The 1st Lydian has fought the best defense it could against a huge Epeiros Army.

After falling back to a better place of defense, General Ankyrikos had no place to run now. The 1st Lydian had to fight. Under the command of Eudamos Prochtheios, an Epirote army more than twice the size of the 1st Lydian formed up to attack.

Using the natural cover to break up any cavalry and blind missile units, General Ankyrikos set up a spear wall covered by his own missile units from the rear.

Panaitolos shouted command from the rear watching as his brave men attempted to hold off the massing and overpowering enemy army.

Then, Panaitolos saw Eudamos and his bodyguard riding round the 1st Lydians left flank. Panaitolos took his foe head on but, eventually, most of his bodyguard was cut down by Thracian Spearmen.

Breaking the siege of Memphis
256 - Clear Victory

As soon as we started showing signs of movement, the enemy, a Ptolemaios nobleman, ordered retreat. Apparently they changed ideas and stood ground. In their confusion of retreating and holding position. My bodyguards and Alexandros' bodyguards slaughtered them.

The 1st Syrian army has fought and won a battle south of Memphis. The enemy general, Sospatros Salaminios, was killed by Alexandros' own bodyguard.

Spring 254
The 1st Syrian Army has engaged hostile forces east of Memphis, near the Red Sea.
It was a ragtag group of soldiers, hardly fit to be called an army. Even so, Alexandros does not take kindly to intruders in imperial territory. After brief skirmishing, the enemy were crushed. There were no survivors.

Attack on Alexandreia
Heroic Victory

Alexandreia was attacked by Ptolemy and Satrap Aratos Syriakes took the command of the defense himself. They were destroyed on the stone walls and on the fields of Alexandreia, never even touching the stone roads of the city.

This was Kleonemos' big chance. He wanted to prove himself as a capable Strategos and worthy warrior. He led his forces against his enemy and got easy victory. Looked like his enemy was led by old women or beardless youths!

The sally of Gabai:

“Time for the fun part!” Hyllos said expectantly, his gaze focused out at the mass of Phalavan men scurrying just outside of Gabai’s walls. “Though I am disappointed, the men are hardly better equipped than children! What idiots.”
“Just mount up and lets get the men into position, I want as few dead as possible. Let this be a warning to the Persians, they can’t win against us.” Patrokles swung up into the saddle, his personal retinue bedecked in their heavy armor.
The 1st Babylonian lined up in a large line behind the abandoned siege weapons, the Archers forming a second line behind that, running out of arrows after assaulting the rebels with missiles. Still the Persian defenders held their line, though many died from the barrage.
Patrokles sighed “well, if they wont come to us then I guess we must force them to. Cataracts! Form up , aim for the enemy center!” the heavily armored horsemen charged towards the enemy line, hitting it and bending it in before withdrawing back behind their own lines

The Persians ran after the fleeing horsemen, their commander and mounted men hitting the line before any of the other troops were near, BIG mistake, they were butchered by the Seleucid Phalangtites. Their commander was killed in the furious fighting, and the horsemen flung back.

Arrows whistled in on the Seleucids and Patrokles cursed “where the hell did those archers come from!, come on boys were taking them out!” he charged the Persian archers, His lance crushing through the unarmored men, his sword arm pumped crushing the enemy soldiers. Hyllos stood at his side, parrying blows and slashing any men that came to close. The archers ran, hurling aside their companions to run from the cataracts.

Some of the more disciplined Persians tried to flank the Seleucid line, but were repulsed by a charge from Epikrates Tabaiou Persikou sent them running, and men all along the Persian line fell back in disarray.

Two clear victories and one Ptolemaic family member killed... not a bad job for Hierax's first military engagement.

The outcome was: Clear Victory for our side.
Hierax Syriakos- Men Deployed: 1563, Men Remaining: 1506. A few brave men died, but it was not in vain, for the Ptolemaic Strategos Paramonos Philopator was killed, slain by Hierax himself.

Now, only a handful of men is what stands between the Royal Army and Petra.

The Fall of Petra

The new day dawns upon Hierax's third battle. This time, however, he is more than confident that victory will be his. The only question is how glorious it will be. He dons his ornate helmet, shoulders his shield and raising his sword high, orders the troops to assemble and meet the charging Ptolemaic armies.

