Hey, did you just reveal a major plot twist? :quiet:
Answer 1. No i meant that i knew what it is you was talking about cuz i read in books bout Byzantium that said those near EXACT words of how the Byzantines thought of themselves until 1254.
As for too Greek or Italian, You are a Greek person are you not? If so you cant help sounding that way cuz it was how you were raised by your people and culture. (BTW i hope the Riots all over Greece right now aint affecting you too much.)
Answer 2. THANX!!!!!!! :beam::beam::beam:
Answer 3. Well it IS my fault for posting so damn much. But thats another matter entirely. Anyways i accept all peoples 2 cents as long as they aint being morons or just outright hateful. So thanx for your interest and i hope to continue to provide you with fun stuffs to read for a while yet.
Ok time difference:
My story 350AD- 450AD
Empress Zoe IRL life span 1042AD-1070AD
So unless i make my character immortal then no srry. As for magics, the Chirstians of my timeline believe magic to be demonic and evil and most have never even heard of it due to the cultural elimination of magicians by the "civilized" peoples. So sorry no go there either.
You say that as if it's the one thing that would make your story implausible. :laugh4:
I was thinking that the Huns would assassinate/slaughter the basileus, and she would take over. No time travel/magic involved.
@ desert: Well...... that thoughdid not even cross my mind till u said it. Hmm... it has poteintial. i may look into it. Thanx.:2thumbsup:
It's nice to know that my words have the ability to change the history of the world. :egypt:
Chapter Thirteen: Carnage at Rest
(From the Runic book:)
Spring 378AD
We have signed and sealed the treaty and even managed to get a few more signatures at the same time.
The Getia sent about five or so emmisaries to the meetings. Only one made it past the Hunnic patrols and demon guards. This man had the luck of the Gods. They agreed whole heartedly with us about the Hunnic threat. This probably had to do with the fact that the Huns have their lands utterly surrounded, the Iron Sky Mountains being the only thing that keeps the Huns from a butchers feast.
The Saxonz, surprisingly enough, also offered their help, even though I almost killed their emissary when he walked into the room. That is how shocked i was. apperently the Saxonz did NOT convert to Arianism like the other rebel tribes did. They still worship the High Gods. However they do NOT call themselves Germans. They dont even speak a recognisable form of German anymore. The Romans also have issues with them having taken the Britannian provinces away from them, even though the Romans had abandoned them long before the Saxonz invasion. It has taken awhile but they signed the treaty as well, for all that really separtes them from the Huns is a half-loung strip of water, not all that hard to cross en-masse.
It didnt take long for the Greek Princess to sign. Honestly i felt sorry for the poor girl. After what she had witnessed, im amazed she didnt go insane. But then again she managed to kill a Hunnic warrior at full charge, so she may be stronger than first glance will tell.
The Roman general signed it out of sheer nessecity. No issues there other than the Saxonz land rights.
A strange set of reports has come to our attention. The Huns have moved off of our borders. Mostly we are seeing their undead slaves in battle, for now at least. The best that our spies can get is that someone important amongst the Huns died. There may be a civil war amongst them. While many of our allies advocate attack at these reports, we know that it is nowhere NEAR that simple. For a Hun is powerful on foreign soil, but IMMORTAL out on the infinite steppes. You can march an army onto the steppes and not see ANYTHING for three years, only to be ambushed from plain sight after many of your men have starved to death or fallen to disease. They cannot be touched and will not come to battle if they can run while firing arrows at you. The reason we have not attacked them yet is because they are FAR weaker in the forests of Germania and its far easier to kill them when their arrows are useless and they cant run away from us. Here it is we whom have the advantage, because the swamps and trees slow the Hunnic horses into nice, BIG walking targets.
The meetings continue, soon we will be ready for the Huns again. And with them out of sorts for the moment, everyday is worth its weight in gold.
Chapter Fourteen: The Rise of the Brothers
(From the Greek book:)
Spring 380AD
DAMN THESE FILTHY HUNS!!!!!!! They have shattered the barbaroi to the north of the Balkans, have crossed the Danube river in force AND are now threatening Greek lands. Those Alemannoi filth are being oblierated as i write these words. My brother has called up all available forces to Constantinopolis and is having the southern Balkan passes that lead into Hellas fortified. However the area north of Constantinopolis is a flat and open land, perfect for the Hunnic invaders. My brother is taking almost all of our available armed forces to this area to fortify it. My cousin has been left in charge of the city defenses, but all we have here is militia. I can only pray that my brother is able to defeat these monsters, and maybe even save those foolish Alemannoi, for while they are foul barbaroi, they make useful shields for true Greeks against the steppes.
We have also recieved disturbing reports from our spies within the Alemannoi. The Slave soldiers the Huns bring along with them have becomed far more crazed and bloodthristy. There are even reports of outright blood-drinking amongst them after battles. Also they, as well as the Huns, have started chanting two words during the battles, "Hellmaw" and "Bledda". We do not know what these mean at this point. However hearing these has frightened me to no end.
However, I must go now and perform important functions.
(From the Runic book:)
Spring 380AD
We are at war once again. The time of the Huns' "indecision" has passed for we now fight many warbands of their slave soldiers. We have reports of the main body of this Hunnic Hordu beyond our reach is in Poland. This means that they are trying to clear us out of our forests with the slaves so they do not lose anymore of their trueblood soldiers. These beasts will never learn, will they?
However we have also recieved bizarre reports from the frontlines, and i have heard and seen this myself. The slaves soldiers have become FAR more crazed and have begun chanting two things, "Scourge" and "Attila". The first reference, we think, is a chant to frighten us. As for the second, i honestly do not know who or WHAT an "Attila" is.
There will be battle again soon so i must go and prepare.
OK i need ur help guys in getting a scrolling error in EVERY battle i fight. The camera wont stop scroll either forwards or backwards, depends on teh battle. whats going on?
Chapter Fifteen:The Skies Ablaze (Part One)
(From the Greek book:)
Spring 381AD
I look at the sky with terror as i write this. THE SUN IS GONE!!!!! The skies have turned dark red and black. Noone can tell if it is night or day. The priests know not what is causing this at all. This is not a good sign for the Arche, or for that matter from all God-Fearing peoples anywhere. Many good Greeks are scared out of their minds at this turn of events. This has cuased rebellions and chaos all over the Arche. The troops that are available are being use to full effect against these rebel filth. However plague has also started turning up within many settlements and villages.
My brother reports the final defeat of the Alemannoi, as well as MASSIVE Hunnic forces on the amassing. These are not just slaves either. These are pureblooded Huns. They chant the word "Bledda" as they march to battle. We have agents looking into what this "Bledda" is.
Battle will be soon to come to us. I can only hope that the army is ready. All of the changes we have made after the disaster at Adrianopolis, all of the money and time spend refitting so MANY horsemen. If this has had any benefits, we will soon see it against the Huns.
(From the Runic book:)
Spring 381AD
Evil is upon us. I awoke this morning to see the sky ablaze with pain and rage. The seers have determined that a force of purest evil has come unto our world. They point to the steppes as the origin point. This cannot be good. I fear the Huns have summoned something into this world that should have stayed buried. But we have no time for that right now. The Huns are on the move once again. The slaves are tripling attacks all along the river. We now know who Attila is as well. He is apperently a high chieftan of the Huns, along with his brother, a man named Bledda. Attila is in charge of obilterating Western Europe, while Bledda is to crush the East. This may very well soon be thecase. We shall just have to see what happens i guess.
Chapter Fifteen:The Skies Ablaze (Part Two)
(From the Greek book:)
Summer 381AD
The whole damn world has gone insane. Plague is everywhere. Revolts have become incredibly widespread, not just in the Arche, but in the West as well. Crops refuse to grow almost worldwide. Reports of Demons and black magics are widespread. The dead rise from their graves, people are transformed into monsters by some plagues, soldiers riot, rebels destroy all before them, and we even have had reports of five mass suicides within the Arche's borders within the past four months. And all the while the skies grow darker and darker.
My brother is still fighting the advanced forces of the vast hordes of Huns to our north. As expected they have largely avoided the passes and are charging straight toward Konstantinopolis. The army is infront of them and ready for a full scale attack. My brother writes that many of the men are frightened by the occurences of late. Several of them have had to be executed to keep order. This is shameful, Greeks acting like fools and savages. Then again it isnt just us either. The whole world around us is having these problems. These Huns have created something, something evil, something that should NOT be here. Im frightened for my brothers saftey, he has to FIGHT these things. I pray everyday that God will see us through this, for there are DARK days ahead for us all.
Chapter Fifteen:The Skies Ablaze (Part Three)
(From the Greek book:)
((Tear stains dot these pages))
Summer 381AD
DAMN THE HUNS!!!!! DAMN THEM TO HELL!!!!!!!! We have just recieved word that my brother has been killed and much of the army destroyed. All that managed to get away was the Thessalian cavalry and the nobles that fought on that accursed field. Our scouts and survivors report the battle as such:
The Huns formed up in their usual manner, none at all.
https://i477.photobucket.com/albums/...1-47-41-16.jpg
My brother was trying out a newer formation, the cavalry on the wings and the infantry as the target in the center.
https://i477.photobucket.com/albums/...1-47-52-81.jpg
This has proven effective against other tribes and rebels since the destruction of the Romaioi army at Adrianopolis. However the Huns are simply NOT one of these rebel tribes or pitiful armies. i am forced to see that now.
As the battle began the Huns hurtled forward towards us. However the Thessailan cavalry also took the opportunity to attack their flank.
https://i477.photobucket.com/albums/...1-53-41-01.jpg
My brother cavalry attempted to do the same. However the Huns burst forth from the trees and attacked his bodyguards and the nobles with him.
https://i477.photobucket.com/albums/...1-54-33-23.jpg
The nobles were either killed or fled immedaitely. Some of the Thessalian cavalry went to my brothers aid. The infantry raced towards the Huns in an attempt to save the Basileus. However before they could get there my brother came under assult again.
https://i477.photobucket.com/albums/...1-55-15-39.jpg
In an attempt to escape those demons he turned and rode like a madman for the infantry. He didn't make it.
https://i477.photobucket.com/albums/...1-55-59-47.jpg
And so Basil Archias, Basileus of all Greece, Mirka Asia, Lord of Konstantinopolis, and servant of God himself, was pulled from his horse and torn into little bloody pieces.
Seeing this the Thessalians turned towards the center, determined to avenge their lord. However some Hunnic warriors spotted them and went after them. It didnt really end well for the Thessalians. When the remaining horsemen had fled the Huns went after the infantry. Their horse-archers surrounded the poor infantry. After they fired several times the main Hunnic body cavalry charged them. The infantry fought for almost ten minutes against these demons. However in the end it wasnt enough. A charge from the Hunnic horse-archers sealed their fate.
https://i477.photobucket.com/albums/...1-56-54-49.jpg
And so it ended, a near total defeat for the Arche Byzantiou.
https://i477.photobucket.com/albums/...1-57-07-59.jpg
There is chaos in the streets of Konstantinopolis now. It came with the survivors. It is simply frighteneing to see Greeks acting like barbaroi. My cousin, Anthimos, has arrived with what reinforcements he could get. The islands of the Agaion, Rhodos, Kyprus, and Krete are now nearly abandoned, and all of those troops are here in the poleis. He has declared a state of emergency for the Arche and is taking major step in bringing down the rebels and quarinting plauged areas. I have given him my personal household bodyguards to protect the poleis. I can only pray that God will have mercy on our souls, for we may soon be with him.
(From the Runic book:)
Winter 381AD
Things have fallen apart on the northern fronts of this war. The Huns began to realise that they may not be able to defeat Germania head-on, as is their usual tactic. So they decided to outflank us. We suffered a HUGE attack from their slave soldiers about five months ago. The sheer mass of this attack took all of our available reserves to fight off. As a result we did not see the Huns and several of their subject tribes rode into the mountain passes south of the forests of Germania and began to try and battle their way thourgh the Roman defenders. The Roman drove them back each time until they came across and unguarded pass into Gaul, which they promptly poured through. They wiped out a guard detatchment on one of the briges across the northern Rhone river.
https://i477.photobucket.com/albums/...2-01-05-85.jpg
When we learned of these events we turned all of our best men around to head for Gaul and stop the Huns, for the Romans have seffured several defeat at their hands in Gaul itself. However we had been delayed by several forces of undead and slave soldiers that had been left behind as sacrifices for our blades.
https://i477.photobucket.com/albums/...2-05-13-75.jpg
They are currently besieging a city called Chalons. As they have little experience with such things it is taking them a LONG time to figure out what works for them. As well as all of that many of the pureblooded Huns became bored and are now penetrating even farther into Gaul, merrily killing, raping and slaughtering as they go. We will be within Roman lands within a day, Gaul proper within a week. I can only hope it is enough. The Romans might be weak but they have supplied us with men and weapons that are CRUCIAL to our efforts. If we were to lose them, it would all be over. Not only for Germania but for the Greeks as well, for it is the Roman Empire that is paying for and keeping both of our states on their feet.
Chapter Sixteen: Konstantinopolis
(From the Greek book:)
Summer 381AD
The Huns have arrived. They came yesterday, late in the evening to try and catch the gates open. However we managd to close them in time and halt their advance dead in its tracks. They have begun to try and besiege the poleis. They are clearly inexperienced at such things, for the first tacticthat they tried was sending slave soldiers at the walls with simple rams and ladders. All that got them was a huge number of dead slaves. They look to be really stupmed to me. However if given enough time they may break through. However the defenses of Konstantinopolis are HUGE, intricate, and hard for even seasoned engineers to break down. All that i can say is that i pray that we can outlast the Huns. They are nomads, they need to hunt and steal to eat. However their evil magics may keep them well fed or simply not hungry at all. Meanwhile our poleis is a port, meaning we recieve food from other sources, like the Romaioi for instance. We also recieve reinforcements and news from the ships.
There has been an invasion of Gaul by Hunnic forces. The Huns apperently used black magics to trick their way past the barbaroi and invade the heartland of our greatest allies. This is NOT good news at all. For if the Romaioi fall we are totally cut off and will eventually starve to death. The barbaroi are assisting the Romaioi in every way possible, including providing them with their finest troops to repel or destroy the Huns. I can only hope for the latter.
