New Dishonored trailer, looks awesome. Setting certainly is interesting, a twisted steampunk take on Victorian London. These trident-like robots look terrifying alright.

I am wrestling with myself. On the one hand, that looks like a heck of a game. On the other, I loathe and despise "always-on" DRM for single-player games. Kinda don't want to reward them for that.
So ... we'll see how good the reviews are. If it's greeted with universal acclaim, I may swallow my principles and buy it anyway.
Ah, "always on" DRM, I'd have thought that after Ubisoft backed off and returned to "one time activation" we'd see "always on" go the way of the dodo. I suppose that was too much to hope for. :laugh4:
We'll see how SimCity shapes up then. I'm with you Lemur, it'll have to be fairly good to be worth the hassle. I remain impressed, but perhaps a little more skeptical than before.
There's even some question about whether SC will primarily run through Steam (which I can tolerate, since Steam (a) brings value to the table beyond DRM, and (b) has an excellent offline mode) ...
... or require the Origin service to be online at all times (which is one too many ducks in the sewage pond, if you ask me).
-edit-
This makes me break out in nervous groin sweat: "SimCity will require players to be logged into EA's Origin service to play the game, even single player."
Which means if you do in fact get the jack sparrow version of the game you can rely on a project that was loved by some people enough to share it with the world. These people have listened to others demands and have removed the always on DRM.
Not that im condoning such a horrendous or illegal action, but it did kinda renew my faith in some other company's games while they went through a dark period of 90% theft rates.
Pff, I don't want no Origin and the whole "a street solves all your transport issues for everything" system may be a bit simplistic as well, might skip the whole thing.
As an update, RPS runs down all the crazy bonus features the game will have thanks to the overwhelming amount of support received.
Between Kickstarter and Paypal contributions Obsidian generated over 4 million dollars for Project Eternity, from crowd funding. That is almost beyond belief.
Watching them state each new goal and it getting blown away shortly after was pretty exhilarating. I do worry that they will struggle to create all this content in the timeframe they've set themselves, 18 months or so?
A new isometric fantasy rpg and a sequel to Wasteland? I kinda like this Kickstarter thing!
I admit I upped my own contribution when they posted the $3.0 and $3.5 mil stretch goals. Those were good ones.
It'll be very interesting to see how this generation of Kickstarted games turns out. We've seen a lot of Kickstarter success over the last 8 months, but it's going to be years before we know whether this method of game financing is actually viable.
So, Bioshock Infinite is available for pre-purchase on Steam now. With a release date of February 26, 2013.
Are we really at the point where it is acceptable to pre-purchase a game at full price four and a half months before release?Quote:
Available: February 26th, 2013
This game will unlock in approximately 4 months, 2 weeks, and 20 hours
What's even crazier is that people are apparently more than happy to do so. Bioshock: Infinite has broken the top ten best sellers on steam, it's currently sitting right behind Counter Strike: GO.
Personally I loathe the idea of pre-purchasing digital copies, but I compromised with XCOM for the free Civ 5 and the bonus customization pack. Here though.. I dunno. Seems way too early in my opinion. The pre-purchase bonus for B:I is nowhere near as good either... a free flash game. Fantastic
Specially considering that Bioshock Infinite's development has been rather troubled.
I'm pretty certain there was news recently about top devs quitting the studio.
It's not weird in the context of the gameworld
I'm interested in Dishonored, but the short play time (reviews seem to reference about a 15 hour game) is putting me off a bit. I'll probably save it for a Steam sale for that reason.
You will probably want to play it more than once because it's fun to mess around with different playstyles. 15 hours of gameplay is hardly a short game imho by the way.
Well, when you can get a game like Skyrim for the same price, which has probably around 100 hours of gameplay without even taking into account replayability... 15 hours seems kind of short.
That said, my roommate has it and I've been watching him play it (don't like the 1st-person stealth mechanic myself, but the game does make it work). It seems closer to 20-25 than 15 hours, and it's definitely conducive to replaying at least once - i.e. once where you kill nobody and once where you go crazy with cool powers and tear people apart.
The one thing that seriously disappoints me is the graphics, though. And I'm not even usually crazy about photo-realistic detail. I'd be fine with the stylized art that they've got going now, but there's just a lot of grainy pixels and blurry textures and sharp polygons where there shouldn't be. It looks like a game that came out at the beginning of the Xbox 360's lifetime rather than the end of it.

Halo 4 is looking like pure awesome. Need new xbox.
It's interesting and I would probably play it if it ever saw the light of day, but I'm more excited by this.
Alright...so you've heard the age old news...PC gameing is dying, well...I got a new one for you!
Why console gaming is dying
