I'm honestly not comfortable with importing anything into the game from another server. It seems to defeat the purpose of starting a server from scratch and building a world from nothing.

And that's what I did but wasn't about to spend hours on a project without having a copy.
My PC died on Tuesday, so I'm currently trying to source the parts for a new one. Hopefully be back on the server next week.
And I most certainly not a lady! :laugh4:
Some significant public works were done yesterday. First, we located a Nether Fortress and built a very basic road to it to guide other players. It can be accessed through either Tiaexz's portal or my own. Just follow the cobblestone to the fortress. Please do not destroy the Blaze spawners! Blazes do not spawn outside of Nether Fortresses, so that's our source of blaze rods. Also, be aware that the road is not safe, go at your own peril. We have also located a stronghold and built an above ground building with direct access to the End Portal inside the stronghold. Unfortunately it's not very easy to get to at the moment and we don't have enough eyes of ender to open the portal, but we will soon.
In addition, here's a map of the most of the 'settled' area of our world, thanks to Tiaexz. Once it's more filled in, I will annotate it.

The map is great.
Which program did Tiaexz use to get it?
Right, thanks.
On a different note, does anyone know how the in-game maps work? I made one today and it was labeled map_4. It showed only a limited area (from Noob hotel to Tiaexz pyramid on one side) and when I went beyond that I went off the map.
So how does one make a map 'center' on a different point? Or is there some way to join separate maps...because I read the wiki and couldn't find much there.
Also can players exchange different maps and see the areas others have explored?
The server has been updated to version 1.0.1. This is a server only upgrade which was released to fix the "invalid serial key" error so many of us have been experiencing. You do not need to update your client. Please let me know if anyone continues to experience that error from here on out.
Try Minecraft Classic. It's free, and you'll get a gist of what the game is about.
BTW, I had an incident with a creeper last night next to the glass spawning building near the noob hotel. I tried to repair it but for some reason I cannot fathom the area near about is all un-buildable-mineable.
Redstone= :angry:
I added another layer of pistons in my sugarcane farm and was having a lot of trouble getting them to all activate together. I finally got it to work though just have to finish the wiring. It was just a huge pain to figure out.
Minecraft is... unique, which makes it a bit difficult to describe as it doesn't really fit into of the normal gaming genres. I think the best thing to compare it to is actually Legos (the plastic blocks, not the Lego movie video games), but in first (or third) person mode and where you have to 'earn' every single piece you place and you can die. These 'blocks' you have to 'earn' include things which can help you survive, such as food, weapons, armor, potions, etc. The world is composed of basic natural resources, such as dirt, stone, trees, water, animals, etc. You dig, mine, chop down, kill, etc. these basic resources and can then combine them in certain manners to create other things. For example, the most basic starting system goes like this:
1) Spawn into a new world.
2) Punch a tree to get tree blocks.
3) Turn tree blocks into wood blocks.
4) Turn wood blocks into a crafting table.
5) Turn more wood blocks into sticks.
6) Turn a combination of wood blocks and sticks into a wooden pickaxe.
7) Use pickaxe to mine stone, producing cobblestone.
8) Use sticks and cobblestone to make a stone pickaxe (better than a wood one).
9) Mine coal.
10) Combine sticks and coal to produce torches, which provide light at night and in dark areas.
All of that can be done in about 3-5 minutes, faster if you can find coal quickly. There are an exceptionally large number of basic resources to mine/harvest/gather, and an even greater number of things to craft out of those resources, from doors to magic enchanting tables to jukeboxes to railroads to portals to other dimensions (there are 3 total 'dimensions'). There's even an extensive 'electricity' system (redstone) which allows you to make all kinds of automated mechanical devices. There are enemies to fight and an unbelievably large world (randomly generated) to explore, but there isn't any actual goal to the game. The point is basically to exist in a world where you can build anything that you can imagine, which is why I compare to Legos.
I agree with rajpoot, try the free version. It's an older version without as much stuff and you can't use multiplayer (which, IMHO, is a LOT more fun than SP), but it will get you used to the basic gameplay concepts. Be aware that there is no official manual, tutorial, or documentation of any kind. If you want to know how to do something, you should read the Minecraft Wiki, which is essentially the manual (or ask in here).
Eh, don't worry about it. You can't fix it because only people with Ops can alter terrain within a certain radius of the server spawn point (30 squares, I think). I've been meaning to revamp that area anyway. Due to the whitelist we don't have random players logging on anymore, so it's far less important to have a whole lot of rule text there to greet them. The main thing is just making sure people spawn in safety.
I think the biggest hurdle to overcome is understanding how the various switches, redstone dust, and redstone torches 'power' the blocks around them, depending on precisely which ones you use and how you position them. Once that starts to click into place, it gets easier.
I can haz joinage to the wonderful minecraft world?
same as this one
Ok, I'll add you to the whitelist when I get home (about 6 hours), or Tiaexz can do it if he's online before then.
HOORAY
Yeah it took me a really long time to figure out how the torches could work with redstone. I did not learn how to use them properly until after I had joined the server. For some reason the way I had the wiring for the pistons set up should have worked from what I understand about redstone, but it wouldn't. For the most part it did, except for the middle piston which would not activate. I still don't understand why it did not work, when it should have. I've changed the wiring dramatically from what it was originally and it should work now.
If you want to recreate the original setup, I'd be happy to take a look at it and see if I can spot the error.
The right side of my sugar cane farm is still how I had first wired it if you want to go take a look at it when you get on. I don't think I messed with that side.
Now that I think about it I think I might know why it didn't work. If redstone dust goes up a block does the block before the step-up get powered? If it does not then that would be the problem.
Added thefluffyone93 to whitelist
(Sorry, busy day here, pm me in future! Then I know especially to do it asap)
Ah, wunderbar!
Tell me, is there a Deadmau5 head yet?
Found an NPC town. Better than the church and random tower we found, TinCow.
https://img27.imageshack.us/img27/4093/npctown.png
I found what is probably the fabled snow biome. It's at -970,65,1234.
Edit:
Also if someone has two diamonds to spare please put them at the noob hotel. I want to try and create an enchanting table once I get back.
And there's also a nice little marsh biome a little way off from the new NPC village.
fluffy, were you having difficulty connecting yesterday? On the console I saw what looked like two successful connections with your name followed by a lot of failed ones later from the same IP.
You can take two diamonds from me, I owe you for those slimeballs. However, I can't dump them at the noob hotel until this evening. If you're on before then, you're welcome to take them from my house. However, they are stored in my secret lab, not my workrooom, and my lab is (by design) a bit hard to locate. As a hint, access is through the library.
Has anyone found a mushroom biome yet?
Also, found NPC town.
x: 682.659
y: 75.620
z: 1284.095
There is now an enchanting table in the noob hotel. Feel free to move it wherever you want.
So I just built a snowman turret near the noob hotel. Since it was a first attempt I put in too many blocks and it's not much to look at, but the snowman is there, and he can't get out so I it's OK.
Regrettably, I didn't get to see any action despite hanging around on the hotel's roof an entire night, because it would appear monsters don't detect the snowman from 16 blocks away like they can detect the player. Spiders, Skeletons, Zombies, Creepers and even Endermen kept spawning a little way off in the darkness but didn't come any closer, so the snowman just stood there looking puzzled.
Anyway wiki says that 5 spiders are capable of killing 500 snowmen. So if anyone goes off to the tundra biome to collect some snow for their base please pick some up for me too and dump it in the noob hotel when you get a chance.
Edit:
So the snow golem is a dud...I was pushed into lava by a skeleton a few blocks away and all it did was stand there, looking puzzled.
I have created a complete map of the server which works with the usual Google Maps interface. You can find a link to it here, and I've added another link in the OP. The map displays a surface view of the entire explored world, so it shouldn't be so hard to track down those snow biomes now. I will try and update the map every week or two.
