Re: Out of character thread XIX
Rear Guard deployment will work a little bit differently than the Advance Guard deployment. The Overall Commander can provide deployment locations, but they can be overridden by Rear Guard commanders. In addition, only Rear Guard commanders may set up their forces, with no input coming from the OCs aside from the simplest of orders.
Naturally, Rear Guard armies may only deploy behind the Advance Guard forces. No lining up on the sides or in front!
Feedback PMs going out now.
-edit- All feedback sent. I did not send any to members of the Rear Guard or to reinforcements that will not be arriving Turn 2.

I hope both of your strategies are a bit more biting than these pathetic excuses for taunts you've been throwing at each other. :laugh4:

I wasn't the one that came out 'all aggressive' and then dropped my pants and ran back behind the front line!!
Look over at the other bloke for that little effort. *grin*

Well, it wasn't Peter's first choice, obviously, but cooler heads prevailed. Momentarily.

I wouldn't get so comfortable in that manskirt over there, Arnold. Peter'll be back.

Manskirt!! I look just bloody fabulous in a manskirt thank you very much!!
So how about you get out of that "pink blouse" over there, push out the way your wife or which ever other woman is running the show over there, and get into some action.

Re: Out of character thread XIX
Just a heads-up, Rear Guardsmen, if I don't get your deployment PMs then you won't be able to deploy until the next turn. I'm sure nobody else in your army wants that.

Re: Out of character thread XIX
All right, I'm back and will now implement orders. Check back in an hour or three.
This one should be fun.

Cowardly Imperials. Running away from a few crossbow bolts...

Re: Out of character thread XIX
Ah, nuts. I forgot to specify which division was closest to its general in the feedback PMs. You should be able to have a good idea of which one it is from the maps. Plan accordingly - this next turn will probably be important.

Jesus christ! I leave for a few months and the whole game falls apart!!!!!

Huzzah, PK's here! Just in time for the carnage and the constitutional convention.

PK!!!
My word...what timing. Good to see you back.
The mechanics of the next game will need your keen debating skills to hammer out.
This should end with a lot of blood and guts on the floor.

Stick around. We'll be discussing the next incarnation of the game after the battle is over and your input (and participation in the next game) would be welcome. Plus, that'll be the time we post all the Illuminati skulduggery.

Aww... I knew there was a reason I wanted to check back in on things. Thanks guys for the kind words. *blush*
Anyways, I had some time to kill at work yesterday so I figured I'd log in and see what's up. I'm no where near caught up but it looks like a lot has happened.
I'm not "back" per se`. Things are crazy at school. We had a major school shooting back in February (yes I go to "that" school), so things have been insane around town. Plus I'm working on my Master's essay. (it's basically a thesis but without the cool name)
I have a problem. (well I have a few but I digress) With regards to hobbys, I either go "all in" or not at all. Moderation is a stranger to me. As much fun as it is to play with you guys, it took a lot of time. My grades slipped and my gf said she missed me so at the beginning of this year, priorities had to be re-worked. Throw in a bit of throne room drama and I saw it was time to take a break. (that and you could argue the whole throne room needed a break from me. :beam: )
So, good luck on the civil war. It's nice to see the fruition of something I worked hard to start. I'll drop in from time to time to see how things are going. If my time frees up (meaning I drop out of grad-school or become single), I'll think about re-joining. In the meantime, game on! :2thumbsup:
P.S. Jan was an imperialist before it was cool to be an imperialist... :beam:

Re: Out of character thread XIX
very unlucky about which school you are at...as always life takes priority over games :)
oh and I'm not sure Jan would be an imperialist if the Kaiser was a von Kastilien :P

I'd argue that Jan was the "first" true imperialist. I saw him as even being more Imperialist than the Emperor himself. (Of course that is just my point of view. The guys who have played Kaiser's during Jan's life might disagree) I saw the Kaisers (especially Elberhard) as being quite accomadationist and compromising. Though I can't blame them since they had an empire to run. Jan could afford to be an uncompromising hard-corp imperialist and I stuck to it no matter how unpopular the position got. (I remember the fun Diet session when Siegfried was in Constantinople. Talk about being lonely in a crowd...) I add the caveat that I am not talking about Heinrich, Henry or Jobst because I wasn't around for them. Well, I was around for Jobst but he died right after I joined.
As for the von Kastiliens, I think the one thing Jan and the von Kastiliens could agree on was finding Siegfried's killer. Jan hated the order with a passion of a thousand suns and definitely suspected Lothar as the culprit. Jan would be dead of old age by now even if Bern had gone differently, but I guarentee he'd be an Imperialist.

Re: Out of character thread XIX
PK...can you now see how your run in with Arnold shaped things from the Illuminati side of things??!!
You where dealing with the head of the order in a very rough and tumble fashion.
You're name came up A LOT :2thumbsup:
It will be a great read once we've finished here.
And just a thought...can't you ration yourself just for my sake...say 1 hour per week on the game...surely that's possible, please?
You know Econ's fading a little right now...so we need some "umpf" occasionally.

What's funny is, until yesterday, I didn't know Arnold was the leader. I always assumed it was Lothar. I've tried to do a little catching up and what I've learned has certainly put my time in this game into a new perspective. I had no idea that Jan had really thrown a rock at such a large hornet nest. No wonder he had such an "exciting" time in Diet sessions. :beam:
It also helps explained why Siegfried made Jan King to begin with. (I never knew IC or OOC). Maybe Ituralde can confirm this one day when he comes back but it seems that Jan was made King to balance out the Order. It seems Siegfried wanted to use the Order but still maintain some measure of control. This is just speculation but it makes some PM's I have received make more sense.
As for my (or Jan's) name coming up, I guess it means I was doing something right. ;) I can't wait to read the "Tales of the Illuminati". I have a lot of suspicions that I want confirmed.
As for rationing, that's like asking me to play M2TW for "only" 1 hour at a time. It doesn't work well. Like I said, I tend to live my hobbies or drop them. I appreciate your kind words though. :D
I didn't know Econ had pulled back. Makes sense though, with the game getting larger, it ate up a lot of time. And he played a character that was very much in the thick of all the politicking. Hope he can run another game someday when he rests up though. He's a good GM.
As for "umph", I suspect we can use a little less of the "umph" I provided. It tended to bring about as much OOC drama as IC drama. :laugh4:

Re: Out of character thread XIX
I remember some of that drama! :clown:
Hello PK. I can relate to that all or nothing problem. As KOTR and some of the hotseats come to an end I'm going to try to cut back on my time here. If I can't do that, I may be taking a break myself.

I think some of that drama will be hard to forget. It was large, involved, emotional... and hopefully never to be repeated again. :sweatdrop:
*Warning* weighty thought-piece ahead!
As for time restraints, that's the catch with PBM's (both succession and hotseats). It is "technically" possible to play these games by just logging in once a day and downloading the file you need to play. But, if you do that, you can't really influence the actual political direction of the game. (meaning, you might be playing the game but your CA's aren't getting passed or your faction is about to get blitzed). These games are run and controlled by those who are online the most. It's all about personal politics which is all about personal interaction. Now once your avatar/faction has power, you might be able to scale back a little bit because people will be coming to you. But if your clawing your way up the political ladder/faction ranking then you need to be online and writing PM's almost constantly.
At least that's my experience. Maybe some people can have fun just logging in and fighting a battle or playing a hotseat turn, but that isn't me. I want to be in the thick of it. (though I wish it took a little bit less physical and emotional toll) Since I don't have fun just "dabbling" in a game, and I don't have the time or energy right now to be in the "thick of it", I took a break.
I guess my point is Zim is that these things can take a lot out of someone and I sympathize with your need/desire for a break.
