Re: King of the Romans Out of Character thread XIII
Sorry, Bavarians - that was my mix up (Fredericus and Frederich are too similar for my befuddled brain to keep distinct. EDIT: or even to spell, "Friedrich" not Frederich ~).
The Steward's report for 1300 is up:
https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/showp...&postcount=287
It includes a letter from Siegfried penned by Ituralde.
For both OOC and IC purposes, we are now in 1302. I will not press end turn before 48 hours, so people have a chance to react to events etc. I am going to make some moves on the map and see what, if any battles, need to be assigned to other players.

Re: King of the Romans Out of Character thread XIII
It's going to be a busy term for the history books isn't it?
-
Re: King of the Romans Out of Character thread XIII
Just a question, do people want it possible for the Kaiser to be impeached, or do we let this play, as part of the catastrophe.
-
Re: King of the Romans Out of Character thread XIII
just let it go, i think. the charter amendment, if i remember correctly, allows for a twenty year buildup and a twenty year cataclysm.
-
Re: King of the Romans Out of Character thread XIII
Good question. By giving econ21 and TC carte blanc to bring forth Chaos, they could find some way to dodge impeachment. However, that shouldn't stop our characters from reacting in a consistent way to the ongoing events. Of course, it may be difficult to do that, since OOC we know something bad is coming and that can alter our reaction as well.
God knows Matthias is about to start frothing at the mouth, but he just finished his term as Chancellor and is a Bavarian, so he takes the donation of Palermo and Naples very personally.
-
Re: King of the Romans Out of Character thread XIII
People can protest in the Diet, but please don't try to kick out Siegfried just yet. It would kill the plot we've worked out. (I know this OOC injunction is a bit of a plot hole, but we are not Shakespeare...).
-
Re: King of the Romans Out of Character thread XIII
I don't know, somewhere along the line someone's bound to say "A plague on both your houses!"
-
Re: King of the Romans Out of Character thread XIII
Impeachment can only happen with an Emergency Session. That requires the consent of the Kaiser (not gonna happen), the Prince (not gonna happen), or 3 of the 4 Dukes. I doubt 3 Dukes would agree on it quite yet. Even if they do, Elberhard/Theodora could have two of them dragged kicking and screaming from the Diet. If they're not in the Diet, they can't lend their voice to a call for an Emergency Session (so sayeth the Kaiser, who is able to interpret the Charter however he wants). Thus, no Emergency Session is possible and an impeachment vote cannot be brought.
Doesn't mean you can't raise a ruckus though.
-
Re: King of the Romans Out of Character thread XIII
Ask for Siegfried tomorrow, and you shall find him a grave man.
I'm in the mood for some ruckus-raising, but I'm banned and busy eating babies, as PK would say.

Re: King of the Romans Out of Character thread XIII
LOL, save some of your outrage for later. You'll need it.

Fredericus Erlach (Stuperman):

I love the battle report. "My Duke Arnolds!!!" Almost fell off of my chair laughing.

Re: King of the Romans Out of Character thread XIII
OMG, ok, so 1.2 is almost on my computer (a 5400rpm drive does not help install times), and 1.3 is DL'd I might not be able to fight the battle till after class (3 aditional hours). I've got to get FH's patch working too. But it'll be done either way.

