F.E.A.R review

I played and finished it about 6 months ago, on my computer which had to run everything quite low. When I got my new computer in November I got the game out again and played it and could run almost everything on high. The only thing I didn't like was the last level because

I thought it got rather silly with the millions of ghosts as they didn't seem to have much relevance to anything. And the last bit in the chopper frustrated me too because I was expecting a lot more after it, but it just ended.

Though I do believe it is a great game overall, I don't seem to get very affected by freaky games, movies sure, but not games for some reason. Even though I only played it at night I felt at least a little safer knowing I could blast anything that popped out at me. There were pleanty of times when I jumped, but I got over the initial fright and moved on. I find movies like the Grudge 2 a lot scarier, because they can set you up for a big fright much more than a video game can.

But thats just my opinion. :2thumbsup:

Vampire:Bloodlines was about the only game that was truly "scary" in parts that I've played (Hotel anyone?). A close runner-up would probably be SilentHill2. :2thumbsup:

I had to force myself to finish FEAR. It just wasnt scary enough, and it was just a standard FPS game. There are great games out there with some great scares (Silent Hill and Resident Evil, anyone?). But if you truely want a great game that will scare the bajeezus out of you, get a PS2 and get the Fatal Frame series (Project Zero to Europeans). Resident Evil and Silent Hill isnt all that scary because you have weapons we all are accustomed to, like shotguns, sidearms, rifles, etc. In Fatal Frame, you have no such weapons to defend yourself. You only have a camera.

As for FEAR, there was only one part in the game with a "jump out of your chair" scare, and that was in the office building with the stealth assassin jumping through the window. It was... disappointing, to say the least.

Heh, I don't understand how some of you people aren't so much affected by horror games. I mean, you're the one who's playing it in first-person mode, you're the main character and you have to do everything. A game (horror or not) can have a good way of immersing the player into it, more than a movie, for the simple reason you are the player (if properly presented of course).

Anyway, I've read good stuff about everywhere. I think I'll order it. I mean right now, then it should arrive tomorrow evening or so. Gonna be great :laugh4:
