Re: King of the Romans - OOC thread
Posting here rather than in the Diet, because my arguments are entirely OOC.
I think the PBM will suffer if we commit to a fair allocation of territories at all times. If we remove the ability of Houses to influence their own expansion, we're essentially taking away any competition between the Houses. I think that would dull the game down a great deal and make for far less interesting political intercourse. A game in which better strategy and deal-making results in more power for a House will keep people interested and interacting for far longer.

Re: King of the Romans - OOC thread
@ Econ21: I will send you what I have shortly. It is my understanding that you are located in England, hence your concept of evening may be a little different from mine though :beam:
In regards to mods: I agree with the general concept that the more mods are added the more complex the situation is made. At the same time, I see the necessity for the 2h and the V&V, the former because of gameplay issues and the latter because of roleplaying ones.
I have to say that I am very excited to partake in this PBEM. In the last few months following my discovery of this site, I have been reading all the WotS material, and I loved it. I hope this will be just as good, if not better. :2thumbsup:

OK, that seems to be the consensus and that was my initial proposal, so let's go with that. I'll post some details on Thursday.

Re: King of the Romans - OOC thread
I do happen to have the leading VnV fix, is much more fun, as now i can have brothels and not be a womanizer.
In fact, spending 20 turns in a tavern has only given my faction leader Heavy Drinker, and that may have something to do with the upwards of 15 attempts on his life.
https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/showthread.php?t=75326
{download link}http://files.filefront.com//;6476123;;/
Just those two text files would make the RP so much better.
Fixes: (taken from https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/showthread.php?t=75326)
V1.2
===
*The foreign fruitcake (adultress_she_man) only appears if you are actually homosexual (having atleast 4 points of Arse).
*Strategic skill can be increased by successful battles.
*Princesses can, even if their dad lacked the prerequisites, gain a few traits besides the standard two.
*Generals that always push the movement limit to the max has a slight slight chance of being better
at LogisticalSkill. Only for land movement ofcourse, so shuttling them around in ships shouldn't work... :D
V1.1
====
*Fools could cling on to anyone, including agents, since they don't have Command skill. Only for generals now.
*Removed an odd bug regarding the disaster-trigger; appearantly it triggers for much more than disasters as
removing the randomness made everyone get superstitious and conforming at certain events.
V1.0
====
Ancillaries
----------
*Most Witch-related triggers are not properly implemented. To compensate until the problem is fixed,
witches have a slightly higher % of gaining ancillaries when created. (Brooms etc.)
*Adultress now only join generals when they stay at a coaching house or above.
*Foreign adultress appears less often.
*Fools sometimes join lesser generals that linger in Castles (or above).
*Heralds sometimes join generals staying in Citadels.
*The Pagan Magician now requires a fairly high heresey % of the population if he is to join the general.
(he joins much, much less and only for those who travel across high heresey lands)
*The tracking dog is implemented! Pet_bloodhound. The trigger was completly broken. The fearsome
dog, +2 agent skill, +1 Line of Sight and +1 personal security, now has a small chance of appearing
along spies from pleasure palaces.
Triggers for VnV's
-------------------
*The base religion value of 3 for everyone is fixed. It now works properly for everyone that joins
your family.
*Corruption-triggers are doubled to 100k, 150k and 200k.
*Vast overhaul of the vices inluding drinking, gambling, girls etc. Much toned down .
You no longer start getting drunk at brothels. You get a slight chance to drink at taverns and upwards.
*Your generals no longer pick up negative traits for doing nothing in settlements: drink, gambling, arse, girls.
However: Generals stuck in a settlement without a brothel has a very small chance of turning to the arse.
*Luxurious lifestyles toned down. Coaching houses and pleasure palaces can still corrupt your general though.
*If a general survives a disaster, he has a much larger chance of turning to superstition or religion.
*Merchants no longer pick up the selfserving merchant trait unless they actually trade something far away.
*Generals that survive an inquisition become more religious, not just a chance of becoming.
*Diplomats not as quick to be religious intolerant and so on.
*Bishops now come from both cathedrals and huge cathedrals, not just cathedrals.
*Sitting around in the wilderness now has a higher chance of increasing certain traits, such as hale & hearty.
*Generals born in cities with high level religious buildings now have higher chance of being religious.
*You become more cultured at the theatres, but do not start drinking because of it.
*Sanitation: A bit easier to get good health, chances for vices are lowered.
*You will no longer become a bad taxman for governing a castle.
Traits
------
*BoringSpeaker actually does something now, it used to have 0 effect for all 3 levels. A general that is a poor
speaker has a negative effect on authority and morale, if he ends up really boring.
*Inspiring speaker tweaked to give you a slight morale boost at the highest level.
*Governors that stay in settlements with farms, mines and trade will slowly increase their knowledge and skill
in that area. Building the specific buildings still gives you points, but it is now actually possible to become good farmers,
miners and traders if you spend your career doing just that.

Re: King of the Romans - OOC thread
Quote:
Once a foreign campaign edict passes, Field Marshalls and generals could then place their bid for involvement in the campaign, with the chancellor either constructing or delegating the number and type of armies to be used in the campaign. So if the chancellor delegates three armies to be used, the field marshall who gets chosen to lead the campaign would be able to direct the tactical movements of three generals, who would lead their individual armies into battle when an engagement occurs.
They would be bound to fulfill this campaign to the best of their abilities, and may only offensively target settlements directly outlined in the campaign goals, but may attack any enemy army , regardless of whether it is outlined in the campaign goals, if it is deemed a threat or beneficial to engage at that time, so long as this does not involve leaving the theatre of the campaigns operations. (I.E. they couldn't chase a French army into Toulouse, as that's beyond the Dijon region and out of the campaign's theatre.) These decisions are up to the field marshall to make, and the generals to carry out to the best of their ability.
if this idea isnt implemented already, do it, sounds much easier to understand.
The Diet says "Yes we agree to that edict"
The Chanceller receives people saying "I want in"
Picks Field Marshal
Field Marshal/Chanceller picks generals
So the field marshal would have control of an army, and direct the generals movements, but the generals would control their armies on the battlefield?
Sounds awsome. To me at least.
-
Re: King of the Romans - OOC thread
I agree completely that it sounds great that way. Since multiple stack attacks are definately more common in M2TW than before (at least I found myself using multiple armies in the same areas all the time), I think this adds a lot of strategic depth to the game, not to mention the roleplaying possiblities. Looking forward to actually being able to use this.
-
Re: King of the Romans - OOC thread
Id love to see the Chanceller appoint a Mad Field Marshal!
Men! Charge the Pikes!
"But that will destroy our cavalry"
Jump over the pikes, DUh!

Re: King of the Romans - OOC thread
If possible.I would like to humbly apply for position of fifth elector of Swabia.:knight: I have been reading the both out of character and inside character threads through and this game sounds very intresting.
-
Re: King of the Romans - OOC thread
I'd also like to make some OOC comments on the pledge posted by GH, before I write anything about it in the Diet.
In my opinion the settlement allocation shouldn't be limited to geographical proximity. Of course certain preferences should be made. But what if a prolonged war with Hungary forces us to take several provinces from Hungary? Surely they wouldn't all fall to the House of Austria, just because they happen to border on Hungary. I think the allocation of some territories a little bit off the main lands of a House will add a lot of role-play opportunities, while keeping every house focused on the overall advance of the Empire instead of just focusing east, north, south or west.
Also the famous German Kleinstaaterei (small states) is much better represented that way. Historically, for example the Wittelsbachs ruling over large parts of Bavaria also had holdings in the Netherlands.
Regarding TinCows comments I'd like to add that although his ideas sound good in theory, I fear they may soon lead to frustration when applied within the game. After all the purpose of this game is to have fun for everyone. I fear that discussions would become a little too intense if the prospering of the own House depends too much on the acting in the Diet.
Of course a small incentive could be given, but I think no single House should control two provinces more than any other House. It's also from a IC standpoint in the best interest of the Kaiser to not let any single House become too powerful.
Your proposition could also get out of hand once Kaisers belong to a certain House and suddenly start to allocate settlements exclusively to their House.
Also, has someone heard of Braden lately? The House of Austria is a little bit headless at the moment.
Cheers!

Yes, but then the Diet could reject requests of Forming the Armies, if the familt members...
I propose that if, for example, the House of Austria partitions the Diet for an army to conquer a town, it must be seconed by people from other houses. Would stop 5 Austrian people seconding every edict
(or am i misinterpreting edict, we still have to vote them yes?)
-
Re: King of the Romans - OOC thread
In the list of edicts, I have only put down two seconders - more is unnecessary. We are going to vote on them (24 hour poll, starts Thursday 6pm UK time).
On the charter ammendement, I'd like to see the Emperor retain flexibility over allocation of settlements to Houses - broadly fair and broadly geographic, but not in a narrow legalistic sense (so I am against the ammendment). I see them basically as "rewards" or "favours" he can dispense according to his judgement. For example, if a Duke becomes a right hand man for the Emperor, providing lots of advice or help, he might be favoured. Or if one House proves very good at governing their settlements, they may be trusted with more etc. But the Emperor has no House so should not favour one faction per se.
-
Re: King of the Romans - OOC thread
And Since we are all people here for the fun and roleplaying, I dont think any house will be favoured overly. If i became Kaiser (Like thats going to happen), I would do everything in the good of the Empire, having one Victorious moment to remember my reign, but favouring my house too much. Maybe slight favouratism, but you could disown them if they went against you...so Many possibilites.
What happens if your general Rebels? Do you go to the back of the line?
-
Re: King of the Romans - OOC thread
I might be wrong but I believe it goes something like this:
The Chancellor conquers territory (farming out specific battles if needed), all factions in the Diet beg like starving puppies for dominion over said territory, Kaiser decides which Duchy (if any) to give it to. Once given it's permanent.
On another point, I find GH's pledge, charter amendment 1.1, a little confusing. If we don't like how the Kaiser is splitting things up we can't impeach him. We can impeach chancellors but not emperors. The worst we could do to the Kaiser is refuse to fight in battles or obstruct the diet or vote for a charter amendment to strip him of province allocating power. Of course if we could pass that one we could pass a charter amendment saying we could remove kaisers with an edict or 2/3 vote. Hmm. I've just confused myself.

Re: King of the Romans - OOC thread
I haven't gone and read the latest diet proceedings yet, but here's my general opinion.
Kaiser, by rule of the current charter, distributes conquered provinces according to his own will.
Let's have some faith in this. I'm predicting that houses will soon become ignorant of their "directional inclinations" and we'll actually see Houses petitioning one another in the diet proceedings for territorial exchanges.
What I mean is -
For the sake of argument, let's say we're about 30 turns into the game and end up going to open war with France, who's had significant successes against England and controls the whole of modern day France and the low countries, minus Metz. I can see all four houses jumping to be involved in this big war, but that doesn't mean that all the conquered territories will be allocated to the western houses, Swabia and Franconia. Perhaps a general from Bavaria or does immensely well against the French armies, and thanks to his efforts, 2 full stacks of Frenchmen now lay six feet under and both Massillia and Dijon have been taken by his men. Swabia may have had a general that, while not performing quite as well, did make a good show of himself and without him occupying other French forces the Bavarian general would have been outnumbered and outmaneouvered. So, the Kaiser gives Dijon to Swabia and Massillia to Bavaria.
Here's where my anticipation of territorial redistribution deals comes in. Let's say Bavaria really has no interest in Massillia, but they own it. On the other hand, Swabia had, earlier in the game, been given control of Florence, which Bavaria does want, and does have an interest in. So naturally they take to the diet with an edict declaring the desire between the house of Swabia and the house of Bavaria to exchange ownership rights of Florence and Massillia.
-
So, I say again, let's just let the property distribution take its natural course, I think we'll be pleased with the results.

Re: King of the Romans - OOC thread
Just to let you know, I have been taking a bit of minutes for all the proceedings, just because it takes so long to get through all the roleplayed characters if you want to reference something (only did it because the semester just started here at school, and I have nothing to do :laugh4: ) . I will try to post those a bit later tonight, so that they are going to be available for all to read.

There was a (Austrian) motion to marry her to Leopold; then someone realised they were brother and sister.
The Emperor's daughter is very important in that whoever she marries becomes a Duke (I'll randomly decide which House of (Franconia or Bavaria), unless she marries a Steward[1]). And it's entirely her father's decision.
[1]Edit: Thinking about it, if she marries a member of Dukeless House, he should become Duke of that House. Otherwise, it should be random.

Just a couple of questions:
When will the IC thread for character development appear?
What do we do when the Diet's over? Will there be no communication between the Housese while GH plays along? I already miss the deliberations and communication. Gotta send an envoy to those pesky Swabians to keep this interesting. :beam:
See you on the Diet's floor!

Re: King of the Romans - OOC thread
Discussion in the Diet should continue, just without Edicts. GH will be providing updates ("Chancellor's Reports"?) regularly on the actions. Those tended to provide good grounds for discussion in the WOTS and I expect they will here as well. When you refer to the IC character development thread, I assume you're talking about something like the Civil War Stories thread. I don't know when this will be put up, but most people don't even have avatars yet, so it'll be a while before it becomes widely useful.
-
Re: King of the Romans - OOC thread
The thing that has been annoying me, is traits. Will we get updates every turn/few turns of our traits? We need them to roleplay (I assume everyone knew that, just havent seen word on it)
-
Re: King of the Romans - OOC thread
I assume the Diet will become the place to petition the Kaiser for disposition of new lands and will remain very active.
I'm looking forward to actual game play. There'll be less legislating and we'll be able to curse rebels, denounce those traitorous merchant states, and jockey for position among the houses. Good times.
As for traits pevergreen, well you and I don't even have them yet. Just develop your character for now (you seem to be nursing a grudge against the Swabians which is a great start). Once we get avatars go with the initial traits and include new developments in them into your character as we get the saved games.
I don't envy GH the first few turns, I've started up an HRE game (h/vh) and the troop selection is sparse, knights in some castles, peasant archers in others, and town militia in towns (not even spear militia). Infrastructure is bad too. I managed to grab a few rebel settlements but I'm stretched thin with a lot of casualties and a depleted treasury. I will pray for the Kaiser.:laugh4:
-
Re: King of the Romans - OOC thread
Save game files will be uploaded regularly by the chancellor, that way you can download them and load them up on your own game to check your traits yourself, and offer the chancellor suggestions on what to do with you to swing traits the way you want them to.
EDIT - The trick with the HRE is actually to build only the bare necessities in the very beginning. Roadways, mustering houses, grain exchanges, etc. Dirt cheap crap, siege few cities into submission (minus Hamburg, which needs to fall as quickly as possible so that Denmark can't squeeze through the Hamburg region like they often try to, sometimes succeeding, before you actually control it). Once you've captured a few towns you notice the treasury jump, then you can start shelling out the cash for big investments.
-
Re: King of the Romans - OOC thread
Yeah, or just move every army to bologna and spend over 120 turns trying to get more than 3 cities. :laugh4: Needless to say i stopped that campaign a while back. Need inspiration for a new one. I would love to start a PBM myself, but i would use HRE, so thats kind of copying this one....
Maybe thats a good thing? So popular it has multiple little ones going along the side :laugh4:
-
Re: King of the Romans - OOC thread
I'd have to say that's probably not the best idea. Then you start the domino effect that happens when something becomes a fad, everyone needs it, then once everybody has it, the people who started it are no longer interested and then it becomes no fun for anybody and it all gets dropped.
I think it'd be easier and much less complicated to stick to just the one wots style pbem.
Which brings to mind, now that we have KotR (King of the Romans, not to be confused with knights of the old republic) we really should come up with a name for this type of pbem other than just constantly referring to it as the "wots style".
-
Re: King of the Romans - OOC thread
Parliamentary Play By Mail (PPBM)?
You have the prime minister, consul or chancellor playing the game itself, but advised by, and periodically replaced by, a member of the legislative body. All of it overseen by a fairly impartial monarch or senate speaker.