Re: King of the Romans Out of Character thread XIII
I've just posted up a co-op story with Privateerkev announcing religious re-unification in 1302:
https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/showp...&postcount=160
-
Re: King of the Romans Out of Character thread XIII
is this religious unification for the whole of europe is it it just a 'Roman' church because if it is for the whole of Europe then surely some other leaders shoul've been involved.
-
Re: King of the Romans Out of Character thread XIII
There's one Roman Catholic Church, so it is for the whole of Europe. It's a religious matter, not a temporal one, so the other European leaders would not be directly involved. Indirectly, they would probably oppose it, but the Pope is German and Germans dominate the College of Cardinals, so I think it is plausible that it went ahead.
The Russians are probably a different matter - we can say there is a Russian Orthodox church that splits from the Patriach of Constantinople. They can stay Orthodox.
In the mod that Factionheir proposed, the Byzantines will not recruit priests anymore and their populations will slowly switch to Catholic. We'll mod in some loyalty bonuses to their buildings to keep them loyal.
-
Re: King of the Romans Out of Character thread XIII
Just a note: Fritz is highly anti-Orthodox if that hasn't been made clear already ~:) He's also rather dark and sarcastic. He might make some comments which will likely be offensive to practicing Orthodox Christians.
I wonder if this is ok? I know it is forum rules not to broach the topic of religion obnoxiously, and I've enforced that as an AM, so I'm a bit sensitive to it.
-
Re: King of the Romans Out of Character thread XIII
ROFL. Classic battle report. :2thumbsup:
I admit a bit of jealousy... I've never had elephants on my side in M2TW.
-
Re: King of the Romans Out of Character thread XIII
In my SP games I always go on Crusade and set up an Outremer. And I park a general in either Baghdad or Jedda who's sole job is to hire "Oliphaunts". If you get 2 Elephants and 2 Elephant Artillery, you can set up an awesome double enfilade fire down the enemy line from both sides.
:2thumbsup:
As Econ showed, their also good for holding a weak flank pretty much all by themselves for a little while. Also you can park the regular elephants right behind your line and because they are so tall, they will fire down right on top of the engaged enemy.

The Org gives some artistic licence for stories in the Mead Hall and here. Personally, I still think we should keep this "Parental Guidance" - hence Elberhard's prolific @#$%^&!!!ing, rather than anything more explicit. But on religion, I think readers will see the context and realise it is in character, and not for real.

Re: King of the Romans Out of Character thread XIII
I sorta have a problem. I have a campaign on Stainless steal mod, that I have been playing for a while now, and I have no itention of giving it up, but it requires 1.2. Now this PBM requires 1.3. Is it possible to have an easier way, then unistallling, installing, uninsalling, installing, the patch?
-
Re: King of the Romans Out of Character thread XIII
You can load the 1.3 it will not affect your save games in the other mods your using.
-
Re: King of the Romans Out of Character thread XIII
Wht happens if I want to start a new campaign in the mod with the 1.3 already installed?
-
Re: King of the Romans Out of Character thread XIII
I am surprised that the HRE is the first to use Panzerphants.
Of course I am also surprised the usually parsimonious Prinz spent 3000 florins on them. I now understand why "financial constraints" led to limited building. :laugh4:

You should not have a problem. You need the 1.3 for kotr without it you will not be able to open a save. You should not have any issues with mods you want to play especially a new campaign. If there was an issue I am sure the creator of the mod would have something on his first page for their mod and advise if there would be an compatability problems.

Re: King of the Romans Out of Character thread XIII
ok, guys, small problem I fresh installed m2tw on my laptop(vista), went to 1.2, then 1.3 all without starting a game. I then started a game, played a turn or 3 (england) and saved the game as england1. I did this to create the saves folder, but I cannot find it. In fact I can't find any of the saves that I had saved. When I search the Sega folder there is no saves folder, In fact searching *.sav yeilds 1 result on the entire computer, KOTR-1302-2 which is expected. Anyone have vista and can tell me where to look?
I can still fight the battle, but it won't be done till like midnight eastern NA time.
p.s. upon further investigation, there is no saves folder in my RTW directory either, but I have at least 2 dozen saves in a brutii campaign on Mundas Magnas. *scratches head* I'm assuming that it's vista as on my XP desktop I've had no such troubles.

