I disagree. I hate Pantera. They went from Glam Rock to the progenitor of all tough guy hardcore. Putting Slipknot and Pantera on the same tier seems right to me, as long this tier is below par.

The first, Doomed Dark Years, sounds a bit like the early Satyricon. It's amazing that three girls from Greece can create such a cold atmosphere. Though in comparison with the others, that one might get a bit boring after you heard it a few times.
The second, Rise from Within, goes in the same direction but has more variation. They developed their own style there.
The third, Quod Superior, sicut Inferior, is IMO their best one. Still cold, hard black metal, but with their own ideas and a bit experimentation.

By "early Satyricon", do you mean Nemesis Divina or Dark Medieval Times? I'm only asking for clarification on how folky it might be.

Hm...usually, I'm iffy about getting the later releases. As a general rule, earlier is better, but I'll take your advice and try to find Quod Superior, sicut Inferior.

On an unrelated note: Does it matter that they're women? I really hate it when women get attention in the metal scene for the sole point that they're women.

I meant like Dark Medieval Times. I know what you mean about earlier is better. It's often that way. Too many good bands have gone downhill because of "creative development". But in this case I like the latest release better. The older things are rougher, for sure, but less sophisticated. And the new ones still feel "cold".
Well, three of them are women, but they didn't get much media attention anyway. At least here. In my opinion, they are far underrated. To be honest, I decided to try them out because I read that they are an all female black metal band (which isn't true, the drummer is a man) and I wanted to know how they sound, but their first release convinced me entirely. The later CDs I got only because it's high quality stuff.

Arg. I found some today, but the BM elitist banned me. Man, I hate that. It sounds like it's worth some attention, though; I'll keep looking.

Speaking of metal and concerts, I'm going to a Paradise Lost concert in a week. This is something that I've waited for many years to do, though it would probably be more fun if I was able to do it all those years ago... ~:)

Nevertheless, has anybody been to one of their concerts lately? Do they still play the old material (as in pre-One second songs)?

Well, I saw them 2 weeks ago. They played a set of about 100 minutes. I tought it was a great concert. But if you're looking to hear a lot of old songs I think you'll be dissapointed. They played True Belief, As I Die and 2 songs from Draconian Times. But they played the new album almost completely (it is an album release tour after all), and it sounded great. Their latest album also is great IMO.
Oh, and be there on time, the support band Orphaned Land really rules, they have a very "special" sound. :charge:

Saw Tristania again last Friday at Leipzig and it was one the best shows I've ever seen. Though I haven't seen Nightwish live yet, but they're playing at Pukkelpop this summer so I'll make a comparison afterwards. ~:)
btw. Also saw Tanzwut live for the first time sunday in Leipzig, funny band, great show, superb atmosphere.

Well, 4 songs are better than nothing. ~;) I haven't heard their last album, or any of them after One Second, but finally seeing True Belief live would alone be worth it anyway.

Goin' to see Immolation and Skinless tonight, with local openers Deämon and Sordid. If any of you are interested, I highly recommended acquiring some Deämon if you can. It's delicious.

And a note for the English metalheads out there: Some guy apparently dug up some old Grind Corps (another band from my city) and pressed it to vinyl for a split with Anal Cavern, released only in Britain. Keep your eyes peeled for it, and if you would be so kind, buy me a second copy!

One of the best British metal acts at the moment imo are Sikth. Some of their tunes sych as Pussyfoot, Hold my finger and Such the fool are completely badass ~D