Autumn 381AD
This is wrong. This is just WRONG!!!!! I mean what sort of creatures can do what these Huns are now doing. They ride outside the walls all day and night, baying like demons. Some of the one thatare capable of dark magics, are throwing fire, plague, and severed heads over the walls. They also preform sickening rituals of human sacrifice before the gates, what these are for we dont know. They tear pregnant women apart with demons that they summon. They eat the unborn children. They even feed people to their horses. I am on the walls now watching all of this as i write. It has been going on for about 2 months now. It seems to our observers that they are trying to do something and failing at it. I think they are just trying to intimidate us and get us to surrender. This CANNOT happen. Most of the people within the poleis know that all they will do is more of the same to us.
There is a more disturbing development that has been occuring in recent weeks. Several citizens have tried to open the gates. We captured one of them alive. What we learned from the raving lunatic was that the Huns are able to take control of people at random. There have also been incedences of plague breakouts far from the quarintine zones at the walls. It seems that these black arts are coming into play more and more. Much of the citizenry, including myself and my cousin have taken to wearing Holy Crosses at ALL times. This has subsided most of the strange occurences and black magic. However the fires and plagues continus to be launched at us. Parts of the outer poleis have either been quarintined or burned down.
This isnt right, these monsters are evil. The demons that they serve must be put down, God himself wills it. I just have no idea how to do so. Nor does anyone else that i know. I can only pray that the answer will come soon.
I see the AAR is going quite well. Good chapters as always.
What I don't understand is that in you last book both germans and romans used magic. Now only the Huns seem to - and only the evilest kind of magic:inquisitive:
Have you tried Invasio Barbarorum? Excellent mod for BI.
@HunGeneral In teh last act, i BARELY mentioned Roman magics, greek magics, ect. German magics are also CLEARLY defined as conservative and inflexible. Magic is a HARD, HARD thing to learn. The "civilized" peoples never really found a greater use for it than applying it to menial tasks. After all ive only described a handful of Roman magic scenes in all of act 1.
Once invention and Chrisitanity took off, magics were displaced.
As for the Germans, they still use the same magics that the White Lady did. They still use them the EXACT same way, to armor themselves and make their physical attacks more powerful or allow ranged seers to shoot fire at ppl. Runic magics are the most conservative form of magics on Earth in my timeline. It is hard to develop new ways of using them. There have also been no great magicians since the Lady's "freeze". Th only other applications for runic magics are non-combat, such as healing ppl, prediction, and cleansing the infected. As such there has been no ability to or incentive to change these magics over the past 300-400 years.
As for teh Huns. The Huns are....well evil in my timeline. IDK WHAT their intentions IRL were but i do know that Attila IRL call himself teh "Scourge of God" to intimidate his Christian foes. This applied to the Huns in general means that they use WHATEVER works for them, including demons and evil magics. Not only are such magics frighteneing to ALL potential rivals, but they WORK too. This is a double bonus to the Huns whom, after centuries of using them, have come to be like their demonic masters. So yes they use only the evilest kinds.
@gamegeek2 I have heard of it but i dont think that i could get INBV and EB on the same comp.
Chapter Seventeen: The End of the World (Part One)
(From the Runic book:)
Winter 381AD
As i write these words the armies of Rome and Germania are recovering from what i can only describe as utter hell on Earth. What has occured today, upon the fields of the village of Catalunia, can only be described as the forces of all of humanity fears, failings and foes arrayed against it. Evil that is unspeakable has occured here.
The day began bright and glorious, well as bright and glorious as a sky of fire will allow anyways. We saw the Huns and their slaves marching towards us at full speed. So we formed up into our predetermined positions, the High Kings forces were on the far left.
https://i477.photobucket.com/albums/...4-55-57-97.jpg
The Emperor of the Romans, a young man named Valentinan Thremoius, was in comand of the center. He had brought with him his Legio V and elements of the Legio IX.
https://i477.photobucket.com/albums/...4-56-20-96.jpg
His greatest general, a man named Flavius Aetius, held the right.
https://i477.photobucket.com/albums/...4-56-48-10.jpg
This general had brought with him a strange new invention. Everyone knows that Romans LOVE to use their artillery, especially those balistas they invented over 200 years ago. However the set up for said weapons is ponderous and ineffective against moblie cavalry armies, ike the Huns and their slaves steppe tribes. so in an attempt to bring the effective ness of said artillery to bear on the Huns horses, this general invented a carriage to put the balistas in, effectivly giving a moblie firing platform for these weapons.
https://i477.photobucket.com/albums/...4-56-59-77.jpg
I thought it a clever idea at that moment. Honestly it turned out to be a saving grace for the Romans, probably the only reason half of them are still alive.
Out front the Huns and their slave tribes formed up.
https://i477.photobucket.com/albums/...4-57-53-94.jpg
https://i477.photobucket.com/albums/...4-58-03-41.jpg
However we faced the slaves, the Romans took on the Huns. As it was the titanic Hunnic horde didnt all come onto the field. Only a part of it was deemed nessacery to wipe us out. Even so this morning there were almost 50000 warriors all told.
Both sides marched forward, Romans were marching as if they were fighting infantry, i quickly realised. But before i could send a runner to correct their mistake, i heard a scream of a million souls come from the ranks of the Huns. Then, to our front, it looked as if that many corpses rose from the earth. The bodies then turned to us and screamed rage, pain and chaos, as they hurtled into our lines.
https://i477.photobucket.com/albums/...4-59-47-70.jpg
These undead were ancient, as everyone know that Romans burn all of their dead. As such they were fragile, and were easily destroyed. However they kept coming, and then steppe slaves attacked our flanks. The slave's overseer also took the time to expose himself to the fires of battle.
https://i477.photobucket.com/albums/...5-00-05-71.jpg
All his bravery did was get him killed. As soon as he died, his army went berserk, attempting to do everything to stave off defeat. I saw one young, living man's eyes crying in fear and rage at the fact that he might lose his soul to these monsters as well as his freedom. At least i think that was what he was crying about. After a few minutes of this they started hurtling themselves at us in way that we could not avoid killing them. After a few minutes of this i realised something. They were trying to kill themselves, to escape their chains the only way they could. However a black explosion erupted from the rear of the slaves. Their commanding demon had died. Suddenly the undead dissolved and the living fled like lunatics.
https://i477.photobucket.com/albums/...5-02-28-67.jpg
We did not pursue them too far for we had to turn and help the Romans. They were quickly being overwhlemed by the Hunnic forces.
https://i477.photobucket.com/albums/...5-02-50-71.jpg
I was with the High King's guard at this point. We and the Karl's cavalry rushed to their aid, with the infantry in hot pursuit. However i saw to my horror that Valentinian had come under direct attack. He had become bogged down by the undead of the Huns. Suddenly i saw his horse burst in half as an undead flung it skywards. The Emperor was flung upwards, and then came crashing down to earth in a tangled mess of undead in a feeding frenzy. For a few seconds it looked like he could get away in the confusion. However he was soon pulled under and ripped to utter shreads, blood and body parts everywhere. We heard him scream once, then he was gone.
https://i477.photobucket.com/albums/...5-03-28-43.jpg
However at that moment the undead began, well.... exploding. The commander of the carrige balistas heard his Emperor scream, and had turned his weapon upon them in a desperate attempt to save him. For a few seconds it looked like it would work. However it was then that a LARGE portion of the Hunnic cavalry that had been held back by the balistas, launched forward and wiped the horses pulling the carts out. Without the horses the weapons lost all mobility and effectiveness. They were quickly destroyed. Then all of that cavalry turned it attention to the disheartened Roman infantry. Most of it was broken immediatley. Even general Aetius went under not to be seen again.
https://i477.photobucket.com/albums/...5-05-08-40.jpg
However the centurion, (i hope thats the right word for commander in Roman), that was in command of the Eagle of the Legio V managed to rally a lot of Romans to him. As well as that our infantry finally got to the Roman postions. With that the tide of battle turned towards us as we drove back several Hunnic cavalry sections.
https://i477.photobucket.com/albums/...5-06-26-61.jpg
The Hunnic commander saw this and screamed at some of his men. Then suddenly we heard the dead scream again. And bodies unimaginable arose from the earth. The bodies of not only men, but animals of every woodland shape and size as well. I realized that the Huns were desperate to win. Those undead must have numbered in the millions. However we kept on fighting like the true warriors we were. It was then that the Huns turned our flanks and tried to press us. However the High King's Karls stopped the Huns in their tracks. The Hunnic warlord became enraged and charged with all of his remaining cavalry at us. Then the High King spotted the monster himself. We charged him at full speed. Our two forces soon collided with each other. I got a good look at him, and he at me. I then recognized the bastard. It was the commander of the first Hunnic hordu to attack Germania. We screamed at almost the same time, "YOU!", whilst pointing at each other.
https://i477.photobucket.com/albums/...5-07-27-65.jpg
Then we locked into intense combat. After a few seconds both of our horses had been killed out from under us. We both got up and began hammering at each other. After a few minutes of this it becames clear that his guards were being overwhelmed by the horsemen of the High King. He looked around and saw this and began looking for a way to flee again. I was adamant not to let him. However then an explosion of black flames happened behind me. A demon had died. A full thrid of the undead dropped, and dissolved. The bastard took the opportunity to flee. However i quickly recovered and took off in pursuit. However it was thenthat another black explosion occured behind the fleeing fool. Many undead dissolved once again. This knocked me back. He gained ground on me. I chased him as fast as i could. However a third explosion occured in front of me and halted my progress completely. the remianing undead went down freeing a LARGE portion of our warriors. At this he fled the fighting, stole a horse that was unattended, and galloped off.
https://i477.photobucket.com/albums/...5-07-36-01.jpg
I screamed in rage. But then i saw a group of idle archers close to me. I order them to open fire at the lone man on the horse and kill him. They did so with a vigor. First his horse was killed out from under him. Then he hit the ground in a way as to break his legs. As he tried to crawl away the archers opened fire once again. A few hit his arms, stopping him completely. However it was an elven archer that sent an arrow straight up his spine and into his brain that finally killed him. As i looked at his lifeless corpse i muttered, "So, where is your 'strength' now, eh fool?"
https://i477.photobucket.com/albums/...5-08-21-83.jpg
At that point any sembiance of order amongst the Huns collapsed and they fled like lunatics as well.
https://i477.photobucket.com/albums/...5-10-18-68.jpg
The day was ours, but at a horrific cost. Out of 15000 Romans at the begining of today, barley 1500 were still with us, and their Emperor had died a horrific death as well. We di manage to find general Aetius under a pile of corpses, by some miracle still alive, but he was far gone. We are currently trying to heal him. Our forces had taken hits too, we lost almost 2000 warriors out of 11000. Not nearly as bad as the Romans but still. We have DAYS worth of more of this slaughter ahead of us if the size of the Hunnic force still before us is any indication. I can only pray that we get help or we will all die, HORRIBLY!
Chapter Seventeen:The End of the World (Part Two)
(From the Runic book:)
The next morning
Last night i had a strange dream. In this dream i was sitting at the side of a lake in the middle of some woodlands, it was summer, and the sky was beautiful and clear. Next to me was a woman in a long white dress, with a white cloak with the cowl up over her face. She turned to me and spoke. I will record what i can remember of the conversation here.
"I have a message for you", the woman said. I looked at her, surprised. "Is this why my dreams are invaded by beautiful women? To bear messages?", i said. At this she laughed a clear, joyous laugh and said,"Only this once my friend. The High Father gives you and yours his blessing, as do the other High Ones. Go forth in their names and destroy the evils before you." She spoke of Odin and the gods. I said, "Many thanks for this. But that may not even be enough to defeat these demons and evils before us." She looked at me surprised and scared. "Do you not accept the blessing?", she asked. "Oh yes i accept it and am very grateful. I just know that come tommorow there may not be any of us left.", i quickly said. She looked into the lake and said, "Do not lose hope or faith. Help is coming." "I can only hope so. But we still need something to turn the odds in our favor, for if this evil escapes us this cycle will repeat again and again. Death will overwhelm the world.", i said to her. She looked thoughtful for a moment, then said, "I will see what can be done about this. But for now rest. You will need your strength come tommorow." She then turned and kissed me on the forehead, and i fell into a state of bliss that not even sex can offer. As i was feeling good, she stood and said,"Till tommorow good one, till tommorow." Then ligh that glowed of the purest white emerged from her back and formed into shapes i could not recognize in my current state. Then she flew off into the bright sky.
I must go now for the day's battle is to begin soon.
That evening
Well the help that i was promised did arrive today. And it was promptly butchered into an inch of its life. As we formed up our lines for the fight the sky suddenly went dark. Then a thousand arrows landed amongst the Hunnic forces from the north. The Saxonz had come at last. However their entire force was made of infantry!
The Hunnic warlord saw this and ordered a portion of his forces to thwart their advance. Upon seeing this the Saxonz formed into a strange formation. It looked like a cresent moon.
https://i477.photobucket.com/albums/...21-29-82-1.jpg
The Hunnic underlord ordered his forces to surround them expecting an easy kill.
https://i477.photobucket.com/albums/...5-23-14-22.jpg
His horsebows formed up at the flanks of the Saxonz.
https://i477.photobucket.com/albums/...5-38-51-04.jpg
However the Saxonz commander had anticipated this and had had his archers gather many extra arrows. The sky to the north of our battle field grew dark with arrows. however the saxonz archers were far more steady with their aim and were able to kill more of the Huns than they could return. Seeing this the Hunnic commander became enraged and ordered his forces forward at the double.
https://i477.photobucket.com/albums/...5-40-25-75.jpg
The gap between the two sides QUICKLY closed. As the Hunnic cavalry slammed into the wall of Saxonz everyone held their breath. But the wall held! IT HELD!!! Many of our men cheered at the sight of this.
