Welcome back to the .Org Kensai
Oh and the name is very familiar, yet I couldn't give you more details, I've only returned at the beginning of this year myself after ceasing my visits sometime in 2005 due to lack of time for games and whatnot sigh. The rest are sure to remember him and have some idea though.

Re: Hail New Members! (Introduction) v.IV
Welcome back Kensai. IIRC Drisos got into a spot of bother. Havn't seen him around for a while.

Re: Hail New Members! (Introduction) v.IV
Hi All,
I am new to the Total War Franchise. Currently playing RTW gold (system cannot play anything newer). Have lots of queries which I hope you all will help me with.
Dream to buy a new laptop so that I can play ETW and NTW (I like the gunpowder era the most) but currently cant afford anything at all so content with reading
the posts you all put in the NTW and ETW forums :)
I bring to this forum a perspective from India, (ETW ppl perhaps might like this since India is a major theater in that game). So far thats all I can offer I am afraid.
Hope to catch a thing or two on modding so that once I have a decent system I can mod the Punjab faction ( my homeland ) into a playable faction with accurate units

Welcome jaspritsingh!
And yes, we're a bit heavy on yanks and europeans around here, definitely good to have fresh blood from the other side of the globe.
Might I suggest going for a custom-made desktop PC by the by? You get the same tech for less than half the price of the laptop.

Thanks Nowake,
I travel to my city of work every monday and come home for the weekend. So I prefer a laptop that I can lug around.

Re: Hail New Members! (Introduction) v.IV
Hello, everybody. This is my first post here. Thank you to everyone for diligently assembling a thoroughly amazing catalog of information and advice for us TW enthusiasts. I just discovered "Rome: Total War" a couple of months ago. I only found it because it appears in the Top 20 of several "best PC games of all-time" lists.
I started my first RTW campaign with the Brutii, and have been browsing this site for numerous tips along the way. Now at 44 regions and preparing to invade Roma, I've begun thinking about my next campaign. I'd like to try Britannia's corner position, with its advantage of border seclusion and challenge of distance from Greece's wonders.
I also recently discovered the slew of other games in the TW franchise. I just ordered "Medieval II: Total War" because it uses the same game engine. Between M2TW and RTW and their modding options, I've got gameplay for the rest of my life. And I might add that I got both RTW and M2TW for less than $10 each -- including shipping. Thanks to ebay for that!
For any "Rome: Total War" newbies... here are my top two starters' tips:
- Having too many armies will hurt your profits big-time. All ungoverned cities should have only 1-2 peasants, unless fighting is imminent. This is crucial in the beginning, when you think you need lots of armies (but really should focus on trade and building your empire's economy). Any armies you do have should be out fighting. If you leave a huge garrison sitting in a random city for more than one turn, you are throwing away profits.
- Build up a big navy and make sure each ship icon contains at least three ship units. Start early. This makes everything easier. Soon you'll have several three-ship groups, which gives you the ultimate flexibility to manage your empire and expand as needed. First, you won't have any problems with those annoying Rebel and Greek fleets that come around only looking to destroy your ships. Second, you can eventually have enough three-ship groups to blockade all ports owned by a particular faction (useful to slow an enemy's growth before you invade). Also, you can have 100% confidence that you will be able to safely transport troops over water simply by using any three-ship group (with at least 60 soldiers total).
I know that last segment belongs in the RTW forums. But since this is my required first post, I figured I'd throw out a little general analysis for any newbies who stumble upon this post.

Re: Hail New Members! (Introduction) v.IV
Welcome Vibius Drummicus!
Excellent first post.
If and when you exhaust yourself on Rome Total War, go ahead and download the free Rome total realism mod. It converts your game into what amounts to a whole new experience and I highly, highly enjoyed it.
But put off doing that for a while. Both the original game and the converted mod are extremely engrossing and I would love for you to get hooked on one for a while, and then later on get hooked on the other. Each one has their merits, and it does change the feel of the game.

Re: Hail New Members! (Introduction) v.IV
Hello all!
There's probably a few people, ATPG included, who'll recognise me; I hail from another forum a bit like this where, among other things, I play a little mafia. :D I hear there's a thriving Mafia-playing community here, so I thought I'd join up and see what all the fuss was about. Total War also seems like an interesting game, which I've heard a lot of good stuff about, so I'll likely have a look at that as well. So see you guys around! :)
Quick edit: Oh, and I'm from New Zealand.

Yep, I recognize you General Olaf! Welcome to all mafia players from other forums. i hope you enjoy your stay here.
It's quiet in the gameroom at the moment but I imagine 2012 is going to be a good year for mafia here.

Re: Hail New Members! (Introduction) v.IV
Hello, everyone. I am hoping for some guidance. I cannot find a good faction guide for England in M2TW. I looked through the M2TW FAQ and the Guides section, and several other sections. No dice.
It's clear that everyone really gets upset when someone asks a question in the wrong place... but this forum is not really organized in a way that is easy to understand.
Could someone please point me to the proper thread to find this faction guide?
I had none of these problems with RTW. There were guides upon guides everywhere for every faction. Yet for M2TW I can't find any faction-specific guides on this site (although I did find a short guide on a different website).
Thank you in advance to anyone who can help direct me to the right place.

Re: Hail New Members! (Introduction) v.IV
Hello all.
The name's Jason and I've played every total war game from medieval up until empire, rome + expansions being the clear favorite.
I have come primarily to help with the Greek voicemods of EB, which I believe are a bit lacking. I will notify this intention of mine in the correct thread asap.
This post has been made clearly as a requirement imposed by the forum software engine.

Re: Hail New Members! (Introduction) v.IV
Hi everyone. I'd be too shy to post so soon, except to prove that I'm not a bot. Actually, as further evidence, I've just finished the third volume of Jonathan Sumption's history of the Hundred Years War. No bot would have the patience for that. Anyone else read it?
-
Re: Hail New Members! (Introduction) v.IV
Hello and welcome alanfc ~
We have an entire subforum dedicated to the discussion of history, namely the Monastery, situated right HERE.
I'm sure you'll find people over there interested in a discussion about the Hundred Years War.
Btw, the Hunderd Years War sounds like a good setting for an Interactive History (more about that in the Chapter, a subforum of the Monastery, which is situated HERE).
Enjoy your stay at our little corner of the internet
-
Re: Hail New Members! (Introduction) v.IV
Welcome alanfc.
For further proof you're not a bot, we would like a 50 page summary of Jonathan Sumption's history of the Hundred Years War on our desk by next week.
-
Re: Hail New Members! (Introduction) v.IV
I object to the new .orgah's statements. I am a bot, and I've read every book written about every war lasting at least one year. I happen to be more well-read than the average non-bot.
We of the bot community object to the stereotype that bots are unthinking, spammy automatons who CLICK HEEERE N0W FOR LATEST TOTAL WARR NEWS! SEE SWWEET PIXXX OF SAMURAI WA4RIORS FENDING OFF H0RSE ARCH3RS!

Excellent idea!
I think I have some tax papers around here that somebody should fill in to prove he's not a bot too.
I also think bots can't prepare an excellent meal every day (except for the week-end, I like cooking myself when I have the time to do it properly), clean my house every week and do the laundry, so perhapse from now on, newly registered users have to do all that
-
Re: Hail New Members! (Introduction) v.IV
You could also check out the Gameroom and play mafia. We're fairly certain Askthepizzaguy's the only bot capable of playing mafia.

Not at all, good sir. Camels are God's most beautiful creatures, and we should be glad they were put on this earth for us to worship & admire. ~D

Re: Hail New Members! (Introduction) v.IV
Hi to everyone,
new to S2TW and all these strategy games. Loving it for now although struggling a little in my first SP campaign with the Shimazu. :( Have played the tutorials and in the campaign I've made quite a lot of errors or bad decisions that have took me to own 6 provinces but no allies, no trade agreements and only 1 trade node. Diplomacy is not working because i have everybody against me. Thinking about starting the campaign again.
Regards

Re: Hail New Members! (Introduction) v.IV
Thank you all for the warm welcome
I have already printed Frogbeastegg's guide, and Peasant Phil's Absolute beginners guide, both which are really great and I have also been reading lot's of posts about campaigns (not only Shimazu) but this will take time because I'm totally new in these strategy games. I did play a little bit of Company of Heroes, Men of War, RUSE and even Warcraft very long ago but this it the first title of CA i've tried and I really love it. I don't remember playing so much hours of the same game in one session.
Will try to update my campaign in the Tea House subforum.
Regards
Arekkusu (Aka Alex)

Re: Hail New Members! (Introduction) v.IV
Welcome Arekkusu! Don't worry, you will get the hang of Shogun 2s campaign. Have fun during your learning process, that's part of the enjoyment of the game! :)

Re: Hail New Members! (Introduction) v.IV
Hello,
did anybody try to run shogun 2 on a p4 2.8c? I won't be able to upgrade until next year. I'll test the demo as soon as I'll get my psu replaced. I know the requirements and searched the web. Actually I even don't bother if it doesn't work. It was just a question. I hope I did not offend anybody.
I was a coward back then (2000 stw, later mtw) not to engage in online multiplayer. I played the stw demo before the game came out and couldn't wait the months to pass. I bought stw the first day it appeared in the stores but skipped anything since mtw. CA can't get me to play a game by just providing good, very good, impressive, top notch or whatsoever graphics. It was the brand new idea and game play which made me embrace stw. I would like to try shogun2 online. I'm not interested in single player campaigns anymore. (the KI is just too challenging ;))
I forgot my old accout because I used it only a few times. It was either civilian or roman or sth. like that. I already searched the members and there must have been a deletion or sth. because there is no civilian anymore and the existing roman user isn't me. Roman was not taken in 2000.
You have been my 1st place to look for information back in the days and i want to thank you a lot for the good old guides.
I'm glad that totalwar.org is still going strong.
-
Re: Hail New Members! (Introduction) v.IV
Welcome back DeadMan,
Like you suggested yourself: run the demo. If it works, then so will the full game.
-
Re: Hail New Members! (Introduction) v.IV
Thank you Peasant Phill!
Just read your sig: So Frogbeastegg is still writing guides. Wow!
Nice crash course!
I've read about the ddos attack problem in mp. I think that the best thing to avoid hackers and cheaters is to have a community like this one, where you know and trust each other. I'm looking forward to get to know some of you. Hopefully not in one year, when I'll buy a better comp.
Is anyone here also in F|H? (a FPS community focused on Battlefield 2 mods, especially Forgotten Hope and Project Reality but also other games www.forgottenhonor.com) Some of them have started playing RTW a few months ago.
-
Re: Hail New Members! (Introduction) v.IV
Welcome (back) DeadMan ~
Don't know if this helps, but I run the game on a 3,5 yr old PC with an ATI Radeon HD4850 (512 MB) graphics card on high settings and it runs very smooth (Processor - AMD Athlon Dual Core 3,20 GHz; 4 Gb RAM).
The MP section for TW:S2 is right HERE, maybe you'll find some old friends over there (or make some new).
-
Re: Hail New Members! (Introduction) v.IV

unfortunately I didn't play any TW title online yet and I was part of the "silent majority" so I do know what some ppl here have done for the community and who they are, but nobody knows me. I promise to contribute this time.