Re: King of the Romans Out of Character thread XIII
So based on OK's OOC in the Diet how do we handle the reports that are official and those that are not?
-
Re: King of the Romans Out of Character thread XIII
Well, huh, was the "Game Master's Message" to Ansehelm public IC knowledge or not? We don't have a report for the year yet, so I'm curious.
I'm also going with the assumption that we don't know where Peter is IC, though we can certainly find him when we load the save OOC. Correct me if I'm wrong.
-
Re: King of the Romans Out of Character thread XIII
I think it's pretty realistic if Austrians spot him outside of Vienna
-
Re: King of the Romans Out of Character thread XIII
That's true. It would be kind of hard to conceal the passage of a large army.
-
Re: King of the Romans Out of Character thread XIII
And that's why I used it.
It's not as if a massive army could walk through Arnold's Dukedom and go unnoticed.
Plus 2 Austrian regiments then go and disappear from out under one of my governors nose. He then reports it to me...
...it's all fairly believable to me.
-
Re: King of the Romans Out of Character thread XIII
There might be some funky stuff clear in the savegame that people should not comment on IC because they would not know about - e.g. the location of Tancred.
Where they are quite likely to be aware, I will communicate with the relevant player(s) as a gamesmaster and ideally they should get back to me about what action, if any, they wish to take on the basis of this. For example, I told Ansehelm that one of his Household army's was AWOL as surely the Duke would be informed of that. The message was posted publicly as it would probably leak out. I also told Becker that two of his regiments in Prague had disappeared. That was more idiosyncratic info, so I PMd it. He has got back to me, wanting to conduct his own investigation into the army that passed by around the time he lost his men. I am going to reply to him saying what his spy has found out.
So in this specific case, so far, we have a missing Prussian army and a mysterious large German army moving south through Austria. No one knows yet for sure that they are one and the same, although Becker's investigations will no doubt uncover something.

Re: King of the Romans Out of Character thread XIII
It's not just that the Prussian Army is right outside Vienna, they're sitting on the road as well. You can see the little carts passing through Peter's feet. I can understand econ's wanting to keep it quite, but the army's not taking a very circumpsect route.

Interesting how this catastrophe event is having the unintended effect of making battle lines in the Diet. If we survive this phase and the current generation lives till they're all 70, I'd be surprised if we don't see a civil war.

Maybe I am reading the Diet all wrong, but right now it looks like just me and Kev against the lot of you. I know a civil war would not be exactly fair, since we would still kick your asses, but just saying... :laugh4:

What people fail to realize is that King Jan has buried nuclear missiles in silos out in Outremer. Any civil war starts and the Reich is going to be glowing in the dark.
Yeah, the faction lines are definitely interesting if you study them. There are the two "obvious" loyalists (or lapdogs as people seem to prefer calling them :beam: ). The "anti-Kaiser's" are themselves pretty split on exactly how far to push and what to do. Then there are the fence-sitters who are waiting to see which side wins out. And there are those on both sides who have definitely picked a side but are working behind the scenes. And, last but not least, there are those who are simply apathetic to what is going on and could care less. :book:

Duke Arnold (Overknight proxing for AussieGiant):
Count Fritz von Kastilien (Tamur):
King Jan von Hamburg (Privateerkev):

I actually think it's more likely that the catastrophe will re-unite the Reich behind a common purpose. Of course, I could be underestimating just how much we hate each other.

We'll briefly unite, and then resume the endless bickering over whose fault it was.

I said I wanted Ansehelm to quietly sit through this Catastrophe, so I'm not happy with you guys making him center of attention, I clearly disagreed with all this. Make Arnold center of attention, or Lothar, Tincow and Aussie voted yes in the poll. I didn't.

Ansehelm has been marching straight west ever since I took over. He can stop at Magdeburg if you want.
Sorry if you are pissed off, but in the draft plot that Ituradle, TinCow and I are working to, Ansehelm was never mentioned once. That you perceive him to be the centre of this is not what we planned.
If you really want to sit this out, I suggest that you make Fritz Steward of Franconia for the next 18 turns. There's no point continuing in this vein if it is just getting you angry OOC.

Actually Jan was quite meek and supportive of Ansehelm during the Diet. He has only spoken up now because Ansehelm insists on blaming the Steward and Kaiser for Peter going missing. Check the old Diet pages and you'll see that Jan even defended Ansehelm against Dassel.

Re: King of the Romans Out of Character thread XIII
Stig,
While OOC we know that Peter missing is because of our "plot", we don't know that IC. It is natural to blame the person we perceive to be responsible. Which in this case, is Peter's Duke. I don't want to stop interacting with you IC so we need to figure out how to go about this. When we blame Ansehelm, we are just playing a role. It's nothing to do with you and nothing against you. I know you the player have nothing to do with it. So please understand that if you continue to keep playing Peter's Duke, we are going to come to you with questions about Peter. It's only natural. Unless we work something else out. Maybe you and Econ can think of something and get back to us.
I know stuff is getting heated IC but I want to do my part to keep the OOC all ~:grouphug:

Nevermind, I saw you just said you want Ansehelm to sit this out. Sorry for missing that. :embarassed:
