Re: The Prometheus: Large Mafia Game (In Progress)
I have a growing feeling that this is not at all a classical mafia game.
Like Kung Fu mafia, I suspect we are up against something new.
We are not killing those we lynch, we just imprison them (someone could free them?).
There are no killings, but we know this agent has a mission to destroy us.
What I suspect is something along a game of hangman. We lynch a number of players and when we don't get it right, the agent gets another clue that will make him able to destroy our ship, killing all of us in one go.
It's a game of chance so to speak and we need to guess right.

Log2:
I slept in, this bed is great. When I woke up to take a trip to the bathroom I heard voices in the hallway. It was Andres talking behind my back about how he didn't trust me and would rather see me dead than alive...
Someone knocked on the door and said we all needed to give a name off someone we didn't trust, I had no clue what was going on but I just felt tired and wanted to go to bed. I put the name of the backstabbing Andres on a piece of paper and returned to my lovely, still warm, bed. I slept for the rest of the day.

I have taunted Mafia before, but this is just a new high (low?). Gentlemen, it seems that the Mafia here are too stupid to kill anyone. :laugh4::laugh4::laugh4:
I don't care what kind of plans they have, but the town is used to getting two people killed in standard games. 4 kills missed already! At the very least, kills should have been carried out for one of the two nights. I mean, I'm all for trying new things and experimenting, but let's not forget the purpose of the game. :beam:
Remember the long used (maybe long forgotten) maxim:
:stupido: Always trust in the stupidity of the Mafia
On the other hand, maybe they knew they would lose and are going for leniency. My lawyer says with this kinda of behavior, an insanity plea would be convincing.

Re: The Prometheus: Large Mafia Game (In Progress)
With no one dead, one can safely conclude with a very reasonable margin of error that this is not an example of roleblocking. If mafia were roleblocked, the blocker would say who they blocked and it would nail the mafia right away. The only other explanation I can think of is cults.
http://www.mafiascum.net/wiki/index.php?title=Cult
I think that the lack of kills could be due to the idea of mafia not killing, but forcibly converting townies to scum. I'm asking the veterans here if they've encountered anything like this before, and if in that circumstance it was not a cult. Please contribute to the discussion here.

Could be Reenk is the agent -- he's devious enough (and I for one am glad to have him back and playing).

I'd think the agent would be around offering gold to switch sides, or letters to join some crown. However that's just somethin from a book I came across along with that game board I talked about earlier , concerning some 18th century criminals in a wooden vessel who call themselves privateers.

The crew filed back together, excluding one member who was suspected of sleeping in his room.
“Will someone go get that lead-butt?” The captain demanded, but the crew shifted nervously – noone wanted to pop into his room unannounced.
“Fine, leave him. I see you have selected a person to be imprisoned. Glyphz, come forward.”
Glyphz protested that he meant to be more active in the hunt, but that he had been distracted. But he did not struggle, and was led into the cryo-chamber after a moment.
"One last thing, crew - make sure you make a correct count of the votes. Continued indiscretions will not be tolerated"
With that, the captain gave another warning to be vigilant, and the crew solemnly went back to their rooms for the night.

A tad petty? We all have busy lives, pizzaguy's is no different. You act like he's expected to count how many posts he made and post equal or better the next phase.
Take it this way as well, the behavior of the mafioso hasn;t changed, yet pizzaguy's has. That doesn;t seem to fit in my book.

If the mafia is not killing, it may be said we are digging ourselves into a hole if we're lynching people without significant evidence. If we lynch no one and the mafia continues to leave us alive, we may get closer to finding the guilty party without lynching the innocents on the way.
EDIT: Scratch that, it's a night phase isn't it? You and your food-voting confused me! My argument holds if the mafia continues not to kill.

Re: The Prometheus: Large Mafia Game (In Progress)
It was late at night, or at least the night according to the ship’s schedule. The cosmos passing by out the portholes did not change in accordance to the clocks.
One member of the crew woke from his sleep with an urge that he could not deny. Looking around him, he crept out of bed, taking care where he placed his feet as he made his way to the door. In the corridor, he moved quickly and silently, focused on his goal. Finally, he reached his destination, the bathroom, and sweet relief was his.
On the way back to his room Lord Winter suddenly heard noises behind him. He turned immediately, on full alert, to see the door swing shut. He turned again to look to where he was going and saw shadows step out of the dark. They moved into the light with a strange slowness, the light creeping up their bodies, though Lord Winter knew it must only be a second, and he could see they both had objects in their hands.
“What is this?!” he demanded.
The men stopped, and one spoke, “This is the salvation of our planet, terrorist!”
Lord Winter lunged at the closed door behind him, but it did not budge. The two men advanced upon him, raising their weapons. Lord Winter saw them and started to yell, but they were upon him in an instant. The result was a sickening crunch of metal on bone that left the floor wet with blood.
The man who spoke earlier rapped on the closed door, and it opened, letting the two bloodied men through, stepping over the body of Lord Winter. The door shut behind them, as another figure made good his escape from the scene in the opposite direction.
****************************************
The night after that was frenzied after the body of Lord Winter was found. Groups were organized to hunt for whoever was responsible, but none were successful. Men yelled and sprinted about the ship, bursting into rooms and throwing about anything that could be used to hide.
Finally, the excitement had died down and the Captain called another meeting of the crew.
“Friends, this is a difficult time. Whoever is working against us has ascended to a new level of evil. The supporters of the tyranny are willing to kill to hold the human race in thrall. But we will not give up, and I swear that we will return to earth successful if I must die to accomplish it. So go now and find the gopher-screwer that did this.”
The men were taken aback by the Captain's rare use of invective, and set about determinedly to find who had done this.