Was this before or after I decided to take a long stroll today? I forget what you said....
Edit:
Never mind, I will never forget those deserts....
I went the exact opposite way to explore an ocean biome.....
Sigh...
EDIT!
Unless that part was already explored.
I don't see anything else that I saw while traveling,
unless its that long stretch of marsh to the left.
That map's great! I can almost trace the route I took back to hotel from the NPC village.
And it would seem that the Tundra biome I stumbled upon was a Southern extension of the one Tincow had found.
I don't even know half the people shown on the map....where'd they come from....:dizzy2:
Tincow something seems to be wrong with the door to your secret lab. When I joined the server earlier tonight I was inside of it and the lever did not open the door. I had to get out by breaking some stone by the window(I replaced it). I tried to go in from the front but that failed to work as well.
That map does include everything everyone did yesterday. I know I said it wouldn't yesterday, but that was before I realized I had made an error on the map rendering. The reason it the file size was so gigantic was that I had it render as pngs. I re-ran the renderer late last night and changed it over to jpgs with some compression, which dropped the total size down to 4gb (from 14gb). It's still large, but far easier to manage.
Thanks, it was a switching error. I've fixed it.
LOL, no, you're not download 4gb when you zoom out. It runs on the google maps system, so every layer is a completely new set of pictures, and your browser only loads what it needs to fit the current layer on the screen. Zoomed completely out, the entire map only takes up 80k. Zoomed all the way in, it takes up 2.36gb, but you're never viewing more than a tiny spec of that area at any one moment.
The server map (link in OP) has been updated.
Hahaha... I got lost the otherday showing Secura around, and was saying Hello to Therother. All I saw was this big forest and only thing I had on me was an ignitor.. you can see a big patch on the map where I have been.
Edit: Wow, the Waterworld Base is even on that map!
I see what has happened, it generators the entire explored world. Very interesting. You get to see how far I went on my ever long journey. What is surprising is where the Snow biome infact quite close and no where near where TinCow told me that time.
The Ender portal is up! Why did no one say?
Yeah, it displays the entire generated world, but the world is only generated as people explore, so there are many gaps. To give you a sense of scale, the snow biome is at around 1,500 to 2,000 'meters' from the spawn point, with 'meters' being the unit of measurement listed in the X, Y, and Z coordinates. The world itself extends out to 30,000,000 meters in all directions from the spawn point. So, we've only actually explored about 1/10,000 of one percent of the total world. It's a big game.
Sorry Tiaexz, I meant to post that the end gate was completed, but I completely forgot about it. I went in it and played around a bit with the dragon :2thumbsup: I destroyed one of the towers in there, but died in the process, because I did not know they exploded.
I went out past where the end fortress across a massive ocean and found a swamp biome and a few small islands.
Must......find.....SHROOMS....
I would like to start a large community project. Something that all players can help construct if they want. It should be suitably gigantic and impressive. Anyone have any ideas?
Massive Deadmau5 head?
or maybe a sphinx?
Or some other iconic figure on a massive scale.....
There was some kind of explosion in my nether outpost. I have no idea how it happened, but a significant portion of the building was destroyed and many of the supplies inside. I salvaged what I could and rebuild the storage chest, but as far as I can tell Pest's chest was completely vaporized. Apologies if there was something important in there, but I have no idea what happened.
I think Pest simply had a bunch of random stuff in there.
I put in some time today and finally managed to finish my castle. It's still bare-bones though...needs doors and all that stuff.
Also the experimental pumpkin farm is going exceedingly well so if someone needs pumpkins to start their own plantation they're welcome to take some from my chests.
I'm all for a group project. My side project is nearing completion and it's looking pretty good.
Are we thinking about a specific building or something bigger like a walled village with exotic materials and circuitry?
Personally I'm for a specific building/monument. Something like a huge townhall (based on the shape of some real world building...like the Pentagon for instance) in the center of the settled area.
An extoic village also has it's appeal but I fear that trying to do something too 'fancy' will mean more mining for exotic materials and less building....
Edit:
They might be tough, but big domes and spheres look very cool. I once made a hemisphere in SP with help of Minecraft Structure planner and it turned out very well.
I'm also more inclined towards a really large building. A coliseum/arena or giant temple or something.
My next project was going to be the "Org Tavern", but that would probably be smaller than TinCow's Batcave.
I think the monument should go inbetween the Pyramid, Csargo's Area and n00b hotel. Something big and grand... and we use that structure planner to create it, then anyone knows what needs doing and in their free time work upon it.
Big Ben, with Parliament included?
Or the White House?
Taj Mahal?
Pantheon, with notch and the makers of minecraft instead of the greek deities?
I still like my idea of a massive mau5 head.
Or we can go fictional!
Helms Deep?
Minas Tirith?
Minas Morgul?
Isengard?
Barad-dur (eye included)?
I can keep going if you like.
Oh, how about the mines of moria?
We mine, and build at the same time!
Win-win!
We might want to stay away from domed structures as they may look a little weird if they're not big enough.
Maybe something simple that we can build from strip mining and wood?
As far as exotic materials go: Glowstone lights would be good but things like wool may be difficult. I don't know how developed everyone's pastures are.
Perfect. Then all we need is an impressive yet nor overly complex structure.
My suggestion is something along the lines of a cylindrical building with pillars instead of walls covered by a hemispheric dome.
Another walled cylinder of equal height inside it.
Something like this with a dome on top.
Attachment 3297
Or we can have something like this -
Attachment 3298
Simpler shape, and we can use different materials like Vladimir said, instead of just stone.
For the record, I've built a road to a second nether fortress. If we wanted to use Nether Brick, we could mine that one completely down. It's very large and would produce a ton of brick.
What about building Winterfell in the Snow Biome?
Is the server off line right now?
Looks like it needs restarting.
Ah, :daisy:... sorry, I didn't check the server or the Org until I got to work. I won't be able to reboot it until I get home this evening.
When that does happen I'll be back adding a little local color to your megafortress map.
It's been a long time since I played and I can't reach the server anymore. Have I been removed from the whitelist? The OP says I'm on there (as Chuchip), but I've tried several times over the past few weeks and it never works.
Retry using the IP in the first post, you might have had the old one and never corrected to the new one. Silly Chuchip.
I am going to have to find some where to build the Org Tavern.... might build it near the spawn point or build it near the Stronghold and turn it into my private island..
The other is a big fortress city in the Snow Biome.... so many areas and ideas!
Just had a look around. I'll think I'll stay in my mud hut.
I take it this project won't kick off until after Christmas/New Year's. Let me know how I can help.
Sorry I forgot about that post. I tried the new IP and it worked, thanks. Looks like someone harvested all my wheat, let all my animals loose, broke the window on top of my room, and stole my iron and gold. I'm guessing it was one of the people that was stealing other people's stuff before you closed the server to the public. Oh well, I guess that's what I get for being too addicted to Skyrim to play lol.
Oh and I like the idea of having a community project and I'd love to chip in.
You're out of beer too.
For the broken window, that may have been me. I got nuked by a creeper while walking next to your house a really long time ago and a good chunk of wall was destroyed. I fixed what I could at the time and I think Csargo fixed some as well, but we might have missed the window. The animals probably escaped on their own. My animals constantly get out of their pens even though they are completely fenced in. Since you haven't logged in for so long, I'm not surprised there are none left. I have no idea about the wheat, iron, or gold, but you are welcome to take whatever resources you need to rebuild from my house.
The map of the server has been updated and is now current as of about 11pm EST last night.
[edit]Here is the proposed location for the community project:
https://img401.imageshack.us/img401/5214/locationu.jpg
I think that is a good location, as it is large, relatively flat, and easily accessible for pretty much everyone. Now we just need to decide what to build there...
That's an excellent location. Flat, square, and close to everyone's projects.
Do you have a map of Funcowland?
I think thefluffyone has explored the furtherest now!