Re: King of the Romans - OOC thread
Not only am I a Johnny-come-lately and new to this type of turn based RP text play, but I am new to The Guild Boards to boot.
However, I am not new to RPing or to the TW series. If you will have me, I would happily join you. I would be willing to play an elector from which ever House is currently low, or if those positions are filled, as the German Cardinal if he would be considered an elector.
The Cardinal could be fun considering that you could give him a Bishopric. The HRE and the Papacy have long been at odds over the Investitures of German Bishops (ask Pope Gregory XII...). There wouldn't be too much / any gameplay but the postings could be interesting.

Okay, I'm gearing up to start my turn (thanks for the encouragement, dlain :hide:). Have we fully decided which, if any, mods we're going to use?
Thanks.
-
Re: Out of Character thread
I will start a game (not doing anything) with the PBM settings[1] and then upload it to the Org for you GeneralHankerchief.
The only mod I will use initially is Medifix 1.2:
http://files.filefront.com//;6476123;;/
This fixes vices and virtues, as explained here:
https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/showp...37&postcount=1
I am going to install it now and try it out, then load up the savegame.
I know there has been discussion of us using a mod to handle the 2-handed weapon bug, but I think that will just be a matter of changing the EDU file, so we can do that later if necessary. Note - only units with the 2-handed axe type animation are bugged and I don't think HRE get many (any?) of them. I am holding off on this as there are reports about the 2-H bug mods making the units too powerful. I'd rather CA fix that through a patch than we use a mod.
[1]Hard campaigns, VH battles; timer on; large units.
-
Re: Out of Character thread
Thanks econ. This should be fun.
Quote:

I believe Halberd Militia fall under that category. I would know because they just killed the Moorish Sultan assaulting Jerusalem in a failed jihad. :eyebrows:
-
Re: Out of Character thread
I'll check it out, but I thought halberds - unlike billmen - were not bugged. They are different from billmen, e.g. they get a funky phalanx type special formation, as I recall from the demo. And if they killed a Sultan, that implies they are not be bugged - unless they did it on the charge - as the bug relates to ineffectiveness against cavalry.
-
Re: Out of Character thread
Yeah, there's no "run" option on them. And the fighting was lasting a while before the Sultan bought it. That's the only possible unit, IIRC.
-
Re: Out of Character thread
Medifix is really easy to install - you just extract two text files into your data folder and create a one line bat file in your main M2TW directory to run the game. The instructions are in the download I posted above.
Here's the savegame:
http://www.totalwar.org/patrons/pbm/kotr1080.zip
Note - we are also playing the default 2 years per turn. In character, we should just overlook the fact that our avatars bath in the blood of virgins or something to stop them aging appropriately. So, we'll say the Chancellor rules for 40 years - and the next Diet session (the mid-term) is in 20 years. I am sorry, I know it's not ideal from a role-playing or character immersion point of view. But at least, we have a decent chance of getting to see gunpowder, the Mongols and maybe even the Aztecs.
Looking at the starting situation, we have a rather interesting sounding Cardinal, "Peter the Warmonger". Sounds ideal for a really characterful bit of role-playing. I'll give him to Ivarwolfsong as requested. I'm inclined to put him in the House of Bavaria, as he starts within their boundary. And I have a feeling Strappy Horse has dropped out the PBM, depleting the Bavarian ranks. I will reassign the avatar of Otto to dlain if Strappy Horse has not voted by the time the poll closes.
BTW: In terms of keeping up to date with your character's traits and the campaign, the best thing - as Lucjan said - is periodically to download the latest savegame and take a look for yourself. Savegames will be posted whenever someone other than the Chancellor gets into a fight (and at each Diet session), so they should become fairly frequent. We also should have periodic Chancellor reports. I have not specified an interval, but at least every 5 turns, I think. And more often if something fun happens, like we get attacked. We should use the Diet thread to comment on current events in character.
If someone writes a nice story, PM me and I'll open an in-character story thread (I'm reluctant to open one until it has some content). Ditto a battle report thread. I'm not sure we need a Diet library type thread, given everyone can check up on their characters via savegames. But if anyone wants to maintain one, they are welcome.
EDIT: On 2-handed weapons, I haven't found the definitive list of which are bugged yet, but I have come across several references to the halberd_militia animation being used as a solution to the bug, not as exemplifying it. For example, katank's post in this thread:

I've spotted an error in the library. For the characters that have zero kills and zero losses, the kill/loss ratio is listed as being 1. 0/0 is not 1, but is, in fact, an undefined quantity. :laugh4:

But at least, we have a decent chance of getting to see gunpowder, the Mongols and maybe even the Aztecs.
Actually I would prefer our role-playing to go the other way around and focus on our character aging. I think letting technology advance very fast, while just not paying too much attention is easier, at least for me, than playing some guy who just had his 170th birthday.
For me it would work better this way around, with one Chancellor rule lasting 10 years. I don't think the Diet would give instructions for the next 40 years, that's just too long a timeframe.
What do the others think about this?

Re: Out of Character thread
I've set the game to display years, not turns, so I think it would be easier to anchor things on that meter, rather than on character age. Most characters will age very slowly - in WotS, very few died of old age.
I know it's clunky - personally, I am trying to avoid talking about years at all. For things like governor build queues, I find it easier to anchor things by turns. For policy discussions in the Diet, I think it is useful to divide time into mid-terms (every 10 turns) and full terms (every 20 turns until we have a large Empire). However, we're controlling medieval nobles through an internet forum - some suspension of disbelief is required.

Re: Out of Character thread
I guess it's a matter of personal preference. While I'm inclined towards my approach I'm fine with playing either way. Just wanted to throw that in.
On another note, I just installed the patch and loaded up the savegame to see if everything is working. I did everything like it was mentioned by the patch readme, however in my game the Bishop is just named Peter Scherer, nothing about him being a Warmonger. A sign that I failed in installing the Mod properly?

Re: Out of Character thread
I will remove the Born entries from the Bios. At 2 years per turn, that info will only accentuate our vampire-like longevity.

The error has been corrected. My high school math teachers say thanks.

Re: Out of Character thread
Wow, ok.
I'd be happy to cover for Strappy Horse. I've downloaded the saved game, it does load, and I will look over Innsbruck to come up with a provisional build queue.
Econ, I've installed medifix, I followed the instructions, and the bat file does boot the game, but I'm not sure if it's working. You mentioned the cardinal "Peter the Warmonger" in your game, after loading the save, all I have is "Peter Scherer" with no war-like attributes. Is there anyway I can tell if the medifix mod is working? I downloaded the game from direct2drive, I know people who've gotten it off of Steam and have had problems installing mods, but I haven't heard about any issues with d2d.
I'll look around and see if I can find anything, but I'm not the most tech proficient guy in the world. I had to look up how to make a bat file. *hangs head in shame*:laugh4:
Edit: Ituralde types faster than I do. I was writing this as he posted about the same issue with the Cardinal.

Re: Out of Character thread
If you look at my post, I have the same problem with Peter the Warmonger.
Either we're both not capable of installing the Mod or something else is going on here. :inquisitive:

Re: Out of Character thread
Well "Peter Scherer" isn't as good as "Peter the Warmonger"... but its better than "Peter the Fishmonger" :-)

He'll grow to be a warmongerer one day, dont you worry son
(adaptation of Heinz Big Red tomatoes ad)
What happens with the build orders when we run out of money?

Re: Out of Character thread
Curious about the warmonger - I'll try to investigate tonight.

Buildings are optional - the Chancellor does not have to build any of them; it's just if he does build something in a settlement you govern, it must be the first item on your queue.

