Bravo, France. You sold us a large chunk of land. You gave us a boost during the revolution. You also violated the very soveriegnty you helped to create not a decade after it had seen victory, got yourself into two World Wars (Hey, France didn't have to honor it's alliance with Serbia. France wanted war just as much as Germany did.) that have cost the US easily in the neighborhood of a million lives, cost us more money than I am sure I will ever see in my lifetime, or would even be capable of spending in my lifetime if for some reason I had it all before me!
No, no my friend. When you put the chips down, France owes us. And big time.
I personally think you're wrong. Even though they gave little help they gave help none the less. America had promiced to help France with a conflict with Britain. When they were fighting Britain later America decided to stay neutral. Smart, but very dishonorable.
I'd have to say it's old news now and neither we nor them owe any one anything, but we should have really lived up to a promice.
