Re: Paeninsula Italica - Radices Imperii
Looking great. Your models somehow look more realistic than many mods', in the sense that the clothes and armour look like they're actually being used and aren't too ornate, with more subdued colours. Any plans to improve the battlefield ground textures and vegetation to match this more realistic look? It'd be the finishing touch, I think.

...yes, I would like to update the old models with the new features.
Thanks again.
Good news! :2thumbsup: I hope that wouldn't take too much time, though...
It would be great to see the release of the mod till the end of Summer. ~

Re: Paeninsula Italica - Radices Imperii

Then pardon for the interruption, Luciano B... :laugh4:
Thanks for the great news!!! Good luck with the completing of the beta!!! :2thumbsup:
P.S. When you have time, can you give the list of what will be included in the first beta, please?
-
Re: Paeninsula Italica - Radices Imperii
...you're welcome iglasukas:2thumbsup:
I don't know how many features we'll be albe to introduce in the first beta; however the full cultures/factions conversion is already done and also all the new models and skins for all factions are ready and will be surely present. Some mercenary and regional units need still to be completed, and probably the full range of that kind of units will be completed in a further future step.

...by now we didn't make any attempt in that direction ...maybe in the future, when the main features of the mod will be completed...
Thanks a lot to all, gentlemen, for the precious encouragements.

These things seem optional to me... But it would be nice if you include some mini-mods that are already done, such as realistic tree size mod and grass mod by Prometheus...
Anyway, beta version is beta version and all this stuff may wait till the final release I think. ~:)
And please, can you answer these questions:
1) You've made 2 Etruscan factions. Does this mean that they will be allied at the start of the campaign, in the same fashion the roman factions were allied in vanilla RTW? And will they hipothetically be able to begin war with each other?
2) Are you going to make Latin allies for SPQR? They played an important role in roman warfare during the IV and III centuries BC.
-
Re: Paeninsula Italica - Radices Imperii
...some answers:
1) The second Etruscan faction is intended to be "optional"; maybe in the beta version we'll exchange it with the "Sabelli" faction (representing the "Sabellic League" which included some tribes like the Marsi, Paeligni, Vestini, Marrucini and the Frentani); however we are planning some alternative campaigns, one of them with two or maybe more Etruscan factions allied from the start; since we are using the engine of BI and not of RTW they'll be free to attack each other and not forced to remain allied for a long time like in RTW.
2) It depends upon what you mean with "Latin allies"; if you mean the people living in the other cities of Latium and formerly part of the "Latin League", according to Livy during the "Roman - Latin war" of 340-338 BC they were organized in the same way of the Roman troops (hastati, principes and triarii) so they will not look different from Roman troops. If you mean instead the Italic allies with "Latin laws" (the Italic subdued communities forced into alliance with Rome) they'll be simply represented by the regional units which will be recruitable by the Roman player in a conquered province.

Re: Paeninsula Italica - Radices Imperii
The previews look great as usual btw. I'm loving the campaign map.

Re: Paeninsula Italica - Radices Imperii
Thanks for the answers, Luciano B :2thumbsup:
P.S. Since I began interesting in your mod, I've known a lot about the history of ancient Italy - thanks for this too! (Such knowledge is very precious for me, cause I'm a historian myself.)

Thanks a lot Myrddraal ...I would like to return to work on the map to enrich a bit the terrain features, maybe after the beta will be completed, since some lands still look a bit flat, some rivers run over the hills ...and similar little things that I would like to fix.

:2thumbsup: I'm really glad that what I posted resulted interesting to a professional historian.

Oh, I'm not a professional, actually... only have historical education

Re: Paeninsula Italica - Radices Imperii
Any news about the progress of the mod, Luciano B?
-
Re: Paeninsula Italica - Radices Imperii
...still working on assembling the whole thing. All seems to go in a smooth way.

Re: Paeninsula Italica - Radices Imperii
Glad to hear it! :laugh4:
Are you going to post any new merc minipreviews in the near future?

Re: Paeninsula Italica - Radices Imperii
But is there any hope to see the mod before the release of MTW 2?
-
Re: Paeninsula Italica - Radices Imperii
I'm holding my fists for your team (you) Luciano B! Can't wait to try it!:sweatdrop:
Can I try my knowledge of italian language a little? Luciano, di che citta sei tu? Io sono Sloveno e sono molto interesato a tuo mod. Penso che e il ultimo mod per noi historiani. He he. How did I do? Did I pass? :laugh4:
Hmmm, btw, will you also include Illirian tribe Histri located in Istria or just plane Illirians regardless of their tribe?
Histri were quite a pain in the ass for Romans. One whole legion was totally anihilted by them and when Romans finally managed to destroy them there was a great and longlasting triumph held in rome itself.

Hi Hister
...let me say that your Italian is good :2thumbsup: ...io sono di Terni, una città dell'Umbria, che si trova al centro della penisola.
...about the addition of further factions, sadly there is a limit of 20 hard-coded faction slots, which currenlty are all occuped. The only possible solution is to provide different campaigns with alternative faction arrangements ...maybe in the future, when once the "main" campaign will be finished. I agree with you that an alternative faction chosen among the Histri or the Liburnii may be a good and interesting addition.

Re: Paeninsula Italica - Radices Imperii
No rush Luciano, I've been waiting a few years for this mod so I can wait .. so can others .. :shame:
It doesn't matter if WTMII comes out first, hopefully more interest in Totalwar series and thus revived interest in mods.
I'm working on a class system using BI religions, when MTWII comes out I'll try to adapt it .. just like every other modder but it doesn't matter if mods are based on RTW / BI only. They're still great to play!! :laugh4:

Re: Paeninsula Italica - Radices Imperii
YOU KNOW WHAT I SAY TO YOUR MOD LUCIANO B???????
I SAY IT IS THE BEST MOD I HAVE EVER SEEN SINCE ROME: TOTAL REALISM
People like you make up the REAL meat of the Rome: Total War modding community..... I will ensure that I am one of the first to download your absolutely, near-perfect mod.
One question, I have a 256kb/s (actual dling speed 27kb/s) ADSL, which goes down to about 64kb/s (actual dling speed 7kb/s) after 500mb.
How big would the file be and how long do you think it would take?? Any approximate is appreciated.....
THANK YOU, YOU ARE A TRUE HERO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: Paeninsula Italica - Radices Imperii
...I need a bit of relax, so I stopped for a day to work on the coding and I worked on a new regional unit reproducing a light spearman of the "Siculi" (Sicels), available in the center and the eastern portion of Sicily.
The reference material for the Sicel warriors is very fragmentary. The archeological evidence suggests a mix of native and Greek items and features. The Chalcidian helmet comes from a Sikel tomb found at Adrano. Greaves and a leather belt with a bronze clasp covered with deocrated bronze plates were common among Sicel warriors. Some bronze statuettes depict belted spearmen with a short torso protection which ends just over the abdomen. The available sources report that the Sicels wore long wool tunics in ochre color, and used leather armour. The decorative motivs in use among the Sicels reflect the influence of the Greek art.
