Seriously guys, I don't want to sound all matriarchal but you should not even be considering training with weights at ages of 13 and 14. At your tender ages you should stick to calisthenics and leave the barbells until you are more mature, around 15 - 16 years old.
It is part of the growing up process with young men to want to build strength and the best approach when starting off is through exercises like push ups, chins and sit ups.
As for using isolation exercises, forget them, your body does not work this way. Compound exercises like bench press and squats use multiple muscle groups and are much better at building strength and size. Worth remembering is the fact that arms are used directly in the upper body exercises and so become easily overtrained. When using a good training routine there is no, or at least very little reason to train arms at all since they will be getting all the work they need from the other BIG exercises

Bad Spotter Ah_Dut.
That and I'm afraid of herniating my back the most, not that i'll drop the weight (my legs are already very strong).
My bad I guess...just most people I know seem to have real issues with dropping the weight...my mistake.Quote:

~ sorry bout that...I squat on a machine personally or get someone to give me the weight on my shoulders as I can;t actually lift my squatting weight :embarrased:
I agree with you to a certain extent. The only problem is the world of American football is really competitive. If I at 14, did not lift free weights before and after the football season, I would never survive my sophmore year.Quote:

I DO press ups and chin ups...but I do crunches instead of sit ups ~;)
I like the sound of that guy ~:) It's nice to know that your gymnasium has a competant instructor. Supervision is the key and you are getting sound adviceQuote:

I don't really do weights or running, but I swim a lot and play competitive waterpolo so I'd say I'm pretty fit.
Does anyone else swim much, or do people here only really do land training?
I swim a bit (once a week) but do more land training as it's easier (my school's swimming pool is 17m and I am never allowed in)Quote:

We do it as a physical fitness test for my work.Quote:

But, I'm very interested to find out if others have to do it, like what do you call it and why is it required of you?
ichi
You could call me the opposite of fit. While I've been doing moderate weightlifting and constant exercise bike riding, it has yet to overcome my incredible eating prowess. Beware my awesome hunger. Come nightfall, I will eat all of your tortilla chips and salsa. But before that, I'll empty your candy jars for you. I will eat skittles by the handful; a half-pound a night is nothing to me. Remember, I'm just getting started. After your candy, chips, and salsa are gone, I'll move on to the microwave popcorn. I'll burn it too, but that doesn't matter to me. When those are finished, I'll move on to the year-old bag of stale pretzel rods and take that off your hands. Now here comes the fun part, when it looks like all the snacks are gone. I will now move on to bread and cheese. Or possibly cold cereal. Finally, to conclude everything, I'll consume the half-bag of semi-sweet chocolate chips that's been lying around the cupboard since the last time cookies were made.
Well, that was long-winded. It takes some serious work to control my snacking. I'm making some progress. I figure if I start going to bed earlier, I won't turn into a vicious eating machine. Maybe I should've posted this in the weight loss thread...
We do it as an excercise in the rugby team to build fitness...it's jsut cruel, I amm quite happy I dropped out of the team now...No more 1 hour long sessions of shuttle runs ~DQuote:

Wait a minute, do we measure it from the top or the bottom? Makes a big difference in inches.
What's a bleep test? Is it the same as the beep test?
No not sarcasm, I actually have no idea
Curve?! Just how firmly have you been gripping it?
a. no im in my prime
b. not necessarily cannot say how it curves
c. the spots existence is questionable. ive had individuals enthusiastically announce the discovery and others say they dont know where it is (20 individual sample size)
d. if a curve was needed to reach one should go to the doctor for girth issues or stop spelunking in such large caves.
e. dont patronize
ot: these threads are silly we dont know each other in rl.
1.75 m / 72 kgs.
Love handles and a comparably thin layer of fat under the bellybutton. Frustrating as hell. Hopefully to be terminated through exercise as soon as I have the funds to.
21,
~6ft tall
~175 Lbs.
I'm not particularly fit or unfit. though I do need to exercise-to build up some stamina. problem is I am always busy when not here :(
I'm currently the worlds fattest person to have a four-pack. Must be due to raw deadlifting I guess.
183cm, 88kg. No aerobic fitness whatsoever, anaerobically reasonable.
