The oldest clan with a little break and still retaining alot of original members is Fear
I can explain my mention of Rage and do not want to be just seeming to throw propaganda here in support of Monsta's thugs..... at no time has there ever been a period when no Rage has been present for more than maybe a week on a server.
No disrespect to Kenchi but our very own Tera did slip over the NoFear for a while (12 months plus?) and a Kenchi was as rare as rocking horse sh*t.
The highly respected Fear Clan also become something of an Emu in Poland.
I would gladly buy each and every clan member that I have met a drink (especially the early ones) because even in 'bad' times it has been fun....
Demon was a bad apple but he was original and an element that we needed to spice up the times....alas we gained another 100 demon wannabes and mainly pale shadows of thee demon. He p*ssed people off but he had a certain class....and when you know a snake will bite..your not as shocked when they do.....
The best times I think we/I ever had was during the first (2nd after walkout start!) campaign....it did get rather heated in central Japan but I wouldnt have missed it for the world...
Imagine this......'army seen over the hill....RageMonsta and RageDevil rush to defend their little bridge....they see NoFear army marching towards them...this was expected...but whats this...an Elite army from the west!!!...Monsta had sent message of peace to this kingdom...oh how the worm has turned....but thats not all..our hearts sank as from the east comes...Fear......3v1 with about 600 koku per enemy more....but we had a bridge and we never go out without a fight.
About an hour and a bit later we had taken 2 enemy generals....but alas our Monk producing region was lost.
This was our first week in campaign...we stabbed each other in the back so many times we looked liked teabags...if the talks on MSN between Monsta and Tera were available...they would carry a health warning.
Monsta promised revenge..and each clan who joined against Rage on that first day payed us back double what they had taken.
And newer players wonder why we miss the 'old' days....you should have been there...we were warriors....we all had honour (ahem well) and we had fun.
Respect to the old guard may the newer guys experience the same when their times comes.[/QUOTE]
Good remembrances. And err, Monsta, you're wrong on one piece of history. While I was in NoFear, Satake and co. returned and re-made Kenchi after ONLY 3 months of inactivity http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/tongue.gif In fact they did participate in the first campaign but refused to participate in the next (remember the lapdogs issue? http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/wink.gif)
Anyhow, to add to the list, the consistently strongest clan must be Wolves.
Moving back to your topic, we INDEED hate fun, the talks about the circle, the alliances, the backstabbing, the losses, the victories, the bridges ( http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/tongue.gif), plans...
I see much more of that coming up for Medieval.
P.S.
Praises to ELITES for being consistent too. Very much so...
well ive kept out of this discussion for as long as i can stand it. if kenchi is the oldest clan and they were not active for 3 months, then how can anyone say my clan is dead. in fearfulways we have no rules, ive never enforced a "must play in uniform" rule. there have been fears playing since the game was a few weeks old with no breaks. We are nowhere as large as we were but neither are any of the other clans. well... medieval is here and so is fear.

Some say your clan is dead because we didn't see a Fear for months lately - and the one we've seen didn't play with clan name. All clans have a downtone anyway, long or short depends...
I'm happy to see one of the old legend clans resurructed - GL!

First up.... S! Darth! Longtime no see http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/smile.gif
Second.....Kenchikuka was never dead or inactive thanks to three people:-
Satake
DarthGuru
Daimon Minagawa
They kept "Kenchi" alive ....they may not have been online all the time but they were ever present looking for people to recruit.
As long as a clan has members who keep visiting their clan site keep in touch and play when they can.... then in my book its not inactive.
Thanks to people like Tera + Darkswords + Ninjakilla + Rath + BarryNoDachi etc etc we are still able to talk of Kenchikuka in the present tense and no doubt far into the future tense (getting misty eyed).
Thirdly...S! Cape! http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/smile.gif I remember NCbeach + DragonOfEchigo having a few encounters before the days when we joined our clans!
GL for the future and hope to see you on the Medieval fields http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/smile.gif

Kenchikuka + Kampfgruppe Wiking
WOW, is that Kage?!?! How are you old friend? I hope all is well. It's been quite awhile since I've seen you.
BTW, on Kage's note, Kenchi never really went inactive. The time everyone speaks of when the clan seemed dead was because there were only three members (This is when Kenchi had some internal problems and everyone left, including Magyar and Tera). Out of those three, only Satake and I were active. Those were rough times for our clan, but we survived and rebuilt the clan(Kage was one of our first recruits and was pivotal in our rebuilding stages). Anyways theres some Kenchi history for you all. Again, good luck and see you all soon.
Aye, and now we're all back http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/smile.gif

ive always said kenchi was the oldest.... i did some reserch and the daimyo name was registered #79 ... www.totalwar.ea-europe.com/Players/PlayerDetails.asp?PlayerID=79
i dont think it gets much older than that..
on second note.. i was there during this so called break in kenchi... i didnt see some of the members you claimed played but you did leave out one of the main kenchi players who kept the clan alive....KenchiCat. An exelecent general as well as honorable player in every aspect.
in order to help settle this discussion on whos oldest... here are a few more clan daimyo player id's
Fear - 17448
Takiyama - 20746
Shades - 27332
Rage - 27813
Ronin Warlords - 27818
Doragon - 29890

Hello NC, been a long time http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/smile.gif . Anyways the time you are speaking of is the recruitment time after our depression or so-called dead time. Cat was recruited soon after Kagetora, and yes he was important to our survival as was Kage, Kiku and others in our rebuilding. Kenchikuka before the revival did not require it's players to wear a tag or uniform therefore some of our players may have gone unnoticed. But during the dead time, only Satake and I were active in the clan. Daimon was active only in the forum, and Leoknite (the first to be recruited a little before Kage was not counted because he had a busted comp) was also only active in the forums.
But the oldest clan of all time (active and inactive) is/was Towashima right?
Didn't they disband before the game was even released??

Active..non active..half active..old...oldest
I think what is important is that we are here still...and we are quite nice geezers on the whole..as Monsta has said before we are the 'backbone' of on-line play....btw Demon Khans are still going.....cos I still have my name and pass word http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/tongue.gif .
Hey that's neat - I never noticed that number before.

Well, I think the #79 clears the oldest still alive 'thingy' once and for all. What about the one with most battles? The one with most losses? The one with most wins? I would throw the dart at Fear or Wolves probably. Rage were never big fans of competitive games (except lucifer) and Kenchi didn't play much comps in the new era.
Towashima is indeed one of the first, Jun Tokugawa was one of them if I remember correctly.
But hey...who is here is here and who is dead ...let him be dead. The '2000' clans are to be considered the veteran clans of Total War...a month here and a month there won't make much of a difference, we were all newbies back at the time anyway http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/biggrin.gif

I never noticed that number thing before...heres and interesting one...
Demon Khans (spelt Kahns) 16458
wonder if the uniform still fits!
What is strange is the Kenchi number....were you called something else b4?
If i am doing this right..your number seems really high.
Heres a number that may shock if correct-
13332- snakepoisen...recognise any names from that clan! heheheheh...they seem old..you whipper snappers!
Some more research...
Chain = 18103
Chaos = 2384
Kenchikuka was called 'kenchikuka' first in the records, Shimazu Asaji daimyo.

i see.....and it also depends if we are taking clan i.d or player i.d ...i think..but interesting reading anyway.
Yes, the clan ID will always be smaller than the player ID because some player ID's are in the same clans. http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/smile.gif
Cape and I are taking the daimyo player ID of the clans. #79 is the number of Shimazu Asaji...example.

Ok so your the oldest formed to be alive today...as we already knew but monsta likes to see see Tera shout it alot http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/biggrin.gif
But think about this...which clan is oldest with the original/first creator of the clan name still active now?
In some ways if wanting to be a bit criticle of the system used to calculate 'oldest' and just for the sake of arguement...
Lets take those named b4.and who still exist today active.with at least 5 members.
Fear
Kenchi
Rage
Elite
and the other I am not sure qualify....Shades also not sure (5 members etc).
now take the orginal gaffer of these clans....who is still here....when did they leave.
Otherwise you need to take the present gaffer/boss/leader and calculate their age...
does this make sense?
I understand your system. But remember...Brazil won 5 World Cups but the team of 1930 isn't the same of 2002...but they still retain that title. Clans are like teams...they change...but they're still bound to continue the tradition...eg. Brazil...winning. You understand what I mean? It's called a 'legacy'...when we're speaking of 'oldest' we're speaking of 'history' which means 'past' that can't be altered by the 'present'
Of the 'old' Kenchi me, darth, satake still survive I think (Momo?) Rage (active bunch) got Monsta, Storm (more?), Wolves got Magyar, Koc (more?), Fear dunno...who else?
But hey you can't pretend that the 29th clan to be formed out of thousands would be still the same ... hehe. At least we retain some old members.
We're ignoring a clan though...TAKIYAMA...older than Rage/Wolves/Shades/Doragon, they probably got the largest proportion of original members and never faded away...

