You know I've noticed something. Lots of mods make models which look great in the 3d renders, but yours also look great in game. Really impressive work.

Alright, I was getting bored, so I just picked a mod with an interesting name to check out, and by the screenshots this will be cool. I'm interested, but I'm not gonna buy BI, will you ever make a version for the normal Rome?
1.6 and 1.5 are essentially the same. So The Crusades will work for both.

Teutonic Order Foot Knights
https://img109.imageshack.us/img109/...foot9la.th.jpg
https://img69.imageshack.us/img69/10...view2gx.th.jpg
Although these knights do not ride a horse into combat they are just as deadly without it. They wield a massive two handed sword when in battle and they are capable of cleaving their enemies in two with a single swing of their weapon. Few in numbers but also heavily armored they raise the spirits of nearby troops and strike fear into the hearts of the enemy.
:2thumbsup: looks awesome!
Evil to the core, I don´t want to meet one of those in a dark alley :2thumbsup:
I bet they go through enemies like a shark through a surfer, much like the Gothic Foot Knights in MTW
their swords look a tad over the top, but they look rele cool. they must be an expensive unit to maintain.
Today I have a very LARGE preview for you. I will be recounting for you the tale of Teutonic Grandmaster Heinrich Walpot von Bassenheim and his army of the Teutonic Order.
He had answered the call from the King. Saladin had laid siege to Tyre and his Majesty and his Army of Jerusalem where pinned inside the ancient stronghold. He had marched 3000 spearmen, 200 horse, all knights, 500 crossbowmen and 100 heavily armored foot knights to lift the seige. He had been successful, but it cost him many lives and now two days later he was marching back across the plains of syria to his stronghold in Belfort.
https://img210.imageshack.us/img210/962/march5zo.th.jpg
He marched in standard column, he himself led the vanguard while his knights protected the flanks and also took up the rear. It had been a long two days and his men where showing signs of extreme fatigue. Faintly, on the wind he heard a horn blow, then came a shout from one of his lieutenants.
https://img107.imageshack.us/img107/...nemy9xz.th.jpg
"SARACENS! TO THE EAST!"
It couldn't have come at a worse time, his column was stretched nearly a mile long and it would be near impossible for him to rally his men and face the Saracen threat. He quickly wheeled his bodyguard to take up the left wing and sent orders for his men to form a line with the rest of his mounted and foot knights taking position on the right. He hoped the weight of his knights charges on either wing would be enough to fold up the Saracen line and allow him to surround them.
https://img88.imageshack.us/img88/5926/orders7dx.th.jpg
The line formed quickly, the Saracens were still over a half a mile away. He quickly surveyed his line and then called the for a general advance. He then turned and looked across the field at his enemy.
https://img78.imageshack.us/img78/85...ance1al.th.jpg
On the other side of the battlefield the Saracens marched steadily forward. They held numerical strength and contained two regiments of the feared Black Guard. These units had not been at Tyre and were eager for battle. The Saracen general ordered his own troops to move toward the Teutonic line. Placed at his center was one regiment of the Black Guard, the other took up the right flank opposite the Grandmaster. His hopes for the battle were simple. He planned to pierce the Teutonic center before his wings gave way to the knights. If he could do this he would be able to turn his line and absorb the heavy charge of the european knights and avoid being surrounded.
As the armies closed each side began to pick up the pace of their advance. Signals blared from both side to call the charge. The Saracen line surged forward developing into a massive wedge of men and horse with the Black Guards forming the deadly tip. The Teutonic line maintained its position and surged forward in unison. First to clash on the battle field where the Teutonic spearmen and the Black Guard.
https://img240.imageshack.us/img240/...tack5pw.th.jpg
The europeans wavered but held their ground. Quickly the knights on the right flank pushed home their attack. The cavalry crashing into the enemy ghulams and light arabian cavalry while the foot knights swept into the enemys anatolian spearmen.
https://img101.imageshack.us/img101/...arge4ek.th.jpg https://img105.imageshack.us/img105/...ttle5vo.th.jpg
As he watched his men crash upon the saracens like a great wave crashing upon cliff, von Bassenheim lead his own bodyguard in a daring frontal charge of the Black Guard stationed on the right.
https://img132.imageshack.us/img132/...arge8hm.th.jpg
Sadly it was all for naught. The Teutonic center buckled then broke just as the knights on both flanks gained ground. The Saracen general pushed his Sibyan Al Rikab through the hole that was created, routing the crossbowmen and the spearmen in a matter of minutes. The knights out on the right flank were then surrounded and killed to the last man as their Grandmaster escaped with the few men that remained in his bodyguard. It was a bloody defeat for the the grandmaster and his newly created order. He would return to Belfort where he would lick his wounds and plan his vengeance.
Special thanks to the guys at Chivalry Total War who so generously allowed the use of their covered horse model
Awesome update!
~ What can I say but :2thumbsup: ? Amazing, especially the Teutonic Grandmaster bodyguards are fantastic. I so want to play this.
Great work!! Looks very proff:2thumbsup:
Very nice indeed
Todays preview we will see the hospitaller order in action with their Grandmaster Geoffroy de Donjon. All the events described in this preview can happen during a campaign. If you have been following the mod you'll know what features in the mod can make this all happen.
News had spread quickly through the remants of the Latin Kingdom. The newly established Teutonic Order had been ambushed and utterly decimated by the Saracens. However their was little anyone could do to right this tragedy. The Kingdom itself and its Army of Jerusalem had already pushed out of Tyre and was moving north to secure the coast and safe passage to Antioch. The Templars were moving north with the Army of Jerusalem as well and so the task of chastising the Saracens near Tyre fell to Geoffroy. He had left Krak des Chevaliers early that morning before the sun had risen. Word had been brought to him that a Saracen caravan was making its way north from Cairo to Damascus through Saracen territory. Geoffroy hoped to catch the caravan after a long night of travel and destroy it. And so there he sat upon his mount staring over the syrian plains waiting for any sign of the Saracens.
