Yeah, that 70 gb hard drive space looks too much.
But then again M&B Bannerlord needs 60gb available space so perhaps it's not that much for a game with updated graphics.
70GB for Rome TW Remastered? This is... a bit baffling. The original Rome TW fit on 2 CDs, so less than 2 GB, how come this is 70?
One of the streamers who got early access said that even though the store page says 70gb, he didn't see it take up that much space so I guess we will see what the actual size is soon enough.
Its probably a temp space requirement:
Download big compressed file
Decompress & copy out needed files into game folder setup
Delete big compressed file
But also, consider that they've got all new HD textures:
Edit: that came out too similar to a post on TWC :shame:
When you double the dimensions of a texture you *4 the number of pixels so all else equal *4 file size.
So, this is hilarious:

(...and no doubt will be fixed.)
Still no videos with zoomed units appearance or graphic comparisons of theirs.
I am curious how they look because I've already observed that some look worse like for example Principes and Foederati. I am really interested how did they make up the Western Roman Cavalry from Barbarian Invasion. I've seen only Sarmatian Auxilia and they look pretty the same (and it's ok because they were always fine).
This guy did some zooming in his video, but I havent really seen a side by side comparison yet. From the let's plays Ive seen almost all of them zoom in on the units for a bit but they dont stay zoomed in because if you are playing through a campaign and only have a set amount of time to go through it, doing close-ups on everything seems kind of a waste of time tbh.
I got interested enough to dig out my DVD drive & RTW CDs, fresh new RTW/BI install in place: Getting the base game to work in Win10 is a bit of a doozy :inquisitive:
Fortunately still have certain files tucked away somewhere...
Then a bit of TWC trawling to figure out how to get RTR going -> RTR PE 1.9 up & running. Glorious.
On the down side I'd forgotten that it only has 4:3 resolutions.
A new video to remind everyone why R2TW sucked:

The major battle markers are back and I am so glad to see them again.
Attachment 24720
Were they not in Three Kingdoms? Don't know about the other newer games tho.
Anyway,I was pretty sure the heroic battle markers are in the Remastered. They even left the 'Show city on battlemap' in the game.
I didnt play 3K so I dont know, but they werent there for Rome 2 which was hugely disappointing.
Also regarding AI, we should all temper expectations because its basically still the original AI, to the surprise of nobody:

It's a nice to see old orgahs here! So looking forward to this but also would love medieval remake. The original...
Has anyone tried this authentic vanilla mod? Seem to have made more improvement to RTW than the remastered..

I must say remastered campaign map is a dissapointment simply because of the childish bright colour, feels like an action game instead of a stratergy game
There are currently no info on new unit balance..
There is a slider so those of us who like normal colours can crank it down.
Can see it very briefly at 12s in this vid

"...one of the most moddable games."
I was about to post the same link! :laugh4:
Honestly the potential mods for this has me more excited than anything else.
Also this guy put up a bunch of the new faction intros, if you can get past his kinda annoying commentary:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=07NeV5hRv0Y
Here are the rest of them that was uploaded last week, but the uploader stressed that some are not complete so take these with a grain of salt.
The intros for the new factions that didnt have them in the original R1 seem good, and I think I prefer the new intro for Carthage since the whole "crying of the children" thing was off-putting as I remember. This one is much more grounded. Also interested to see which audio for the Scipii intro will be used since the ones in both videos I linked to are different. The one other thing I will say is that I wish that the updated intros were more of a shot for shot remake of the original intros and not reimaginings.
While making the game super moddable is a nice touch and definitely welcome... someone still has to do all of that effort to create the mod and implement it.
Any major overhauls will probably take another year if teams are committed to it.
I think it also remains to be seen how much is portable right away from Rome 1 to the remaster. Like while I am sure that the unit models will have to be redone, I would think that some elements like stats and descriptions could probably be copied over pretty easily. But of course I could also be very wrong about all that.
