Happy New Year,
Apparently you all have gone headlong with the mod, ...
Any way I will try to merge all the changes in the production Excel files I use.
Now Sir Moody can you develop a nice Hero file for each of the period. for Dark Age the names I have set are OK but for the rest are not good. Also some Generals, emissaries, ... are needed in each faction. Can you look in to it?
Some thing new now ... last night I have made an attempt to merge the Trojan war units in the HTW map and using the most of the stuff we have for HTW. It took me ~2hours but it went OK. So We can easily built a mod starting at 1600 till 1000BC http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cg...cons/smile.gif this will be a detail to the one planed for the larger map but will make unit development fast and easy. First Test was Great.
DJ can we work together on the Chariot thing?? I have some limited knowledge to make it but it will look a lot better with your input.
To Kom and all you modders have a great NewYear http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cg...ons/cheers.gif
Great web site Zimoa that opening page will have people wanting more Have along lay in tomorrow youv'e all erned it
http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cg...cons/santa.gif http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cg...s/bigthumb.gif
Kom yes i can develop one Heros file per age BUT this will only aply if they player starts in the age so if they start on Geometric and move onto Clasical they still will use Geometric names
Another thing i can do thru the Hero File is set Real life Kings and Heros to pop up during the campaign - all i need is a list of the heros/famous kings ud want and the date they came into being http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cg...ns/biggrin.gif
oh yes and happy new year all
http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cg...icons/wink.gif There was a problem on the site with the textfiles(fixed it now),used Matisse ITC as letter type to give a Greekish and Ancient look but when you have a slower modem or surfer you see all text in Roman. Now i have ADSL so i see the site in Matisse, everybody else is this the case for you too and if not,no problems in the text? Can't check this myself so please give some feedback when you see any flaws.Komninos is the site ok,do you want more info on it for your future plans?Let me know here in the forum or give me a mailzimoa@pi.be if you have things you like, don't like,or want to add.One more thing you are all more involved in the total war community so is there a possibility the site can be placed on the org, also made some links to our friends of NAPMTW and MEMTW some links back maybe?Don't know which leg to pull.Wish you all the best for 2004.

Good news:
All the landscapes are ready to get added to the mod, also the Persian wars campaign and the three historical battles http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cg...cons/smile.gif
Antalis http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cg...cons/wacko.gif
Great site gentlemen http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cg...ons/cheers.gif
Allthough, I am flattered to be on the "makers" of the mod, I haven't done much "making" since my initial involvement in the unit line-up and descriptions, and so I think it is a credit not deserved.
"Contributor" would suffice, methinks.
Keep up the good work and create a fool-proof version of the mod, so everybody can enjoy it http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cg...s/bigthumb.gif
Oh, and a very, very happy new year to all of you http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cg...cons/santa.gif
Could we make the colors of the Thessalia- and Boethia-factions a bit more different?
They are too simillar.
>>Could we make the colors of the Thessalia- and Boethia-factions a bit more different?
They are too simillar.
I found that also. Also Persians are Yellow, not orange anymore, maybe we have to change the fac shields and flags for that faction
Hi all,
I think we can declare the thread as the most active thread on the boards http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cg...ns/biggrin.gif
OK, Thessalia and Boeotia will be changed (I think I will invert the colour so Thessalia will be white-blue and Boeotia bluw-white).
Persians are Yellow but more to the Red side with out being orange ... any better ideas will be helpful.
I have been fascinated with the older period so I have finally ported all the stuff of the Trojan mod to the HTW map and now it works nicely ... would you like to see the stuff in the next update???? (I just don't have bif chariot units) http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cg...s/rolleyes.gif
BTW ... don't worry I will make those Phalangites you all to have ... I just take some time off
I would give the Boethians and Thessalians absolutly differnt colors.
Athen has also blue.
I think one blue faction is enough.
Thanks to our Italian friends.Ti amo,ti... amo,www.genovino.it

To all
I don't want to take up your time Kom,but just finished a long beta test with no new bugs, so I try my hand at making a new unit" just 4 fun" Called it Veteran Elite Polemiste alter the hellenic unit file just to give it some minor changes just to reflect a vet soldier tighter formation etc change the shield to the Hoplites increased the cost(alot),but reduced the build time because vet's don't need so much trianing worked great I'm hocked I'll be reading up on the posts on how to make new graphics I think the best thanks 4 you is when your work influences others http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cg...ons/cheers.gif
Hello Development Team, Happy New Year to You all
I know You are busy with the Mod, but perhaps besides You can help me, too.
