Re: Sen. Larry Craig "looks at bums"
Well, first and foremost, liberal bias is a debatable point. Gripe at Dave for mixing arguments in a thread if you like, but dismissing it as fairy dust and the mantra of the 'vast right wing conspiracy' is a bit too partisan for my tastes.
Second, his point is a valid one. Yes the guy is a hypocrite. But the media is being quite hyporcitical on the issue as well. The only person I've seen address Dave's points in a valid fashion has been Ronin. Ronin's right, nothing juicier than a nice juicy gay sex scandal, especially from a guy that's gone out of his way to make life tough for gays.
Geez, Lemur, Goof... I expect better from you guys than "There is no liberal media bias, now shut up you buffoon". You can argue that there isn't, but I happen to agree with Dave on this point (I think the Big 3 networks and CNN are heavily biased to the Left) and frankly, your dismissal as tin-foil hat ranting is a bit offensive.

Wait, Craig voted to ban gays? Or was it for gay registration? Or is that not really a good comparison?
Sure, he's in serious denial of his apparent homosexual tendencies, but not voting for gay marriage or special hate crime laws doesn't make you anti-gay anymore than being opposed to racial quotas on school admissions makes you racist.

Banning gays/banning gay marriage = basically the same.

They can marry, no one bans any homosexual from getting married. So no, no one is taking away thier rights. Stop trying to derail the topic of the thread. That's my job.:whip:

Only in the Backroom.
Dave says that sodomy is a pillar of the philosophy of "liberals" (which group, I'm pretty sure he believes I and many other posters here belong to), and I reply with a comment about tinfoil hats, and I'm the one being offensive?
Gimme a break.
I'm out for a while.

Bah. Liberals are rightists. Socialism is the way ~;)
The US completely lacks perspective when it comes to what's right and what's left... Liberalism is centre-right to right. Republicans are extreme right. Social democracy is centre-left to left, while "generic socialism" is leftie and "revolutionary socialism" is(usually) extreme left...
The democrats are rightists, and the repubs are extreme rightists.
There, got it all sorted out
So, the "liberal media" belongs centre-right to right, they are not leftists. You may say that about the media in europe, however. The media in the US are absolutely NOT socialists/leftie, but they may or may not have a bias for the democrats, but would then be centre-right at best.

It was my experience then that the most vociferous opponents of homosexuals were closet ones themselves.
An interesting view , it certainly seems to have plenty of merit .
What with the rash of very vocal gay bashers getting caught out .
Sooooooo....

Still, I still find it hard to understand why you guys are so down on this guy when sodomy is one of the strong pillars the church of liberalism.
With your thing about gays is there some little secret you want to tell the world about Dave ?

Re: Sen. Larry Craig "looks at bums"
Good article about the actual Senate Code of Conduct, and how nothing Craig did is listed. My favorite part:
From the Senate's early days, long before the current language existed, there were instances where the senators felt they knew improper conduct when they saw it. According to the Senate's ethics manual:
-In 1797, Sen. William Blount of Tennessee was expelled for inciting Creek and Cherokee Native Americans against the government. He was not charged with a crime.
-In 1811, the Senate censured Sen. Timothy Pickering of Massachusetts for reading a confidential communication on the Senate floor, although there was no written rule prohibiting the conduct.
-In 1954, the Senate censured Sen. Joseph McCarthy of Wisconsin for behavior "contrary to senatorial traditions," after he refused to cooperate with committees investigating his anti-communist witch hunts.

Back on topic, while I personally don't think Senator Craig should be getting shoved out the door for his behavior, you compare his case and Rep. Mark Foley's treatments to say somebody like Mel Watt and you see one of the big differences between Republicans and Democrats.

Re: Sen. Larry Craig "looks at bums"
You people really need to read more savage love. The good Senator may not in fact be gay. He could to use some metaphors, play for both teams, work both sides of sexy street, AC/DC. In other words he might very well be bisexual. Yeah, yeah you don't believe in that. Well they are out there, men and women who like to bed both genders. Hell his wife may not be comepletely ignorant of it either. Quite a few women greatly enjoy watching their men get sodomized by another man. :inquisitive:

Well, Mrs. Corleone and I have an exclusivity policy that excludes members of the opposite sex, members of the same sex, members of the bovine family.... nothing is on the table. Works just fine for the two of us. If you find some lady love that's willing to let you play catcher for Brucey, more power to you.

mm, if he was bi I think he'd be content enough with his home life to not pickup men in bathrooms/get arrested/lose his job as senator.
-
Re: Sen. Larry Craig "looks at bums"
I've known two peeps who were seriously bisexual, and in both cases, they swore up and down that it was all about loving people instead of gender. So I'm not sure it makes any difference in the good Senator's case.
Besides, this sounds like the classic old-school scenario, closeted gay man strikes out at other homos, marries, has kids, gets it on the side in the stupidest, riskiest way possible. It's all very 1950s.
-
Re: Sen. Larry Craig "looks at bums"
Maybe. But there are more roads to the same results than a self loathing closet case.

You must realize that many people are of the opinion that while sex=great, sex+danger=mega greatness (lets do it right now). :whip: Craig may just love the thrill of indulging his little "pass time" in public places where he can get caught more than the actual "pass time" itself.

Like you say, works for you. Others might come to other arrangements that meet their needs. Like sleeping around on your spouse, with their expressed persmission.

hmm according to Wiki, he got married around the same time as the first allegations that he was gay come up.
Seems a bit perfect.

you know how American conservatives are always trying to lead the country back to the "good old values" of the 50s....when the women stayed home minding the kids....while the men cruised the nearest bathroom for gay sex on the down low...
:laugh4:
