Re: Another update from Deutschland
So I'm still doing well even though I was at a party until 2:30 on Friday/Saturday, and sat in the cellar with the other two kids from my house until 3:30 or so. It was a ton of fun and I feeling really comfortable with the people I've met here now, even though two of the Bisexual German guys have slapped my but when I wasn't looking.
My birthday's coming up and I'm kind of revolted at how many people I am thinking about inviting (14 minimum, 16 maximum) to my party. But it should be fun as long as I don't have to clean up any puke.
I went to my first Bundesliga (German professional football/soccer league) game yesterday, which was a ton of fun. Wolfsburg v. Aachen. Aachen won 2:1.

Ah, no worries about the bisexual thing. My friend's father told me that the last time his mother went to Germany, she saw a woman have sex with a horse on a stage. You win.

"Would monsieur like a bucket?"

Re: Another update from Deutschland
I'm not worried about the bisexual guys, they're cool and I am fairly certain they were intoxicated at the time so it's okay.
And I would really like to just get through my birthday without having someone throw up somewhere where I have to clean it up, in the toilet is okay, but in the sink like at the last party that happened here.....Well let's just say that wouldn't be so fun.

P.S. Now that you've said that someones going to throw up and you gonna have to clean it.:beam:

Re: Another update from Deutschland
Eh, only three or so people are likely to drink that much, and one of them is my host brother andif he pukes he gets to clean it up.

Re: Another update from Deutschland
Well I'm really annoyed because I possibly have 4 free hours of school, out of a six hour day, on Monday. It's going to be really really boring, especially since I only have a slight chance of sitting in on a class for two hours or so, and it's an english class.
Today I'm also stuck at school until the eigth hour of classes even though I won't have had a class for around 3 hours by the time my biology class starts.
Otherwise everyone is invited to my party and all I have to do is buy the beer and food!
-
Re: Another update from Deutschland
So I had my birthday yesterday, and even though everyone had school or work the next day my family and I hung out with the other family from our house grilling and drinking. It was quite fun, but it's a bit weird how Germans come up to you and give about a five minute speech while shaking your hand to congratulate you on your birthday. It's okay though, only one person said what I would call too much, and it wasn't that weird.

That does sound kinda strange...then again, I've never celebrated a birthday in Vermont.
-
Re: Another update from Deutschland
Eh we don't really do anything all that strange in Vermont, for our birthdays...You might see my dad run off to light fireworks (which are illegal in Vermont..) and then say "Oh wait my drink!" and then run back to the porch for his whiskey. After which he'll run off to light the fireworks. Luckily he lets other people light off most of them.
Party tomorrow!

Re: Another update from Deutschland
Woot nobody puked!
The whole case of beer was finished!
My vodka was also emptied!
And I hate Sangria...Someone brought at least a liter of it to the party and I have to say it sucks.

Re: Another update from Deutschland
Glad to see youre having fun!

Re: Another update from Deutschland
So New Year's is coming up and I'm not stuck in the Sport Hall dancing with my Mutti, but instead going to hang out with some friends!
Oh and anyone know why the guys here think drinking Aquavit with beer will prevent hangovers?

Hmm ... no idea - and I actually doubt that the combination will help to prevent a hangover (actually the additional alcohol will rather "enhance" it).
Better make sure that you drink sufficient water in addition to the alcoholic beverages.
Have fun ~:)

You should try to obtain empirical results !

Re: Another update from Deutschland
So I survived my German New Year's despite at least one German attempting to kill me with firecrackers. One of them actually hit me direct in the back, but I was fune of course. We didn't set off anything very dangerous but the German with the most fireworks was also one of the most intoxicated people at the party...
Oh yeah and I didn't drink very much just in case that gave the wrong impression.
And I've got over a week more of vacation while all of my friends in America go back to school tomorrow or so!

Bah me and my cousin and my uncle exchanged Roman candle fire. Needless to say I was never hit, but my cousin got shot in the face. Oops.:beam:

Re: Another update from Deutschland
I forgot to tell you guys this earlier but I was almost stuck in the bathroom at the party because the key broke when I went to open the door. Luckily I got out without assitance after about five minutes of fiddling with the broken key, but I almost had one of those horribly embarrassing party ruined because I got stuck in the bathroom on New Year's Eve stories to tell.

No Gorebag that is hilarious, and would have been fun, and hilarious after a month or so.
Luckily the person didn't freak out when I told her I had broken the key to her bathroom door....
-
Re: Another update from Deutschland
I'll bet her facial expression was worth it.
-
Re: Another update from Deutschland
Unfortunately she didn't have much of a reaction to it...That might have been because she was most likely quite intoxicated by that point, but I can't be sure because she only really showed it an hour or two later.

Re: Another update from Deutschland
These Rosetta Stone language lessons sound so gay. I'm not sure what dialect of German they're speaking but it sounds so...Latinized?
-
Re: Another update from Deutschland
I don't know the Rosetta Stone language courses but since they're so renowned they're probably speaking Hoch Deutsch (High German). I probably haven't heard a ton of Hoch Deutsch, but what I have heard didn't sound latinized to me. German in general was less harsh than I expected it to be. I find that it only sounds really harsh if the person speaking does really good rolled r's. If you want to hear harsh German listen to some Rammstein.
Oh yeah and I survived the huge storm that hit us here on Thursday.
-
Re: Another update from Deutschland
The one that caused the Dutch windmills to spin at 5,000 rpm? That was some insanity over there. Hurricane force winds over Europe.:dizzy2:
I expected German to be more, well, German too. I guess maybe having millions of tons of bombs dropped on you can take some wind out of your sails. I'll get to hear the Heidelburg verson if it soon. I don't expect it to sound quite like Rammstein but it would be nice!
-
Re: Another update from Deutschland
I doubt German changed after WWII. I've heard some pretty old people speaking German and their German doesn't sound any more harsh to me. I think the harshness of the language is just somewhat exaggerated.
So I went to visit the Harz Hochschule yesterday and I came away with the impression that even in another language, and on another continent college tours, and college presentations are pretty much the same everywhere. Oh yeah and extremely boring too.
Ah and on Tuesday I was in Magdeburg to see Werder Bremen crush FC Magdeburg 3:0 in a friendly opening game for the new Magdeburg football (soccer, Fußball) stadium. Anyone watch the game? It was on 2DF iirc. The middle of the field was covered in frost so the players had a bit of trouble keeping their feet sometimes, and it wasn't the most exciting game, but FCM held out well for the first half and it was a lot of fun.
-
Re: Another update from Deutschland
So I'm back in the US as of last Saturday. It's reallz weird to be back and to see all of my friends and family here, and none of my German friends and "family." It was a really great experience to be an exchange student. It was extremely difficult to learn a new language and be away from home for so long, but I think I matured quite a bit during my time overseas and am really happy that I did it. I would encourage anyone who has the opportunity to do anything similar to jump right into it.
EDIT: Switched "Saturdaz" to "Saturday." I'm not used to an American keyboard anymore!!!