I am trying to install HTW 2.1 but have some strange problems. The link to the guide a few pages back is out of order and I don't understand the install instructions from the HTW-homepage.
I have created a folder C/.../Hellenic-total war for a new installation of MTW + VI + Patch2.1. From campmap/portraits I have copied the Viking folder and named the copied one "Hellenic". But what does "paste" mean? Must be a PC special for I cannot find a senseful meaning in the dictionaries I have available. Does it mean: let the renamed folder "Hellenic" quietly rest in the campmap/portraits folder? I did so.
Shall I delete the Viking folder? I did not do so; instead I let it in the campmap/portraits-folder.
I unzipped the mod and the smallpatch directly in the folder C/.../Hellenic-total war. When the programm asked wether the existing files should be overwritten I clicked "Yes". Is this right or must the Mod-Files be added to the existing files? I don't think so, but...
Then I looked for the files to change with IrfanView. Now the problem: there are no files MapTex.jpg and MapTex2.jpg in the folder textures/campmap/hellenic http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cg...s/confused.gif http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cg...s/confused.gif
What is wrong? Hope You can help me
PS: Special question to Antalis. Does a install instruction in German exist?
dunnichen
hi, you did everything well, overwriten its the way.
Just check that you are getting the right patch "HTW-Beta-2-V-2-1.rar" 55.633K.
Now tell me the complete path to your HTW install "C/.../Hellenic-total war". I suspect its a incorrect install procedure. There's a generic folder"MTW", you may change the name to it, then inside a default folder "Medieval - Total war", dont change this name. Its in this last one you have to put the files. Paste meens "leinen" in dictionary.
KOMNIONS
Can you change the intro video I know the rome one on the VI is not greek ,but is nearer the time scale of HTW.
Dunnichen
You'll need two programs Winrar and infan view both can be found on WWW.google.com
I'm not one of the development team ,but a long player of this great mod. What I do to install is this
1 Make sure it's a clean install upto VI2.01
2Click on explore metw
3click on search in your tool bar type in Vikings click ok
4Rename all the viking FOLDERS to Hellenic, you may be stopped on one ,but carry on until all are do.
5 go through previous again you should have one more to do
6 Now extract mod into METW DIR it will ask you if you wish to overwrite click yes to all
7 Now this is the point where you can become stuck.
You'll need a program called infan view its on the posts or use google to find it
Click on explore METW click on textures/campmap/hellenic
8 Inturn open both the map files Maptex2 Maptex with infan view and then save as an tga file remember where you save them.now go to your saved map files highlight them both right click copy
go back to textures/campmap/hellenic folder in METW and click edit in your tool bar click paste Done
Works for me
Best of luck http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cg...s/bigthumb.gif
ok, download these three files:
Beta:
Beta
Small patch (for ships):
small patch
startpos fix:
startpos fix
Installation:
1.Use a new installation of MTW+VI.
- Then unzipp the "Beta" into the new MTW main directory.
- Unzipp the "Small patch" into the same directory.
- Unzipp the "Startpos fix" to a folder outside of the new MTW installation (rename it to HTW if you want) and copy all three files of it into your "campmap/startpos"-folder.
2. Now open your "Textures/campmap/Hellenic" folder and convert the "mapTex.jpg" and "mapTex2.jpg" to TGA format.
Use "IrfanView" for that:
IrfanView and put the two tga´s into the same folder.
If you don´t have the english version of MTW: Open your "Loc" folder:
After you have installed all three files (Beta, Small patch and Startpos-fix) from above you get a "Eng"-folder in this Loc-folder.
Open it and copy all files from it to your language folder: In my case from the "Eng"-folder to the "German"-folder.
Now it should work.
Why does the mod always crash in the campainmod. I have started a new campain with the lakodemians in the second period, and then, when I want to end the first round, the game crashes. Why????????????????
Thanks a lot, flip, youone and Antalis.
I had a version of HTW 2.1 with only 15 MB.
http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cg...s/rolleyes.gif
Now I've catched the real one and will try again.
Your explanations differ a bit from each other and also from the instructions on the homepage. Are there several ways to succeed?
