Quote:

Minor Update
Gondor Unit Descriptions are up here (bottom of page):
http://www.metw.net/forum....75e7405
Maybe Arwen wasn't riding a warhorse, who cares? It certainly doesn't prove any point, except that elves did have horses. You're pointing out a mistake, but you're not proving my point is wrong, so your statement is kinda unfitting...Quote:

I'd disagree that the outpost would be abandonned, but it could be easily left. Not a big issue for me. Still the wood elven territory would be so small, that it would be impossible. And I was trying to justify putting in 2 separate elf factions... For example CA and WesW aren't always following exact historical facts, sometimes you've got to think of gaming balance as well.
Remember, I know the books good too, so you may want to try to realise what I am meaning, instead of just pointing out any "mistakes" in my message. Maybe I haven't been clear enough before, I hope this post enlightens you.
They could atleast be added as archers with good armour only trainable in the Shire.Quote:

But I want hobbits in, atleast as region specific troops. But I admit they won't work as a faction.
Hobbits would add an interesting effect. I always wandered what it would be like to besiege Minis Tirith (sp?) with the hairy feet midgets (can't say dwarfs in LOTR case)
It would be great to have the little chaps in there, Not as a full faction due to there subdued nature, but even if it is a unique unit for holding the shire. After all Hobbits have been known to adventure (mainly the Took family, before Bilbo Baggins anyway) so would feature. Especially to defend there peaceful lives.
I really can't give you answer on the Hobbit unit situation. If you are really interested in the outcome of the mod, or can help in any way possible, just join the developer's forum. You'll have a lot more luck getting your answers there then in here. Duke John, for instance, is so busy with the mod, he doesen't stop by here much. Unless it's to drop off a beta.