He outnumbers his foe, which is always a good thing, but numbers alone confer no advantage. With cunning use of his fine cavalry, himself charging the enemy lines where fighting was fiercest, and with the experienced Caucasian archers and, of course, the finest soldiers in all the civilised world, the king's Argyraspides, Hierax routs the entire enemy army, slaughtering every last one.

Victorious, he follows the last of the routing enemy to the gates of Petra itself. The city is his.

Clear Victory

the siege of Karmana has now commenced. (now the phalavans are down to just the good troops so this should be intresting.)

The death of Persia:
The Persians lined the wide open roads of the village of Karmana. they has ran, and ran, and ran from the Seleucids but now their was no where to run to. They stood shoulder to should, side by side in their last and finest hour.
The battle raged for five hours, but eventually even the Persians determination could not stand up against the overwhelming numbers of the Babylonians. The Persians did not, could not flee, and died where they stood, the last of their kind. The last Persians...... men who died for they’re beliefs, no matter how flawed they were. This account is not here to say that the Persians were right, only to say that they deserved respect.
Patrokles looked up from his writing, staring out over the carrion soaked town of Karmana, and sighed. he watched as the town folks were brought from their homes and was surprised to see such a tiny crowd, where was everyone else? he thought. he walked over to a officer
"are your men not through rounding up the town folk yet?"
".... sir, this is all the town folk."
"what..... where is everyone else?" he looked over to one of the children and asked again "boy, where is all the other people of your village?"
The boy cocked his head and pointed to the huge funeral pyres burning just outside of town "they are all there sir." he said matter a factly.
Patrokles shoulders lowered and he walked back to his tent, taking back up his journal and scratching in a few more lines.
….. When I set out on this campaign I expected everything to be simple, I tries to assume that we were right and the Persians were wrong….. Perhaps life isn’t that simple. I have seen a village die for its beliefs, and yet I don’t know whether to cry or laugh.

Summer 249 BC Inside the Gate of Memphis
"MEN!" Cunobelinus rode his horse up and down the ranks of the men, in Open-Order, He was a hands on leader, Led by example, every man who'd ever fought under him knew this, and knew his face. They would always know him. "There lies hardly an attacking force outside these walls. All your commitment is not needed! These fools could die by my own hand alone! BUT! It would be poor manners to let you men watch and not get a stab at this battle. I grow weary of these fools outside our walls... Masquerading as an army, when they are just a bunch of thugs and thieves raiding honest merchants and farmers. Let's kick this schoolyard bullies in the teeth, shall we?!!" "HAAAAAAAAAROOOOOOOOOOOO!" Came the reply
Cunobelinus nodded to the gatesmen. He turned round and pointed his sword at the 2 Phalanx's"CLOSE ORDER! MARCH! 4 COLUMNS! DEPLOY OUTSIDE THE WALLS IN STANDARD FORMATION!" He spurred his horse on and out of the gates, the rest of his cavalry trailing behind, trying to keep up. He pushed left forcing the Ptolemies to wheel to their right, exposing their left flank. Not noticing the Phalanx deploying to the right. By the time they reacted the Phalanx was in position, spears couched and they were marching forward. The Horn blew and The Cavalry charged forward, gutting the entire couple of ranks in the front, they pulled back and repeated this charge 3 times till the Phalanx was in range. Now Cunobelinus and his men were caught in the melee, but there was no need for alarm, his men were Experts, They'd fought from Lydia to Alexandria, this rabble of men were no match... "Achaikos! Link up with the Right Flank and get them to flank around and we'll squish them with out Cavalry!" The Phalanx did well, pushing the enemy into an L shape. Not 20 minutes later they broke and fled, but the cavalry caught up with the majority and butchered them.
"Casualties?"
"Minimum... less than 150 men... Which is good because we've killed about 500-600 of them!"
"Good work... We'll have to have a celebration of some kind! Send word to Aratos in Alexandriea! I want he and his family to dine in our Halls!"
"Of course, sir! We'll send a messenger right away!"