Glad to have you onboard IvarrWolfsong! With posts like the recent one from the Diet I'm already looking forward to hearing more from you! :2thumbsup:

Re: Out of Character thread
Well, I seem to have gotten myself into quite an issue regarding my computer.
Desktop, after issueing a series of rather odd error messages on start up over the last few days, refuses to turn on at all, not even going to the windows start up screen. So I'm stuck playing on the laptop until I can figure this out or have it fixed.
This in no way affects my involvement in the game, just keeping everybody up to date with the local weather so to speak.

Re: Out of Character thread
I've had a look at the issue with the Cardinal. It is strange. He is just Peter Scherer if I load the savegame up in M2TW or Medifixed M2TW. He was also Peter Scherer that when I started a new campaign in M2TW. However, when I started a new campaign in Medifixed M2TW, he was "Peter the Righteous" and had an extra virtue (an extra +3 peity being incidentally not reflected in his piety).
I conjecture that characters may randomly spawn extra traits when you start up a campaign. The warmonger title was probably something he got when I started a new game last night (note: I did absolutely nothing in game, so it must have been spawned on start up), but did not save.
It also seems that Medifix may not be a perfect fix (the extra virtue not being reflected in his total piety).
However, I think we just press on with Medifix and our kinder, gentler Peter.

Re: Out of Character thread
Uhoh, I hope this didn't affect Dietrich. I liked his traits the way they were.
EDIT - Yeah, I'm also kind of having trouble with this whole batch file thing. Never made one before, and the medifix's instructions are really unclear. Little help someone?

Inside your main M2TW directory, just create a text file called "whatever.bat" using notepad, wordpad or something. The file has just a single line:
medieval2.exe --io.file_first
Then create a shortcut to it and paste to your desktop (I changed the icon to be M2TW's); double click to run.

Re: Out of Character thread
Speaking of which, is it necessary to set up the mod switcher for this one?

It does not seem to be. If you follow the instructions for installing the mod, you end up with two icons - one runs normal M2TW; the other runs the bat file I mentioned above and so loads the two modified vices n virtues/traits files.
-
Re: Out of Character thread
Great. Thanks. Will install tonight.

Re: Out of Character thread
I see where I made the mistake. I wasn't creating a shortcut to the .bat file. :wall:

Re: Out of Character thread
ok a quick update from me.
whole family, including myself, have been very unwell so I've not been online. I have managed to start a campaign but I'm experiencing some "bugs" with the game.
CTD after a siege "unspecified error"
major path finding issues
inablity to deploy units (i.e. option not available in a siege, units won't move prior to starting the battle)
can't think what else other than that. Good news is though that I have a new keyboard for the laptop meaning I can play the battles better.
I don't envisage the above issues being a major problem though for me taking part though as they appear to be intermittant issues rather than game killing.
Anyway, I'll catch up on everything tomorrow evening and start posting as my 4 year old is the only one still unwell in the house.
So, keep it going and don't destroy the empire until I've joined ya!

Re: Out of Character thread
No problem, Braden - I hope the little 'un gets better soon. :2thumbsup:
Just to confirm - Dlain is now taking the avatar of Otto and IvarrWolfsong is Peter Scherer, new Third Elector of Bavaria.
The list of players and avatars is no longer on the first page of this thread, but at:

Re: Out of Character thread
Glad to see you back, Braden!
Okay, with the passage of the edicts I'm going to load up the savegame and start playing tomorrow (US time). Hopefully we'll get at least a few turns done by the weekend as Monday is a national holiday in the US.
Could Lucjan and Braden possibly post the build queues sometime soon? Otherwise I'm just going to build based on the general consensus of the other ones already up. Thanks.

As a general rule, we should not wait for governors' build queues - if they don't post them by the end of a Diet session, the Chancellor should just build what they like.
For what it's worth, this is what Lucjan ordered in the test thread:
Quote:
Land Clearances to be made around Frankfurt.
The tax level of Frankfurt to be set to High
And this is Tamur's for Vienna:
Quote:
Decreed: that there shall be Dirt Roads built in the Vienna region, immediately.
Decreed: that the tax rate in Vienna shall be upped to the highest possible level, except in the case of seige or pestilence.