But the Hunnic bastard was smart. He ordered his men to flee for their lives, or so we thought.
https://i477.photobucket.com/albums/...5-45-09-55.jpg
Much of his army did the same. However the Saxonz commander was overconfident at that point. he ordered his men to break rank and attack the fleeing enemy. Almost as soon as their rank was broken the Hunnic horsebows charged the Saxonz. This allowed the Hunnic commander to rally all of his horsemen to his side. They then charged into the rear of the Saxonz army. Most of it was killed, including the Saxonz commander. However his housekarls were far stronger than anyone gave them credit for. They somehow single handedly saved that battle. They broke the horsebows, and then carved their way through to a few spearbands that had not been outright oblierated, and saved them as well. Then, with a cry of "FOR ALBION" upon their lips. they turned the Hunnic cavalry upside-down and tore it to pieces. The slaughter was insane. During this fight the Hunnic commander fell from his horse and had his skull crushed in by a Saxonz warhammer. The Saxonz that had killed him didnt stop beating his skull until it was nothing more than a bloody pulp. Upon seeing the sickening death of their commander the remaining Hunnic forces fled.
https://i477.photobucket.com/albums/...5-47-24-78.jpg
However the Saxonz didnt stay and rest, they got up and followed the Huns.
https://i477.photobucket.com/albums/...5-50-44-08.jpg
I thought that they must have been mad! However in the end they wiped the Hunnic force from the face of the Earth. But the carnage they left behind them would be more than enough to fill the bellies of the carion-birds for YEARS to come.
https://i477.photobucket.com/albums/...5-52-25-19.jpg
The remaining Saxonz then marched for our lines. They made it before the fight on our end began. however seeing that nearly all of the forces he had sent to deal with the Saxonz had been annihilated, Attila though twice about it and didnt engage us today.
So i am left with the mess to clean up it appears. I must go now and question the scout and survivors about the battle.
Chapter Eighteen:Blood Winter
(From the Runic book:)
Winter 381AD
It has been nearly three weeks since i was able to write in this codex. We have been hunting the Hns since they escaped the killing fields at Chalons. Damn them and their dark magics. The day after the disastrous battle with the Saxonz, their warlord Attila ecided to flee before he became too pinned down to be effective, and escaped with dark magics under the cover of darkness. While the Romans have managed to block off the passes into Italy and Hispania, Gaul remains a killing field. Many villages and towns have fallen. Even some of the Major cities such as Burgidalia, Samobrivia, and the Colonia Fresbia, Aggripa, and even the mighty citadel of Lestuoia have burned. I have seen so many dead innocents, women and chidren strung up and disembowled, men castrated or torn limb from limb. However what worries me the most is that even with all of the death that they have left behind, the Roman records show 9 times the number of people, as to the dead bodies that we are finding, lived in this area before the Invasion.
Only three truely great cites remain. They are Augusta Treverorum, Avaricum, and the ancient port of Massalia. We have picked up the trail going east. We think it is Treverorum that they are after. The city however is well garrisoned and supplied and we have sent warning birds to their commanders, so they should be ready for the Hunnic filth to arrive. I hope we can make it time for the festivities.
Three Days Later
DAMMIT ALL!!!!!!! The Huns have tricked us. DAMN THEM!!! They bypassed Augusta Treverorum and continued east, they are heading for Germania. With most of our forces in the east fighting the Huns on that front or chasing them in Gaul, we have nearly no forces along the Rhine. The fact that it is Snowfall doesnt help anything due to the fact that the Rhine can freeze solid during cold winters like this, allowing the Huns full access to our homelands. If they burn our homelands we will die a horrible death this winter. The Romans will also be put into a situation that they cannot win, with so much of Gaul aflame they will have next to no defenses or soldier sources for the Hunnic invasion that will occur as soon as Germania is broken. And if Rome falls we lose this war for Constantinople cannot hold out against these demons without support and weapons, and food of course. DAMN THAT ATTILA!!!!!!! He is far smarter than i ever gave him credit for. We are currently hurrying without rest towards the Rhine. I can only pray that we make it.
Chapter Nineteen: Savior
(From the Greek book:)
Winter 381AD
This is not a good sign. The masses of this poleis are starving. Many more strange signs have been occurring. Yesterday i walked down the streets and on my way back to the palace i saw lights coming from beneath the pavement stones. When i ordered the stones removes to see what was the trouble the lights exploded killing several guards. During what we can determine to be the night from how badly the sky burns the fires glow green or blue rather than red and black. Commoners have been reporting strange shapes and sound in the night sky as well. Some call it demons or dragons or some other such thing. Many have reported having strange dreams as well, myself included. In my dream at least i see our city aflame and the monster outside tormenting the poor survivors, They then turn the survivors into some sort of slimy material and throw them into a flame pit that glows with black flames. Its frightening. Many people are losing health and sleep due to these events. I can only hope that help arrives soon.
(From the Runic Book:)
Winter 381AD
Well somehow we have avoided total disaster. The Huns were kept out of Germania by a miracle. We could not catch up to them in time to halt their crossing of the river. We were barley three days behind them at the point of the crossing. They formed into three HUGE waves to prepare and cross VERY quickly or so the scout that was watching this event told us. The first wave was mainly made of slave soldiers that were to clear the eastern bank for the rest of the horde. This they did. However as the second wave crossed the ice underneath them suddenly glowed the purest white the man had ever seen. This light somehow froze the undead and their controlling demons. And try as they might those demons could not free themselves. This was a HUGE portion of Attila's horde that had become trapped. Attila, fearing for his campaign, ordered all the demons that had stayed with his portion of the army to to free the demons and their undead. As they tried to do this the ice glowed brighter and brighter till it looked as if it was midday under the purest of Suns.
Then the ice shattered all at once. Nearly all of the ones upon it died, many blackfire eruptions occurred. Control over the undead ended right then and there. The slaves on the other side of the river saw their opportunity and fled into the woods, doing their desperate best to flee Hunnic wrath. All of them got away.
After the ice shattered a figure rose from the waters, it turned to the Huns and spoke to them in Slavic, as this scout of our is a Slav, i am able to record what was said.
"FOUL ONES!!!!! YOUR END IS NIGH!!!!", the white figure said in a feminine voice. Attila came forward to confront this apparition, and he spoke to it in Slavic as well, "Filthy bitch how DARE you destroy so much of my army. And to go about making threats to me as if you are superior to me. HA!!! My end eh? Well we will see about that. ATTACK HER!!!!!!!!"
The Hunnic demons then began to attempt to attack the figure with their black arts. However she repelled them with ease. And then she began to attack the Hunnic monsters, her powers taking much of their strength to defeat. As she fought the demons she began to take a more solid form. When she finally took shape the scout told us that she was a beautiful young woman that had golden hair, and blue scars over eyes that looked like blue hawk eyes. She also had a pair of white birds wings on her back and a white birds tail at the base of her spine.
I stopped him at this point and made SURE that this was true. He swore on the grave of his family that it was. I was stunned at this. The White Lady had come back to us. I immediately ordered the highest Runic-Hand member to my tent and made him contact the Ring of Light within the capital. When i told him why he became overjoyed. He tripled his pace to confirm the news. I also had the High King informed. He recieve the news with elation as well.
The poor scout did not know why we were in such a frenzy but i calmed down enough to inform him that and important sign had just been revealed to us from his words. And i asked him what happened next. He continued to say that after she had taken shape she bombarded the Huns with shards of light. Under the relentless assault, Attila ordered his warriors and demons to flee. So they fled north along the river attempting to find another crossing point. However the lady shattered all of the ice on the river for the whole winter. They wont be finding their point anytime soon. Or at all for that matter. I must go now for we continue the hunt.
Nice updates.
You really have a talent in "re-playing" historical battles.:2thumbsup:
The White Lady has picked quite a good moment to reappear.
I Wonder what will happen in Konstantinople....
:thinking2:
Thanx:laugh4:
Eh well i have studied about 2/3s of the Late Roman era superbattles to some degree

Chapter Twenty: Hatred's Destiny (Part One)
(From the Runic book:)
Winter 381AD
We have pursued the Huns from the site of their destruction. As we closed in however Attila sent all of his remaining demons and undead to stop or at the very least slow us down. However we would NOT let them escape us again, not when we were so close. So the Romans voted to go after the undead as we went around to continue the pursuit of the Hunnic elites.
They formed battle lines to the south and used the scent of fresh meat to lure the undead towards them.
https://i477.photobucket.com/albums/...6-14-27-18.jpg
They came with a vengeance.
https://i477.photobucket.com/albums/...6-15-09-56.jpg
Their army was so massive and yet it had few demons to control all of those undead, at least that what i was told after it ended. With such little control the undead required herders top guide them towards the Roman lines.
https://i477.photobucket.com/albums/...6-15-16-32.jpg
These poor bastards were of the unfortunates that had not crossed the river to freedom. As such they acted as guides and food for the undead. However the Roman general Aetius had been working on his tactics since the battle of Chalons. He had developed a type of horsebow corps for his army. His plan was to test them here. He had them ride to the far side of the field and hide within some trees to ambush whatever they could.
https://i477.photobucket.com/albums/...6-15-26-55.jpg
As the battle began the hurtled forward towards Roman lines.
https://i477.photobucket.com/albums/...8-55-23-73.jpg
However one of the two groups of herders moved to close to the woods and the commander of the Roman horsebows decided to attack them. The ambush was a total success. The herders fled the filed and threw the entire right flank of the Hunnic undead into chaos. The horsebows took the opportunity to assault them as well. Many, many undead fell. Then the demons used what control they had to force the undead to surround the horsebows. However the horsebows fled before they could become pinned down. They made the mistake of fleeing into trees and getting slowed down.
https://i477.photobucket.com/albums/...8-59-34-69.jpg
Most of the army continued onwards toward the main Roman line, but several groups of undead went for the horsebows.
https://i477.photobucket.com/albums/...8-58-40-42.jpg
The horsebows rode as fast as they could for the exit of the treeline. Many did not make it. The rest fled for the rear.
https://i477.photobucket.com/albums/...9-01-36-62.jpg
The main Hunnic forces closed in on the roman footmen. However they made the mistake of send the other group of herders forward first.
https://i477.photobucket.com/albums/...8-57-26-58.jpg
They paid in blood for their mistake.
https://i477.photobucket.com/albums/...8-57-54-25.jpg
However by this time the undead were focused on the Roman line enough for this not to matter anymore. The Huns then attempted to surround the Roman's line with their numbers. As the underlord and demons attacked from the front the undead surged in from behind. But the Roman countered by splitting their forces and taking on the undead behind them.
https://i477.photobucket.com/albums/...9-01-07-67.jpg
These undead were pitifully armed and put together so they fell like flies before the Romans. The demons were cut off from their support and with each death that support became less and less.
Then their underlord went down. And all turned into chaos for the undead. The shattered and dissolved left and right. The battle quickly ended after that.
https://i477.photobucket.com/albums/...9-04-17-26.jpg
As for the horsebows some survived the battle, and amazingly enough they killed the most number of undead during the battle.
https://i477.photobucket.com/albums/...9-04-40-72.jpg
General Aetius declared his test a success and order many more of these men to be recruited and trained. They wont be ready int time for the final battle with the Huns however. We have pined the Elites down north of the ruins of Colonia Aggripania. Soon we will destroy them.
Chapter Twenty: Hatred's Destiny (Part Two)
(From the Runic book:)
Spring 382AD
Its over. Finally, its over. As i sit here and look at the clear skies i see peace and beauty in the restored Sun. And as i look over the field of chaos i see death and destruction all over, burning trees, dessicated corpses, and the burning bodies of undead and demons. I think to myself that at least no one will ever have to go through this again.
Attila is finally dead. And the Huns in the Roman Empire destroyed for good. I will do my best to relate the events of the past days in this book to the best of my abilities.
About a week ago we continued our pursuit of the Huns towards the coasts of Gaul. We finally caught up with them outside of a forest only 30 miles from the coast, which i believe they did not know to be there. Otherwise they would have outflanked us to continue towards Hispania or Italy. Anyways the Huns took up positions outside of a forest to try and funnel us towards their undead.
https://i477.photobucket.com/albums/...2-42-05-72.jpg
However what they didn't count on was the fact the the Roman infantry could manage to fight within the woods well. They were to march through the woods and ambush the Huns from behind...
https://i477.photobucket.com/albums/...2-41-45-47.jpg
...while we were to hammer them towards the ambush.
https://i477.photobucket.com/albums/...2-41-31-16.jpg
I rode with the High King's guard and the other cavalry. As the battle began we surged forwards towards the Huns.
https://i477.photobucket.com/albums/...2-50-21-16.jpg
The fighting was brutal. These were no slaves or undead but pureblooded Huns, and they fought like it. Many good Germans were killed bringing down the Hunnic heavy cavalry.
https://i477.photobucket.com/albums/...2-50-45-69.jpg
However in the woods things were not going as well as we expected. The Huns, seeing what was about to happen, sent their undead into the woods after the Romans. This light troops moved twice as fast as the Roman heavy soldiers could within the dense trees. As such they pinned down thee Romans. It was then that Attila must have gotten the idea to use his cavalry in what is possibly the most insane stroke of brilliance since Megas Alexander. His cavalry poured into the woods and somehow got the upper hand on much of the Roman army. This forced us to move into the woods to save the Roman army from total destruction. It was barley enough for we rescued a Roman army torn to bits, but still willing to fight on. The fight then shifted again. The Veiled Elves, the highest order that an Elf can aspire to, came under heavy attack by a band of Heavy Hunnic cavalry. We expected them to be destroyed. however they fought off their attackers. rallied the rest of the archers to them and started raining death amongst the Huns. The Huns in return rained death upon the archers.
Then Attila himself entered the field. Immediately the battle swung in their favor as his guard destroyed a full band of spear men, and a cohort of Romans as well. However the High King saw this and immediately charged Attila's men. When we collided with them it was the most brutality i think i have ever seen.
https://i477.photobucket.com/albums/...2-51-57-39.jpg
Then the High King was flung from his horse. He fell to the Earth and was immediately stomped upon by one of the demon horses. The hoof crushed his skull in. And so, Harmazez, High King and defender of Germania, was taken into the next world. Even so the men kept fighting, for they refused to give in when they were so close to finally putting an end to the Hunnic threat to their families once and for all.
There was death everywhere. In desperation the demons set the trees aflame. Many, many men, undead and even a few demons, burned to death due to this act. As the Huns fled out of sheer terror, Attila broke off and went after them to rally as many as he could.
https://i477.photobucket.com/albums/...2-54-29-13.jpg
He began braking harsh, evil words. Immediately the entire force halted and regrouped. However this is what in the end doomed them. For they had stopped in front of the burning forest, and the archers, led by the Veiled Elves and Runic Hand, had surrounded them. They poured three sets of arrows into the grouped Huns. Attila died from one of those arrows.
https://i477.photobucket.com/albums/...2-53-00-48.jpg
The sky immediately shattered and began to return to normal. The undead exploded or turned on the Huns themselves until they dissolved all the way. Black flames erupted from nowhere. Trees shattered, bodies exploded. All was chaos on the battlefield.
The arrows didn't stop until all the Huns were dead at that point.
https://i477.photobucket.com/albums/...2-57-38-85.jpg
And so it ended. It finally ended. We spent the next three day resting in the cool spring air and regrouping form our wounds. The Roman had lost many, many brave men to these demons. This was probably their greatest victory in ages.
However i must go now for there are many things left to attend to. One of the biggest ones is the Ascension of the new High Queen.
Congratulations on your victory.:2thumbsup:
High Queen?!?! - I wonder if the Germans will follow her..... ore is there a chance of a german Civil war?
Chapter Twenty One: Thermopylae the Second
(From the Greek book:)
Winter 381AD
As i write these words there is Chaos in Hellas. The barbaroi are seeming to repeat the Akkadian invasions of old. They were first met on the fields before Thessaloniki. Unfortunately both they and the city were destroyed. The next fight was a near total repeat of the first one. With that Makedonia fell.
The next site where the barbaroi were met was Thermopylae. The site of the greatest triumph and tragedy of those old wars. Where the brave Leonidas and his Spartans stood against the might of the evil Akkadians. Until they were surrounded and crushed they were doing an excellent job too. This time around however it was the advance forces of General Agenor that held the pass. Against them were 30000 barbaroi horsemen, and an untold number of slave soldiers. The barbaroi also have a habit of defiling graves and raising the dead to fight for them. These monsters force sons to fight long dead fathers and grandfathers. How can God allow such an evil to exist?
Anyway as the battle began the barbaroi outright charged the spearmen that held the pass, probably expecting to mow them down and force the pass. However Mount Koliodromos made sure that they could not out flank our forces. The barbaroi were flung back with HUGE losses. As they fled out of the pass in terror their commander whipped them back into line. He then decided to send in his slave forces to displace the Greeks within the pass. All this got him was a lot of dead slaves and risen. While his evil witchmen brought the corpses up again and again nothing was going to get through the pass like that. As the day ended the commander was forced to call off all important troops. He let the risen continue for they didnt not care that night had come. So Greeks were forced to fight these risen for many hours into the night. The next day the rest of General Agenor's forces hadnt arrived yet. So these worn and tired men were forced to continue fighting the risen for much of the day.
In fact it was almost two more days before the first of the generals troops arrived. By this time the barbaroi had found the goatpath behind the pass. However some brave citizens of Phoica had blocked it as well. The risen however did manage to brush them aside unlike the main force. They then proceeded to surround the poor advanced forces. At least one of those men survived the battle and lived to tell me of the story. The barbaros commander then demanded the surrender of the Greeks that held the pass. What was said next i will record here.
"FOOLISH SLAVES!!! LAY DOWN YOUR WEAPONS AND YOU WILL NOT DIE A SLOW PAINFUL DEATH!!!", the barbaros commander roared. The Greek commander, a man named Parotes, came forward and said to the monster, "We, like our ancestors before us will never surrender this pass to the likes of you! If it must be then we will lay down our lives like the Spartans before us." The monster looked perplexed. "Why is it that you resist my will dog?", he said to Parotes. Parotes looked at the thing and said,"do you honestly think this is the first time that we have fought beasts like you? NO!!! Once before in this exact spot another man was made the same offer you make to me, vile barbaros. This man was surround by monster and demons as i am. And he stay, fought and died, to save his country. So honestly why would i let my people down and submit to your slavery or the long and painful death that awaits me if i do?" The barbaros looked at the commander enraged. "Dog", he spat,"you WILL serve me in this life or the next it does not matter. And when i finally get my hands on you i will make sure to do the most unspeakable things to you that are possible, rest assured of that."
And with that the battle began. The Greeks fought the risen for nearly an hour. However they were getting pushed down the pass ever so slowly. At the point it looked like they would get pushed out completely.
However it was then that the main body arrived. They immediately assaulted the risen at the eastern end of the pass. They went for the surrounded troops in a desperate attempt to save them and the position. However by the time that they reached the troops, they had already lost the pass to the risen. It was then that the barbaroi charged the pass. All seemed lost. However Parotes had sent a few men onto the lookout position on Mount Koliodromos to keep a watch on the enemy and gather boulders for just such an occasion as this. The men dumped many of the large boulders onto the barbaroi as they hit the pass. Death was everywhere, almost 3000 died in the first landslide, nearly 5000 in the second and third ones. However they also hit many of the advanced men as well. However this stopped the barbaroi advance dead in it tracks. This allowed the main Greek army to advance back up the pass and onto the western plain. They drove the devastated barbaroi back into Thessaly. My cousin has given what men that survived the pass the greatest riches the Arche can offer. These men are the greatest heroes of the day. As the barbaroi are forced back toward Konstantinopolis we will soon be receiving them. The attacks are growing more evil and fierce by the day as well. Ive seen them attempt to fling monsters over the walls to create chaos. In one instance one of them almost opened the gates before we could stop it. Also there has been attempts on the lives of many of the leaders of this city. Three attacked my cousin.
But i have to go and organize the award ceremonies now for the heroes of the second Thermopylae.
Chapter Twenty Two: A New Beginning
(From the Runic book:)
Autumn 382AD
As i write these words, i watch our new ruler, Mezthenalza being crowned. She is a young girl, barley eight winters old. But she is the only remaining blood of Ansuharjaz the Great. Even as she is surrounded by her guard of Veiled Elves, she is receiving the crown from the High Rune Priest. Honestly to me she looks absolutely terrified. However she will learn, for it is i whom has been appointed her tutor and guardian. However the regent is the Jarl of the Franx, Juzarlez. His father was killed during the first attack by the Huns. However he has proven a capable leader, and trustworthy as well. We should be fine until she comes of age.
Events beyond our borders however are continuing to move far faster than we'd like. The remaining Huns under the second brother, whose name we now know to be Bledda, are continuing attacks on Greece and Constantinople. The Huns out on the steppes are also still attacking us as well. However a solution has presented itself. The slaves of Attila's former hordu have been freed. They seek revenge upon the Huns and to reclaim their ancestral lands. We are going to provide them with the funding, weapons and support that they need to do this. If we can overthrow the Huns on their own lands then we can end this evil forever.
Im afraid that the Lady has not been reawakened. When her image appeared at the Rhine she was doing all she could to protect us. However the signs show that it was not the right time for her to leave the crystal. But she kept her promise to us and came back to save us in our hour of need.
But i must leave off for now for the High Queen is seeing her supplicants now and i want to get in line early so i am not stuck waiting for hours.
Just posting here to tell you you're doing a great job, keep it up:thumbsup: Unfortunately though, I just manage to read some past fragments of your posts and have not yet caught up (God, there are many AARs out there:dizzy2:).

Chapter Twenty Three: Demon's Rise
(From the Greek book:)
Spring 382AD
The coming of spring this year has changed many things. The skies cleared up quite a lot about three weeks ago. We have heard that the warlord of the barbaroi in the west has been soundly defeated and killed. The people of this polis cheered their hearts out at this news. For it not only means that men are now free to come to our aid and that crops will now grow in some part of the world, as well as health can return, but that these monsters are NOT invincible as they claim to be to us daily. In fact my cousin, emboldened by the news, told this to the barbaroi spewing their horrid tongue at us earlier this week. The "conversation" went like this, as far as i can remember.
The barbaroi were spewing their rhetoric at us in a vain attempt to get us to surrender as they had been for almost a year now. Then my cousin appeared upon the walls. The barbaroi's ambassador came up to the walls to greet us. "Greeting dog", the barbaros said in poor Greek, "you wish give up yourself? Or must pain continue" "Tell your foul leader that his days are numbered", my cousin said to the monster, "He will not survive this year!" At this the barbaros began laughing a hateful laugh. "And why this is dog?", he said after he was done laughing. "So you have not heard then filthy one? Well look at the sky. THAT at least should tell you something, that is unless your brains are to addled after gelding your mares to your pricks.", my cousin spat at the fool. He became very angry and started yelling at my cousin in a language i didn't understand nor, from the sound of it, did i WANT to understand it either. After he was done he looked at the sky and said, "I see nothing, just pain and hate, as sky should be dog." At that my cousin started laughing, really hard at the idiot. "You...you honestly do not see..", he said before he burst out laughing again. At this the barbaros became angry again. "WHAT TO SEE DOG?!?!?!", he roared. "You FOOL the Sun of course", my cousin told the barbaros. He looked up and saw the Sun, then he said to my cousin, "So, Sun always there, God Attila using more magic to beat you Rome friends down. When he finish them, come for you." "Not if he is DEAD idiot", my cousin said to him. "What you mean dog? He is God, he not die!", the foul one said to us. At this my cousin became enraged and yelled at the fool, "HE IS DEAD MONSTER!!!!! THAT DEMON HAS BEEN PUT DOWN AND SO WILL YOUR "MASTER" BLEDDA ALONG WITH YOUR WHOLE FUCKING MISBEGOTTEN RACE!!!!!!! SO RUN BARBAROS! RUN AS FAR AS YOU CAN, FOR YOU CANNOT ESCAPE THE WRATH OF THE ALMIGHTY AND ONE TRUE GOD!!!!" At this the barbaros was too stunned to speak and immediately fled back to his camp. "Well", my cousin said, "I think THAT got the message across."
And with that the conversation ended. Id say it went over rather well. The number of barbaroi attacks has been significantly curtailed since the announcement. We think that the barbaroi might actually retreat. But i can only guess at this outcome.
But i must go for now, for i need to attend to courtly matters.
I smell a plot twist:beam:. Great writing there Olaf:2thumbsup:. You should make this into a novel. It't really great stuff:smiley:.
Chapter Twenty Four: The Fangs of Evil
(From the Greek book:)
Summer 382AD
I write these words as i take a break from prayer. The events and insanity of the past few months have really nearly destroyed me.
Let me begin. This chaos that currently consumes the poleis started at the end of spring. At first we assumed that the barbaroi had finally planted another plague amongst the masses and that it would pass in a few weeks, because God was watching over His faithful flock. This plague manifestes itself with bluish boils over the eyes and noses, as well as a reeking odor of garlic. We prayed to God to aid us and end this foul incursion.
However it did not end. It got worse, for most of the infected were driven insane by the infection. I saw a priest get ripped apart by a woman that he was trying to treat whom finally gave in to the disease. Ive seen children eat their parents and people tearing their heads off and other such.....things.
The worst of the infections i have seen so far was a woman at the market whom was infected. She was one of the wandering homeless in the poleis. Her signs of infection were deep but all she did was mumble incoherently and wander around blindly. However she was clearly a danger of spreading the infection to the people around her, so i ordered some of my guards to arrest her and have her flung from the walls. However as they advanced upon her she started screaming the same scream as the other victims. I though she had finally broken, as did my guards, whom pulled out their swords to protect me. The people had fled by this point so we were alone in the square. As i considered turning back and running too, she stopped screaming and started howling. We looked at her, very confused at that point. However the confusion soon turned to terror as all of a sudden she grew three feet, hunched over, and her clothes started splitting open. She then proceeded to...well i cant describe it in any other way...expand. She also started to grow fur all over her body, as well as wolf-like ears. She then grew a wolfen tail, and to top it all off, a wolfish face and muzzle. By the time she was done with her transformation she had lost everything human about her. She was some kind of wolf or dog thing that "stood" on its hind legs.
https://i477.photobucket.com/albums/..._Emryswolf.jpg
As my guards recovered they began to advance on the thing, swords and spears drawn. To the beast they might as well have been statues of river clay. I watched as it destroyed the first man to come near it in barley a second or two. It then turned on the other three guards with surprising speed. However one of my guards got in a lucky spear thrust before he got disemboweled. This hit the thing's left leg. While a small wound it was apparently enough to disengage us from its interest. It took off down a side alley, towards the walls. As it ran i got a VERY good look at it. I suddenly realized that it was heavy with child. In fact it was VERY heavy with child. I was as shocked then as i am now writing about it.
Needless to say it got away from me. It then later proceeded to climb the walls, slaughter a few guards and then make a near suicide leap off of the walls, with no difficultly at all. The last we've heard of it, it is fleeing north towards the steppes.
This is only ONE of the numerous problems that we face. After the plague began food riots occurred all over the city for almost a week before order was restored. People believe that it is the foreign grain that is causing the infection and many refuse to eat it. Other have taken to murdering the infected and burning the corpses within the walls. This has causes several small fires. There have also been several revolts by the poor of this poleis out of fear of the plague. Even the palace is no longer safe, for three days ago i was almost killed by an assassin. I was walking down the halls of the palace with my guards when i noticed something out of the corner of my eye. As i bent down to see what it was something flew over my head and shattered the glass vase behind me. My guards immediately shoved into the nearest room and then went after the assassin. They did not find him though.
So now i am sitting in the safe rooms that the Emperor Constantine had built under his favorite church, the Hagia Sofia. I usually go up to pray during the day and will occasionally go onto the higher balconies to see what is going on now in the city. Honestly though, i really dont see WHY i do this anymore, for all i see is chaos and death with the walls as well as without. The ONLY reason that the Huns have yet to breach our walls is because of the fact that so many soldiers that could be used to put down this trouble are being kept there and the foreign troops are instead being used for this task.
However i must go and return to my prayer now, for i have spent to long away for the altar.
You really are going well. Its a great story just keep it up:2thumbsup:
Just one note about Thermopylae: That hunnic "Warlord" deserved what he got - surrounds the enemy and then tries to convince them to surrender after suffering heavy casualities for 2 days because of them - What a FOOL:whip: he didn't deserve Hadúr's blessing...
Chapter Twenty Five: The Burning City (Part One)
(From the Greek book:)
Autumn 382AD
As i write these words i can feel something else is about to happen, I KNOW IT!!!!!
It started to rain a month ago and it hasn't stopped since. The rain at first was welcome for it provided much needed fresh water to our cities aquifers. But as the weeks passed the people began to get depressed, as if the rain was affecting them. I think it has affected me in the same way for i have been feeling depressed and lonely for about two weeks now.
Then, about a week ago, the rain suddenly turned from water to a black, oily substance. This stuff has gotten almost everywhere in the city. This stuff is also poisonous to drink. We found this out when the soldiers reported that the people that drank the stuff began to melt into puddles of goo. We then rushed to seal off the aquifer and found that only one had been spared. We were forced to dump the rest and set their inner compartments aflame to burn away the black oil. This quickly got out of control for the black stuff exploded into the air and set a full third of the city, including the palace aflame. However the fact that everything was so wet make sure that these flames didn't last for any real length of time, thankfully. Now no one has anything to drink at all and many people are still sick with the plague. The grain shipment have been infected with the black rain as well so they have stopped coming.
Out in the barbaroi camp, meanwhile our lookouts report the barbaroi to be restless. Strange lights and sounds have filtered out of the camp. It would not surprise me if the black rain was the work of the barbaroi.
SOMETHING HAS TO HAPPEN SOON OR WE WILL ALL DIE!!!!! I KNOW IT!!!! (tear stains dot these pages)
(From the Greek book:)
Two Weeks Later
As i sit here in mourning and nursing my wounded arm, i think about what has happened over the past weeks.
Five days after i wrote my last entry it began. The barba....i cant even CALL them that now. Not after what ive seen. Anyways the things began to chant an evil sounding chant outside of the gates. The chant continued for nearly half the day. Then, as suddenly as it started, the things stopped. Then what i would have to describe as the personal servant of Lucifer, came forth from it's horde of things. It called up to the walls for my cousin in Slavic that was very good. My cousin responded after a few minutes. The "conversation" i shall record here to the best of my memory.
"Foolish dogs", it spat,"Send your leader out to where i can see him." My cousin walked up to the top of the walls and out onto the edge of the balcony over the gatehouse, with me behind him. "Here barbaros, i am here. Now what do you want?", my cousin said. "I am here to congratulate you on resisting me for so long. But now i come before you to insist that you surrender your people to me.", it said. "And why would i even dream of doing that barbaros?", my cousin said to it. "Your people starve and your city burns with death rot, black rain and fire. The longer your wait the less merciful we shall be in our victory. Even your floating wood things have stopped coming toaid you in whatever way they did. Your allies have left you, your people will soon be put to a horrific torture. SURRENDER OR DIE LONG AND SLOW!!!!!!!!", it roared at my cousin. "You will not be able to defeat us.", my cousin said to it,"Your brother couldn't defeat the westerners and YOU certainly wont humiliate us by forcing us to lick your boots." It looked at my cousin, clearly perplexed. "And what do you mean by that, Attila has surely beaten your friends into the dirt by NOW!!!", it said to him. "Did i NOT explain this to your emissary already?!?", my cousin said to it, "Well if i didn't then LISTEN YOU FILTHY MONGREL! YOUR BROTHER IS DEAD!!!!! HIS ARMY IS GONE!!!! And you are next." The thing looked at my cousin with a glint of mirth in it's eyes. "Do you honestly expect me or any of my warriors to believe that, little dog?", it said to my cousin, "We are the Huns, we do not die. WE KILL!!!!" At this his whole army roared. My brother sighed and looked at it with glee in his eyes. "Well then if you require proof...", he said to it. The he yelled for his servants to bring him a ring in Greek. I asked him,"Cousin what ring are you talking about." "Attila's signet ring, it was found on his corpse and i received it about three months ago. I think now is the time to use it on this monster.", he said to me. I agreed wholeheartedly. His servant arrived with the ring in a handwrap a few moments later. Then my cousin turned back to it and said,"HERE IS MY PROOF!!!". With that he flung the ring in the handwrap down at the monster. When it opened the handwrap, it looked stunned with disbelief for a second. Then it began making cries in its horrible language. After a few cries much of it's army began to make other panicked cries of terror and disbelief. Then after it had finished it lament, it looked back up at my cousin and said,"So you have killed my brother then DOG!?!? Well now we will see whom is the victor here today. YOU WILL WISH YOU HAD SURRENDER WHEN YOU HAD THE CHANCE BY THE TIME I'M THROUGH WITH YOU!!!!!!!" It then started roaring commands in its native tongue.
And with that battle began. My cousin immediately ordered me off the walls and troops into positions along the walls.
However i must leave off for now for i need to get back to praying.
Chapter Twenty Five: The Burning City (Part Two)
(From the Greek book:)
Later That Day
Well now i am fully rested and able to devote more time, i can continue the earlier entry.
As the things began to chant their war-cries again. I retreat from the walls, so i was not in danger from the things attacks. As i fled towards the Hagia Sofia. I could hear the chants and screams getting louder and louder. I also heard cries of the risen and slave soldiers as they were shoved toward the walls and slaughtered like cattle and sheep. I reached the great church about twenty minutes into the attack. As i climbed up to the balcony i heard screams of terror from our own troops as well. I got onto the balcony and saw why this was happening. However what i saw also looked utterly impossible. It appeared as if the things were sucking the very LIFE from the land itself! The lands around the things' camps were turning from lush farmlands and forests into desolate wastes. The life-force that was being drained seemed to be going into a large ritual circle in the middle of the things' camps. Around this circle many of those monsters were chanting an awful chant. The more life-force that was drained the faster the chanting became.
Then, after about five minutes of this, the chanting reached an incredible pitch, and then, it suddenly stopped. Then the ground began to rumble within the circle. As the rumbling got louder cracks began to form in the land within the circle. And then suddenly the markings that formed the edge of the circle lifted off the ground as a HUGE mass of blackened soil and some other things flew out of the ground. The mass of marking formed a circle around the mass of soil. Within the soil began to transform into flesh. The fleshy material began to take shape as well. I was not the only one whom noticed this as the commander of one of the towers' balistae ordered his men to fire at the thing before it could become whatever it was trying to become. That didn't work for the mass of symbols protected the forming flesh. The flesh formed and shaped itself gradually. First it created a body that was long and ended in a long tail. Then it grew bat-like wings out of its upper back. Then it grew a scaly, lizard-like head. At that point i recognized something about it. What i thought it was frightened me so bad that i leaned over the balcony and threw up for almost twenty seconds. When i picked my head back up i saw that my fear were being confirmed by the second. It grew four scaly legs with four claws on each foot. Its whole body became covered in black scales that emitted blue-black fire from the pores in its body. Horns grew out of the back of its head. It got two lizard eyes.
When it finally completed its transformation, it let off a HUGE roar. It was a DRAGON! A personal bodyguard hound to Lucifer HIMSELF!!!!! The beast stumbled as if it was unused to walking around. The things that surrounded it then started chanting once again. This chant seemed to steady the monster. After about a minute of this the Dragon spread it wings burst forth from the circle of symbols, which promptly faded into nothing, and tore off into the air, roaring in its delight. Soon however the leader of the things called something, i believe it is commands, to the monster and it came down allowed several riders onto its back and the took off again, towards the walls this time. My cousin ordered all of his reserves towards the outer walls to counter this new threat.
The men on the outer walls became incredibly frightened at the sight of this monstrosity. But the commanders, i don't know HOW, managed to keep order amongst their troops. As it flew towards the walls, the tower balistae turned their attention from the waves of undead to the Dragon. However the beast was far too quick to be caught by the few balistae the remained on the outer walls. It flew up and over the outer walls. As it got over the outer walls it let out a HUGE burst of fire from its black jaws. The black rain that had been soaking this poleis for a week is highly flammable. What happened next was not a mere flame, or even a large fire. Nearly half of the Outer Quarter EXPLODED! Flames flew EVERYWHERE, some pieces hit the outer walls with such force that men fell from the battlements. The Dragon then landed amongst a cohort of men and proceeded to flame broil them and eat many of them before fly onwards towards the inner walls of the city.
https://i477.photobucket.com/albums/...by_treijim.jpg
However the inner walls had MANY more balistae than the outer walls did. These forced the monster to turn around and try to get away. However, we got several lucky hits on its wings, shattering bones. This forced it to crash into the streets. Unfortunately this blocked the only safe routes to the outer walls for the relief troops. Most of them turned around and head for the inner poleis and what safety it provided.
However the Dragon got back up. While it was still alive and dangerous, its wings were clipped. It had crashed near the Flavian Gate of the outer walls. Immediately my cousin ordered troops to start firing at the thing. Its handler things saw that they were doomed, trapped and without help or escape, but they forced the beast on anyways. They pointed its mouth at the Flavian Gate and kicked it in the back of the neck. A huge blast of fire shot out of its mouth. The Flavian gate was annihilated, as were about one third of the buildings surrounding it. Several building around the Dragon collapsed upon the monster after the impact set their already tottering foundations over the edge. This several the Dragon's head from its neck, killing it instantly. However the damaged had been done. The outer walls had been breached.
But i must leave off for now. The priest that is taking care of my wounds says i need my rest.
Plz use the save I sent you.
Well i will use it but idk how to use saves that other ppl made. Do you just open it or do i gotta do something fancy with my code?

Chapter Twenty Five:The Burning City (Part Three)
(From the Greek book:)
The Next Day
It is hard to find room to write with all of these people crammed in here but i finally found the space and time. Maybe ill be able to finish this entry today.
After the destruction of the Flavian Gate, the hordes of risen poured forth. The ruins of the gate QUICKLY became a bloodbath. The troops that had been stationed to guard it had been mostly killed in the explosion. But several reserves from the walls that were no longer needed due to the fact almost all of the risen were assaulting this weak spot had come to take their place. However they could not get into position fast enough and got hit HARD by the risens' first assault. My cousin knew that at this point he was in trouble. So he ordered the outer walls abandoned. As the surviving troops poured out of the other two gates onto the ground, the men at the Flavian gate were slowly being pushed back. Things looked as if they were going to fall apart. However it was then that some of the barbaroi from Germania hurtled into the fight. It was more of those strange sword-priests of theirs. With their bodies and swords aglow, they burned through the ranks of the risen. This bought my cousins forces time to get off of the walls.
However as they began to retreat the thing sent some HUGE risen bodies, maybe 20 or 30 hands ((15-20 feet)) high to attack the gate. However once they had engaged the sword-priests, the things RAPIDLY formed up a battle line behind the huge risen and charged. At a loud barking noise the huge risen collapsed forward, allowing the things to surprise and annihilate the sword-priests.
The regular risen then poured around the things horses and into the poleis.
At this point i began to be unable to see large parts of the battle due to a huge amount of smoke that was pouring from the burning parts of the poleis. From what information i managed to gather from the survivors of the retreat, i REALLY don't think i want to know what it looked like. Almost all of them were insane from the trauma that they experienced. The few that were still coherent could barely remember what happened. I was told stories of women being eaten, families being slaughter, whole cohorts being ambushed, both by pure blooded things and risen, the former something that all of them refused to remember. What i saw was smoke with intermittent flashes of the sword-priests light. What i heard was far more frightening. I heard screams of men, women, and children. I heard more explosions. I heard sounds that sounded as if they were straight from the pits of Hell itself.
The street fighting lasted for the rest of the day, and, due to the fires, deep into the night. In fact when i awoke the next morning i heard the sounds of battle all over the place. However they were MUCH closer to the inner walls than they had been yesterday. The risen were screaming their insane rage at every living thing around them, and killing that much as well.
At about mid-morning the first of the surviving units made it to the Julian Gate. We opened the gates for them. After that a small, but steady stream flowed into those gates. I had to dispatch my personal guards to keep order at the gates, and to watch for risen or things that attacked it while it was vulnerable.
After a while, i saw my cousin fighting a large group of undead. He and some of his men were slowly being pushed back towards the gate. The risen were threatening to overwhelm them. However they had come into range of the balistae of the inner wall, which promptly opened fire upon the ranks of risen. We had also managed to get our hands on a few catapults. Which opened fore as well. The large rocks and balistae bolts hit the risen hard, hard enough to force them back. However some of the pure blooded things saw what was happening and charged my cousin and his men. They went under after the second charge. However the balistae commander ordered his men to open fire upon the things. The withering fire forced them back. My guards managed to get my cousin within the inner walls. However he was bleeding profusely.
About ten minutes later we were forced to close the gates. Out of nearly 10000 men that were stationed upon the outer walls, less than 3000 made it to the inner wall.
However i have to go and pray now, so i must leave off once again.
Why noy just post the entire chapter at once?
Oh, and I've been meaning to tell you for some time:

Chapter Twenty Five: The Burning City (Part Four)
(From the Greek book:)
Later That Day
I WILL FINISH THIS NOW!!!! Ugh!
I'm sorry for my prattling but thing have just gotten so crazy today. The Royal Army, or what's left of it, is patrolling the burning ruins of the outer city for any remaining things, risen and demons. Ive been getting so many reports of riots, insanity, carnage, and chaos out there. Of course repairing the Church isn't going as well as i had hoped either. But i need to get back to the entry. I hope i have the time to finally finish it.
As we sealed the gates after getting my cousin in, we heard the sounds of fighting still going on outside the inner walls. Small groups of men tried their hardest to survive the hell below the walls. The gates crashing closed was a signal for the people outside to stop trying to get in and find a place to hide until it was all over. I watched groups of people go into the sewers, into unburned house and flats, and i even saw a small group go into a granary.
Wherever they went the demons and risen chased them. Blood, slaughter, and chaos were everywhere. I heard men scream, women being ripped apart, and other sounds that i cant even describe, nor do i want to.
It was near the end of the second day when the things had gathered enough of their forces back together that they were able to advance upon the Julian Gate. The balistae commanders opened up upon the ranks of things and risen. But the risen continued their advance, blocking many of the shots from touching their sickening masters. How we had boiling oils ready for them when they tried to breach the gate. And try they did. They surged towards the gates in wave after wave, only to be shot down, or set aflame by the oils.
This was not what the things wanted. For our defenses quickly consumed their ranks. The more that poured in, the more that died. It was then that the things leader, Bledda, came forward and roared in some evil, demonic language. It then got off of its horse and marched towards the gates. The balistae opened fire immediately. However before they could touch it, it said other sickening words, and the bolts bounced off of a bubble of fire that could only be seen when something hit it. We tried EVERYTHING to break it, balistae bolts, javelins, dead bodies, EVEN onrager rocks. NOTHING worked. It kept coming closer and closer. The waves of risen pulled back and out of its way. It came closer and closer.
It finally got to the gates. Then we dumped nearly all of the remaining boiling oils, large rocks, and javelins we had onto it. When the smoke cleared, we saw that we had not even touched it. It laughed a demonic laugh at us. Then it raised its hand, and began a vile chant. After nearly an HOUR of it doing this, with us throwing everything we had at it, it finished its chanting and put its hand to the gates. The gates exploded.
When they went down, it also blasted the troops behind the gates into the dust. Thankfully many of the men had the sense to get out of the way of the flying gates and subsequent fire blasts. However it was then that the risen POURED into the gates. Many of the men guarding the gates fought like mad dogs. However it was only a matter of time before they were overwhelmed by the mass of risen. The people in the streets fled screaming for the catacombs beneath the Hagia Sofia. I ordered my guards to protect the doors once we got in everyone that we could.
At this point i descended the stairs to the ground floor to try and organize the removal of my cousin from the monsters path. But Bledda came STRAIGHT for the Hagia Sofia. However when it tried to open the doors and found them locked it tried to attack the doors with its magics. Somehow its magics had no effects on the building. I silently prayed thanks to God. However it then became enraged and started grabbing risen, and, with inhuman strength, it began to fling them at the doors. After nearly five minutes of flinging risen at the doors they finally gave way. It then tried to walk into the Church. However the hands of God pushed it back. At this it became enraged, and barked a harsh cry. Then the power that had protected the Church shattered into a million shards of light which rained onto the floor. At this point i began to cry, a pleading desperation took a hold of me. I prayed as the thing approached. At that moment i thought that i was going to die.
It stepped around the light fragments, but it did not kill me. It didn't even seem to see me. It appeared to be hunting for something else instead.
But i must once again leave off for the pile of reports to sift through has grown too large for the priests whom are helping me with it.
Ch 25 pt4 finished. Next part WILL be the last one, and an epic climax:yes::beam::yes:
Chapter Twenty Five: The Burning City (Part Five)
(From the Greek book:)
That Evening
Well maybe now i might be able to finish this entry. Most of the work that i had to do was taken when the administration council showed up outside of the Hagia Sofia. So i have nearly three days to get this done.
When the thing, Bledda, blasted down the doors and the holy barrier on the Church it entered with an insane look on its face. As he walked through the doors, angry shards of light swirled all throughout the air. These shards passed through the innocent and normal people without effect. However the undead and lesser things could not enter the Church without being torn into tiny, blood soaked shreds. However, Bledda managed to keep them out with ease, using powerful black arts that i had never seen before and hope never to see again.
As it approached me, i froze. My mind kept telling me to run, but my legs would not move at all. It kept coming closer and closer, but i simply could not move. At that point i pray for God to forgive my soul and save me in the hereafter. However all it did was throw me out of the way. I hit a wall and almost broke my back. I also lost control of...other parts of my body. As it moved on i played dead until i was sure that it was gone.
However, as it continued down the nave towards the altar, it began to sniff, YES SNIFF, the air as it moved past me. It was as if it was hunting for something. It quickly passed through the main halls of the Church. It then beat the door into the catacombs below open using more of its black arts. As it descended into the stairs and rooms below i got up and followed, making VERY sure that i did not get too close. The screams... i can't even begin to describe the screams that i heard down there. The...bodies were utterly ripped to shreds, bits and pieces.
It finally stopped outside of the chamber where my cousin was being healed. It immediately killed all of the guards and then advanced upon my cousins sleeping form. The only one of the healers to stay behind was a VERY young Rune-Priest of the Germans. She was standing up to this...MONSTER with a fire in her eyes. It laughed at her and spoke to her in a language that i had never even heard before, and yet could understand.
"So little one", it said," you wish to defend this dog?" The little girl, she could NOT have been more than ten or eleven, said to this beast in the bravest tone i have ever heard someone take,"Foul one your time will soon end, as your brother before you, you WILL die!" At this the monster laughed and it said,"HA! Me? Dead? HAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!! The very idea of this amuses me. Let me explain to you how the world is going to work after i am done with it. You are all little curs, while i am a GOD!!!! You will bow before me and lick my boots if i so desire it. You will willing give yourselves to me and my warriors. I will dictate to ALL my will and wishes. And there will not be a thing that anyone can do about it." Then it started laughing again. The young priestess said to the monster,"You will see the folly of the madness that has consumed you filth!" She then started chanting a strange chant. It didn't seem evil or corrupt like the monster's did. It was a calming and soothing thing. The monster finished laughing and said to the young priestess, "And what is it that you are trying to do little one? Stop me?" She did not answer him but kept chanting. At this it got REALLY angry and said,"Well if you are then you won't succeed!"
It then said a few harsh words in the language that i didn't WANT to understand. And after it had said these words it brought its hand up to the little girl's face and blasted her into a wall, blowing away all of the defenses that the young priestess had set up. It then approached the sleeping form of my cousin and violently woke him.
"Now then dog",it said,"tell me who killed my brother and your death will be painless." My cousin was incredibly weak for his injuries but he still stood up to this thing and said,"And how the hell would i know this? Or better yet WHY would i tell you?!?" It looked at him ans simply said,"Wrong answer." Then it started to speak more of its horrid arts, and my cousin, whom was already incredibly weak began to scream and writhe in pain. Even though nothing was happening to him visibly i heard the sound of organs crunching and grinding. After nearly five minutes of this it said to my cousin,"Are you ready to tell me yet, dog?" My cousin couldn't speak at all by this point but to this monster i don't think it mattered. "No?",it said,"well that's far too bad for you little cur!" It then pulled out a red stone that was about the size of my cousins fist and chanted words that even though i couldn't understand made me retch. Thankfully this beast was far too absorbed by what he was doing to heard me. But honestly as i think about it now i wish he would have stopped for what happen next will haunt me forever until death. Something bright came up out of my cousin's body. The more that came out the paler he got. After a few seconds i realized that he was sucking my cousins soul out of him. At this i retched again. And then it all came out and my cousin died right there on his pallet. His soul however did not ascend, it instead flowed into this demons stone. He had been robbed of his soul's true reward. I began to cry. This time it heard me and turned around and spoke to me, "So little cur you miss your master? Well i think i can rectify your little 'problem' right now."
However as he advanced upon me i heard a soft but steady chant coming from behind him. The little Rune-Priestess had survived his onslaught and was still chanting her comforting chant. At least it was comforting to me. When the monster heard it, it immediately turned around with a look of pure pain on its face. It roared like the pits of Hell itself and advance upon the little priestess with balls of black flames pouring out of its hands. The little priestess did not flee nor falter in her chanting. The closer it got to the young one the more and more pain it felt. Also the flesh on its body began to warp and twist and ripple as if it was not attached anymore. Silently i prayed for this little girl to succeed. As she continued chanting the monster warped more and more. As it approached within striking distance of the young one suddenly it was hurtled back by a wall of light so bright it though the Sun itself had descended upon us. As it got up it was buffered by winds and flying light shards. This was underground by the way. I though that the little girl was winning. However the monster began to throw black flames at the young one. As they approached the little girl, they were lashed away by the winds and light shards.
Then the thing roared so loud i thought my head would explode from the sound of it. Then its flesh dissolved away from its body into a puddle around its feet. What was left behind was a DEMON! It had scaly skin, three horns on its head, one on each temple and one on is upper forehead. It had one eye in the center of its face that burned black. Starting from above its eye to below its eye there was a long scar that glowed an evil black-red. It had large fangs in its mouth and three arms, complete with claws, two where they "should" have been and coming out of its back. Out of the two side arms came leathery skin-flaps, like bats wings but far too small to be used as such. At he base of its spine was a long scaly tail that beat the ground in rage beneath it. It legs had claws and positions of those that a lizard would have, except MUCH larger.
When it saw itself it screamed in rage. And when it roared at the young priestess it spoke in a MUCH deeper tone,"YOU BITCH!!! HOW DARE YOU EXPOSE WHAT I DO NOT WANT EXPOSED!!! YOU WILL DIE FOR THIS!!!" Then i heard another voice, that of a woman, that was probably the most beautiful that i have ever heard,"NO!! You will die here and now!" Suddenly a huge blast of pure white light hit the beast from behind. I turned at about the same time as he did. I saw an angel standing there. She had beautiful white wings that radiated pure white light. She also had a feathery tail. She was dressed in a simple white cloak with the cowl up. She had beautiful blue eye that were made like those of a hawk. And she had very long blond hair.
She had her hand pointing towards the demon. She said to the thing,"So you wish to make someone pay for your pitiful misfortune? Well try your luck on me bastard!" At that She summoned a great sword that glowed white from thin air. The demon pulled two lesser sword that were stained black using the same technique. Then they started fighting, she hurling shards of light, white fireballs at the monster and swinging her great sword at it, trying to pin it down. And the monster doing much the same with its techniques of darkness and death. As they began to move around the chamber, i moved out towards the little priestess. I got to her as a ball of black fire hurtled at her and scooped her up. By this point she had fallen unconscious due to the extreme effort that she had put into the revelation art that she had used to unmask the monster for what he really was. I quickly got her out of the chamber and began to head for the surface, thinking that the battle might bring the catacombs crashing down. As i got back into the naive of the Hagia Sofia i heard the sound of battle outside the Church as well it seemed as if the battle had reached a stalemate. I then saw several survivors that had taken shelter with the naive of the church and ordered them to come and help me with the young priestess. At first they did not recognize me but when they did they came running over to help. They were terribly frightened of what was happening but i calmed them and told them that God had sent us help. As we moved behind the altar we also heard the sounds of the battle beneath the church rise higher and then the trapdoor that opened into the catacombs was blasted open by dark arts.
((Due to MASSIVE post size i need to break this apart))
((Continued from last post))
Several of the maids screamed as the monster appeared from the bottom of the catacombs. It turned to see us and began advancing. However then the angel appeared from below as well blasting it away from us. The monster roared but ducked as the angel's great sword came whirling around to cleave its head off. The mass of light shards that were whirling around also got a LOT more strength from the angel. They began to seriously affect the demon. It hurtled black fire all around itself in an attempt to halt their advance upon it. This attempt failed utterly. It then blasted the doors of the Hagia Sofia open and fled out into the street, destroying a whole cohort of Roman troops in front of it in the process. At the sight of it, all of the other things and monsters gained power and strength. In a rage they hurtled forward into our lines.
However it was then that the angel appeared outside of the Church. As she hurtled he shards at the demon once again, it grabbed all of the creatures around it, including some of its own warriors, and consumed their souls. Using this power it created a whirlwind of pure blackness and hatred, which of course VERY effectively blocked the light shards. However as the two supreme forces began their titanic duel, i heard the sounds of fighting behind me diminish. I turned and saw EVERY single German barbaroi had turned his or her head to look at the clash, and many had stopped fighting, something that Germans NEVER EVER do. I was amazed, but before long they got right back into the fighting, and they upped the pace by about, well A LOT! They charged the ranks of the risen and slave soldiers and hurtled them back, nearly to the gates before the minor demons stopped them. Using their dark enchanter powers they stopped the Germans from flinging the thing's ranks back through the gates. However the fighting got even more fierce and chaotic.
Atop the walls the angel and demon were fighting with everything they had, the demon still attempting to beat its way through the angels defense, and the angels attempting to entrap the thing with her white arts, so she could destroy it. Explosions were raining from the walls into the ranks of men below, chaos ensued as both sides fled before the furious rain of death, As a result the Germans managed to push the things back through the remnants of the Julian Gate. However it proved nearly impossible to approach the fight between the two greater beings upon the wall. The black whirlwind was still stopping the angel from effectively severing the demons head off. As the fighting, more and more of the city around them was destroyed.
Finally the demon made the mistake of moving too slow next to the other edge of the wall. As the angels great sword hit his black whirlwind, it dug into the whirlwind and flung the demon from the inner wall using it to her advantage. As the demon fell into the burning part of the city, the Germans surged forward and sealed the Julian Gate. However as they tried to proceed into the outer city the minor demons and risen began to attack them fiercely, preventing them from emerging.
As i followed this action, i wound up in one of the towers of the inner wall. I saw the burning city below me, i saw the Greek citizens that had been hiding in the underground spaces of the city emerge to fight the risen, for they had run out of air and other supplies. The soldiers that had not made it to the Julian Gate before it closed and had not died, emerged with them. This threw the things' ranks into utter chaos. As the militias attacked from behind and below, the main army, or what was left of it at that point, charged forward, hitting the things' lines and forcing them back into the burning city. The greatest action, however, was between the angel and demon.
As she attempted to break the black whirlwind off of the demon, she continued to hurl attacks at it while it danced around them like they were nothing, and simultaneously blasted black fire back at her.
((Once again another post is needed for this HUGE chapter))
You surely have a lively fanatsy Olaf:idea2:
Fanatasy?
So your saying im a fantasy fanatic?
Well while this may or may not be true i dont think thats the main issue right now:laugh4:
What a minute: stating that you have a lively fantasy ergo you seemingly can't run out of ideas has nothing to do with beign you a fantasy fanatic (I don't think you are fanatic). I actulally meant it to be a praise but ir looks like I didn't tell that clearly.:wall:
Hope its cleared up now:embarassed:
((Continued from the last post))
As the fires raged and the battles grew bigger, they also got more and more chaotic. The lesser demons and slaves of the things' armies began to topple whole buildings upon groups of our men. This threw our lines into chaos. However the enemy were in much the same state. The things lines were in a total state of confusion as well. The militia were carving the unprepared things to pieces. However there was no real order to the fighting. Everywhere it was men, lesser demons and things fighting each other.
However the main action was with the Demon and Angel. As the angel tried to get a hold of her foe, the demon continued to dodge her blows and fire black flames at her. Building collapsed all around them, chaos erupted from the ground beneath them, explosions occurred above them. But they stayed focused upon each other.
What finally ended the stalemate was the fact that the demon happened to wander to close to a few explosions, knocking him senseless for a few seconds. This was all that the angel needed. Her great sword began to glow golden-white. She swung and hit his black whirlwind. However instead of bouncing off or passing through it, the sword got stuck within it. She probably wanted this to happen for she twirled her wrists and ripped the black wind off of the demon. As this happened, the demon was flung through a few buildings as well. It got stuck under the last one which collapsed upon it. The angel then approached the demon.
At that point i cant remember anything else because i have been told that i got hit. The demon was struggling to get out from under the fallen building. However the angel approached it too quickly for it to be able to get away. So it used a HUGE amount of power to fire one massive black chaos blast at the angel to delay her or kill her. However the angel managed to parry it easily, with her great glowing sword. However it headed for the tower that i and several other people were hiding in. We all tried to flee but apparently i wasn't fast enough and took a direct hit. I also fell through the hole that had been left in the battlements, towards the pavement below. Apparently i was saved from death because i landed on top of a soldier, whom broke my fall and saved my life. I almost killed the poor man i have been told. But he has recovered and i have added him to my guards.