OOC : For those of you who are wondering... i take the number of men multiply it by 5 and get my number so the number of men i had was 2540 and they attacked with 915.

The Battle for Memphis

"BROTHERS! Today we stand on the gates of oblivion! The fate of The Satrapy could be in our hands! The fate of our families and our friends are in our hands! Our King sends us no aid! Though be not disheartened by this! He has not knowingly signed away our lives! He knows we do not need his help today! We are men enough!!! The foolish Egyptian King sends his heir, too cowardly to fight me himself... Is he afraid of the same fate as the Pontic King? He has sealed his heir's fate! Whoever fells him will join my personal guard and entourage... And we shall have a night on the town with the finest whores!!"

As usual Cunobelinus rode right up front, first out the gates. Phalanx deployed infront, Pantodapoi on the left flank, Akonistai in the rear and himself on the right. Once the Phalanx engaged Onasas Larnakios' spearmen, Cunobelinus rode round the right and goded the foolish prince. He followed. Right back around the flanks and to the rear of our Phalanx. Cunobelinus signalled the trap and the Akonistai rushed towards him, his cavalry going through the gaps, leading the Prince into them. Now fixed, the Prince was flanked by our General and he charged the rear. On the horn was the signal for the Pantodapoi to flank around the left and engage the phalanx from the rear.

Hacking his way through the Prince's guard Cunobelinus found the Akonistai Captain.
"CAPTAIN! GATHER WHAT MEN YOU CAN AND FLANK AROUND THE LEFT AND HELP OUR SPEARMEN IN THE REAR! GOO!"
"SIR!"
Giving his unit's withdraw call the majority of the Akonistai fell out and regrouped 40 metres or so away. Cunobelinus' men kept the Prince's Guard busy, while the flank happened.

Achaikos fighting alongside Cunobelinus spotted the Prince in the thick of the battle
"Dheartháir! The Prince is over there!" Cried Achaikos.
Cunobelinus followed Achaikos towards the Royal Egyptian. Achaikos crossed blades with him, slid them round in a upwards circliar motion, and with that chopped the man's head clean off.

Shortly after the rout began, we pursued them for several hundred metres. But then abandoned it once we'd killed the majority... We'd won... If it had not been for Cunobelinus' daring trick we'd have surly lost.
"Initial Casualty report!"
"200 men sir... We've butchered at least 2000 of them... This is an act of the Gods sir!"

OOC : This is actually how the battle happened. I swooped my cavalry around since i numbered 31 at the start of the battle and his cavalry numbered about 40 or so, so they came after me, i went back behind my lines, and engaged them while the skirmishers set up, then charged them forward, and withdrew my cavalry through them, back around and sandwiched the prince behind our line. Their Phalanx then moved forward into our line, and that pretty much gutted their front line soldiers between both our spears. Then my pantodapoi moved round with the akonistai and we finished them off with a coup-de-grace. Once their general fell they took off.

The 1st Syrian has assaulted the Ptolemaic town of Pselkis. The enemy were completely destroyed and the population expelled. The enemy general died upon our mighty phalanx during a desperate charge.

Cunobelinus marched to Alexandreia. He called the army to parade, and spoke to them. "Men! When war comes we do not have a choice. We fight. We fight for our reasons that are our own, be it for glory, or self-defence. But you fight. Today is different. I come to this army with a proposition! This time you will have a choice. Be a man, or be a coward! Your general, my close friend and brother is indisposed. He is unable to lead you against the remaining ptolemaic forces. But I have come to do such a thing. I do not expect your unwavering support. You've never fought under me, so I can understand this. However you must have heard of me. And that alone should give you confidence. What loot you find is yours! If you find none, I will personally see to it you are compensated for your hard work. Any man that does not wish to finish off the enemy go back to your barracks. We do not need you...Several of the elite units and phalanxes fell out of formation and marched to the barracks. The rest of you! We will march tomorrow. When you fall out, go to your captain, and make sure you sign up. Thankyou... God speed!"

The core of the 1st Syrian marched through the desert to the town of Hibis. Thanks to clever maneuvering on the part of Alexandros, the garrison was lured out to fight in a pitched battle. Unfortunately, once their defeat was assured some managed to escape back to the town. But a victory has been won, and now the town is under siege.

