Don't the Casse already have a two handed champion unit in game?Quote:

Alright guys, for the first time ever you will gaze upon a realistic depiction of a Pontic king of our mod's time frame (about 250 BC - mostly Persian still but with some Greek influence). I feel like this one is a little special because of that. Feast your eyes on this one:

It sucks

wait until you see the next one, then you'll see just how good he has become at drawing horses.Quote:

!!! PONTOS FTW!!!! It looks soo.... By Athena's Spear its beautiful.
xprime is working on it for us, but he's been pretty busy lately.
I can imagine. Say, the point in the guy having that bronze-laminate sleeve on just the left arm wouldn't happen to be the troublesome rein hand being defended without having to pay much attention to it ?
great unit people, i think it fit very well with the pontic bodyguards, it is totally Baroque (love it!)
https://img245.imageshack.us/img245/...mmaginehu2.jpg
(chiesa di San Gregorio/Santa Patrizia - im from THE city of the Baroque, im very sensible to that colours)
im sure i was dressed like that 200+ lives ago...
times are mature for a pahlava one? (if the next one is a pahlav general, please announce it before to post it, so to taste the think better)
PS: just for speculation, is it possible to have in rtw different generals for faction, for example for different periods? (an early general and a late general?) just for speculation, not demanding it.
Unfortunately no, that isn't possible.Quote:

very nice work leep it up :)
Thanks Hfox (for the Link).
About the scabbard shape. You have to remember that the sword will have to slide in and out of it as easily as it can. If it was the same shape you wouldn't be able to get the larger end of the makaira out of the then neck-- unless the size was exagerrated quite a bit. But yes i'm not too happy with it as it is (size and shape). If i get time i'll fix it. Perfectionism is a time consuming hobby :beam:
I can't wait to see these units in future builds of EB.
Caratacos has gotten some more work done for us, so we'll move yet another one of his unit development pics into the open forum. These really are showing a dramatic change in his style and ability I think, and this is his best yet possibly. It depicts our designs for the Hayasdan family member (which shares a model with the Pontic General you recently saw).
https://img176.imageshack.us/img176/...ngeneraxj7.jpg
You can't tell me Caratacos isn't teh bomb. He's putting pressure on our model and texture guys now with these glorious images too - hard to live up to his art.
Unfortunately, it is so incredibly colorful that the EB member signature banner version of it that we now release has to be heavily desaturated so that it will fit under the size limit for sig banners here at the org. Otherwise the compression was really awful and ruined the whole thing. Here is the version we will use on other fora so you can see how cool it is  (39kb):
https://img440.imageshack.us/img440/...enia2zblg6.jpg
Here is the one you will see here (10kb):
https://img116.imageshack.us/img116/...menia2zmm6.jpg
By the way, his next ones are really incredible too - can't wait to show more of them!
Feel free to show them then!Quote:

Pssst... TA, have it changed to the newest version, this is the one with the faulty title. When you have changed it, remove this post :smash:
You're right, there were a few teensie touch-ups on the new one as well.Quote:

Hey I don't remember that dust trail being there before....something fishy is going on here... quick call the papers! :phonecall:
Wow. Makes me proud to be an Armenian seeing an ancestor like that. Absolutely beautiful Caratacos! From the shoes to the beard and face, you've really captured the essence of a great Hye leader. Thank you! I can not wait to see this unit in-game.
Got it, I see that there were some shading changes and the title was a little off. The proper one is now in place here.
WHY THE F**** DIDN'T I KNOW OF THIS THREAD BEFORE!!!!
Its freaking awesome :2thumbsup: Nice work dude.
Let me ask you, How long does it takes you to do them?
I always get an itchy feeling about this sort of attitude, but I'll give you he has that "ancient feudal warlord" thing down.Quote:

Thanks. Well it all depends on the detail of the unit (these amoured horses take much longer than a half naked celt, for instance. Painting is the longest part and can take up to 6 hours or so. The sketches take anywhere from 20-60 minutes.Quote:

But where can I see the full ROMANI in ur sig????
The Spartan and the Roman I did especially for the sigs (as people were demanding them-- myself included). So they aren't full units (and both already in game).
Dang I want those sigs....
Dang it! Well its all good, the Sig its awesome!Quote:

Oh man oh man. I love that Inod Greek noble hoplite. I so desperatly want it. I had played as Bactria (It was awsome campaign) and it had CTD. And this new unit would be a great reason for me to start it as Bactria again. I am really in love with that picture. Nice work.
Is there any progress with moddeling this unit into the game?
It's closer to anti-progress at this point for that particular unit, but we're still working on it - we may need some elbow room on trying to make it fit properly though with our model space.
Caratacos has been working on some stuff that's going to be too cool to release to the public before the next build, so we haven't had anything new here recently (well, he's a machine, so this is all relative - they were just coming very quickly before). We've got something for the folks who visit this thread though, and hopefully this will tide you over a little.
These smaller banners are for public use. They are each under 5k, so if you want you can even fit two of them in a signature without them going over the 10k limit. Enjoy!

Very nice! I like the new Aedui banner.
Hey no fair! I can't use add those banners to my sig! It says "you may not link to external websites" is this because I'm a junior member or something?:book:
Awesome work tho, really like that Arverni banner!
Same problem here.. I've pretty much given up on putting any pictures in my sig. ~:mecry:
But yes. Love the Baktria, Getai, and Qarthadastim banners!
Yes.Quote:
is this because I'm a junior member ... ?
Damn! Guess I'll have to go visit the other forums here.:juggle2:Quote:

Anyway, thank you, oh great, invisible ones.. Now I can run around with the spiffy banners!
I like the idea of showing what you are currently playing in your sig, Karielle. If you have multiple campaigns you can just tack more on as well (provided i've drawn a pic for that faction :wink2:)
Hence why Im not playing my beloved Maks, Selukids or Ptolemaioi :furious3:Quote:

Save the desired pic on your computer then upload it to an imagehosting service (imageshack is good- no registration required) then paste the embeddable code (for forums) in your signature and save. Violà.
or you could just copy the image's location via link. Then put on the back like so: . Thats how I did it anyway.:idea2:Quote:

VOTE CARATACOS FOR PRIME MINISTER!!!!!!!!
It worked. Thanks guys. I used The Celts Advice and it worked like a charm.
Your welcome! And now that I've installed the Citymod I'll have to change the Arverni banner to something else since my saved game isn't compatible!!:shame:
(Helloooo Baktria!:2thumbsup: )
Time for another treat for you guys!
Caratacos has done a piece featuring our next Saka Heavy Cataphract unit:
https://img444.imageshack.us/img444/...vycatapka0.jpg
If the steppe guys want to talk about the unit they can, but this is to show off Caratacos' art primarily so I won't start off with anything else about it other than to show it off to you folks here. Now our guys can use the sig banners with it in them too.
All I can say is.......nice mustache!:laugh4:
The best horse so far ;)
One more fan sig banner image is added now also:

Kuzza!
Very nice! I love how backgrounds are being integrated into the recent pieces, adds to the general atmosphere of the artwork.. Marked improvement in anatomy as compared to the first cavalry piece too. I'm willing to bet that art of this quality and calibre is saleable, if Caratacos is so inclined.
Are you a woman Karielle? Must be the first I've seen here. How you doin'?
Great work Caratacos. :2thumbsup:
Oh yeah.... my sig feels good now....
thx Caratacos for making them!
Actually thank Teleklos Archelaou, he makes them. I just draw the funny doodles that appear on them :wink2:
Hi guys since i'm new to the EB world it's my honour to praise the Unit Development Art team.. FANTASTIC Units just FANTASTIC Art :2thumbsup: :2thumbsup: :2thumbsup: especially what you have done with the phalanxes and the hoplites.. keep up the great work !!!
Doing fine, thanks! And well, yes, I'm female, but I'm pretty sure I'm not the only one around here. :balloon2:Quote:

These aren't new units, but they are very nice pics Caratacos did so that we could have some nice signature banners for those factions - and he did such a great job with them that it's a shame you haven't been able to see them at full size.
Just wait till you see the next two sig banner ones at full size!

lol truth be told, Caratacos does deserve that honour. :2thumbsup:
I'm really pleased to have been able to inspire you to draw again after all these years (though i don't know how many). It is very flattering (and i'd never laugh at anyone's creativity). However beware of tracing other pictures, you'll learn next to nothing by going about it that way. Copying pictures is better (that's how all artists begin) but even then it limits you severely. Illustration is a process after all, and if you don't learn the correct process you'll find it very difficult to progress. For years I would draw good and bad pictures and not know why one was better than the other, just getting lucky every now and then. The truth is there are rules that determine whether a picture is good/appealing/eye-catching. These you must learn-- it takes time and a lot of work.
A good illustration, like anything good, must have foundations and be built up from them. That is you must start from scratch. What it appears you have done is trace directly over another picture. That or draw the linework on a new "page" as it sat next to the original. This isn't starting from scratch. If you start from scratch you'll know exactly what is happening on the page. If you construct his body from a basic "skeleton" of lines and shapes* you'll know exactly what his arm is doing behind that shield or if he is carrying his bodyweight on his heel or the ball of his foot. You'll know which muscles he is tensing and which he is relaxing-- hell you'll even know what his toes are doing in his boots! This is the origin of the problems you have uncovered and are asking me about.
From what I understand you don't own a scanner. A digital camera is a fairly decent substitute. If you don't have that a cell phone camera will do the job (but offer lesser quality). Anyway my advice is picking up a pencil and piece of paper and starting again-- though you probably didn't want to hear that, huh?
Draw the "skeleton" and work out the pose so it looks strong and you are happy with it (leave out all details at this point). Once the pose looks good start fleshing out the body. But it's best to start studying some anatomy at this stage-- that's right, naked people. Life drawing classes help immensely. But perhaps that is too much commitment. You can instead try some tasteful nude photography sites-- NOT porn. It's distracting, and if it's not your computer its owner might not be happy about it-- a nice way to get viruses and the like. And when you look at these pictures you are not looking at breasts and bums but muscle, fat and bone. That is, imagine what is happening under the skin that is making the arm do that (or whatever). Are they putting most of their weight on this limb? And what affect does that have on the muscle (etc.). For learning about the different muscles and how they fit together try medical diagrams-- they are very helpful.
But if you wanna cheap it and finish your picture "as is" that's okay too. I'd search online for a face in a similar position and copy it. As for the leg (you mean "his right", right?) I'd raise it a bit at the knee-- his thigh looks longer than his foreleg which is wrong. I'd also lengthen his left foot-- as at the moment it looks too flat (the perspective doesn't look right).
I hope this helps, Caveira. And keep it up! With a bit of work you'll be fine.
*By lines and shapes i mean an elipse for a head, a line going down from there as his spine to a rectanglular pelvis. The arms and legs are simple lines connected by circles that are the joints (shoulders/elbows/knees) and extremities (hands/feet).
