ok thank you you answered my question
you need to have alexander instaled before using this minimod, you don't need to uninstall anything ,just install alexander on top of everything else (this should work but there could be issues if you don't have a clean vanilla rtw)
Simple question: should I spend 30 bucks on the Alexander expansion JUST so I can use it with EB?
You could also try playing the expansion too. Consider it as a challenging RTW-vanilla experience. I bought it mainly to use it in EB but I spent a lot of time playing the campaign (twice!) and the historical battles, like Chaeronia, Granicus, Issus, Gaugamela etc.Quote:

Hi.. Does with that MOD change the recruitment system? I am playing with Rome and attacking germanics, build "Roman Aliad States" everything more and does not have any unit for recruit except for the diplamats, spies...
I was just wondering if you had managed to get ALX.exe EB running on Steam, having a bit of trouble myself.
edit: I managed to get it running by installing EB in my Alexander folder, then installing the fixes, formation files and ||Lz3||s download into that EB installation. It seems to be running ok, the only problem I have noticed is no intro movies, could I run into problems?
Kovoged, this mod doesn't change the recruitment system. It permits you to play EB with a better AI.
I think your problem is that you're still in the Camillan or Polybian period, where troops can only be recruited with a type I government in Italy. After the Marian reforms (see the faq for details), you can recruit practically all over the Mediterranean.
Night battles are FUBAR anyway so no problem there. I dont want them.Quote:
the other not retroactive thing when switching to alex.exe are night battle traits, cause you need to enable night battles in desc_strat file which is... non retroactive , so you might not get any night battle related trait
I have a question: If we want to run EB with Alexander, what do we do? Say I have the Alexander expansion. Then what? And what is it exactly that is up for download on the first page of this thread? Do we need to download that to make EB compatible with Alexander? I am just a little confused.
Also, if I install this over my copy of EB, it will almost certainly overwrite my files. I have mods which effect most files, including EDU, EDB, traits, and so on. Is there anyway to make Lz3's minimod pack (and other mini mods) compatible with Alexander EB?
Download pack from first post.
Open EDCT and copy Immortal trait from it.
Paste it to EDCT in EB\Data folder.
Change shortcut to point to alexander exe and change command line parameters to " -mod:EB -noalexander -show_err"
You are still missing one file which name I cant remember. Start EB using alex shortcut. It will fail but will give you name of missing file. Copy it from pack to proper location and you are done.
well... there's a mod pack with alexander EB... that will give you the mod pack AND alexander as the working exe
also in first post there are 3 ways to get EB working with alexander:
1-Download Maksimus files -alexander EB beta 2 , this files contain a complete mod , not only they change to the exe , but also units , treasury as well as 2-3 more units
2-Download my files in first post. however there's an error in those files , I dont recomend it -sweboz traits get weird characters and there's no night battle related traits ,my bad... :sorry2:
(is there a way to change who can modify the first post? , I would like to correct several mistakes in there , but since maksimus isn't longer here , he can't do that himself , but I wouldn't like to start a new thread tough... who should I ask? )
3-make the changes yourself so EB can work with alexander -you can find what you need to do in the first post
4-Download the files in my signature [recomended] however , this will overwrite a lot of your files , even if they dont have anything to do with alexander :sweatdrop:
Hey guys i just wanted to ask one thing, is there supposed to be such trait as Family Member with using Alexander, when i try to read what it does it says hidden and all my family members have it
yes... it's not... exactly alexander's fault... that trait was made visible in the addition of LordbulA's client ruler fix
put everything as you had it and just install this over , to avoid confusion...
the files that are overwriten are :
-EDCT
-descr_strat
-export_vnvs
-export_descr_vnvs_enums
oh and...
MINOR UPDATE the Alexander link in my signature now has new files... only those necesary to change the exe -instead of the many unnecessary files that were in the previous download link-
Strange. This is how I made it to work. You did copy this new Alex file right? (it was bad word blacklist, cant remember file name )Quote:
I did this and while it starts fine, whenever I try to load a campaign I get a CTD with no show_err message and also some historical battles don't work anymore. Custom battles seem to work fine though.
the most common forgotten files is chat_filter.san or something... but that makes the game ctd at the game launch, you can't even get to the main menu
Thanks guys, everything is working well now. And best of all, my old savegames ARE compatible!:beam:
Can't wait to try out this new AI.
EDIT: One more question: Is it possible to use ALEX with trivialscript? If so, how can I do that? I would love to have two seperate shortcuts to make it simple such as with vanilla EB.
:inquisitive: you aren't using the link in my signature are you? ^^
if you used my files then it's already working with TrivialScript
if you're not using it it's simple though
in your RTW folder open the ebconfig.xml file (right clic >open with> notepad -or something-)
search for .exe
make it look like this
Code:<Text>RomeTW-ALX.exe -mod:eb -noalexander -show_err</Text>
It does look like that, without the show_err that is. Here is my text:
<Text>RomeTW-ALX.exe -mod:eb -noalexander</Text>
My problem is that I only have one ALEX.exe shortcut for EB, and it runs whatever EDU file I happen to have in the Data folder. It also opens with the preconfigured setting of whatever I happened to run last time (sp or mp). If I want to play the campaign, I have to open EB sp using the trivialscript sp shortcut that came with EB, exit it out, then start up ALEX.exe. I would prefer to skip this lengthy step if it is possible.
you dont have your original 2 EB shortcuts?:inquisitive:
their target line should say
and change the "Single Player" to "multiplayer" in the other shortcutCode:"C:\[wherever your rtw is]\EBTrivialScript\EBTrivialScript.exe" -s ebconfig.xml -runeb -type "Single Player"
I do have my original EB shortcuts, but I want to run EB with ALEX.exe. Those two original shortcuts run with RTW.exe.
then its a bit freaky-ti-bi-kity ... cause the changes in ebconfig file , changed the trivial script... meaning that you can play (and so you should) use the original EB shortcuts
if its not working then... my guess would be that the trivial script isn't working for some reason and/or the changes in ebconfig file werent made/saved correctly
Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh, so the original "sp" and "mp" shortcuts that I used to start EB with before ALEX now run EB with ALEX? How can I know that EB is being run with ALEX.exe?
if you have a quick eye :P the moment you launch EB an icon should appear in the lower section of your screen, this icon should be purple... instead of RTW red
if you miss this you can always alt tab out of the game and/or open the task manager where you should be able to see if the rome total war program is using alex... or RTW icon
Good news: It's running with ALEX.
Bad news: It's CTD-ing with ALEX and giving me this error message:
https://img300.imageshack.us/img300/5813/errorda6.jpg
:inquisitive:
emm.... what if you try with my ebconfig file?
