I've noticed it's always the Greeks or Epierotes that end up forging a formidable empire, I've never had to deal with the black death.
Just be thankful you don't have African Pikemen breathing down your neck from the south lol. I've never been that good at dealing with elite phalanx without excellent missile units. :P