First off m8 it isnt my system...it was put forward as an idea to consider if 'oldest' meant first formed or longest serving.
Your point about Brazil is confusing...maybe we should look at it this way..
Buck Rogers oldest man in the future on planet earth...but he was frozen for thousands of years....does this count because he is only really in his 30's...and has only lived that long...therefore a clan that is 'sleeping' and then returns are they older or are they just a re-invention of the original?
Kenchi may well be the earliest who exist today to have 'signed on the dotted line' but is it not true that the real struggle of being in a clan comes with staying in one piece and not wandering off into other clans or having prolonged breaks?
How else can we see this....
A man starts a marathon..he runs 10 miles..then hops in a taxi....he jumps out at the 25 mile mark...he start at 0 miles and runs through to finish at 26 miles....he has completed the marathon but he only ran 10 miles!
I agree that Kenchi are the oldest as in signing up.....I would say Fear could be the longest to serve as a clan without a break...but
your point is right...
Takiyama may have been together the longest (as a unit.although they had a name change due to azzamains being 'naughty') and if they have had no change of 'leader' he is also the longest serving gaffer..otherwise its maybe me..hehehe.
Oh and Tera you forgot Krast.....from the Monsta/Storm list..Devil would play but has no PC in OZ but still posts at the forum....Exe also posts although serious illness restricts his play...Sword also posts but has no on line function where he lives (out in the wilderness of Sweden0..just a little update before you dig our grave m8...not that its likely in my life time... http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/biggrin.gif
as for comp wins...when done as an average Rage when playing comp were top 5 for most of the time and maybe the highest real clan (5 or more) during this time but I doubt we would have matched the fanatical wolves' comp gaming..i think Fear had an above average rating throughout the clan and if we look at the present Angles are ok but anything after MI/WE can be put into questio due to dodgy tactics of kill your own m8 for points (from the non old school anyway).
Like I said before the most important thing is we are still here..all of us (kinda)...and have shared good and bad times....many more in the future to us all.
Akai-ken would be even earlier tha Takiyama then...around the same age of Fears. On your point of 'who kept his original form the longest by having the most original members' is tricky...right now MI is played by maximum 10 on the fake server and the only clan alive is Takiyama (continuing their amazing longevity...the wonders of being 'pacific' eh Monster http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/smile.gif)
Anyway, continuing on your valid point...I think a clearer view can be seen when MTW is out and everyone gets it...old members are to come back ...we're expecting some sort of 'old clan revival'...our forums are getting filled with old members signing back.
Will Exe, Sword, Fury be back in full force with MTW? And what about the old Fears? I propose we'll see then...but I repeat...when time comes few will be looking at who is the oldest...the majority will bid on the strongest. Let's work on that http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/wink.gif

Exe will be back as soon as he is fit again...
Sword posted with us the other day and is trying to make plans to get connected .... there is some thing about dial up cons in Sweden..they are pay per minute and no cable is available for him in the 'sticks'.
Today Devil tells us he is going to practise in OZ and be back early next year to hurt a few folk on-line..
It seems we (us from the old days) will be back..lets hope that MTW lives up to the billing it has been given and a new era of TW begins.
So how many guys you got active at present Monsta? I dont think there are any of Clan Shades that aren't getting the game. I'm hoping we can get most of the clan on pretty soon after release date in the U.K, so that should be fun http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/smile.gif

Good to know Monsta.
Several old Kenchis coming back, but I'm a fan of not huge clans...we have no daimyo so we decide with democratic voting.
I even heard the Host of Chaos maybe be re-established...