But i digress. After the demon had fired his last big black blot at the angel, she had taken him and torn his red stone off. At that point the demon nearly went berserk and tried to gather up as much energy as he could in order to kill her. However she split his red stone on her sword. As soon as it broke open, the souls of all of those that the demon had slain poured out and attacked the demon.
What happened next no one would tell me in full, but the general consensus was that the souls ripped him apart. The screams, i am told, were sickening. And it lasted for quite a while. However as the demon was torn to pieces so was its army. The risen dissolved the minor demons melted, and the living slave warriors fled into the midst of the burning city. The burning sky also exploded and finally cleared, or so everyone tells me.
However at this point, as far as i have gathered, i was in really big trouble. The demon's final bolt had poisoned me. My blood was blackened, i had lost any trace of sanity and was screaming like a demon would. In my crazed state i killed two men before they got control of me. They brought me into the church, then tied me down and began a ritual of Exorcism upon me. It took them three days to rid me of the poison. When i finally woke up however the first thing i saw was the little Rune Priestess that had summoned the angel to our aid. She calmly explained what had happened.
As we rebuild the city and restore order, the rain has returned, as has sanity to the minds of the people. There are still a few rebel bands out there, and the eastern provinces are still in chaos due to the amount of troops we withdrew from the area, but i am confident that we shall soon restore order.
Chapter Twenty Six: Revival
(From the Runic book:)
Winter 382AD
There is great news from Greece. The second great demon has been destroyed, his army is shattered. As the Greek rebuild their Arche, the free steppe tribesmen prepare to reclaim their brethren, ancestral lands, and freedom. We have already given them many weeks worth of food, plenty of weapons and many horses. We will also be accompanying them during the campaign with some of our finest warriors to aid them in their fight.
The High Queen is doing as well as can be expected for a ten year old. She learns quickly, and tries her hardest to make the right choices. Her regent is doing a fine job, so there is not very much to worry about at the moment.
The warriors, elves and the free tribesmen are read to go and fight. It seems that the High Queen has requested to go along, and for some incredibly strange reason, the Regent has approved. I shall have to talk with him about this when we return.
(From the Greek book:)
Winter 382AD
As we have cleaned up the city, we are closer and closer to restoring the Arche Byzantiou to what it was before the things showed up. The rebellions and peasant riots in Greece have been put down. But the northern reaches of Mikra Asia have yet to submit to our rule as is proper. We have to send the armies there next. We are also going to reclaim the lands of Syria from the Langobardi and the Persians.
In news closer to home, it appears that im the only member of my family to have survived the invasion of the things' armies. Therefore many high ranking generals and politicians are vying for my hand in marriage, for a woman cannot take the throne. I have tried but no one would give the me the support i would need to take the reigns of the Arche. This doesn't mean im going quietly, mind you. I will pick my husband, that much no one can deny me.
But for now i must go for i am required at court.
Chapter Twenty Seven: In Victory...
(From the Runic Book:)
Summer 385AD
It has taken three winters of fighting, drinking, and marching, (mostly marching), to free the homeland of the Polish tribes from the iron grip of the Hunnic Empire. With the defeat of the Demon Brothers, there has been a civil war that has erupted within the Empire, it was split into five pieces. The four sons of Attila taking four pieces, and the daughter of Bledda taking the largest piece. The Son in charge of the Polish territoires was a demon named Urugus. He was a complete fool, for he got into two different wars with his brothers that controlled the Baltic lands and the Outer Steppes. This of course left Poland WIDE open. We immediately assaulted the western borders. All that we found there were undead slaves, which were blown aside with incredible ease.
The Polish lands are a rather poor country, in all of them there are only two great towns, Warzwoz, and Crazkowz, the former being nearly completely indefensible, being there only due to its important position of the trade routes of amber and furs. Needless to say we got there with good speed. The town was under defended to say the least, there weren't even any Hunnic cavalry to defend the little town. We took it in a matter of days.
https://i477.photobucket.com/albums/...2-11-10-99.jpg
Crazkowz was a different matter, there was a significantly larger number of Huns there the first time we attacked it, however when we arrived most of them had run off to their lords war in the east. So it was another easy victory.
https://i477.photobucket.com/albums/...2-21-57-28.jpg
However when Urugus heard of the towns being taken he immediately ran to defend his assets. All that he had left to fight us with were his pure blooded Hunnic horsemen. It was a viscous battle that the Polish armies lost with brutal chaos. As a result he re-invaded a now hostile Poland. It was two years of raiding and counter-raiding, but in the end he was killed, and his army's remnants fled to another one of the Hunnic lords. As a result There is now a friendly Kingdom of Poland guarding our eastern borders. This has freed up a LARGE portion of the men that were tied down fighting these demons, to gather the harvests once more. A large crop has finally removed the last traces of famine and plague from our lands.
The High Queen has learned much from this excursion. She has seen the ways of war for herself. She has also become very good with a bow, and is learning how to use and axe to cleave a man in half. She still wants to stay with our armies on campaign, while i protest this the Regent still gives his blessing to it, so there is nothing i can do.
We are now in preparation to invade the Baltic lands and reclaim them for our Baltic friends.
Chapter Twenty Eight:.....and Defeat(Part One)
(From the Greek Book:)
Summer 383AD
As i receive reports from all over the Arche the news is not nearly as good as i would hope. While all of the revolts within Greece have capitulated, the Pontic Territories have flung themselves into full open revolt. Armies that are supplied by the Armenians and Sassanids have taken Sinope and Trapzoeus. They have declared the area to be the Kingdom of Pontos. One of the generals in that area, i believe his name is Theodosius, is a claimant for my hand in marriage. He has decided to invade the area to reclaim it as a wedding present for me. As i have never met the man i can only wish him luck.
At the moment the highest claimants to the throne are Maximian, the general whom lead my brothers guard before he died, Heraclitus, the captain of my cousins guard before he was killed, and Timothy the son of the High Bishop of Konstantinopolis. Each of these men have tried to murder the others in order to get enough support to win my hand. All attempts have failed. There have been, as a result, several other "competitions" for my hand and the crown. This included a bet at the races, where one of them bet on the Reds to win my hand. This resulted in massive riots all over the city after it was discovered. Of course the betting suitor was beheaded. I'm pretty sure that this will not end well at all.
Winter 383AD
As reports come in from the front, it appears that General Theodosius has had some great success against the Pontics. He met a General of the Pontic king at one of the few passes into the lands of Pontos. As he charged headlong into the pass, the Pontics deployed at the top of the pass.
https://i477.photobucket.com/albums/...2-26-22-86.jpg
They quickly destroyed the light Pontic infantry.
https://i477.photobucket.com/albums/...2-27-39-99.jpg
But the cavalry of the Pontics had received armor and aid from other Eastern nations. They menaced and crippled several infantry units before our Kilbinnarii could arrive and aid them.
https://i477.photobucket.com/albums/...2-28-38-58.jpg
This turn of events led to General Theodosius needing to retreat to regain reinforcements.
https://i477.photobucket.com/albums/...2-30-47-30.jpg
However our cavalry had crushed many more Pontic soldiers than we had lost. The Pontic general could not hold the pass as a result, and has retreated towards the city of Amasis, capital of Pontos. Theodosius has already retaken the pass and, as soon as the reinforcement get there, he assures me that he will march on Amasis. This has driven his standing in the contest for my hand all the higher. The other suitors have become increasingly worried.
But in all honesty im sick of being treated as a prize. I have already made my choice. His name is Patrestoles. He is a childhood friend of mine that has stuck with me through thick and thin. However he doesn't have enough support from any of the factions within this damned city to take my hand like i have dreamed of him doing. With murders and poisons on the table in this contest its only a matter of time before one of the parties breaks.
Ok before i post the next chapter does anyone have any questions or ideas?
At least for the 2 ppl that read this?
I would have a question: is any of the "suitors" based on a historical figure?
Oh yeah and: are the Huns dead for good or could they still resist the "invading Barbarian hordes of the west"? And who is the idiot the last High king named regent? That "high qeen" of theres really seems to be looking for an arrow with her name on it :skull: - bring it on (evil :laugh4::laugh4:)
Now really Olaf this story of yours is getting some fresh flavor - keep it going. I like it and I quess many others do:2thumbsup:
So how old is the German guy now? 70? More?
@ Hungeneral:No none of the suitors are based on historical figures. They are just targets for my insanity.:laugh4:
As for the Huns you will just have to see, but the finale of this act will be insane. And as for the West invasions, that was EPIC twisting of history if you didnt realise that.
As for whom named the Regent guy, it was a compromise between the Frankz, Silengoz, Makromannoz, and the Royal tribe. This helped avoid a civil war. As for the High Queen looking for an arrow with her name on it, well thats youth for you:laugh4::laugh4::laugh4:
@desert: He was 21 when this started so hes about 43-44 now.
Chapter Twenty Eight:.. and Defeat (Part Two)
(From the Greek book:)
Summer 384AD
Well one of the competitors for my hand is officially out of the way. The idiotic general got himself killed.
As he marched upon the city of Amasis, he battered aside several ambushes with the heavy Klibinarii that he had. However when he reached the city it was fully garrisoned. Due to his slowness the Pontics were able to rally a large force to halt Theodosius. To him this obviously did not matter because he built siege weapons and prepared to assault the walls.
https://i477.photobucket.com/albums/...2-37-40-17.jpg
After about two weeks of building his weapons were ready. He immediately charged his infantry onto the walls. The rams was burned but the other weapons made it onto the walls. The fighting was brutal. And for our infantry at least it wasn't going so well. There simply were too many of them to take down.
However at this point the enemy prince, the heir to the throne, being a foolish boy decided to charge out of the gates at our horsemen.
https://i477.photobucket.com/albums/...2-41-04-21.jpg
Seeing his chance for victory and ultimately Empire, the fool charged ALL of the remaining forces towards the emerging prince. The prince, being at heart an overconfident idiot, almost met that charge, but several of the guards persuaded his to retreat. It took the prince nearly a minute to agree. Our cavalry had gotten really close to him by that point but he made it back in time for the gates to seal shut on our cavalrymen.
https://i477.photobucket.com/albums/...2-41-29-40.jpg
As soon as it sealed, the rain of balistae bolts began. The screams, i have been told, were horrific. We lost all of the remaining infantry as well as a third of the cavalry.
https://i477.photobucket.com/albums/...2-42-08-60.jpg
Theodosius fled the walls, seeing his chance the enemy prince took almost all of the cities forces to chase him.The rest of the infantry on the walls was abandoned to slaughter.
As he fled east he was trying to reach the pass out of Pontos, with the enemy prince hot on his heels. However the King of Pontos had rigged the pass to collapse, and had men stationed around it. Caught between the King and his son, Theodosius charged blatantly, attempting to crush the Pontics.
https://i477.photobucket.com/albums/...2-54-56-73.jpg
Needless to say it didn't work at all.
https://i477.photobucket.com/albums/...2-57-21-37.jpg
Almost all of our cavalry died near that pass.
https://i477.photobucket.com/albums/...2-29-16-63.jpg
As for Theodosius, he was killed during the charge up into the pass.
What lived fled as fast as they could. As they were not interested in conquest the Pontics have accepted a peace treaty so that they are now an independent kingdom.
As for the other "contestants" they have fallen to squabbling amongst themselves like idiots. There is a threat of open civil war in order to decide the issue. I am managing the situation as best as i can, but its getting harder and harder by the day.
But i must leave off for now, for there is business to attend to.
Ok, Act II began in 354 AD, so he is 51 years old, or thereabouts. For some reason, I thought 50 years had passed since the beginning. :sweatdrop:
opps:embarassed::embarassed::embarassed:
Im really starting to lose the plot.:shame::sweatdrop::shame:
I is HAPPY right now. I just got IBFD to work on my comp. :beam::beam::beam::beam::beam::beam::beam::beam::beam::beam:
So as soon as is possible i will be transferring this AAR/fantasy story into it.
A quick question though. Do the EB and IBFD teams have ANYTHING to do with each other? Cuz this mod is ******* 1337!!!!!!!
Is it me or did you change your avatar recently?
Unless someone HAXXORED my account no.
Chapter Twenty Nine: Demon's Blood
(From the Runic book:)
Winter 385AD
As i write these words there is news from the lands of the Balts. They have managed to win a major victory and killed Attila's son Gurekes.
The battle was short but very fierce. The two sides met within a wooded area. The leader of the free Baltic forces, Vyaidslais, decided to attack the Huns as fast as possible. So he went to the head of his line and roared insults at Gurekes.
https://i477.photobucket.com/albums/...1-52-19-16.jpg
This caused Gurekes to make a rash charge against Vyaidslais. His whole army surged forward to attack the our allied general. When the two forces met the clash was brutal.
https://i477.photobucket.com/albums/...1-53-28-66.jpg
It looked as if Vyaidslais would be slain. However some more of the Baltic cavalry attacked the Huns from the flank at that point.
https://i477.photobucket.com/albums/...1-53-03-64.jpg
When the Huns tried to flee and regroup they ran headlong into a wall of Baltic heavy spearmen. The other points of the battle didn't look so good for them either. The pitiful risen and slave infantry could barley stand up to the ridiculously superior Baltic infantry.
It was at this point that Gurekes was slain.
https://i477.photobucket.com/albums/...1-57-18-69.jpg
The remains of the Hunnic army fled for their lives. The day belonged to the Balts.
https://i477.photobucket.com/albums/...1-57-29-62.jpg
As of the message they have retaken the major villages and freed all of their tribesmen from Hunnic slavery. They are attempting to set up a Baltic kingdom, however none of the major tribes can agree on anything, so i have to go and moderate negotiations.
Also please note that over the next few days or so im gonna be putting pics that are not maps or screens in here to enhance the story. I would like to note to EVERYONE that i cannot draw at all and therefore none of these pics are mine. I have gathered them from all over the internet. And i think that they will help the story out alot.
Chapter Thirty: Demon's Bane
(From the Runic book:)
Summer 386AD
As i write these words, all i see stretched out before me is grasslands. They seem to go on and on, forever and ever. Nothing but grass, and more grass. There are no hills few trees and fewer rivers.
https://i477.photobucket.com/albums/...6b13b953c9.jpg
I can see how the Huns became kings out here, this terrain is practically MADE for horsemen and centaurs. Luckily our allies are exactly that, horsemen and centaurs. However there have been reports that the two remaining sons of Attila, Tukheckjen and Emnetzur have allied to stop our invasion of their steppe lands.