https://img504.imageshack.us/img504/...open0sh.th.jpg
He had with him one hundred of his best mounted knights and knew their charge could not be withstood. Then over the dune tops came the caravan. Its escort was larger than Geoffroy had anticipated, however he knew that if he could destroy it he would gain glory for his order. He raised his sword to the sky and signaled the charge.
Saladin was no fool. He had defeated the Franks on every battlefield he had met them. Now, with Tyre empty of its armies and Syria devoid of enemy from Damascus to Cairo, the call had been made for his trade caravans to begin their long journey. He also knew that the Knights Hospitaller had not left Krak des Chevaliers with the rest of the Franks to secure passage to Antioch and so he had ensured that all his caravans had a heavy escort. Geoffroy was charging head first towards an enemy that out numbered him four to one. Heavy infantry from Anatolia, Black Guardsmen of the Caliphate as well as local tribesmen guarded the camel caravan. At its head Saladin had placed one of his brightest Generals who had expected an attack and was not to be dissappointed. He quickly sent his camels away and told his heavy infantry to form a deep line and ready themselves to repel the cavalry charge.
https://img509.imageshack.us/img509/...tter4xa.th.jpg
The collison was violent, beyond anything many of the saracens had ever experienced. Man and horse crashed and died, soon the line was buckling and falling back. For all his spearmen and heavy infantry the Saracen generals army could not withstand the full assault of over one hundred knights. He ordered a full retreat with the Black Guard acting as a barrier to prevent any pursuit.
https://img502.imageshack.us/img502/...rge18xn.th.jpg
Amazingly the army was able to retreat with few casualties and they were not pursued by the Hospitallers who had lost close to one quarter of their men. The Saracen general thought nothing of the lack of pursuit and continued to push his caravan away from the knights.
All was going according to plan. Geoffroy had forced the saracen caravan to change its direction and they were now headed directly into his trap. He had feared that his knights wouldn't have been enough and knowing this he had placed a large portion of his army to the west and ordered them to keep out of site and wait for the caravan to be herded to them. Over 1000 of his spearmen now waited with contingents of foot knights and crossbowmen. There he would no longer be out numbered, there he would hold the advantage of numbers and of surprise.
https://img513.imageshack.us/img513/...trap2co.th.jpg
Geoffroy made a sweeping turn around the Saracen caravan mainting visual contact with them at all times, herding them like sheep to the slaughter. His army soon caught site of the fleeing saracens and readied themselves.
The Saracen general crested one final dune and then it hit him. Below, not even a half mile away was a massive army. Twice the size of his own. There was only one chance of escape. He would attack the infantry in front of him head on and hope that his camels could out run the mounted knights. He sent out the orders and formed his battle line. Slowly he advanced, allowing for his men to catch their breath and calm their hearts. As he neared the enemy lines crossbow fire began to rain down, men to his left and his right fell to the ground but the advance continued. Three hundred yards, two hundred, one hundred, fifty... "CHARGE!!!" Horns bellowed in the morning air, joined by the noise of two thousand running, screaming men. As the two armies collided the very ground shook beneath their feet and the clash of flesh and metal deafened the ears while the dust blinded the eyes.
https://img125.imageshack.us/img125/...lash9ah.th.jpg
The Saracen General had led the charge, now he saw nothing but dust. He pushed forward swinging at anything that moved about his feet not knowing if they were friend or foe. Then, with the suddeness that nearly knocked him from his horse he was on the other side of the Hospitaller line out of the dust and into the shining sun with only thirty yards between him and the frankish crossbowmen. The men to his immediate left and right were struck down by crossbow bolts before he could signal a second charge but he quickly covered the ground between him and his enemy before they had a time to reload. His bodyguard of Ghulams had shrunk to only 40 men but it was enough to rout the crossbowmen, he could now feel it in his soul, victory would be his.
In his valiant charge the Saracen had forgotten one vital thing. Geoffroy had not entered battle and still had over seventy five heavy mounted knights. Geoffroy first attacked the fleeing Camels cutting them down to the last man. He then turned his cavalry back to see how his infantry was fairing. The sight he saw destroyed the spirits of himself and his men. The Saracens had punched through the line at the point where the knights and the spearmen contingents met. His crossbowmen had routed and his infantry was in dire need of help. He quickly weilded his knights around the right flank of the enemy and then charged their exposed side and rear. Geoffroy continued to push forward charging hard through the length of the saracen line, bodies being thrown and trampled infront of his war horse.
https://img517.imageshack.us/img517/...tory0vj.th.jpg
It was over nearly as quickly as it had started. All the Saracen infantry had been killed, the general had fled, abandoning his army once he caught sight of the charging knights. Geoffroy and his Hospitallers had gained victory and revenge against the Saracens. With word that more Europeans had taken up the cross and were soon to arrive in the Holy Land Geoffroy knew that this Crusade would soon take back everything they had lost to Saladin.
You know, if you keep up like this I´ll soon run out of superlatives.
Head on over to the map preview thread for a massive map preview or just click this link
Great looking stuff. It looks like you've remodeled many of your already excellent models. One question though: shouldn't they have boots or something? They're just walking around in chain mail down to the toes.
Really beautiful units! Fantastic texturing.
wow... compliments from the master himself...
I am honoured.
Hoggy and Caius!?
One thread cannot possibly contain this much awesomeness!

