Kleonemos looks Hierax and says...
"Good luck with that! Make sure that Petra and Ptolemaioi armies nearby are destroyed. It would make life in Alexandreia much easier when we don't have to worry about Ptolemaioi armies approaching from east!"
"Welcome, brother! I am very happy to see that you've finally come of age. Command my army with honour and bravery, and prove that you have royal blood flowing in you. With it you cannot fail."
Patrokles walks into the council room, his armor muddy and speckled with flecks of blood.
Gabai has fallen to the 1st babylonian, we took 40 or so casualties, but are ready to move on at a moments notice. we await the Basileus command.
"So all the land the filthy Pahlavans stole from us except for Prophthasia has been retaken?"
Sarpedon smiled and stroked his beard.
"Very good... very good... Well! If that is correct, you should secure the region and take proper precautions so that it doesn't happen again. After that is done, you move on and take Propthasia. Oh, and strategos..."
Sarpedon looked deep into Patrokles' eyes for a couple of seconds.
"Kill them all."
Understood. the Arche will be restored once again, by any means.
Sarpedon, dear brother, Karmana is the last settlement that have not been taken by our forces or that have not been 'rebelled' back to us.
Patrokles, these are good news! We feared too much it seems. King of Persia, Sokhrab, is still out there though. Be careful because I've heard that he may have some armoured horse archers with him! Also, there is still a rather large army near Propthasia!
"Thank you, brother. I have concentrated on the war efforts in the south, and that's the cause of my confusion. So the orders are, of course, to take Karmana, not Prophthasia. The job is not likely to be easy, however, since reports say that they have some elite heavy cavalry there, and the big army my brother speaks of is not far away either. I think you have a tough job ahead of you."
I am ready for any task that may be ahead, the first babylonian will not let you all down.
The ambitious youth bows one more time before his King. A simple, military bow. He then puts on his helmet and strides outside of the chamber.
[Exit Hierax]
________________
About a year later
Hurried steps are heard outside of the chamber. The door suddenly opens, rather violently and a man who can barely breathe steps inside, immediately falling to his knees.
[Enter messenger]
"My Lords," he begins "I bring most wonderful news. My Lord Hierax Syriakos sends word from his campaign in Sinai. He has slaughtered two armies of the Ptolemaioi and the mighty Paramonos Philopator has been slain by Hierax's own sword in battle. The Royal Army now lays siege to Petra once more and the city will probably be overtaken in the next season.
He sends this message for the King:
My most noble Basileus,
I start by humbly thanking you for the trust you have shown me. I hope it has been repaid, at least in a small fraction by the victories I have brought in your name. Come summer, your army will scale the walls of Petra and we shall claim the city as our own.
Yours forever loyal,
Hierax"
The messenger pauses to catch his breath, then finishes:
"I will continue the campaign against Egypt.
That is all."
All glory to Hierax for a wonderful victory.
My lord the 1st babylonian is almost at karmana, and I plan on taking it before the year comes to a close, which begs the question where do we go from their? do we have plans to continue a campaign against the Phalavans?
"That is to be decided now."
Sarpedon paused, waved his hand to a slave who immediately ran up to him, and leaned in close. Sarpedon wispered something in is ear, and then the slave ran away. A few minutes later he returned with a bottle of wine, and two nearly naked female slaves were with him. While the two female slaves started giving Sarpedon a massage, Sarpedon, all the while drinking the wine, proclaimed in an almost distant, disinterested voice.
All right, it's time for another Council Session. It starts now and will last for three days before it ends at 23:00 GMT in the 3rd of April, after which a vote will be held for 48 hours.
As he said this, he seemed to be concentrating more on the girls than the actual message, and it took a while for him to say even such a short thing, what will all the short pauses he took now and then. Almost as if he regretted he had to continue speaking, he threw a quick glance at Hierax's messenger, in a lame attempt to signify that he was now addressing him.
"Go... go get Hierax Syriakos. I'll congratulate him in person."
well then to start things off I am declaring I will be running for chancellor.
about the orders of the 1st babylonian, I will wait for everyones opinion on our situation, we should decide whether we are going to press on into the steppes, or leave the Phlalavans to their fields.
Sarpedon waves to a scribe, who nods and steps up to speak.
"Our noble lord, Basileus Sarpedon Syriakos, has instructed me to, in his name, propose the following Charter Amendments:
Charter Amendment 8.1: The Basileus may propose one Charter Amendment/Council Session that automatically succeeds with no need for a vote. (This will edit rule 2.4.)
Charter Amendment 8.2: The Basileus should be given the ability to veto an unlimited amount of edicts or charter amendments. (This will edit rule 2.4.)
Charter Amendment 8.3: If the Basileus wish to remove a satrapy, he should now need only 1/2 of the Council to agree. (This will edit rule 2.2.)"
The scribe bows first to Sarpedon, who barely notice him, and then to the Council.
Patrokles twists his head to the side this seems a bit much doesnt it Basileus. your edicts almost always go through, what possible reason do you need for these amendments?
I propose the following
Edicts 8.1: after the fall of the last revolted phalavan settlement the 1st Babylonian army will return to babylon to retrain and for a order of leave, after this it can be redaployed to any theater of war the Arche requests.
I would do me good to see babylons walls once again.
Tabaiou Persikou rose to speak
"I second Edict 8.1"
Sarpedon looked at Patrokles for a while, with an annoyed expression.
"I want them to go through because as a king, I deserve to rule as one as well! What good does my title do if I am merely an equal amongst the rest of you? Sheep must have their shepherd, or else they would be consumed by the wolves. You are the sheep, but if I am to be able to act as your shepherd, I must have the ability to do what is necessary to keep you safe! Like little boys, politicians do not always know what's best for them, and this is all the more true the more power they get."
Sarpedon rose from his throne and strolled on the floor.
"And just like the parent should be allowed to force his son or daughter to do as he wants them to, I must have the same ability here, for make no mistake: I am your father. I am your king. You must do as I say, for your own good, and if you stray, I must set you straight so that you can find your way again. It is not too much to ask that I should be allowed to reign over my kingdom as I please, is it?"
Sarpedon stopped for a moment, and looked around the Council.
"I have defeated Ptolemy. I have chased his barbarian hordes down, and I have destroyed them. Truly, it is by my hand that we are where we are today. You should all be thankful that I let you have this Council, and let you have a say in what things a king would normally decide for himself. I could at any time dissolve this Council entirely and just do as I please, as quickly as my father created it. Is it too much to ask that, while you retain your voting right, I get just a teeny bigger piece of the pie? If I haven't earned it through title, I have most certainly earned it through deed."
Sarpedon retook his place on the throne and sipped the wine while the woman started massaging him again.
(you said curia by the way, I dont think we are in rome at the moment)
Patrokles looks up at the basileus, fair enough, your words strike true. You hold the power here, and have earned it by blood and by deed. None of us will contend that....
Panaitolos, nods...
"Indeed, we are your loyal servants in the larger aspect; it is only sensible that a king be allowed to rule in a kingly manner."
OOC: haha...kingly
Panaitolos what do you believe should be done about the phalavans? do we press on, or hold back on attacking their homelands. and what do you believe the 1st babylonian should do after it conquers karmana, I believe heading to Babylon to retrain is the only smart thing, it has the best barracks in a few thousand miles.
"Ah yes but the march is the problem. Getting the 1st Babylonian back to Babylon would take some time. I think that now, while we have the Pahlavans where we want them, we should hit them in their own homeland. Your army should simply be re-manned for any losses, armor and weapons can wait. I believe then all forces already in the east should strike hard and fast against our enemy making them feel the pain we had felt when our own rose against."
Hierax had entered unnoticed in the middle of the king's furious speech. Silently, he questioned one of the scribes present. For a few moments he sat quietly, choosing his moment to speak.
"My fellows Strategoi," he began "I apologise for my appearance" He was still wearing his armour "I have returned from Sinai and have not had the time to whipe the sand off my armour." He paused for a moment, he was still nervous addressing his superiors. "Noble Patrokles, I wish you the best of luck with your army, I am of the same opinion as Panaitolos, the Pahlavans should be crushed for their transgression." Another pause.
"Mighty Basileu!" He thundered suddenly. "We are your humble servants. My sword, my life- they are yours to command. My life, I would gladly give for the Empire, for your our king. Your will is our command. Let me then be the first to second all of your proposals. If... it is allowed." His voice trailed off as he looked around the hall as if for approval that he had not stepped out of line.
OOC: If you didnt get it already, I second all proposals. Edict 8.1 and all of TCVs CAs!
(OOC: I did not get it because you did not say that IC ~;))
Kleonemos stands..
My father, the true Basileus Antiochos, would never allow this kind of hunger for power! He was a man of great wisdom(OOC::saint:) and in his wisdom he called many of you here so that you could help him govern this mighty Kingdom!
What You are trying to do now, Sarpedon, is to take away any power this Council have! I am against these changes you proposed! Do I have to remember that you only became Kleronomos Basileios because Theodoros decided to live a simple life as the governor of Ekbatana and stay away from active politics? Never forget that!
Kleonemos takes his seat and looks around to wait the reaction from others on his words..

OOC: These are the Civil War Rule changes and I propose all of them in one Ammendment:
Charter Amendment 8.4: Rules 5.1 and 5.3 will be changed to this:
Quote:
*5.1 Declaration of War
Civil War can be started by Satraps/Strategos Hetairos/Strategos Chreophylax/Commander of Army only. A Satrap/Strategos Hetairos/Strategos Chreophylax/Commander of Army must make a Declaration of War towards a specific Satrap/Strategos Hetairos/Strategos Chreophylax/Commander of Army or Basileus in a public thread before they can attack any of that persons armies or settlements. A Declaration of War applies to all Generals who are named as Aids of both the Satrap who makes the Declaration and the Satrap who is the target of the Declaration.
A Declaration of War does not apply to any Generals who are not in any way connected to the declarer or the target.
Neither the Satrap who made the Declaration of War, nor anyone who act as an Aid of that Satrap, can attack the target of that Declaration, or anyone who act as an Aid of that Satrap, until the target(s) have been provided with one full turn's worth of movement.
This rule does not limit movement in any way, nor does it prevent the target(s) of the Declaration of War from attacking the declarer(s).
These new ranks will be added to Rule 2.4Quote:
5.3 PvP Battles
Whenever two hostile armies enter same province, a PvP Battle will occur, even if the armies have movement points remaining.
All other players in that region have the chance to pick a side or declare neutrality in that battle even if they have declared themselves neutral at the start of the Civil War.
If both players agree, the battle will be fought via multiplayer, with Ibn-Khaldun, Warmaster Horus, or anyone they choose acting as umpire.
The umpire will determine the map and the precise composition of the armies.
If the battle is not fought via multiplayer, there will be a 24 hour voting period to determine how the battle will be fought.
The voting options will be (a) Tabletop Battle (b) Abbreviated Tabletop Battle and (c) AI Battle.
All players may vote, even those not involved in the battle, all votes will be unweighted, and the option that receives the most votes will be chosen.
Tabletop Battles will be in the style of the Battle of Bern and the Battle of Trent and will be umpired by Ibn-Khaldun, Warmaster Horus, or anyone they choose.
Abbreviated Tabletop Battles will be identical to a Tabletop Battle, but will be 1 turn in length.
Players will determine their starting positions and outline a general strategy for the battle.
The umpire will then play out the battle and determine the victor.
The umpire may allow a maximum of 1 or 2 additional turns beyond the starting turn if they so choose.
The Abbreviated Tabletop Battle will be run by Ibn-Khaldun, Warmaster Horus, or anyone they choose.
AI Battles will be custom battles in the TW engine in which the AI will control all units on both sides.
AI battles will be umpired by Ibn-Khaldun, Warmaster Horus, or anyone they choose.
The umpire will determine all settings to be used in the battle, including the map and the precise composition of the armies.
Regardless of the type of battle chosen, the umpire must attempts to have the battle replicate the in-game state of affairs to the best of his ability.
Regardless of the type of battle chosen, the umpire will determine the results, including, but not limited to, units to be disbanded as casualties, avatars to be killed off as casualties, and changes in the control of provinces.
Console commands may be used to implement the results.

I second Kleonemos' charter amendment 8.4
I second CA8.4
I for one am not sure that heading into the steppes would be a good Idea. There is a reason the Arche has never traveled into the steppes where the nomads roam, and I am not sure the Phalavan homelands would be worth the effort we would go through taking them. but I will bow to the council in this matter.
I agree with Patrokles. Going north is a bad idea. I suggest we go against Ptolemaioi and take Paraitonion. We need to secure our holdings in Egypt and this is a good way.
"The steppes... A vast area of nothing, where we can conquer nothing. We'll have to stretch our forces thin for this vast enterprise. As Patrokles already stated: the rewards are not worth the effort."
