I think my webspace reach a maximum of hits LOL
Hi all,
We are close to the final beta.
I have to find the thing with the numerals ... It mast be something from the Heroes file I think cause then is when it started but I might be wrong.
Flip I found the bug with the Corinthians in the Colors folder the file was Corinthians.bif instead of Corinthian.bif http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cg...ons/pissed.gif I also made a series of shields for the colours.
Antalis, can you send the castle maps over so I can zip them up
~49MB rar file is what to expect. There are portraits for all butI have reduced Muslim, Pagan and Northtribs to 20 images / folder to avoid a 100MB file.
Further changes include a Pavice shield for Sparabara and a since shield for Immortals
Sir Moody I have finally managed to find the bug in my behavioural calculation and they look good now but further testing is needed. I found a lot of horses in under developed areas cause they could not produce anything else. I might put the need of a blacksmith and a horse farm for javelin cavalry (Hippies Acondiste).
NSG, Yes this is intentional. Greeks did not like musters thus the constant fighting. On top of general high restlessness factors in provinces (especially in the Greek world) the production buildings increase the tendency for rebellion so you have to build things like Gymnasiums, theatres, Palaces, Parliaments depending on the peoples beliefs (Democrats, Oligarchic...). So build some of the "useless" buildings.
The reason for the revolts you are getting has something to do with the heroes file too. You need to get some of them at the start of the game now you have none. I will try to fix that too.
Something like that yes, but there are some serious limitations so please don't get too excited. I'll try to explain. You probably already know most of what I'm about to say, but I'll make it detailed to make sure nothing gets lost.Quote:

When a battle is to be faught and a battlemap selected, the game uses three "region description attributes"("RA" from now on).
For border battles, these RA are given in the startpos.txt file under the header:
//========================================
//Border Info
//Attributes of borders between provinces
//and the maps available to each border
//========================================
For battles within a region:
//========================================
//Region Attributes
//The special characteristics for a region
//========================================
The RAs are:
1) COAST/INLAND
2) Landscape: PLAINS/FLAT/HILLY/MOUNTAIN
Borders has some additional.
Ex:FLT2HLL; Flat to Hilly.
3) NO-RIVER/RIVER
Based on a combination of these RAs, the game selects a battlemap that have names like for example:
flatinland01
flatinlandriver03
flattohillsinland02
flattohillsinlandriver03
hillycoastal08
etc.
By looking at their names the connection between the RA and the battlemaps become evident.
When two or more regions/borders use the same combination of RA, they randomly select among the same group of battlemaps with a given name.
And here comes the key:
As you are using a new strategy map you are maybe using a given combination of RA only once, or not at all.
1)If you are using a RA only once, let's say: INLAND, FLT2HLL, RIVER, you can save your historical battlemap into all maps with the name: flattohillsinlandriver0*.
Or maybe even better, you can save your historical battlemap as one of them, so that you only sometimes fight on historical ground. After all you are changing history in this game
2) If a given RA combination is not used at all, you can give this RA to a region/border you want a historical battlefield for, and name the battlemap accordingly. The "only" problem with this is that the description of the landscape won't be correct when playing, but there may be some solutions for this as well.
When I glanced threw the HTW startpos.txt file I particularly noticed that you have no rivers. This means that every RA combination including RIVER is free to use
The description "River" you get when playing(strat.map) can probably be changed to something like "Historical battlefield" in some Loc.txt file.
As you probably understand, this is not a perfect solution, but it's the best I can come up with.

Good cheer to you all
Finaly finished work for a few days over the christmas hols
I've loaded the 2.1 beta files great menu pages map is alot clearer,but I crash every time I right click on a state can't set taxes etc without crashing States seem to be in the wrong places, have I mucked up the install
Any help would be great
@Norseman:
Yes, that´s possible.
To add a few historical maps would work.
Its a pitty that it doesn´t work also with more then a few maps.
Yeah some maps like Marathon would be good, lets see.
Its a useful suggestion.
We havn´t used the definition "flatinland" till now. River-defintion would not be good, because we trying to add some rivers.
cheers: http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cg...ons/cheers.gif

Is there anyway for me to reduce the uprissings in the mod manually in the files? cause i am getting sick and tierd of the low popular % in the provinces. I have a Garrison of 1700 and more in each and still there revolts.
I wanna use the 5000 soldier i have to conquer greece not bring down revolts.
Hi all,
I know the problem with the Rebelions are big BUT I hvae not tasted it yet ... my garisons are 5 - 6 units in the new provinces but I always build border forts and other buildings that will reduce the effect.
I will see at the moment you can reduce these numbers at the startpos file.
SetAttributes:: ID_LANDREG_02 "Corcyra" 2 CATHOLIC_CULTURE ARID AT_SOUTHERN_EUROPEAN -1 161 "Akropoli_of_Cassiope" COAST HILLY NO_RIVER TRUE
ID_LANDREG_02 "Corcyra" 2
Another way to keep revolts down is to have your spys kill off the low loyalty generals lower your tax when you go raiding build temples or if your sick as you say alter the hellenic build prod2 file and increase the happiness value when you build a tavern for example.
But don't forget this is a beta and changing files or values won't help the people who wrote it your testing the Beta for them any short comings will be change in the final version of the mod
Great mod keep it coming http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cg...ons/cheers.gif
Okay, i tried out the mod.
VERY fun but a few things...
WAAAYYY too many ships. I find it impossible to attack an enemy fleet because its surrounded by other fleets from every faction, in every ocean. Playing as sparta, this is very frustrating as they tend to invade my spartan-training provences.
The rebel thing is very frustrating too. Maintaining large garrisons and building is very hard to do, and i find it impossible to invade another faction without having 3000 man rebellions every province i move. I have to hire a lot of troops to keep the loyalty up and it costs too much money and time and it just looks pretty chaotic in general. I know it was historically correct and whatnot, but I think it goes a little overboard in terms of gameplay. I know building the buildings helps, but building buildings takes many years... and until then i have to garrison the province until they're finished, and then i get invaded the minute i move out and all the buildings i built are destroyed and looted. Gah.
When i assault forts, i look on the map and the 'fort' is a giant 3 walled citadel Is this intended as of now? And some maps are just random plains, but thats probably because the maps arent finished yet.
Otherwise, VERY fun. I fought a last-stand defence against 2 allied factions in one battle, them numbering 7,000+ and me with about 1500. Very fun, and its cool how theres a huge concentration of corpses where the main hoplite battle took place. And chasing skirmishers is always a pain.
Antalis, assalting forts gives a default flat map. Why?
I guess its because of the castlenames in that beta: The numbers are not fitting to the new techtree.
That is fixed in the new beta with the new names of the castles.
btw: komninos: When can you send me the final startpos.txt?, so that I can finish the changing of the rivermaps-names?
Please send it than to me via e-mail or upload it to my server.
Also the final "changes"-txt (if you had changed something) so that I can add my historical battles descriptions.
Do you have a fixed file? I'd like to try.
Another thing. Is it possible to build a Historical Campaign with the new maps and put triggers to chain a set of battles?
Persian Wars/Peloponnesian War/Thebes vs Allies/Xenophont and the 10000/
Yes that´s possible.Quote:

I have historical battles for a persian campaign (3 maps: Marathon, Thermopylae, Plataeae) and maps for a Macedon rise campaign (Chaironeia, Issus, Gaugamela, Granikos) (but I would need this sarissa units and cavalry. So I don´t know if I´ll release this Macedon Historical-Campaign with this version).
A small problem is, that with 300 Spartans the possibilty to die at Thermophyle (like it was in real history) is high and then to have success to come to the next map?
Maybe I give them more, lets see.
What do you think: Should I try to add historical campaigns or should I let them seperate as historical battles?
Or should I make both?
btw: Today I have made a map (not the hist battle yet) of Sphakteria (Peloponesian war).
Hello everyone,
I just wanted to post and say that I LOVE this mod. And many thanks to the people making this mod possible.
I just wanted to mention some tips for helping people with this province happyness problem. Many of the things you can build (improved farmland, mines ,and traders), lower your happyness rating. These buildings make you people work harder, and thus they are very unhappy (improved farmland 4 has a -80 happyness rating). So, dont always worry about building the things that give you a higher income, they will make your poeple the most unhappy. In my opinion, building a couple levels of traders is the best route, you can make a ton of money from trade.
Another thing that can help your happyness rating is using mercenaries. I usually hire a TON of them and use them to garrison my provinces. Most of them have a fairly low support cost. Some times if you have enough of them and you are able to raise your tax level from "high" to "very high", they will more than pay for themselves. By using them to raise your tax level, you can profit from hiring them.
Good luck everyone, I hope that helps some.
OK...
Antalis and Sir Moody ... I have a problem with relaying at the PMs http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/mad.gif but this will answer most of your questions.
Till further notice ... DO NOT try to download the mod files the links will be permanently down ... At least the links that were till now ... http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cg...icons/wink.gif
itkotw,
mercenaries were used a lot for garrison prepossess ... but not in high numbers ... I will have to raise there support cost then http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cg...icons/wink.gif
Antalis, Yes the Maced units will be out some time after the official V.2.1 so wait a bit ... and Yes King Philip first used the Sariza so they did have them.
OK ... it started ...
2 more hours to go ... and a 54.3MB of a rar is in the pipeline

