The best part of the new ones is probably Ewan McGregor's acting - some of the most consistantly solid performances of the whole bunch, in my opinion, and worthy of Sir Alec Guinness.
Ep II was the lowpoint of the new ones, and while III wasn't bad, it is fairly open to criticism (the best being from Maddox on thebestpageintheuniverse.com). Ep I wasn't as bad as is made out to be despite Jar Jar - the Queen didn't get too much screen time and it wasn't like the annoying stuff in II & III. Plus Anankin is just a little kid and not the idiot from II & III.
Fun series, wish they would bring it back. Did you catch the movie? i liked it, it wasent the best, but i liked it.:2thumbsup:Quote:

Transformation from Republic into Empire seems to be borrowed from Roman history.
I did not give Grievious much thought. I think Lucas tends to put in some characters for the kids. Some of these work even for adults (Yoda), others don't (Jar-Jar, Ewoks, etc). It's like taking your kid to a Disney or Pixar movie - some of it is not for you. Maybe Grievious did not sell well with the kids in your cinema but my son thought he was the most interesting character. I doubt kids could root for the other "baddies" in III - a sulky child killer and an ugly-wuggly arch manipulator.Quote:

Okay, I'm REALLY going to settle this once and for all:
KHAAAAAAAAAN!!!
The single greatest, most side-splittingly hilarious case of overacting in acting history. Throw it into any serious moment and people will piss themselves laughing. Particularly when they are baked, but that goes without saying withStonedStar Trek.
Trek.
I'm no trekkie, but Lucas shot himself in the foot with the last 3 movies. Several times.

Hmm... I have 2 versions of Star Wars: Episode 1 Racer...Quote:

Grievious is total mismatch. Like Jar-Jar, Ewoks and similar "kidy" characters. Even Epizode VI showed small degradation, but it was suppotably. Much of my friends are core SW fans and they are disappointed with Lord Grievious and EIII. I only watch the old ones.Quote:

Anyway, SW > ST.
This is at least the third thread of this exact topic in the Frontroom in my own recent memory (ie: less than a year).
Not that it's a bad topic, but just I hate how I make huge long posts in the other thread and then they are not there in the new threads about the same thing that spring up. Perhaps the mods should sticky this thread in the Frontroom since it's a recurring topic.
In short, Star Trek is better if you want meat & potatoes; real substance to make you think. Star Wars is better if you want some TV dinners and exciting action (hand to hand fighting action is something that Trek never did well).
Overall, I strongly prefer Star Trek because of it's deeper issues that make you think.
