Ok the problem is that the old HTW v2.1 Beta self-installer will go for this install path:C:\Program Files\Total War\MTW.
But when you have made a new and fresh install of MTW:VI v2.1 the default install path should be:C:\Program Files\Total War\Medieval - Total War
I have recently uploaded a new version ov HTW v2.1 Beta so the default install path is also:C:\Program Files\Total War\Medieval - Total War,of course when you have installed MTW:VI v2.1 somewhere else you still have to direct the installer to the correct path by hand.

I thought I had offered you this before, but I can't recall an answer from you. Anyway, I made a map a looong time ago for my Ancient mod and it worked for VI without any flaws. This might be a bit late, and it will require further modding before you're able to release H:TW... but at least I've offered it:

Sorry for a stupid question but its very simple - i just loaded HWK mod which is the best i ever heard and sow ( i bought VI yesterday to play it ) Infantry looks really great - hawever cavalery looks little odd. I cant see any ancient cavalery units - just normal Vikings cavalery with long medieval lances. Here on this forum i sow some screens showing really claassic cavalery - so my qestion is - my Current version of MOD has no classsic cavalery or have installed something wrong ?
Please help me , cos i dont know if my mod istallation is correct.

I do remember this map. At this time there is no way of using it BUT if you have the files needed for it you can use the my campaign files and with a little clever copy and paste make it work with the current version of HTW. I have a thread in the Alchemist lab that needs maps like this.
Some good news, I cracked the hotspot and flag thing in startpos files. There was a missing castle type entry, and I corrected the others. Yepee.

No Beta-test versions are not public we have a test team of around 30 testers who are working very hard at the moment and speed up the development,finding bugs and fine-tuning the game,we need some more time but as it goes now i think we can go public end of June.

Count zimoa, you asked me to email you regarding the proper writing of english for all your descriptions. I emailed you in which you replied with a link to the beta version of HTW. I have not signed up for beta testing, however if you wish I can assist as best I can and download the mod. I dont know if you got my return email stating this mistake so I am posting here now.
You don't have to test but if you want to have a go with the Loc\Eng files and look for language errors you need the latest files that is why i passsed on the link...

Just a question about a certain function in the game. I noticed in the last version 2.1, I noticed that when a unit of hoplites were engaged in combat that the entire unit would fight i.e the number of supporting ranks would be 6+, this is good for pikes Hoplites should only be 1-2 which = 2-3 ranks figthing/supporting ranks. Reiksmarshal, as you know the TW is a simulation. There were no units fighting like the Hoplitic phalanx in the Middle Ages so by doubling the number of supporting ranks we try to emulate the “othisis” the Phalanx performed. In this when the Hoplitic phalanx engaged the first 3 ranks would do the fighting but the rest of the unit would put there weight and push the forward ranks. Something like Tag-o-war but in the opposite direction. This had a profound effect on the enemy formations that fought in a loose fashion with no interdependency from the side or the rear ranks. The effect was that of a bulldozed rolling over enemy formations as it moved forward. The shields were used both defensively and offensively. Any enemy falling would be stepped over till someone would kill him using the 35Kg shield.
That is why all the hoplitic units have a double supporting ranks number.
Normal Hoplites – 6
Yficratian – 8
Sarissa – 10
I'm not a beta tester but could not resist trying your great mod in it's raw form :) One thing: it seems no valor is gained from buildings offering the bonus in their description. But probably it has been noted already.
Help with install
I am having problems installing HTW.
I copied my MTW(v2.01) directory to a new location and ran the HTW v2.1 Beta.exe
When the program is copying files, it pauses and throws an error:
campmap\Portraits\Hellenic\Catholic\assassin29.tga: This file contains invalid data.(error 21FC). You will have to run this utility again to completely install HTWv2.1 Beta.
I have run the installer several times with no new results. I looked in the above directory and the assassin files stop at 28. Is there something wrong with the installer?
I was really looking forward to playing HTW, it looks awesome. Any help would be appreciated.

I have another question - Im playing COmpaing on 2.1 version and neet some tips - haw to fight against persian Cavalery Archers ? Each of Persian army has maybe 1000- 2000 of them - my phalangs cant fight against them - cos they shooting and retreating ( and i cant catch them )- most of my casualties are from this archers .... using macedonians archers is not any solution - they have small range and are unarmed - what tactics to use against persians ? ( trully they army have similar tactics in 2.1 like a Mongol army ) PErsian Arechers have limitet number of arrows ? Cos i never seen they stoped to shoot during battle..
New version will brings solutions of this problem ( cos if they get elephants - i will have much bigger problem )