ok, I´ll try to add the Persian wars historical battles to a campaign and will release the Macedonian battles with a later update.
Currently I´m working on some Peloponesian war battles.
I was very buisy today and made 4 battlefieldmaps for it: Spharkteria, Amphipolis, Delion and Mantinea.
I will add these battlefieldmaps also to the normal maps, so the mod has than 84 landscapes.
Good Antalis,
can you chain historical battles? The maps are ready so, I looked to the guides available but I'm green yet on this. Lets try to chain some campaigns to test. You may begin with Marathon, Thermopylae and Platea. I could pass you resources for that. If it works we may go to Peloponesean war. For Macedonians I think we'll need to wait for a upgrade from Komninos. He as plans for that.
For Thermopylae I have a clue. They were surrounded by a force of 10000 Imortlas, just because the Phocians leaved is position on mountains to prevent outflanking. And if the Phocians prevailed there...? Maybe two parts for Thermopylae.
Other thing, what about siege machines? This was a must in greek wars. We have Siracusae as an example.
If the system still shares similarities with Shogun you could have Thermopylae part 1 been the fight with the Phocians involved, and then you could have two other possiblities linking from whether you win or not, if you win you could have extra troops in the battle against the immortals, if you lose you are without the Phocians as an extra troop, just an idea.
Hi all,
The time is 2:20 EET (East European Time)
The
BETA - 2 of HTW V.2.1 is out ... at last
Thanks to all that helped ... Sir Moody ... I think I forgot to mansion you for the Deadpage coord so thank you too (I will add it now for the final sorry) http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cg...icons/wave.gif
The effect of the buildings has been reduced for the revolts. Ships are in it and looking good. All os flips Stuff, ...
One more thing this should play OK ... extract the files in the MTW main folder And Transform the JPG map files to TGAs with ACDSee or Irfanview
Thanks ... I will go get some sleep now.
=================
Thermopile is a bit problematic one ... you have to loose the battle AND your King (To full fill the prophesy from Delphi ..."Sparta has to loose a King or it will fall"). You can't move forward in a Historical campaign if you loose ... I think ...
Here is the line from the Historical Camp files.
//results
Result::1, alliances 5, style DEFEAT
Result::2, alliances 5, style VICTORY, end COMPLETED_UNLOCKED
You can link a defeat to another battle, it was possible in Shogun to do this and by this brief look at the files it is also possible in MTW.
i downloaded HTW 3 days ago. This beta 2 has more content, correct?
id play the mod but basicly im a lazy sod and like self installers......

Tested a little, no problems till now.
Just put that http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cg...cons/angry.gif Deadpage Coords in the right place or we'll get mad forever with that, lol http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cg...icons/cool.gif
...textures/Men/
Nice work, where's the closest bar? http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cg...ons/cheers.gif again
Komninos
I Downloaded your beta 2.1 also moody's work with Flip's 2.1
after a little problem with a left over viking file I've play it 4 some time just one or two missing things which by reading the posts you've put right or made better I would like to thankyou for a great mod your work along with Flip's and others sorry don't know all your names is just great makes me want to start looking at mods in a big way TotalWar is endless with this type of input from people like yourself.
Once again cheer's keep it coming http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cg...ons/cheers.gif
flip:
I´m grateful for every resource you have or can find.
The most important things are strategic maps with units listed (specialy for the Peloponesian war).
Also if I would make a Anabasis Campaign: Could you list (maybe I read the book again, lets see) of the battles there and where they were? I know only of Kunaxa (I guess), maybe with lists of factions (tribes maybe), leadernames and unit-lists?
But I believe that there were more small guerilla attacks from triebs in mountains then large battles.
About Thermopylae: I don´t beliefe that I can make it that if I loose then I can go to the next map, this is hardcoded I guess.
Don´t know a solution, without writing the history absolutly new.
About siege-weapons: At the moment there are none, did the greeks have such weapons?
If yes, I would also agree to implementate such weapons.
Also some battles were won by Athen and some by Sparta in the Peloponesian war.
So give them the exact same troops like it was in history?
It would be strange to play some time Sparta and the other time Athen.
One thing: We have forgotten to write in the readme that you have to copy all images from the "Arid" (in Battles/MapImage) -folder (from the download. That means after you have installed the mod) and put them also in, at least, the "Temperate" folder.
If you don´t do this then you get the false castlemap-image with "temperate" terrain provinces.
(The same thing will be than with the landscapes later).
I havn´t made a temperate-folder because of the size, but I will make it next time for the landscapes.
About the ship icons: Could you make new ones?
The MTW ship icons don´t fitting to HTW.
Look at the links for images, I posted few sites back at the thread.
http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cg...icons/wave.gif Bug report the unit descriptions of Persian Units are missing.Zimoa
Antalis,
Thanks ... It looks like I forgot to include them ... I will zipthem up and make a small patch for them.
=================
OK ... this was a fast one ... so
Ships are in place and Deadpage coords moved to its place.
small patch
=================
Knight_Yellow, a zipped file and an installer are very similar things ... the difference is the installer has the code to auto extract the files ... the transformation of the TGA ... sorry I don't think it can be done with out increasing the download size ... it is ~56MB by now.
==================
ChErNoByl, This is close to the two files you downloaded some time ago but has many new things ... this is close to the final.
==================
zimoa, The descriptions are in there ... I think there is a problem with Persian horse archers most probably I reached the maximum os units ... I will have to delete the MTW descriptions probably.
===================
Antalis, siege-weapons existed ... they were a Greek invention among other things ... they were first used by the Syracusians but then their use spread. The first "Gastrafetes" appeared after the "Mods End" so in the update with the Macedonians ... there will be.
