Ciao to everyone!
I'm a new member of this forum. I'm from Italy and I like RTW and I think EB is a great mod.
Thank you boys! :2thumbsup:
Welcome new members!
Hi everyone. :laugh4:
I have been perusing the various forums here, and I am impressed with the information available, and how helpful everyone is. :2thumbsup:
Just wanted to say hello. I haven't started playing the game yet. Just loaded it and am configuring now. :dizzy2:
Morning Folks.
Been lurking for what seems like an age but as the EB OB (oo that rhymes) is out I thought it polite to join up and add my little weight to the anomoly finding...you notice I said anomoly that would be 'cos I do software tech support and we don't do bugs we do anomolies and challenges.
I live in England by the way
I only play RTW at work in my lunch break as the wife hates 'puter games.....she doesn't mind me drinking beer though so thats OK in my books:2thumbsup:
Hello and happy new year to all;
I came across this site just 2 days ago.Soon I gathered that I will like it here!
Basically I got bored by my RTWv1.5, and its been a week since I started my first attempts to modify little things in my game!
Knowing only how to turn on/shut down your pc and getting fascinated by the idea of moding your game is a deadly combo!Trust me!But it is so adventurous that I just cant stop it anymore!
Already I spend 2/3 of my RTW time in trying to alter values and commands (repeat, without having a single idea!) and 1/3 playing it!
Loading,kicked back.Reloading,Ctd.And again.And again!Untill it loads up :)Its a narcotic!
When a total amateur (like me) sees that some of his modifying (no matter how simple work it was, from just changing traits to creating a whole brand new unit) actually 'works' and the game 'accepts' it,then it makes me happy. And every time I go KBM or CTD it makes me more stubborn to make it happen !
So,having said all that above, -and sorry in advance for that- expect more questions than answers, from me!
Btw,I live in Greece. But I hate Greeks in the game :)

Just here to say Hi all.
I've restarded playing RTW and discovered this site full of info and tactics, as well as great mods.
It will be fun to read this forum, and chat with you all.~
Welcome to the .org Praefectus Castrorum, buteo, Baldrick, Ainafoeht, and Pretorian. Enjoy yourselves.
Howdy!
Recently just got R:TW after playing with M:TW for the better part of the year. Haven't delved into yet as I am still going through another go around in M:TW.
Must say that this site has proved to be invaulable for information and has made the game that much more enjoyable. Can't wait to get started on R:TW.
Welcome to the .org dagiz, enjoy yourself.
Greetings one and all.
I've just enlisted with the Guild and so am looking forward to discussions on all things late roman. I've been playing RTW:BI for a couple of months now. Being an iold wargamer it has been great to finally come across a computer game that I can enjoy. But I am certainly looking forward to the modifications that are being planned. Can anyone tell me when these mods will be finalised.
Cheers

Welcome all!
Hey people! I am new to the site, but have been playing the game for a long time now...
I know it's probably somewhere, but could somebody point me in the direction of the "UnitBuildProj_Editorv2.0"? I think it has something to do with creating a new faction on Medieval: Total War - Viking Invasion. This was mentioned by "Duke John" at the link: https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/showthread.php?t=31896 :
Please help!!!
Thanks :laugh4:

Hi,
I'm new to this community.
I've been a MTW fan for ages......just ordered a copy of Shogun......and I can't get into Rome TW yet because of computer limitations......oh well maybe this year I'll upgrade.
Anyway, I'm looking forward to checking out this forum....I'm particularly looking for good MTW mods. I've played Hellenic and I'm currently playing a Napoleonic TW campaign.
Cheers:coffeenews:
Hi everyone!
Got Rome TW last month, my first Total War game and this is an awesome, awesome game!! I've been a MMORPG player for the past several years but have gotten burnt out lately on the current offerings so I decided to try a single player standalone game and have been very pleasantly surprised at this great game! This site looks great also and I got a lot of questions!
Howya, Archer, welcome to the Org! ~ This is the place to ask questions, so fire away.
Hi there, Matrixman, welcome to you too! ~ If your machine runs M:TW, S:TW should be a breeze. There's loads of techies here to help out if you have any problems.
And Thanks  Loucipher, for helping new guys get the feel of this place.
Oops, almost missed ZainDustin...: welcome ~ I'll PM Duke John to see if he can help.
ZainBustin
It's been too long for me since I last modded M:TW to be of much help, but the tool you asked for should be downloadable here:
http://www.totalwar.org/Downloads/Tools.shtml
(Under Medieval Tools look for UnitBuildProj_Editorv2.0)
Good luck with modding!
Thanks for the welcome KukriKhan! This is my first foray into anything like the Guild...or in fact any type of forum at all. I was pleasantly surprised to see a welcome posted so quickly.
I'm fairly "old" - 44 just before Christmas! I'd be interested to know if there are many baby-boomer members out there.
Because I work as a counsellor at a school I get to talk with heaps of children and young people from ages 5 right up to 16-17. Particularly with guys, computer games are a great common point of interest for us. I'm really into the games, especially the Total War series of course.- there's heaps of history, story telling, art, critical thinking that may help to switch kids back into learning....or add to it for them.Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
What do other members think?
Anyway looking forward to keeping involved.~
Thanks Kukrikhan....I don't know if this thread is for asking questions so I started a new one. It's great to be here, this is a awesome game!
Is there anywhere I could actually find out about what all the downloads actually do? I tried downloading some campaigns for MTW, but there are just names in that list, nothing specific about what they're about. I tried the utilities - the same thing, just sends me to the 3D downloads page. I don't know what I'm downloading, help!
Thanks for the Welcome!
Duke John, The link to the actual instructions to the mod isn't working anymore. Something wrong? :wall: :help:
About every six months or so, someone here starts a "How Old Are You?" thread. Based on those responses in the past, we have members ranging in age from 10 years old to 60, with the average age hovering around 25.Quote:

Welcome to all new members!
Hail all:
Name is Maximus, Im 43 years old and my occupation is a mechanical engineer. Im married and have (2) boys.
I was in the US Army for (4) years as a 19E tanker from 1980-1984 and I think thats why Ive fallen in love with RTW. Its the most incredible game Ive seen yet and after months of playing...Ive yet to tire of it.
Barbarian Invasion was a rude wake-up call for me after thinking I mastered RTW...I tried to play the Western Empire (Red) and got frustrated, because I don't think theres any way to beat BI playing the Western Empire. Everyone attacks you from all directions and theres too much to cover with too few resources (troops and Money).
I started a new game playing the Eastern Empire (Purple) and its going much better.
Anyhow, I hope to learn from the Masters in here and Thank You for allowing me to join your Forums.
Sincerely
LA_Maximu§
Good evening to all of you, gentlemen!!!I'm from Oporto Portugal, Invincta as Rome, famous maybe by FCP and it's excellent wine...It's nice to join this community with the name of one of the most famous Barbarian Generals from the Iberian Lands. The total war series is allmost all that i expected from a perfect strategy game...so, here i am...And may Ataegina, Endovelic and all the Iberian Gods be with you. Let's celebrate the ones that have designed and conceived(?) this serie of games with humble words and friendship!
AVE!!!

Hello :2thumbsup:
Hello LA_Maximus, veterans of all types (and we have many) are welcomed here ~ I think you're our first 'tanker'.
Bem-vindo Viriatus Nice name selection!
And 'How do you do?' to Glyndwr, good to see you joining in. ~
Good day LA_Maximus, Viriatus and Glyndwr, welcome to the Org.
Greetings!
I just realised I have not introduced myself properly. I live in England, work as a project manager and have a keen interest in history and particularly of the steppe and Mongol peoples in mediaeval times. I was an officer in the Royal Artillery and this sparked a lifelong interest in battlefield psychology.
My favourite game is MTW and I'm currently enjoying the XL mod hugely. Great thanks to all modders for their work.
I'm glad to have discovered this forum. It adds such an extra dimension to the game to be able to share one's own experiences and learn from others.
Greetings Archer, LA_Maximus, Viriatus, Glyndwr and Haruchai. any barbarian history-loving people are friends of mine!
Mongol General: What is best in life?
Mongol: The open steppe, a fleet horse, a falcon on your wrist, the wind in your hair!
Mongol General: Wrong! Conan, what is best in life?
Conan: To crush your enemies, see them driven before you, and to hear the lamentation of their women!
Mongol General: That is good!
.
:ave: Welcome all! It's still festival time so take your :barrel:

Welcome new members. You will find most questions will be answered in these posts. I am in the great State of Florida, where it seldom gets freezing cold. I enjoy playing RTW, MTW and STW/WE. I am 64 years old and have not grown up when it comes to games with a challenge. So Kukrikhan you are still a young man.