eeee, those heavy missile slingers in version 2.1 do wonders... just wondering if those were really supposed to be as deadly :) i mean: how much damage can a guy do with a stone? :)
on another note, 25 purchasing cost versus 125 upkeep cost. it seems, we want these guys to be dead at the end of the turn every time :) you can buy 5 new units for the cost of keeping one alive :)
i guess, the tactic with them is the following: use them until they run out of boulders (from their kill numbers, it seems that's what they are throwing) and then charge them at some enemy cavalry to save yourself 125 pesos ;)
[HWK] Kosciuszko if your in a defence situation countering the Persian Archers is easy. Simply keep your main hand-to-hand troops back in thier defence position (hopefully you have a decent hill) and when they bring out the archers bring forward your peltasts/rock throwers whatever missle troops you have fire back at them, they will eventually run out of ammo or they will back off and play a cat+mouse game. Just keep bringing out your missle troops to fight them. Dont let them suck your missle troops into thier main force. If your mian force is large enough they will never challenge in you in open battle. Once they run out of ammo they will either retreat or try some half-arsed attempt to fight you that usually ends with you killing half thier army while the rest flee.
Attacking is a little more difficult. But it's still the same idea, you want to fight thier missle troops with your missle troops and dont let them bring thier main force down on your missle troops. If your attacking a fort/castle then you will need a big army.
Always keep your flanks protected by quick hand-to-hand or horse units. Even peltasts/rock throwers can guard your flanks if your careful with them.

but look at it this wha. Slingers where peasents, soldiers fight as hoplites.
Forcing or what ever term is correct, some peaseants into service does not cost much, and there weapeons where rocks they could find in the earth....this is cheap..but eventually you need to feed them and such, if you wish to bring them with you on campaign or permanently ready for battle.
hope this gives some explanation...anyway it does not really matter anyhow.

Anyway, the mod is fantatic, and I'm really looking forward to the next release. Is it slated for roughly the end of June, or are is it still at the 'when its done phase'? Also, is it normal at the start of the game to have negative income? It seems to cost so much just to maintain the starting garrisons.

NOw im still playing my compaing and never have enaught money to have big army - and Persians looks have unlimited cash. Each batttle looks like that - one my army - about 500-600 and 3 their army ( cant even know haw many ) I will use ofcource this slingers ( before i was thinking that slingers are crap and better to use archers ) and maybe they will help me a little. Hawever Persian Horse Archers not only shooting - sometimes they charge on unarmed archers and slingers.
But i will try - Persians make me sick in this compaing and i will die or win with them.

PS : i have another question - HTW is good as mulitplayer game ? In my opinion this mod ( Hawever is really great ) is not so popular and hard to induce some regular MTW players to load HTW. But i hope so on this forum i will find some players which let me enjoy multiplayer HTW..

I am having trouble getting HTW working.
I have patched my install of VI to the latest patch off the totalwar.com website.
After install the game doesn't start. The loading screen comes up briefly and then nothing. Strangly enough I can still play the normal version of VI.
Any help would be appreciated.

ok thx flip, another question.... i tried 2.0 in multi.. however there was a bug in the low cost slinglers (if u bought up-grades the cost was ADDED to your total instead subtracted) thus allowing for unlimited cash if you wanted....Fixed?
hey all just like to say this mod kicks ass, gives new mean to the word epic, just a few things tho will the Macedonian pike phalanxes be in version 3 you know the ones that are like hoplites but with the longer spears and attack like pikeman where you can have 4-6 rows attacking at once. and another thing there a special unit am not sure which one it is but when you try and select it you ctd to the desktop and get an error saying no portrait available?

TigerVX, Purple was some kind of royal color for the Persians. The immortals used this color along with yellow and some orange. So we thought it would be best to use it.
1dread1lahll, we know of this bug. The problem is that we don’t know what is causing it. The bug appears in all very low cost units like slingers and archers.

This mod is really looking great, except one problem I have. The hoplites are way too cartoony - they stand out like sore thumbs in most of the screenshots. That said, everything else looks great (love the new horsies). Can't wait to play this mod.

ok after beta testing this for 2 weeks (evil grin) I must say I am totally involved in my petty macedonian kingdom Talk about epic battles This game throws you into massive fate deciding battles within 4-10 years of start Goddamn Illirians attacked me with 6000 men before I even had a decent army built up Thank god for greek superiority in quality of men. Slowly but surely I beat the illirians back and finally smashed them tonight. But now the Thracians are knocking on my door. All this while I have to pray the Thessalonians dont attack my soft underbelly. And this is just the first 20 years My first king hasnt even died yet I feel like im truely struggling to keep my race alive in this ancient period. Man this mod is kick ASS Definately gets the King Azzole award of excellence. Once they get the names right and a few other gliches HOOWAH