Palm Trees and Catapults
I know an odd mixture but I'm running out of things to preview and I want to save some of the units for closer to release.
The palm trees are the new vegetation you will encounter in The Crusades.
https://img477.imageshack.us/img477/...rees1jr.th.jpg
And now the catapults. These are your basic siege weapons meant for use against wall and need be against troops.
https://img474.imageshack.us/img474/...ults3bv.th.jpg
Sadly, the catapults don't look like they were originally intended. They were to have ropes and all sorts of do dads. But unfortunatly the engine doesn't support the type of model that is required to do that.
Splendid work. Does the lack of units mean we are nearing a final release!
Wow, wow, wow.
Neat, very neat.
Todays Preview
More artillery. Today we get a look at the ballista. It along with the catapult will be essential pieces of any army that plans on attacking a wall settlement. In this preview the ballista are being manned by Crusader militia.
https://img194.imageshack.us/img194/...view2ue.th.jpg
Thumbs up for the work!
wow!!!it's one of the best mods i've ever seen! beautiful units, and a holy land focused map!!
can't wait to play it!:2thumbsup:
Recently interviewed by the TWC Eagle Standard. THe story is currently running on their front page. Head on over there for some great new info on the mod :)
They're so beautiful...
Who are those freaky dudes in the emoticon link???
I don't know but they look sweet.
For love from Britannicus. Edessa, the oldest of the Crusader states was heavily influenced by eastern and armenian culture. And so an interesting culture was born there. It is from there that the next previewed unit hails. Armored in similar armor to his eastern enemies he also show heavy armenian influence. They are the Knights of Edessa. Dun dun duuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuun.
https://img389.imageshack.us/img389/...nder8zz.th.jpg
That is quite possibly one of the nicest units i've ever seen for RTW. Well done!:2thumbsup:
Sweet zombie jesus they're good!
You continue to amaze. Also, the map looks sweet, have you concidered changing the textures for it?
it actually uses a new texture set. Its a subtle difference mostly in the desert.
Watching people suffer because they can't find the preview is what gets me up in the mornings. And with that being said....
heres the latest preview free of agonizing searching, tomfoolery, nincompoopery or even douchebaggery.
Ayyubid Crossbowmen

Hehe looks like that Turcoman preview gave everyone some troubles. As I'm kinda short on interesting ways of hiding my previews heres my next preview.

Keep up the good work! ~:thumb:
Gnarly mate :2thumbsup: I hope Antioch is getting something as super-cool-awesome as that.Quote:

Antioch gets some crazy good infantry and some quality mounted knights. And because I love you Vandal (and always have) here they are:

Very nice looking units ...:2thumbsup:
Whoa, I just love those Halberdiers. Are they getting an animation of their own? The vanilla two-handed animation isn´t quite appropriate for halberdiers, especially when charging.
You know how halberdiers fought as spearmen till the enemy got close, then used the hook or axe blade. Well maybe you should use falanx formation, but make their secondary weapon look the same as their primary. This way when the enemy got close they would stop poking and start swinging.
EDIT, except I'm not sure you can edit the phalanx weapon. Oops.
They will be using a two-handed spear animation we have. Its better than the regular spear animation but doesn't include any chopping motions so its not perfect but it will do.
You can. At least Wles did it in his LotR Mod.Quote:

Anyways, a two-handed spear animation is fitting enough, I´ve read the axe part on the halberd wasn´t used very much, since the weapon would twist in the hand of its user, due to the length of the pole, and would strike with the flat instead the blade.
those knights have to be the most bad a#$ knights ever
you should consider just putting this game on a cd and selling it id pay good money for this
It’s awfully quiet around here.
Well, hopefully that means Caius is too busy working on is mod to post. Anyways, as far as I´ve understood him, most of the units and stuff are done, now he´s working to get it up and running.

So if the units are done whats left thats not done?
Presumably buildings, scripting, testing, etc... Not to mention the many descriptions for so many units.
Regardless, good luck on finishing the mod caius. It looks fantastic and I'm looking forward to playing it someday!
Caius any news on progress?
On rtr forums you've mentioned long time ago about beta testing that should have begun long time ago.... What's going on now?
Welcome to the .org daud
I'd like to second your request for news.
Work is continuing. There has been a snag with coding the units into the game as I'm rather busy and reiks has been on vacation and is now moving. So the two team members are trying our best work on the mod whenever we can.
Is there any date of release you can give us? And no pessamistic, I had a heart attack the last time you said that, even though it turned out to be even later than you said. :sweatdrop:
I´d say he´ll release it when it´s done.
Honestly, I´m as eager to play Crusades as you are, but there´s no use nagging at Caius. Let him take his time and don´t put him under pressure. We don´t want him to tell us to collectively go jump because we´re getting on his nerves, now do we?
I'm just joking around mate(refer to earlier post).
Any new Updates? Can't wait to download!
great work so far on everything
really looking forward to a crusaders mod and it looks fantastic
Hey!!...it's me!! I've finally found my way back to you guys!!...well, it's good to see that the mod it's still working, I'd like to know if there has been any nwe updates or new units. ThanxQuote:

Eventough I love Templars, I will accept your decision, It's hard to say this and even harder to wait until the mod is finished, but I suppose I can wait for another couple of months. The GREAT question is how many you estimate.
Inch'Allah!!
Wow:2thumbsup: This mod is looking good!
I'm dieing of thirst for this mod.
"I did not give the cup of the Crusades to you"-Caius Brittanicus
"No, my lord"-Manslaughter
Caius jams blade up to the hilt into Manslaughter's throat.:skull:
i signed up to this forum purely to tell you how ridiculously good your units are. man, they look almost as good as those from mtw2. =p
the only other units that come close for me in terms of quality are the ones prometheus is creating for res gestae and ran no jidai.
haha, this thread must be a pretty big ego booster, but it's well deserved. ^^
His skins are some of the best I've seen, the only ones that come close is Dirty Peasant's for Chivalry TW.
Just so people don't get the idea that the mod is dead

The Crusader general looks absolutely brilliant. Looking forward to your mod best of luck. Love the armies on the campaign map.
Just went threw this thread awesome skins and details are great. Saracen cavalry was really really nice :2thumbsup:
Since I know its been a long time since this thread was really active, I'm delving back into my internal team renders. These renders were originally just viewed by team-members to comment on unit progress. Most of the units you'll see in the coming days are revamps of older units. All of these units were completed sometime ago or finishing touches were added recenetly. To start things off I'll show you a revamp of one of my original works. The Welsh Bowmen.
Welsh Bowmen
https://img92.imageshack.us/img92/35...hmenag6.th.jpg
The old version of this unit, as you may recall, wore padded leather armor and a kettle helmet. Now the unit has lost his padded armor and wears a green and white tunic with a red coat over top. He still bears his kettle helmet and now also bears a small wooden buckler painted in the heraldic colours of his tunic which correspond to the colours of Wales. Gone also is the quiver that use to be strapped to his back. In its place the arrows (now 3D) are stuffed into his belt behind his back. His short short has also been placed in the belt on his left side.
The change was made to not only update the visual quality of the unit but also give it more uniqueness. The old unit was rather grey and boring, now the unit has a bit more of an identity. It will also make noticing him in your opponents armies a little more easy. Which is handy, especially since they fire armor piercing bodkin arrows capable of piercing multiple targets. If you ever come across a unit of these badasses you better deal with them quickly or else you could be in deep trouble.
I can't decide who I love more, Caius or his amazing units!?!
Continuing to preview units that changed over the course of development we come to the start of the revamped Latin units. Over the next couple of days you'll see the changes made to units like the Latin Foot Knights, Mounted Latin Knights and the Kings Bodyguard.
Foot Knights fo the Latin Kingdom
https://img164.imageshack.us/img164/...ightme5.th.jpg
This unit which was first featured in 2005 recieved a considerable face lift at the end of spring. Higher resolution textures for his surcoat and shield as well as a much improved helmet. He now also features a new sword which has more detail than his previous incarnation. Not as drastic a change compared to the Welsh Longbowmen, but a change none the less.
:wideeyed: WOW, that's really cool!
Mounted Knights of the Latin Kingdom
https://img125.imageshack.us/img125/...isitcx8.th.jpg
Again a unit that was first featured nearly six months ago. These mounted knights have changed slightly. They have a new and improved helmet, what I call the "Tiberias." Its a replica of the helmet worn by Tiberias in the movie kingdom of heaven. Other changes are higher resolution surcoat and shield as well as a more three dimensional coif. This revamp was also completed in early spring and it is the first time anyone (even team members) have seen it.
I love i love i love this mod....