At least three of them. Let's free the men in the cryo-chamber. They must be innocent.
I am thinking a team of active and lurker players hiding amongst us and they have covered their tracks well.
Odd choice of target though. LW isthe number one lurker and I meant to vote him this round if there were no kills.

I think what happened is that we started out with one mafia. Instead of killing for two nights, he recruited two additional people. That's why we found two instances of literature in the engine room.

Re: The Prometheus: Large Mafia Game (In Progress)
So it seems that the Mafia have responded to my taunts of their ineptitude, if I could be so presumptuous and self-important. :shame: They are still stupid for letting two nights with no kills, and only causing minor confusion (by my standards of course :laugh4:).
However, I'm not sure I agree with attacking people for speculating on the nature of the Mafia. It may have been a valid tactic early on or before the game started, but now it's not, as the Mafia have obfuscated things (poorly, they are dumb Mafia, but still some) and gotten the crew talking.
Therefore, I do not believe that KukriKhan-sama or Chaotix27 or Yoyoma1910 should be imprisoned yet. I agree with Peasant Phill that the Mafia have clouded things up a bit, and would not be THAT stupid to give precise logistics of their operation. "Always trust in the stupidity of the Mafia" rings true, but the only Mafia to be stupid enough to blatantly incriminate himself was yours truly and even I did it in two separate games :laugh4:.

Sorry folks.
Andres, I understand why you'd ask this question, but I have been away from the computer for 2 days. I participate as much as I can while I am here at the house, but between spending time at my parent's house or spending time at my girlfriend's house... the choice is obvious.
I truly wish I had the time to do everything I want to do in my life... with college, a job, a girlfriend, and all the various things I do at the .org, it's just not possible to be online all the time anymore. I do try though.
If I happen to die while I am away, that's a shame, but we do what we can. And I will continue to participate postmortem. Give me a few minutes to catch up on the thread and check my emails.

EDIT: Scratch that, it's a night phase isn't it? You and your food-voting confused me! My argument holds if the mafia continues not to kill.
I entirely disagree. I am convinced that we are dealing with a cult. Mafia is converting townies behind our back, and will win the game covertly. We must continue to lynch. A town who doesn't lynch cannot win.
1. There seem to be no vigilantes, or else the vigilante is lying low. This doesn't prove or disprove the cult theory, but it does suggest town's only way of truly fighting back if there is one.
2. The mafia have yet to kill after a couple nights. It seems to me to be bad strategy unless they were incapable of killing on nights one and two. (two and three, including "night one")
3. The lack of killing of the lynchees tells me that they could become reactivated. If there was a cult, having additional townies makes sense. Someone might be able to release them from cryostasis.
I need more evidence, but unless there starts to be some deaths, I would conclude mafia is not mafia at all, but a cult which is snagging us from within. The consequences of such a thing are pretty bad, I think. Unless the cult is unable to convert followers or town is given some additional abilities, this ship could be doomed.
There is a bit of hope, however; if this is all true, the game would be unfairly weighted in the cult's favor. Town must have some saving tactic, or there must be some game-changing event.
It's also quite possible that I'm entirely wrong. I just do not suspect a typical mafia setup, and CR told us as much. This puzzle might be just a bit too complex to solve by the typical obvious clues.

Re: The Prometheus: Large Mafia Game (In Progress)
So far, the only attack we know to have succeeded was executed -- Sorry LW -- by two perps who called him a "terrorist," as they killed him, asserting it was the "planet's salvation" they sought to effect. These two were clearly working together.
The Two attackers knocked on the room door and then entered.
A third individual retreated from the scene, moving in an opposite direction.
Neither "bloodied" killer was found.
So, this could have been a "mafia" kill, OR a vigilante kill. The words used imply the former is more likely, but not distinctly enough to be certain. It could also be disinformation.
The writeup suggests to me that the room was opened FOR the killers by a third party. This is, of course, not conclusive.
The bloke going in the "opposite" direction is obviously another role player of some kind. The attacker's "control" who opened the door remotely (godfather), or someone working FOR the "town" but either unsuccessful (doctor) or successful (detective).
Odd thoughts...
WE cannot release the prisoners, but did we just create the attacker's two-person semi-zombie team through our votes? Seems unlikely, but CR is a creative fellow....
Dream well, Grey Pilgrim!

