Fun game between England and Germany today, looking back at the game against Ghana I was really afraid this would be it for Germany today. So I was quite surprised to see the Germans pla the way they did.
Louis is right, if the 2nd English goal would have counted the momentum would have been in the English side, then again overall the Germans were the better team. And in combination with 66 it seems to be all fair and square now. :laugh4:
Looking forward to Argentine, as long as the Germans make sure not to make as stupid mistakes as the Mexican defence did today, we might actually have a shot. But it's gonna be a close one.

Re: The unofficial World Cup Thread,
Interesting picture of the "goal"
That the ball was clearly behind the line is nothing new ... but what is Neuer doing there relaxing 2m above the ground?

Very nice picture of Neuer, Ser. :laugh4:

Yeah, I too thought that was a bit Lahm of Gregoshi.
It's Löw to poke fun at England's Fabiolous performance, when without the ref it might have been a Klose call.

It's a bit Lamphard not to get a little Green when you see Germany go thRoo, though. :laugh4:

Re: The unofficial World Cup Thread,
All these puns are a bit like my take on this World Cup business - lots of shots but none scored (self included). Well, at least none of them went over the line - right Joooray? ~;) In my book, Ser wins the comedy award for his picture comment about the German goalie "lounging". :laugh4:
BTW, Joooray, your profile location gave me inspiration for my pun...that and an inept attempt at burning a German flag. Sorry if any offense was taken. ~:pat:
Seriously, I haven't watched as much of the WC as I have wanted, but I have changed my tune a little. Aside from all the diving, the mystery of "extra time" and some blown calls, I've rather enjoyed watching the games. :2thumbsup:

Oh, no need to Müller over that pun too much. It may have gone over that German's head, but to be Frank, the rest of the world considered it a great Cole.

Re: The unofficial World Cup Thread,
SLOWAKIA WHY! I LOVED YOU! You got rid of the Italians, and then you lose.
Argie - Mexico was horrible, Argies diving everywhere... bleaugh. Germany were fluid, and excellent on the counter. Germany to rip through that soft Argie underbelly. The swift counter-attacking game will destroy the Argies top-heavy formation (3 Strikers, 2 AMs and 1 actual Mid!?!?).

The "we wuz robbed" line only works when you play well and lose. When you play that poorly then there's a reason you lose.

Re: The unofficial World Cup Thread,
Brazil 2 - 1 Chile
Brazil to quietly get the job done, with minimum fuss and just enough samba flair to score 2 nice chances.
-
Re: The unofficial World Cup Thread,
Brazil 2-1 Chile.
Quiet match I predict.

Great clash between Spain and Portugal coming up. Always rivals, and this time both teams are strong. Good luck Ronin, Afonso and Jolt!

Wait...what? I had never heard of that!
Wiki:
Batlle of Aljubarrota, 1385
Portugal:
6,500 men
600 English longbowmen
Castile:
31,000 men
2000 French heavy knights
Result: A resounding, utter, complete and devasting defeat of Castile / France.
2000 French knights rode all the way to Portugal to be send packing by English longbowmen? They could've stayed home for that. :laugh4:
Go Castile! For king and fatherland! It's payback time for that uppity Spanish province on Iberia's southwest shore!

This time it seams the French are already at home...:laugh4: and the longbows too...:laugh4: it's just us and them so don't worry, unlike the province of catalonia we always managed to keep our sovereign.

Re: The unofficial World Cup Thread,
Paraguay 1-1 Japan (Japan on penalties)
Spain 3-0 Portugal
Sorry, Portugal, with that level of modest gameplay you're only going this far. Hopefully nobody will remind me about 7-0 against a 70's-methods-trained first-timer North Korea.