In the Western Desert

"Well... There they are... Waiting. You going to go take a look?!"

"WE'RE WITH YOU CUNOBELINUS!!!!!" sounded the army.

Cunobelinus was renewed with a feeling of power and invincibility. He ordered his army to form up outside. The sound of horns, thundering feet and hooves, and the sweat from the heat stirred memories in his mind. He wiped the dripping sweat off his forehead, and fixed his turban. He'd not worn one since just after Jerusalem. He liked it. He'd worn it well into the war with Pontus, but by the time he took Sinope (and his hero's epic of a duel with the King) he'd retired it to his backpack. This was one of the unsual things about Cunobelinus. He was not like other generals, and especially not like other governors of the Arche. He never had a large baggage train, he felt it was demanding and a disadvantage. Rations were all that were carried with the army. Personal items, his included were strictly regulated to only what you could carry. Dispite his wealth he always kept the straight and narrow, and never spent more than he needed. Frugal and a Luddite he preferred the simple to the complex. This was his advantage in war. He would need this for the coming fight. The army was led by a now more than capable Pharaoh.

The Phalanx lined up... The Hypastai that followed him illegally formed up on the left, the Thorikai on the right. Cunobelinus lead the cavalry out and gutted the ptolemaic skirmishers, and withdrew to behind his line. They then marched forward and met the Ptolmaic Phalanx. He flanked with his spearmen, whom were held totally on the left by the Hypastai. But the right side faltered a little, and Cunobelinus sensed the possibility of a collapse, He rushed around and threw himself into the fray. Blood was everywhere, He cut down man after man, pushing his way through the battle, the right flank had gone from defined lines, to an unruly deathmatch, it was everyman for himself, and even Cunobelinus became separated.

"TO THE GENERAL" Achiakos cried, but in vain, the Celtic cavalrymen were occupied with the battle and were now useless to make any sort of manoeuvre. Achiakos went himself, but took a javlin to the chest. He was thrown from his horse in a violent manner and nearly killed by another blow from a club to the head. Cunobelinus was there in short manner, running short circles around Achiakos, He blew his horn and the other Celts moved in like wolves for the kill, cutting their way through the thick of the battle.

Another horn blew and Cunobelinus didnt recognize it. Instinctually he turned around looking for a thundering cavalry charge, but all he could see was man, horse, and dust meeting in a exuberant clash of metal, wood, and blood. He gulped and then was hit by what felt like a boulder smashing into his gut. It was a lance! His mail was defeated but the muscle plate under it was still good. but now he was on the ground. He coughed up what he assumed to be blood, and removed the cloth covering his face. It draped down on his shoulder as he got up. He was dazed, his horse was still alive, and he was stamping on the heads of those trying to subdue him. Cunobelinus chuckled inside, but that chuckle turned to despair when he turned and saw his best friend lying on the ground, not moving. His head turned to hatred, and he pushed his friend's memory out of his head. He picked up his sword and smashed an Ethiopian's head in with his shield. His face was now covered in blood and bits of brain, he now turned his attention to a dismounted cavalryman, grabbed his sword arm and bit his ear off, and cut into his leg. He spat the detatched ear his next target. It hit the boy in the face and he shuddered, he tried to raise his axe to defend, but it was already too late, Cunobelinus' sword was already on its way to his neck.

Cunobelinus cut a path towards his horse, and remounted he looked back at his friend, and then out infront, and caught a glimpse of the Pharaoh, whom sounded a rally horn for his bodyguard.
"FUCKING COWARD! HE'S RUNNING AWAY AND THE BATTLE ISN'T EVEN WON OR LOST!
Cunobelinus looked back at his friend, then back at the King.. He was torn, Follow the enemy? or help my dead friend... He looked back at his still friend, and then once more back at the King, and back at his friend... Achiakos twitched. That was enough to convince Cunobelinus, he rode straight for Achiakos, cutting another path back where he came from. He jumped off his horse, and stood his ground cutting down any foe who challenged him. It stayed this way till the end.