Hey people... My names Talon.
I'm a somewhat new player of MTW. I've read all the strategy threads here & have been playin for a week. I've so far only played in the early era/ hard difficulty rating. I really like the polish, for their retainers...
I was wondering. I'm fine on tactics/strategy, & unit selection for the most part, But I've had a problem in my last few matches, & that was, My king or major generals will die off, & I'll be left with only a 2 or 3 star general. Which is disgustingly frustrating when your attacking a large force with a 6 star+ general.
Any advice on gaining command for my generals? What influences gains? Just number of victories, or is it also the difficulty of those battles? Is more command gained for offense, or defense? Are there any other factors affecting command advances? Anything you could tell me would be greatly appreciated.
Talon
Welcome all to the Org, hope to see you around the forums :)

Welcome Talon, son of Fergus! :viking:

The only way to gain command stars is to win battles unfortunatly. However, you can get good-when-outnumber and expert attacker/defender virtues if you often win under these conditions.Quote:

Unfortunately I'm romping through constantinople & the Holy Land right now, but I'll get those clansmen eventually. =)
Ludens, thats great stuff, thank you!Quote:

Another question now =) Since you seem to be the one to ask... The other stats, Piety, Influence, & Accumen... , Can they be changed? How are they gained? & what are there effects, respectively? I know governors effect the income of a province via accumen, & Dread prevents revolts... But that's about all I know. Any help? Specifically, On influence.
Also can someone explain how you open trade via boats? I made some caravels & sent them out in a chain over 6-8 ocean territories, along with my docks & tradinhg posts, but noticed no real change in the 30-50 trade income in those territories, I don't get it, am I missing something? Is there more to it then building the boats/docks/trading post & putting some boats in the ocean where other docks are.... ( and every connecting square between yours & theres )
Sry for all the Q's. :help:

It's not to say that games don't stimulate thought & study, they do, I study the crap out of every game I play, from guides to forums, to films, & practice practice practice, but it's not the kind of study that leads to success in school =P
Hello everyone. I'm a big fan of the Total War series even though i only have MTW. I've had the game for more than a couple of years now and have completed it victoriously on a few occasions. I love history, primarily Roman and Dark Age European history and how the barbarians shaped modern Europe. Being a desecendant of one of the steppe peoples i find myself interested particularly in the origins and history of peoples like the scythians, huns, sarmatians, magyars etc.
Looking forward to many good discussions here.
.
Welcome Tarkhan Samsam! You will find plenty of history at the Monastry and many steppe enthusiasts (eg. Steppe Merc) and occassionally true experts (jurchen fury) too. May I ask, which steppe people is that? :charge:

Howdy folks, I've been playing RTW since November and love it. Before that I've mostly played WoW and SWG. I've been reading these forums for several weeks and have seen alot of good advice and interesting posts. I hope I can cotribute to both.
well meet. Board members long time lurker but I've been motivated to sighn up to present guides to barbarian invasion battle tactics and on if you decide to stay pagan rather than go christian or vice versa in some cases.

(New Oxford Dictonary of English)
In the game, your unit leaders (whether they are king, prince, general, governor or just commaning officer of a group of peasants) will develop vices and virtues (often indicated as V&V's), like good/bad commander, pious/heretic, drunkard, corrupt, herioc leader, great warrior and so on, that will affect their performance either in battle or as governor. Most of them directly influence piety, command, acumen, loyalty or dread, but some are less noticable, for example susceptibility to bribes or increases/decreases in farming, trade or mining income. Agents do not get V&V's.
Yes, they can be changed, most often through V&V's. Most V&V's are random, but there methods to increase your generals stats.Quote:

Influence improves loyalty of generals and provinces and should make it easier to bend other nations to your will. Also, high-influence kings tend to get sons with higher stats, and also will get an occasional one- or two-star general or admiral when recruiting.
Loyalty is mainly dependent on the King's influence, but marrying a princess to a general or giving him titles also helps. Treason trails may increase the loyalty of other generals, provided they succeed. If they fail, expect a loyalty hit, not in the least with the tried general. If all else fails, keeping generals in the King's stack will make them more loyal, as well as making it impossible for them to revolt. Loyalty determines susceptibility to bribes and the chance a general will revolt against you. A low-loyalty, high-command general commanding a powerful stack is a severe liability, especially if he is of royal blood or married to a princess.
Piety is gained by staying in high-zeal provinces. An inquisition trail can give both piety-increasing and piety decreasing V&V's, provided the defendant does not get burned. Commanding crusades also increases piety. Piety is mainly useful as defence against inquisitors. Also, high-zeal provinces don't take wel to low-piety governors and low-zeal provinces don't like high-piety governors.
Dread scares the populace into loyalty. It is gained by killing prisoners on the battlefield or ordering all rebels put to death after a rebellion. Remember though that the first action also results in a lower morale for the army and the second decreases the hapines of the population (although both actions need to be carried out two or three times before the adverse effects appear).
There is no known way to gain acumen, but with a governor it increases the provinces income with ten procent and with the king it increases the kingdom's income with two percent.
To trade you need a trading post or higher merchant, a dock and an unbroken line of ships to a port held by a neutral or allied faction. You cannot trade with your own or enemy provinces, or with provinces that do not have a port. Also remember that profits from exports are shown in the merchant building-scroll and not the port building-scroll. The port derives income from importing goods from other factions (I though it was 20% of the export profits, but I am not sure).Quote:

Hi BrSpiritus,
Just wanted to say Welcome and hope you enjoy your involvement here at the org. I wonder if your friend knew he or she would change your life forever with MTW for Christmas eh?
Do you think you'll get VI?? :viking: :viking:

Heck I would I have loved History a la Medieval Total War when I was at school.
:book: :bounce:
It's just that when I see a significant number of kids struggling with mainstream academic work, it'd be great to somehow channel the energy and enthusiasm they have for games into something that does contribute to their school success.
The Head of English at my school apparently wrote a paper on this - he was a Diablo fan back then - he's left us now unfortunately.
Anyway.....here's to many victories on the fields of MTW for you.....hope you enjoy the org
Depends on who you are. Age of Empires:Rise of Rome made me interested in ancient history. And RTW only added to that interest.Quote:

Welcome to the Org, new members.
I signed up for an Ancient Civilizations course in high school after playing Centurion: Defender of Rome. Anyone else remember that game? Its availible as abandonware nowadays.Quote:

THanks Ludens, You the man!
MatrixMan... Will kids ever be engrossed in learning? Im skeptical =P
My 8th grade history teacher had us do a Paper-&dice 'risk' game for japanese history, on a huge board, assigning a rice value to each square, I'm amazed now at how much it was like Shoguns strategy mode. I also did a 'jeopardy' on middle eastern culture. I won both these games =P Hardy-har. but they were my most remembered study subjects, without a doubt, because of this competitive, interactive approach.
I dunno... Maybe tie lessons into a MMORPG 'quest' type system =P and let the kids play WOW all day =)
I think we're a long way from grasping an entertaining learning system, where kids would prefer school over.... anything but =P
but it's a great idea. It'll happen someday, In our lifetimes? I wonder.
I'll take my rants to a more appropriate forum now =)

Hello to you all, for some time now i havnt been able to post , untill i found a thread somewhere telling me to post in new members section :wall: , lol

Hello folks. Im little off from net around these times, but I try to pop in and discuss about things when possible. I have been playing rome total war for god knows how long and haven't played anything else since. Im going to try out total realism since it seems to change the colours of the troops a little more bearable, like those horrible eachaching parthians!
Hello to Judge and Andy Shadows.........~

there is not much to say except i love bloody toatal war, and altough i didnt play mtw and stw but only rometw, i can say this is greatest strategy game of all time.
this is my first total war forum(i hope and last), but i share my opinion about this game on some other(serbian) forums.
to all fans of Seleukid empire, I salute to you, to all other people, i respect you, even as enemies(khm, khm).
greatist thing about total war for me is loading screen proverbs, so expect lot of wise talk from me.
keep your swords sharp, and your eyes bright...
Dobrodoshlo...Hello dkdnt,welcome totheOrg! ~
We look forward to your wise talk. (And please pardon my Serbian, if I used the wrong greeting).

i cant believe you know this, and im very honoured by domestic greeting. thanks man.
duke of serbia, i hope this is his nick here said few good things about this place on some serbian forum. he also said that there is only two members from serbia here, so im third. thats why im so surprised abuout this greeting.
i know that this is not right place to ask, but i hate to write lot of posts, so i`ll use this as it is.
how can i put avatar from my hard disk, or from another url.
I am afraid the board does not allow custom avatars. There is some discussion on this subject going on, but as yet it is impossibleQuote:
