Nope it's to say that another murderer is to thank because he learned the police enough to catch this murderer. ~;p
Pointless right?
Do you know something else that I've find pointless? It's to even consider that a country owns your country for fighting a war, because it was an earlier alliance, when the stuff happened for more than 200 years ago.
It's to say that that country owes you because that you got involved in the same wars as the first one, because of thier own reasons (in WW1 because the Germans sank everything to Britain, even US passanger ships and in WW2 because of some Japanese bombings, thus dragged into it) and then comment things that have very little with reality to do (in WW1 did Germany declare war on France, because France was an ally to Russia, the French relationship with Serbia had nothing to do with it, the Russian relationship with Serbia however... And the losses (AKA people killed) in both WW:s for the US was about 600k, not even close to a million).
Sure, others have done it to in this thread and I still find it as pointless, but this one was commenting material.

I find it compulsively necessary to add that France suffered the largest percentage of population loss, of all the countries involved in World War 1... so, technically, I think we owe them on this one, for not getting involved earlier. ~;p

Actually being the pedant that I am, the quote 'It's full of stars' is from 2010 which was dirested by Peter Hyams. Kubrick directed 2001.:hide:

If you believe it's impossible to have freedom of choice if you have justice and equal rights, you're left wing
If you believe it's impossible to have equal rights and justice if you have freedom of choice and you like war, you're right wing
If none of that applies, if you believe a combination of freedom, equal rights, justice and peace is the way to go, you're all wings at the same time, i.e. common sense ~:)

Well, I am about to watch 2001 anyway.

Just to keep the spam level high: I believe the "full of stars" line was in the Asimov book, but not in the film. Then they flogged it to death in 2010.

Dear o dear....Mr. Pedant is coming out to play again. Azimov although an excellent sci-fi authour was nothing to do with this story. 2001/10 comes from an Arthur C Clark short story in one of his anthologies, not Isaac Azimov. Dear o dear....~D
Quote:
"Behind every man now alive stand thirty ghosts, for that is the ratio by which the dead outnumber the living. Since the dawn of time, roughly a hundred billion human beings have walked the planet Earth.
--Now this is an interesting number, for by a curious coincidence there are approximately a hundred billion stars in our local universe, the Milky Way. So for every man who has ever lived, in this universe, there shines a star."

That's right... I wonder if they will ever make 2061 and 3001? The story is long from finished with 2010.

Well, officially both blocks want freedom, justice, equal rights and peace, don't they? ~D ~:joker:
Joking aside, the left right probably originates from the ancient Greek democracy, where conservatives sat to the right and those wanting renewal sat to the left. It's a quite old concept which IMO can't be applied well to modern politics, but despite that, modern politics is mostly built up around it... I think today both sides want almost the same things, but the main difference is the methods used to get there. The left wing has oddly lost the "freedom" part of "equalité fraternité liberté" lately, which means modern left wing is more of what I described jokingly above, than the last alternative I described above, but true socialism with it's original ideals, is also considered left besides including freedom, which is now considered not a part of the left wing, so you can be left wing if you're socialist, even though modern left wing in many countries unfortunately is more of what I described above and doesn't follow the bottom alternative, but uses the name socialists ~ This confusion is one of the reasons I dislike the ordering of politics into left and right wings in this manner, but I'd probably say I prefer left wing personally, although the party in my own country is hard for me to like. Btw, environmental concerns are not considered parts of either left or right wing with the left right model... ~:handball:

Bravo, France. You sold us a large chunk of land. You gave us a boost during the revolution. You also violated the very soveriegnty you helped to create not a decade after it had seen victory, got yourself into two World Wars (Hey, France didn't have to honor it's alliance with Serbia. In fact, why the hell would they? France wanted war just as much as Germany did.) that have cost the US easily in the neighborhood of a million lives, cost us more money than I am sure I will ever see in my lifetime, or would even be capable of spending in my lifetime if for some reason I had it all before me!
No, no my friend. When you put the chips down, France owes us. And big time.
I personally think you're wrong. Even though they gave little help they gave help none the less. America had promiced to help France with a conflict with Britain. When they were fighting Britain later America decided to stay neutral. Smart, but very dishonorable.
I'd have to say it's old news now and neither we nor them owe any one anything, but we should have really lived up to a promice.
My two cents...
