Knights of the King's Guard
https://img177.imageshack.us/img177/...uardxm1.th.jpg
Today we revisit the King's Guard. These knights are ofcourse the bodyguard units for the Latin Kingdom. They have recieved the most in terms of update. Originally just the mounted Latin knights of old they now have new shields, a new helmet and most importantly new covered horses.
awsome, truly.
wow caius ive been waiting a long time for your mod, whenever you plan to release a private beta tell me and ill help you get through any bugs that come up. -CoS
I'll help too!
this whole mod will be like living inside the movie "Kingdom of Heaven" :2thumbsup:
Caius, in what phase of the final release project is now the team? I tought that it was nearly done, 'cause I haven't been in the forum for a while. So when are you planning to release (even a part) the mod?. Thanx
The custom battles beta is closer than ever. But people have to remember I don't sit at my computer all day working on this mod like its my job. I have other responsibilities all of which come before working on Crusades. So please just be patient.
Today's Revisit:
Heavy Infantry of the Latin Kingdom
https://img165.imageshack.us/img165/...isitzi6.th.jpg
Another unit that received an update during the spring. The original heavy infantry sported heavy grey padded armor. Now, to fit with the theme of the Latin Kingdom, the heavy infantry have been placed in blue padded armor. They also now have a hi-resolution shield texture and updated padded coif.

Today you get to look at the re-vamped Mounted Sergeants.
Mounted Sergeants of the Latin Kingdom
https://img178.imageshack.us/img178/...isitzl9.th.jpg
Again not much of a change. They have recieved improved surcoats and shields and look all-around much nicer. Considering they will form the bulk of the crusader cavalry I believe the changes quite eye-pleasing.
Once again Caius, great artwork. :2thumbsup: I really liked the "Knights of the King's Guard",:knight: and best of all the "Crusader General". Wow :wideeyed: , what a masterpiece!
when will it be released?
wow! the remakes look awesome. :2thumbsup:
Aw man, why would you ask that? Why...?Quote:

Knights of the King's Guard=awesome!
Caius, is there any new 'unit-re-styling' you think we should see?. A stupid question, when it's finished you'll release only a beta for testing or we're waiting for the final product.

Crikey, I'll have to start checking these theads more often and deleting at will. Tell me, if I say "Please don't tell me when it's going to be released" for everytime someone asks, does that negate it?
Just take people's impatience as a complement.
PS, when is this mod going to be released?
Actually, on second thoughts, don't tell me... :creep:
Thanks for making this awesome looking mod btw.

Turcopole Revisited
https://img92.imageshack.us/img92/65...isithi2.th.jpg
Outfitted now in a padded leather coat and mail coif the Turcopole has seen a significant update over the summer. More heavily armed the Turcopole now better represents the unit and its role in the crusading army. Before, he wore nothing but a tunic and carried a small round shield; making him nothing but a skirmishing troop. Now, outfitted in better armor (including a better helmet and mail coif) as well as a larger kite shield, the turcopole can take up his position as the second line of a cavalry offensive behind the Knights and Mounted Sergeants. But because he still carries a bow and is not overly armored he can still skirmisher and catch quicker Saracen cavalry. The turcopole is now an important and versatile unit on the battle field supplementing the cavalry of your armies.
Terrific as usual.
I assume you don't tire of praise as much as you do as people asking about when your mod is out.
Any more building previews to come though?
Nice padded leather coat texture. I tried to make my own, but it was a flop...
Moving on to a revisit that I did recently, Ghuzz Tribesmen. This unit was completed some time ago but never shown to the public. I decided to "up the ante" with it only recently and using the same texture I added a new feature to the unit.
Ghuzz Tribesmen
https://img73.imageshack.us/img73/13...isitiy9.th.jpg
These men are skilled hunters and nomands from eastern turkey. Although they are skilled with javelins and axes they are not to be mistaken as line infantry. These men make excellent ambushers and are capable of hiding in almost any position. Quick as lighting and and just as deadly they make excellent troops that can harrass approaching armies as well as lay in wait for an ambush.
Whats new to the unit is the fur coat. Before, it was just a fur texture. Now the fur has come to life like never before in an RTW mod. And if all you can think about is the performance hit, don't fret. The fur appears only on the high detailed model and so these fur coats do not come at any performance cost.
wow nice fur!
that fur looks so real i should report you to the RSPCA lol :laugh4:
is there a sticky that sez "DOn't ask when its released" ?
Hello im new here..im a fan of KOH & RTW..its not released yet but im a fan of your project since day one i saw ur screenshot for "the crusade" mod..love it..

just so know one mystakes them for hospitallers, other than that i love them:2thumbsup:
this mod isn't really about hist. accuracy (as stated by Caius0, its more about enjoyment, eye candy and someone's inspiration from kingdom of heaven ^ ^
The gameplay features are interesting :2thumbsup:
As my friend here said, the mod has never been about historical accuracy. Now, that doesn't mean alot of what you see isn't right out of history. Most of the units fall into the period of the mod, and 90% of the arms and armor is restricted to the period of the 2nd and 3rd crusades. As stated in the info thread, the mods purpose is to create a new single player experience steeped in the history of the period but not necessarily restricted to the history of the period.
Moving on, a treat to the patient masses.
The new and improved Byzantine Kataphraktoi
https://img518.imageshack.us/img518/...isitaj4.th.jpg
If your wondering, things are moving alot faster now. Isnogood (our new task monkey) has completed 55% of the info and battle cards and the coding is entering the final stages.
Mind Blowing
yeah, that looks great! and excellent to hear that things are picking back up. on that note, have you had success in making city layouts for the fortresses, etc? i remember from the map preview, the campaignmap models look excellent.
Well done Caius, everything looks great!
I'm starting to realise that, when long time ago on rtr forums i asked you to give a "pessimistic" release date, which you did - (16 october) you were not kidding :wall: . But anyways keep up the good work, and if any help needed, i am always ready to help with coding.
Btw, the units from previews, are they new, or you are simply improving old models? Does that mean that you are finished with them? And could you give us some preview about the recruitment system and scripting? I.e. will we be able to build "clone armies" or like in mtw2 armies will be different?
i think ca new recruiting system is really great, adds a lot to gameplay. Why not make recruiting availiable only through mercenaries button?
the skins look great!
Not possible with the Rome engineQuote:

Meaning that in a sense the clone armies of RTW are semi gone. So normally if you needed 4 units of basic infantry you would have say 4 units of hastati (vanilla rome). In crusades you can have latin militia, english men-at-arms, french infantry and latin men-at-arms. Or you could have german infantry, italian militia, tripoli men-at-arms and antioch halberdiers. Or hospitaller spears, with teutonic spears etc etc. The combinations are almost endless with the numbers of units per faction. The same goes for the Saracens who have an even more diverse recruitable roster than the crusaders.
That's good news. Thanks for your answer Caius and again good luck, and God (s.w.t.) help you finish it soon.
The last thing i wanted to ask is the garrison script. Is it 100% confirmed that it is going to be in the mod?
Its not 100% confirmed yet. right now its 50/50 include or not.
the models are impressive! i use some of the unit previews with white backgrounds as wallpaper...:laugh4: they looks so detailed and shiny.
very nice
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
:laugh4:
okokok I'll stop now, I'm in a good mood, forgive me
come on Myrddraal even you know your not supposed to do that!! lol :)
[B]Caius, again concerning the recruitment system, will all units have 0 turn time to recruit, or like in rtw vanilla the harder the unit, the longer to recruit?
Can you make 0 turn for militia units, and say 3-4 turns for other elite type troops, or any recruitment system like that.
Also i wanted to ask, whether it is possible for crusaders and muslims to have specific mercenaries to recruit?
Units look great, so does the map and the buildings... Please don't hurry to much, don't forget about the proper economic/recruitment systems!
Recruitment is not zero turn and has never been zero turn.
I think daud.fr was refering to 1 (one) turn-units, such as town militia, etc.Quote:

Man, the detail you've got on those units is really top quality. What can I say, I'm jelous...
Yo Caius, where do u get the visuals for the lamellar? DId you make itself and then replicate it?
I made it from a a picture I found on the internet. Took sections of the lamellar and then edited the color, shading etc eventually ending up with a tileable texture that I could use.
~ Holy... You never cease to amaze me.
Stunning, Caius, just stunning! I'm LOVING it! :)
Things are progressing nicely. And just in case you don't believe me