Antalis, is it not longer necessary to rename the folders from "Viking" to "Hellenic"? Is it not necessary to copy the folder "Battles/Mapimage/Arid" und put it in the folder "Temperate"? Don't you have to delete the Campmap/Portraits/Hellenic/Orthodox and copy/ put in instead the catholic folders?
When (if) I succeed in installing the Mod I could write a install instruction for PC stupids like me for the homepage if You think it is necessary. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cg...icons/wave.gif
Yes you don´t have to rename a folder anymore.
Also you don´t have to copy any portaits and paste them anywhere.
About the Mapimages: Forget it for now.
Its not that important.
If you don´t copy and paste them from the Arid into the Temperate folder (in Battle/Mapimage) then you get no image in temperate terrain provinces for castle previews.
But copy it AFTER you had installed the hole mod, not as first act.
About the CTD: I don´t know if there is really a bug.
Its so wirad, I know that problem, but other times with a new install it works... .
I search to find the reason for that.
Till now with no success.
If something is really wrong: After a long search I guess it would have something to do with the Unitprod or Buildingprod.
Maybe also with the campaignmap.txts.
But I guess with the unitprod or build.prod .
Because if you try to use the old v1.0 camp.txts, unitprod and buildingprod with the new v 2.1 then also the problematic installation works (were this CTD was).
Mzocker, you'll need to reinstall MTW+VI and reapply the mod, that seems to be the only solution now. I had the same problem and it seems the developers were stumped as well.
Kom do you think i can have a set of starting dates in Real life terms i know you posted em some time back but for the life of me i cant work it out - i can then start releasing some Real Life king Packs
dunnichen
Antalis is the collect way to install V2v2-1 beta the way I explained it was for the early version (13mb) which by mistake is the one I thought you wherw trying to install
hope youv'e got it working
http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cg...s/bigthumb.gif
First at all, you´re doing a great work with this mod, is very good. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cg...icons/cool.gif
However, i see a important issue here, the Trade system distorts the playable. There are too many ships and the trade income is too decisive and generates too profits. And if the engine of MTW doesn´t stand out, is the naval combat and trade system.
For example, in my current game (begin 250), playing Spartans:
Year 278:
Illyrians -112543 F
Macedon +33825 F
Athene +140969
Corinthea +194687
Lacedem +54776
Boeotea +11512
Lydians +384798
Argians +47636
Year 300:
Illyrians -21203 F
Macedon +5514 F
Athene +64299
Corinthea +172714
Lacedem +17934
Boeotea -40862
Lydians +40648
Argians +43881
Sincerely, this isn´t a balanced game. IMHO, i look for a similar trade system as Medieval: decrease rather the number of resources and to be a secundary thing. However if a player gets a good trade net, the profits can be interesting. And make taxs the main income (as Medieval).
I know that Trade was very important during Ancient Greece however Medieval isn´t a good trade game and orientate it in that direction, would be follow the wrong way.
http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cg...cons/smile.gif
Success at last http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cg...icons/idea.gif
I get it running, it is quite easy if one follows Antalis advice.
The Mod is great work. The units look much better than in the original MTW. How did you manage this?
I fear for the rest of my hollidays I have to play, play, play...
There are minor things to change but I think you know what it is. Pictures of units for example. If you can't get one of some perhaps I could draw something.
To the trade system I cannot say much now but it is very important to balance it because in MTW the nation with more money wins. I would like if every nation (except the Persians) would have little money because I don't like huge armies.
Could you tell something about the files in which the abilities weapons are defined? I looked to the hellenic-unit-prod but I can't find definitions of the projeciles (for slings for example) in the projectile-stats-file.
I will have a deeper look to the hellenic-unit-prod in the next days. On the first look compared to MTW most units seem to have very high melee boni but why not if balance is okay.
By the way: Akondistes have defense bonus 2 and armour level 2, Peltasts defence bonus 0 and armour level 1. Both units seem to be without armour in the pictures. Did the Akondistes wear some form of armour? Otherwise they should have the same value as peltasts.
But now I have to go back to HTW
http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cg...icons/wave.gif http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cg...s/bigthumb.gif http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cg...ns/biggrin.gif
PS: The only thing I realy don't like is that many lightly
armed units seem to wear big heavy military boots although they should go with bare feet. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cg...cons/mecry.gif
http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cg...icons/wave.gif Sorry the install instructions were a little dated, changed it on the site so it is ok now.Planning on doing some "look" changes over the weekend.Cheers, hope you all enjoy playing it http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/pat.gif
