Vibius the Butcher

I had posted the following story in a thread I created quite a while ago.

He started his military career as a mere army captain in Sardis. I had just elminated the Egyptians. I wanted to go after Parthia, but I didn't want to jeopardize my alliance with Pontus as they were allied with Parthia. That would all change however, when Pontus would betray me. I had bribed Pergamum from the Greek Cities. One turn later Pontus beseiged it with a near full stack army. I had to respond with a near full stack from Sardis. In my way, however, was a Pontic 3-star general with a 1/3 stack army. And thus a great leader was born. After that battle, I got a chance to adopt a general being he was "man of the hour." Right away he had four stars at only 19. I immediatly made him my faction heir. A couple game years later, my faction leader died. At only 21 he became faction leader. Talk about lucky! In only a couple years from mere captain to faction leader. I used his army to conquer all of Asia Minor. I then pushed into Armenia and took them, and then finished off Parthia. Their most northern city had no family members so it turned rebel.I had started making Memphis a military training center as well as Antioch. Once I started building a whole new, advanced army I decided I wanted him to lead it. And so I had to take him all the way from Arsak to Memphis. That took quite a few years. I took him to Antioch and then sent his army by boat to Memphis. Once retrained I sent him to take back Africa from the Scipii. The Scipii had a very large army in Africa. They had many full stack armies. Well, having nearly 1,000,000 denari helps out with some of them. Having a top-knotch army with reinforcements helps with the rest. And there you have it. The beginings of a superb general in a nutshell - Antigonos the Conqueror.

A few years after that screenshot was taken, he sadly died (peacefully). As you can see in the screenshot, I had taken his retinues and transfered them in anticipation of his passing. Antigonos the Conqueror was my best general I could ever have.

Antigonos had a son. I didn't use him to his full potential as I would have liked, though. He was in Antioch where he lived with a bunch of other generals. He was in his 30's when I finally moved him. His name was Bucoli. He eventually became faction leader. I took him with a good army to finish off the Scipii in Africa and then on to Sicily. He eventually moved on to Italy where he took Rome. By the time he took Rome, he was known as Bucoli the Honest. After that he moved on to take a few Julii cities to the North. When he died he was known as Bucoli the Conqueror. Like father like son! :yes:

wow. two great generals. and by 171 bc, four factions remain. you should go all the wat, try to take the whole map. it should be for an exciting late game. if only you had those two generals remaining.

I thought about it. I am in a position to do so. It's surprising how little the map has changed since I took those pics. I have 49 settlements (48 in the last pic). The settlement I took since that last pic was Campus Alanni. I haven't played the game since. I think it was sometime back in September. It just got boring. The Brutii are very powerful with nearly 10 half to full stack armies just standing around Vicus Venedae. When I stopped playing I was training armies at an urgent pace out of Katais and Artaxarta to get ready to take on the Brutii. Maybe someday I will start the game again. My favorite thing to do is to play a campaign at the start when there are more factions around.

Yeah, I know what you mean, "The Conqueror" , my latest one is Melchior the Harsh (BI Sassanids), faction heir 5 star on Campaign map , 10+ on the field, Always exterminates (he's my Christian killer)

You guys must use single generals more than I do. I usually have all of my generals do their part, so I never get generals THAT good.

Mine was '' Nero Varus''. He's a 5 star general at the moment and has whipped out 3 factions. He started out as a early legionary cohort captin. I had him attack the egyption pharroh and then I adopted him. Since then he has been whipping out eastern factions.

I've had the victor, the butcher, etc. And now I have this one Sextus The Lewd as my current faction leader. Despite the name he's quite a good general, having just conquered the Italian peninsula.

I rarely have truely skilled generals from actual combat experience.I only use the general units if I think it will turn the tide of the battle.I like having generals to govern.My one general is really good.While he hasnt done any real fighting (chasing guys down) hes lead enough armies to victories so hes pretty awesome.

I just got this game the other day. My computer can finally handle Rome Total War! Woot.

Well I'm about 30 years into my first campaign as the Julii. My first leader is still alive and, well, he rocks. He has a 10 star command ranking and damn good traits. I want to get a picture made before he falls of his perch (75 years old and still kicking :2thumbsup:). How'd I take an in game shot? Print Screen button?

Yes, his print screen, then open paint and paste.

This is my ten star command and influence faction leader. What a guy, there is nobody in my faction worthy of replacing him. They're all drunkards. Notice how I've stripped most of his retinue due to his old age; if it was still attached, he may have 10 in each area!

either you press print screen and paste the image into paint or whateer program you have, or you can simply press print screen; a tga file will be created in your RomeTW folder, then you can convert the images from tga's to jpeg's using photoshop.

If you don't have photoshop, maybe Zamzar converter should work, though I didn't give it a try.

Thanks for that, I thought there'd be a folder for print screens somewhere.

When you take a screen, it is stored in a folder called Tgas in your RTW directory.