There will be a battle soon, and our Queen wants to take a firsthand experience in it. She simply will not understand that she cannot go wandering into an situation that she wants anymore, because it will kill not only her, but the bloodline of the Royal Tribe forever. And there have been attempts, such as ten night ago when one of my servants was poisoned tasting our food. The food he partook of was for the Queen alone. As a result i have tripled her guards. But i guess such things cant be helped. I try and remember if i was this stupid when i was younger.
However i have more important things to do now, like organize an army for war, out on these grasses.
((At this point the handwriting changes in our Runic book.))
Three weeks later
(Tear stains dot these pages)
My name is Mezthenalza, and i am the High Queen of the German people. I have come into possession of this codex due to my former mentor's ... death. Aioufulz was a brave, brave man. He fought to the death to defend his people.
However i get ahead of myself. Two days ago we fought in a great battle against the Hunnic forces that had held the steppe for nearly 50 winters. The two remaining sons of Attila the Demon had gathered their "men" to stop us.
https://i477.photobucket.com/albums/...0-34-44-24.jpg
They were full of undead, demons and many enslaved tribes as well.
I had snuck into a group of Elven archers so that i could take part in this great battle. I cant believe that i was so excited, looking back at it now. We had taken the far left of our combined armies flank. Our centaur allies held the center, waiting to burst through the center weak spot that the Alans and my Germans were to create.
https://i477.photobucket.com/albums/...0-33-38-46.jpg
While the Alans were on the far right, ready to hammer away at the demons.
https://i477.photobucket.com/albums/...0-33-53-28.jpg
As the battle began we surged forward, for Aioufulz didn't want the Hunnic horsebows to come into play and devastate our mostly infantry army.
https://i477.photobucket.com/albums/...0-36-01-26.jpg
What cavalry we had charged to the left of our flank to halt a flanking attempt by several groups of Horsebows. The fighting was fierce, and the screams were...brutal. This was when i realized that war was not all the glorious stories that i had heard as a child, that it was a sickening thing. However it seemed to be going well for us at the moment. Our brave men had hit the front ranks of the undead and slave foot soldiers, and the cavalry was tied up in a losing battle against our spearmen. I was with the archers in the back firing arrows into the rear ranks of the Huns.
It was then that things took an insane turn for the worse. Suddenly a HUGE group of very heavy Hunnic cavalry burst forth from the trees off to our line's right. They shattered much of our line right then and there. And then several groups of them attacked the archers. It was..insane. Their horses were so powerful that they knocked back nearly a full line of our men before their momentum halted.
https://i477.photobucket.com/albums/...0-37-32-85.jpg
They still killed WAY too many of us. We turned to flee. The Eleven High Guards stayed and fought to the last. That bought us time to get away. However any hope of regrouping was suddenly shattered, when Aioufulz was flung from his horse and killed.
https://i477.photobucket.com/albums/...0-37-51-21.jpg
The whole army turned tail and ran, scattering like rabbits, while normally i would call them cowards for running, in this instance i could see exactly why they fled. These Huns were unstoppable demons. However it was at this point that some of the centaur came bursting from the woods to save our collapsing line.
https://i477.photobucket.com/albums/...0-38-34-76.jpg
They drew off the Huns long enough for a fraction of our men to regroup. However it was then that the Hunnic warlord Tukheckjen turned the attention of his bodyguards on our regrouped forces. The spearmen that we had formed a shield wheel, and the remaining archers regrouped behind it. While we did managed to kill many of his bodyguards another band of Huns came to his aid. He broke our men like butter at that point. Our group split up. I was with the men that went right. The ones that went left, well they weren't so lucky.
https://i477.photobucket.com/albums/...0-39-54-95.jpg
At that point our army was out of the battle for good.
https://i477.photobucket.com/albums/...0-41-07-33.jpg
It was left up to the centaur and Alans to finish this sick day. The group i was with tried to flee back to the camp were fresh warriors would be waiting. However we were cut off by several Hunnic bands. So we retreated into the deepest part of the small forest that was on the battlefield. As we regrouped i revealed who i was to the men that had made it. I was immediately put in charge of the remnants of our army. I told them that we needed to wait before trying to escape these woods, for it was here that the Huns didn't have their advantage in horsemanship. They agreed that that was the smartest moved we could make.
However i heard the sounds of battle all around us. To the right we heard the cries of death and pain in the demonic language that the Huns use. A man that i sent out came back and told us that the Alans and centaurs had completely crushed the Hunnic left flank, and even killed the warlord Emnentzur.
https://i477.photobucket.com/albums/...0-41-17-58.jpg
https://i477.photobucket.com/albums/...0-41-36-41.jpg
He had heard the news from some of the centaur women that were fighting. They had also offered to distract the Huns as we fled for the part of the field controlled by the Alans. We gladly agreed.
As we fled south,
https://i477.photobucket.com/albums/...0-46-10-79.jpg
the centaurs proved an excellent distraction.
https://i477.photobucket.com/albums/...0-42-20-62.jpg
In fact the battle seemed to be building once again. As many of the Alans and centaurs had regrouped and turned to take on the remaining Huns on the field.
https://i477.photobucket.com/albums/...0-42-14-38.jpg
https://i477.photobucket.com/albums/...0-43-19-46.jpg
However the Huns were far from done. In fact one of the centaur groups got too close to the Huns and were crushed in short order. As they finished the centaurs off the Huns simply regrouped and moved on to another part of the battle.
https://i477.photobucket.com/albums/...0-45-01-03.jpg
However it was then that another group spotted the Hunnic warlord Tukheckjen and his remaining bodyguards along with some undead slaves.
https://i477.photobucket.com/albums/...0-49-36-14.jpg
He was using a demon to raise OUR fallen warriors to fight for him.
https://i477.photobucket.com/albums/...0-46-53-33.jpg
OUR WARRIORS!!! However by revealing his position so obviously he made a tactical error. And soon the centaur had him surrounded.
https://i477.photobucket.com/albums/...0-47-53-12.jpg
He fled out of the trap via a series of large boulders that provided him the best cover. However nothing could prevent his death at the hands of the enraged centaur. They started firing thousands of arrows towards him. The bastards end came when his horse was killed by three of the arrows and he was flung from its back, and busted his skull open on the ground.
https://i477.photobucket.com/albums/...0-53-06-05.jpg
The battle was won, but at an enormous cost.

Out of nearly 11000 warriors that we had brought to the battle barley 1500 had survived, and many of them had been driven insane. The centaur lost nearly 3500 of their warriors, but these losses were easily replaced by the freed centaur from the Hunnic lands. The Alans had suffered the least, with barley 2200 men gone. The Huns were nearly totally destroyed by this battle. Our efforts in this war have come to an end due to this battle. We have helped the steppe peoples as much as we can, the rest is up to them.
Bt now i must leave for i have a funeral to attend to.
Good stuff Did you mod EB to get the hun faction? I particulary like the Virgin Archers :)
Chapter Thirty One: Sacred Bloodstorm (Part One)
(From the Runic book:)
Autumn 386AD
As i write these words i am in the Polish fortress of Crazkowz, returning home to Germania to fully take the responsibility of the Throne. The remnants of our army is my escort home. I have been in this town for nearly a week waiting for the rain to let up so that we can continue on our way, for id like to get home BEFORE the snows come.
But as i sit here there is excellent news from the steppes, the Huns are on their knees, the only remaining leader is the daughter of Bledda the Demon, we have learned her name is Tehajuka. This bitch will not last very long with most of her people destroyed and in disarray. But there are reports that she is gathering her forces for the final battle. Every one of the free tribes, Poles, Balts, Slavs, Alans, centaurs, and even the Cromars are sending warriors to this great battle. I can only pray for their victory to Odin and the High Gods.
I have other things to tell of as well. Yesterday an assassin almost killed me. He was standing on a rooftop whilst i was riding a horse below, going to the barracks where my troops were stationed for the evening. He had a bow pointed at my head. However a crow startled him and he shot his bow and killed my horse. As i was flung from my horse, my guards surged around me. At that point, i guess the assassin knew this wasn't going anywhere so he took off running across the rooftops. We never managed to catch him. All that we had was the arrow that he shot at me with, and we cant tell who made it.
This turn of events show that loyalty only last as long as greater threats do, it seems.
Ah well, i have to go now for my commanders have received another report from the steppes.
Chapter Thirty One: Sacred Bloodstorm (Part Two)

Spring 387AD
I arrived at the capital three weeks ago. The Franx regent, Juzarlez, has finally stepped aside, more or less. He didnt seem happy to give it up but he saw sense and did so. I must say that ruling a nation is a lot harder than i was ever told. This also includes this stupid pressure to get married to a man immediately. Almost everyday i have to refuse suitors left and right. Most of them are from noble German families, and my advisers tell me that i will have to do this at some point.
There is news from the east as well. The Huns are finally destroyed.
https://i477.photobucket.com/albums/...0-49-21-39.jpg
With the destruction of her army the bitch decided to try and take on the remains of the allied army herself. While she was a powerful demon, she was nowhere NEAR as strong as her father was. Killed in quick order by the enraged centaur, her people have been removed at last from the face of this world. Now we can sleep in peace at night once again. Even the heavens celebrated their destruction, for a great star had appeared in the night sky for a few nights. The world is once again at peace, and for that i am truly thankful. Those monsters killed my entire family, and even took my best friends from me as well. But now my family is avenged.
But still there are plots within plots. Just yesterday there was another assassination attempt uncovered, there was poison slipped into my food. This is starting to scare me. You would think that bringing peace back to the world would enamor me with the people in this time of renewal and rebuilding. But i guess that some things never change. I have my agents hunting for these men trying to kill me but they have had no successes to report so far. I can only hope that they find SOMETHING!
But i must leave off for now, for more people have needs of my services.
Squadallah! We are off! :laugh4:
Nice how the events developed. I must say this AAR of yours is getting better by every great event.

Chapter Thirty Two: The Game
(From the Greek book:)
Summer 387AD
Well it has finally happened. The Churches' candidate, Timothy has been found dead i his quarters within the Hagia Sofia. It does "appear" to be a natural death, but then again i had the body examined and found scars in hidden places. This can only mean it was a well done murder. At this i wouldn't be surprised to see a civil war within this city to win me as the ultimate prize.
I have been doing a lot of thinking about this. If it comes down to it i may have to kill the other candidates using my guards and what friends i have. If this is found out however i would be immediately deposed by the traditionalists and probably killed. However i have waited for as LONG as i possibly can. I refuse to be the pet plaything of some bastard child that has no more right to the throne than a pig does. Im sure that Patrestoles would make an excellent emperor, and i would be there to guide him. However i simply cant get the other powers in this city to agree with that statement.
(From the Runic Book:)
Autumn 387AD
Well as i write these words the final treaty of the steppe peoples is going into effect. They have formed a MASSIVE confederation of tribes all along the steppes and including Poland as well. This is simply a council called together for the defense of all of the member tribes lands at once, from threats from the far areas of the steppes. I can only hope that in doing this they also can shield the rest of Europe from the invasions of these said steppe peoples, for if ANYTHING like the Huns were to ever hit Europe again i dont think we could survive it.
I have also received news from my agents. The assassins that have hunted me for nearly a year have been captured at last. Two of the bastards managed to kill themselves, but my men got their hands on the third one while he was still alive. We have been questioning him for nearly two days but he refuses to tell us whom his paymaster is. As soon as i finish with other affairs today, i shall have a court Rune-Priest brought to his chamber to get the truth out of him one way or another.
Another issue has been brought to my attention over the past weeks as well. That of my husband and future children. Several candidates have been lined up for me, the most prominent of those being my former regent, the Jarl of the Franx, Juzarlez. I have never really liked the man, he has been far too selfish and even at times paranoid. He always has this look on his face as if he is about to kill someone, or at least maim them, And he is always angry. However he is the courts favorite and that brings him to my attention more often than most.
I have also payed homage to the Great Crystal of the White Lady. She has always been a model to me as to what i should aspire to be. And with her spirits appearances in Constantinople and on the Rhine i can only hope that she is still with us and will continue to protect us as we move forward in this world.
And finally i have commissioned a portrait of myself to be added to those within the Great Hall. However the artist that i commissioned was a Roman, so he had a floor mosaic done.
https://i477.photobucket.com/albums/..._gotgituey.jpg
Personally i think it looks gaudy and too revealing but he is a Roman after all.
But i must leave off for now for i need to get back to seeing supplicants.
Hang those powers in the city. go olaf :2thumbsup:
swiss if i had her do that the hyper conservatives in the army/populace would revolt and overthrow her. this of course = NOT good.
Chapter Thirty Three: Poisonous Wrath
(From the Greek book:)
Winter 387AD
Ok this is the LAST straw for me. Yesterday there was a riot over whether the Reds cheated in the chariot race and beat out the Whites using this method. During the riots Maximian had his assassins go on a killing spree. They killed three other minor claimants to my hand. They also tried to kill Patrestoles and almost succeeded. Had it not been for the rioters going to the Hagia Sofia at the point that they did, to bring the Patriarch into the fray the assassin would have had time to finish his work. I sit with him now, as he is barely breathing at all.
At this point i am trying to come up with something that will end this once and for all. So far all that i can come up with is stuff that will get me deposed or overthrown, so im still working on it. One idea that i have been entertaining for a while now is hosting a grand ball where i have both of them poisoned, however this is far too obvious for i will be spotted and then deposed. If only i could figure out a way to deflect attention away from myself then it would be perfect. Ah well ill figure something out. Im NOT one of those pretty dress-up play toys that many of the other court women around here are. And with this act i shall prove that, once and for all.
(From the Runic book:)
Autumn 387AD
Well it seems that my men have uncovered the one behind the attacks against me. It appears that my former regent had more Royal ambitions than i previously thought. That's probably the reason that he allowed me to go to the battlefields of the Huns, in an attempts to get me killed. And when i wasnt killed he tried to have me killed and frame the remaining Huns for it. But now i have had his plot uncovered. Tomorrow i will confront him with this knowledge and have him arrested for it. I can only hope that it go down so smoothly.
