They are all very different sports. I'm a huge baseball fan, Atlanta Braves to be specific...
But all the sports listed are great. As long as no one is juiced up and ruining the integrety of their respective sport. I do prefer baseball out of all listed though. Hitting a round ball with a round bat "squarely" while its traveling from 91 to 100 MPH is the hardest thing for a player to do out of all sports in my opinion...

I still vote baseball, but hurling is no slouch of a game.

I agree with you, english fútbol is the best ~ . But the Premier League, isn't, the ambient here is lived like "life & death" thing, it's almost a thrill all the time while you stand on the stadium (you've to watch your pockets too ~D ), there, if it was not, for the hooligans, it would be like a reunion to have some tea. In any case the fact is that between Brazil and Argentina we generate the best players of fútbol ever, and you breed on that. As I have had the fortunate experience of having played all the sports mentioned:
American football: a couple of teams here in Norway and I used to train with the center on Bergen Bulldogs whilst in college.
Soccer the sport where you actually use your feet to some extent: Played actively until High school.
Baseball: I have a bat, glove and ball. Introduced to the game by some Mormon friends and actually tried to organise a local team in Bergen.
Cricket: I used to live in Australia and played some with Australian kids.
Conclusion: Soccer is the most fun sport to play… and hence is the better.
In the Premier League, you get robbed before you've even made it to the stands. Forty quid to see Phil Neville?Quote:

Baseball is the best sport the, imo, for the reasons so eloquently put by Proletariat. The statistics most of all really appeal, you can really get into the game.
However if the Red Sox don't get out of this sudden slump of form in a hurry, I may change my mind! GAH! :dizzy2:
Go Yankees!!!!!! ~;)Quote:

They've dropped a few recently, but they've also averaged about 8 runs a game over the last month. Manny and Ortiz are on fire. Schilling returns to the rotation thursday, so there's hope for the pitching staff.Quote:

I remember when the Patriots won the Superbowl for the first time a few years ago. All you heard from the New England fans at the end of the game was the chant, "Yankees suck! Yankees suck!" Best baseball fans ever.
I know the run production has been there for the most part, but there are many holes opening up and it is worrying. The bullpen is weak, very weak. Every game you cringe when the ball is handed over to anyone but Timlin, it isn't good.
Yes Schilling back in the rotation Thursday but he isn't the real Schilling yet, it could still go pear shaped. :/
I watch all the Sox games - well a vast majority - via mlb tv, and this road trip has been desperate. Against the Angels our offence has even been very poor, including Manny and Big Papi. Maybe I am just worried about the Yankees creeping ever closer and seemingly playing well.
Anyway, will get easier vs KC. :D
I missed today's game because of Fox's idiotic black out policy. (Pay $160 for a season of baseball and they still manage to screw me out of games here and there. F you, Fox.)Quote:

Anyway, I'm a little tipsy and starting to ramble (hijack). I'm just kinda psyched to see another Sox fan from across the pond.

Ice hockey is the best team sport.
I still maintain that Australian rules Watergolfhangrugbybuzkashi would be the best team sport and spectator sport.
shinty and hurling are one and the same, shinty is just the Scottish name for it, and the sticks are called camans in shinty, methinks. I enjoyed watching Donegal try to get to the Gaelic football Ulster final last year, it was a good game.Quote:

Real football for me... also known as "soccer" I rather enjoy Cricket too.
American football appears to be rugby in suits of armour. Do they actually kick the ball? I know you can rush and pass... but do they ever kick the ball... with their feet?
Baseball; we have a game a bit like baseball here in England, it's called "rounders"... children play it. How many countries compete in the world series out of interest?
Do any of you know what is the most popular proffessional sport? That is the most watched?
NASCAR........... :embarassed:
I would say yes, is there another way to look at the subject. And it's football btw.Quote:

Baseball is an adult game, though childishness is quite prevalent. Moreover, one could argue that no country competes in the world series out of interest, but rather for contractual reasons.Quote:

If your teams any good its used more often to kick off or score points. Remember generally their are two kicking plays after every touchdown.Quote:

Its auto racing. And by a wide margin I might add. Geez how many proffessional racing organizations are there in the US alone? Im sure Brtain and most of Europe have many also. I dont know about there but here even the small quarter mile tracks have proffesional races on them like Nascar Modifieds. Also a big race can draw 250000 people into the stands. No other sport can touch that.
Perhaps you're right, but football is the most played of all the games. So i still say is the more popular, because it's the most appealing to the people, the populis. Is the cheapest game that i know, you only need to rocks, an plain surfice where to play and a ball made of something, simple as that. And more important it's fun.
And also you're considering car racing as a whole, while most people sparate it into specific types of racing, while football is the same in all places of the world, except for USA i think, they have some strange rules there. ~
"El automovilismo desplaza al ciclismo y a las motos y se convierte en el segundo deporte más visto en TV, tras el fútbol"
Heading of an article in this link on a spanish web site. Translation:
"The automovilism (as a whole) displaced ciclism and motos and turns into the second sport most saw in TV, under football." ~D :duel:
Is it fair to class motor sport as one sport? I mean, if we are going to do that, why dont we take ball games as a category? Formula1, drag racing, superbikes or Nascar etc... are very different sports, and cant really be classed as one.
According to the good patrons of this site Soccer is 113% better than American "football" and 540% better than Baseball.
Just wanted to point out the statistics of subjectivity. ~
Not proffesionally.Quote:

Not motor sports but auto racing.Quote:

Rugby. And don't go telling me you need to be of a certain size, that's bullocks. My friend is an first XV full back at 5'1'' and he's good at his job, most of the backs are 5'3'' and we won the middlesex cup. Ok, one of the backs was this person who we all reckon is on steroids...
I'm a flanker and I'm not exactly big by any means whatsoever.
I think you need more stamina for rugby than American Football, less stoppages to my knowledge. Also, let's just say I've accompannied enough people to hospital to say that it is pretty much war in a maul against people larger than yourself (which will happen unless you're pretty tall indeed.) Rules are mroe strictly enforced at scoolboy level but unfortunately scrums collapse much more.
So how was ''football'' better than the real deal again?
Trivia time.
Which country won the last Olympic gold medal in Rugby? The last two, as a matter of fact. ~D

I think that you missed the statistics man 1. Football 2. Automovilism :wall: . Anyway... What does it haves to do if it's played professionally or not? You're looking for the most popular game in the world, the world popular means "of the people" not of the rich, or of the autos fans, of all the people, and football it's without doubt the most popular. And...Are you kidding me? Now i realize that it's not the most professionalized game ~ . Seriously man, there're 22 players for team, with more than 20 teams average per country, with more than 50 countries that have professional football and more than 3 divisions that are also professional with another 20+ teams for every division. Come on! :book:Quote:

Your joking correct? OK Ill take you at your word. Auto Racing is for Automoblies while motor racing covers anything that is motorized including motorcycles, snow mobiles, boats, aircraft and wave runners just for starts. If you make it motor sports its the number 1 sport in every category even though some of you claim these guys are noteven atheletes.Quote:

Still the single event most watched is the World Cup of the FIFA, that makes football the most popular. If one is better than the other is just a matter of tastes.
I suggest your comprehension of the english language is whats at fault here.I never stated proffessional equals watched. I asked what was the most Watched Proffessional sport.Quote:

Well ive tried but i cant find any numbers. Again though a race can handle crowds far larger than any soccer stadium and the number of proffessional races held in The US alone on a weekend is staggering eclipsing all the other proffessional sports here put together. Of course during the winter NFL football takes the crown as theres not much racing going on. No other sport can get a quarter of a million people to show up for an event.Quote:

But how many recing events of such a scale are there on a given weekend? In addition I do not think at all that the importance of motorsport in the US is any indication for its global importance.Quote:

And again, you are comparing apples and oranges. If you take auto-racing as a category (not individual sports like F1, or NASCAR on their own...), why cant we take all types of football? That would include Football, Rugby Football, American football, Gaelic Football, Aussie Rules and every other variation of the "bouncy ball on field with two teams" formula around the world.
Its not that but that there are more proffesional races held every weekend than any other sport. I bet its the same in England and Austraillia. You have to remeber there are very few amatuer races held here as oppsed to proffesional ones. Racing costs big bucks. There are hundreds if not thousands of proffesional races held n the US alnoe not only on weekends but during the week.Quote:

I dount your a racing fan and I think you would be amazed at how many races are run in Germany every weekend. I doubt you have anywhere near the number we do however as we have race tracks everywhere.Quote:

Yes, there is some 3 million euro in prize money. :book:

But that's of course peanuts compared to the sponsorships and endorsements. Cycling is a major professional sport.
Not as big as motorsports or autoracing though. Which in turn are not as big as (association) football.

You're still puting all in the same hole, but, anyway, the professional sport most watched is football by itself, though i cannot give numbers it's stated that this is the truth. So as i don't have any numbers i cannot say that it's superior to all motor sports together, but it's to automovilism.
And Michael Jordan is still considered an athelt? Even when he doesn't play any sports? This is news for me. ~:)