It's still possible there is a cult, but there might be something quite different about this one. My current (updated) theory is that the cult must recruit members, then it becomes a normal mafia once it reaches a certain size. If this is true, it would explain why all the clues fit.
However, I have the unfortunate habit of being wrong about certain details even when I'm on the right track. Feel free to offer more alternative theories.

Apologies, I wasn't trying to ignore it. I was both posting on this thread and talking to YLC at the time, and I did not see it.

Re: The Prometheus: Large Mafia Game (In Progress)
I think what we might have is a "Godfather and two goons type scenario."

This is also quite possible. I am actually not relying on evidence alone, but intuition. I feel based on what I know of CR's views on left-wingers, that it's very possible he developed a mafia game based on a satirical take on those views. The environmental wackos are a crazy militant group, trying to propagate their extremist viewpoint and forcing it onto others via brainwashing. That smacks of "cult"-type mafias to me. There's no reason to discount either theory at the moment.

Re: The Prometheus: Large Mafia Game (In Progress)
That is an excellent point. Dang pinko-commies. Now I'll never get to see through my 5 year plan.

Re: The Prometheus: Large Mafia Game (In Progress)
I may be going out on a limb here, but it's too tempting an idea not to mention:
What if those of us here at the .org who were left-wingers/progressives were the ones selected to be mafia? It would add an additional layer to the game, for sure. Those who are mafia aren't always random. I don't believe such a notion yet, but it would be a most interesting twist.
Thoughts?

It's a good thing I haven't started my quiz yet, or I might have missed this. Other than voting in round one, you've contributed nothing to the game.
Please be voting, with good reasons behind it, soon.

Re: The Prometheus: Large Mafia Game (In Progress)
Something strikes me about this Yoyo man guy. Kind of...like Ichigo in something called Fantasy Mafia...
Vote: Yoyoma1910
Back to getting a very drunk teenage girl to stop undressing herself. *sigh*

FOS: Pevergreen for posting such obviously distracting things, in order to interfere with town's investigation.
Also, why would you try to stop a 18+ teenager from undressing herself in the first place? Methinks you need a healthy dose of the babe thread so you can get your priorities straight.
:tongue2:

Re: The Prometheus: Large Mafia Game (In Progress)

Why? Because she was having major mood swings. And she's my ex girlfriend. So nothing I haven't seen before.

Interesting, though... the thought processes one uses. For one, if someone doesn't post enough, he's a lurker. If someone posts too much, he's suspiciously talkative. If someone posts just enough, he's trying to blend in. No matter what you do, it's always open to criticism. :laugh2: And yes, I do talk a lot. I apologize.

Like I said before, if people wish I could hide my thoughts in spoilers to keep the thread less cluttered.

Makes sense, and I was only kidding anyway.

The Captain looked up at the crowd that approached him with their votes.
"This is pathetic. Not just our ship but our entire future is at stake and people do not care to participate? If people continue to ignore the importance of this I will have no choice but to toss them out the air-lock.
Who have you chosen?"
Three men stepped forward and said 'Sigurd'. The Captain motioned him forward. Two men came to his side in case he attempted to escape, but he did not resist.
Sigurd did not speak, but only turned and looked at the crew silently.
Finally, he said, "Find those who did this."
He then went and lay in the cryo-chamber.
Another member of the crew turned the lock, and the freezing process began.
The Captain faced the crew again, and warned them to be vigilant in the night.

Re: The Prometheus: Large Mafia Game (In Progress)
Do we need to vote or is staying active enough to avoid getting thrown out of air-lock?

Re: The Prometheus: Large Mafia Game (In Progress)
You chose wrong in imprisoning me :mean: ...
Luckily I smuggled in a deep space communicator device. Ya know, one of those thingmes that allow someone to project thoughts into speech, writing or picture.
You only removed my ability to vote, not my so called "helpfulness" ...
You guys should have asked either Seamus or Kommodus what my norm is when playing town or what is my norm when playing mafia. :smartass2: They keep statisics for these things.

Voting is necessary. The Captain won't stand for namby-pamby waffling.

I maybe would have changed my vote but Phil and khann want me dead because they think I have been "too much under the radar..." :surrender: I am gonna get lynched by those guys...plus I blamed khann for the opening confusion as well....

Re: The Prometheus: Large Mafia Game (In Progress)
Gah. Was intending to actually vote. Been extremely busy lately. I won't miss the next one.