There was no resounding victory call when he won... There was nothing to even tell Cunbobelinus the fighting stopped. When all he could see was friends he turned around and tended to his friend. The javlin had penetrated his armour but thankfully it slowed it and it had not done fatal damage to him. Cunobelinus gave him some water. It was like this all down the line. Not one man was gleeful, They all wandered around or tended to a dead or dying friend... Most were wounded or scarred emotionally at the least. The Hypasts were particularly angry. They came for glory, and every battle they'd fought was one of survival, not heroics and plunder. Cunobelinus was convinced they'd leave, if not the whole army. He considered turning around. Was the desert really worth it... Why was he here? He began to think he'd tricked himself, instead of looking for security to his city and friends, was he here for his own gains? He put that thought out of his mind, and picked up his friend, putting him face up on his horse and walked him back to the camp. He looked out to where he saw the King run to. He'd follow him... if it took him to the gates of Hercules, he'd follow him. He just hoped he had enough manpower to do so... Maybe it was time to send an appeal to the council for aid...

At the edge of a cliff. Their backs to the edge... The thundering of a marching army grows louder and louder with each passing moment. The grizzled General trots up and down the line with his friend Achiakos. He comes upon the guard of the Basileus.

"I appreciate your sacrifice. What you've done has put us both in the line of fire... But you all know that sometimes, you've got to break the rules to get things done. If we survive this, You all have a place to stay at my governor house at Memphis whenever you need it."

The captain walked up to Cunobelinus' horse
"General, I would march with you to the end of the Earth. You are the finest commander I've ever fought under. It is a shame we will part ways soon. I hope that Sarpedon does not blame you for the choice of me and my men... Stay strong, sir. We're with you all the way."

Cunobelinus gave the man a nod, and with that, Cunobelinus piped up for another speech

"SURVIVAL! THAT'S YOUR WATCH WORD TODAY! KNOW IT WELL! WE'VE GOT ONE CHANCE, ONE CHANCE ALONE! WE'RE OUT NUMBERED, BUT NOT OUT MANNED. WE'VE BROUGHT MORE SOLDIERS THEN THEY DID!"

"RABOOO!" The call from the various Celts over powered any other people's call...

The battle took ages, It was bloody and long. But Cunobelinus' Line held well. Eventually a falter apeared in the centre of the Ptolemaic line.
"HYPASTS! YOU ARE UP! GET THROUGH THERE! MAKE A HOLE FOR ME!"
"HELL YES!"
They churned through the weakened section like an Old English longbow through a French Nobleman. Cunobelinus sounded the horn and charged through the gap. The Ptolemaic King and heir charged forth surrounding the General. This time Achiakos and Cunobelinus did not get separated. Watching eachothers back then cut through the bodyguards of the Ptolemaic dynasty easily. Spotting the exquisite armour of a King, instinctually Cunobelinus make a B line for him. They never crossed blades. Cunobelinus smashed his shield into the face of the King, and he was killed instantly. Achiakos trailing close behind saved Cunobelinus from a lucky cavalryman making a swing at his back. Trailing left in the thick of the engagement the Heir spotted Cunobelinus, and made his way towards them. Their bout lasted a good 30 minutes.
I know him... Cadyren!!! I knew it was you.. So you had a son after all... hmmm I wish this was different. So much we have do discuss boy... Had only Cadyren stayed inside Galatia...
The final pass proved to be epic. Sparks exploded from the blades as the Galatian boy tried to kick Cunobelinus off his horse. Cunobelinus slid his blade down to the hilt of the boy's sword and spun it out of his hand, then sliced open the back of the boy's neck. He fell off his horse into a heap. consumed by the dust, sand and blood. Eventually the Cavalry were defeated and Cunobelinus lead countless charges upon the rear of the Ptolemaic line. Brutally butchering their Phalanx. In the end the dead of Ptolemy could have piled higher then the lighthouse at Alexandriea.

I didnt screenshot the 2nd victory when i engaged the remainder of the 2nd army. It was a clear victory and I auto resolved. The Hypasts were inside the town at that point. So I did not gain BP with them. Only the Heroic victory (which is famous too)

The 1st Syrian has won a minor skirmish against a small band of Ptolemaic soldiers. They were all slain with only four friendly casualties.