If i had a game company i should hire you, for sure.:phonecall:
Really nice work.
As we are putting together the final game we are also taking the opportunity to test the stats more thoroughly, which means some kick ass online battles. So I am going to share with you an AAR of a battle between myself and Reiksmarshal (another developer on the mod). Before this battle we had already played a battle in which I as the crusaders had attacked his light saracen infantry and out numbered and out gunned was eventually totally destroyed. I chalked this up to lack of cavalry. I had with me in that attack two units of mounted knights. And although they are powerful they were easily bogged down by numerous saracen light cavalry. I was determined to use more cavalry in the next battle. Eventhough it would mean being out numbered even more than I already was. So with that setting up the battle lets get started.
The battlefield would be the dunes of Arabia.
https://img176.imageshack.us/img176/...oundap9.th.jpg
I had chosen for my army 4 units of heavy Byzantine Cavalry (only available to the Crusades/Saracens in custom battles not the campaign), 4 units of Teutonic foot knights, 3 units of german heavy infantry, 3 units of english men-at-arms
https://img135.imageshack.us/img135/...alryqo8.th.jpg
2 welsh longbowmen, 2 Genoese sailors
https://img101.imageshack.us/img101/...hersyf1.th.jpg
and the templar grandmaster as my general.
https://img291.imageshack.us/img291/...sterbb8.th.jpg
As the battle started I quickly surveyed my opponents army which vastly out numbered my own. He had at his disposal 4 units of Ayyubid Infantry, 4 units of of Jarwajaraya Militia (javelineers with large shields), 4 units of thaqlah infantry, 3 units of Mamluk Foot Askars,
https://img80.imageshack.us/img80/75...ntrydx3.th.jpg
2 units of heavy mamluk cavalry, 2 units of jaridah cavalry
https://img96.imageshack.us/img96/10...alryks6.th.jpg
and a unit of Sibyan al Rikab for the general.
https://img96.imageshack.us/img96/89...eralen5.th.jpg
I
n all, the battle would pit my 1860 men against his 3534 men making me outnumber nearly 2 to 1. Almost before I could react to his army, Reiks began moving them quickly to my right attempting to take the high ground. I was closer to it but slower. despite this I made a move for it anyways.
https://img19.imageshack.us/img19/66...verstg3.th.jpg
Reiks was faster and took the high ground with ease. All I could do was use my archers to screen my army as they essentially pivoted on the spot to face the saracens now lined up on my right flank. For a few minutes our archers exchanged volleys. My longbowmen were getting the better of his mamluks and so he decided to send his light cavalry to deal with them. He moved them quickly to engage my welsh men. As soon as I saw what he was doing I orderd 1 unit of kataphraktoi to make an attempt to intercept his light cavalry
https://img246.imageshack.us/img246/...tackqv3.th.jpg
My slower kataphraktoi, which also had to race uphill, didn't make it in time and one of my welshmen units was over run. However before reiks could withdraw his Jaridah cavalry my kataphraktoi were able to engage them.
https://img136.imageshack.us/img136/...ttlehv5.th.jpg
The Jaridah were quickly beaten by the far superior kataphraktoi. I quickly sent the kataphraktoi back into position while I continued the archery skirmish. Unfortunatly it wasn't going well. His mamluks, which now had numerical superiority quickly ate up my archers and so I was forced to begin the main assault.
https://img146.imageshack.us/img146/...ttleju6.th.jpg
The plan was simple. I had arranged my units in a classic cavalry charge formation. My Kataphaktoi would charge first, break up the enemy line and my infantry would fill the gaps.
https://img143.imageshack.us/img143/...plancz9.th.jpg
The charge was more devestating then I could possibly imagine. I had targetted the infantry line behind his mamluks expecting them to fall back as my cavalry approached. However, they stood their ground and were completely trampled by the heavy cavalry as they plowed through them on their way to the light infantry.
https://img220.imageshack.us/img220/...argeqi1.th.jpg
As the charge was underway I moved up my infantry and prepared to send them into the gaps created by my heavy cavalry. Already it was working, the cavalry had pushed itself almost right through three lines of saracen light infantry and had effectively isolated the entire line into four parts.
https://img246.imageshack.us/img246/...ryupso4.th.jpg
I was still holding back my english men-at-arms and at this point the battle had not yet been decided. His overwhelming numbers were beginning to have an effect on the foot knights and german heavy infantry. So I sent in the last of my infantry to support the wavering units.
https://img228.imageshack.us/img228/...argecs2.th.jpg
Reiks still had two units of Mamluk heavy cavalry, things weren't going well for him and so he threw those men into the frey.
https://img172.imageshack.us/img172/...argekh1.th.jpg
With their armor piercing axes they were cutting through my english and german infantry near the center of the line. The last unit I had left were the Templar Grandmaster and his Inner Circle knights. I quickly told them to charge into the melee and try to engage the Mamluks.
https://img243.imageshack.us/img243/...scueay7.th.jpg
For the next 10 or so minutes there was nothing more I could do. I had to hope that my infantry would prevail against the remaining saracen light infantry. Several units started to falter but in the end his right flank began to rout. Soon his entire right and parts of his center were in full rout.
https://img228.imageshack.us/img228/...isonpi0.th.jpg
His left and parts of his center held out a little longer. However his general was soon killed and his entire army was in flight. So ended the battle, of the 3534 men that opposed me at the start of battle only 383 remained. Of my 1860 men some 1125 brave men still stood.
https://img134.imageshack.us/img134/...tatstb1.th.jpg
All in all, an excellent battle that displayed the superiority of heavy cavalry. However, the saracen army lacked heavy infantry of any kind. Had he brought Black Guard, Daylamites or Syrian heavy infantry to the battle things may have turned out differently.
This is a proof not only he is good in moding but superb in tactics..is there any tutorial here to brush up my skills..
Excellant stuff Caius,
glad to see things are coming along so well.
:2thumbsup:
it would be nice to see a teaser trailer of this game b4 its release..screenshots making me drooling..if a movie..would make my jaw drop
very cool shots, a very good battle, and those are awesome arrows (showing troop movements). but about the welshmen, are you going to fix the crease down the face? and should they have swords? how about some sick-looking maces?
