Hope you get your orders in by Tuesday!
Wait, i already though i sent my orders? Or has there already been a chapter i've missed?
Edit: Ah, i missed it. Alright, orders coming.
Announcement from the Chancellery of the Austrian Empire
The Austrian Empire informs the foreign governments that she is worried by the unrest in the Ottoman Empire and the prolonged warfare in the area. Austria withdraws the 2 500 numbered expeditionary force from the Ottoman Empire as a gesture of good will and begins talks with the Ottoman government. The agents sent in Istanbul do not have the instructions to sign a cease-fire for the reason Austria is loyal to her allies but the talks are aimed to provide the ground for a future peace between the three allies and the Ottoman Empire.
Once again the Austrian government demonstrates its will to resolve the conflict diplomatically, not militarily. I believe the arising amount of violence in the Middle East is already a good proof for the necessity to find an alternative to the brutal force. The Danube monarchy will appreciate the help of any state, even those not amongst the five Great Powers in the process. The government of Austria also hopes that the hostilities will end during the next year.
OOC: ANother favourite theme(s) of mine. I find the first fits well to the announcement. The other fit with the desert and Eastern crisis. Ah, and I recommend the film to everyone who have not watched it.
OOC2: Good luck to everyone and hope Franconicus will reconsider his decision and stay to run the wonderful Interactive he created!

Chapter 15 –June 1830 to May 1831
The disease which stopped the fall of Istanbul last year, is now on the march into the heart of Europe. At Vienna, many citizens died before the disease ended. Other cities like Prague, Budapest, Dubrovnik Belgrade and many more are turned into places of horror.
Austrian physicians work hard to find a treatment against this new plague, but all their attempts are fruitless so far. At least, they have a theory, an assumption that the cause of this illness comes originally from Persia and came along with Russian troops. And they have a name; the physicians call the new, terrible and unknown disease CHOLERA.
The Cholera also crosses the border to Russia, causing horror and pain in the southern provinces and finally reaches Warsaw, where thousand die.
All over Europe, newspapers are spreading the alarming news and citizens as well as their governments are horrified. The poor people try to find shelter in religion and pilgrimages become very popular. The rich ones try to find help in new panaceas like a new medicament made from Egyptian mummies.
Austria tries to stop the disease with strict quarantine - with limited success. The imperial family leaves the capitol and goes to Salzburg.
The Austrian government keeps on working and passes a patent law to secure the intellectual property of inventors and signs a custom unit agreement with Bavaria. The railroad between Vienna and Bavaria is opened, although locomotives are still missing. However, a new factory for locomotives is found at Vienna and a new railroad project is started to connect Vienna and Budapest.
Newspaper report that the Imperial army starts field tests with a new infantry gun.
Russia fosters the modernization of her country. The Czar offers reforms to give more economic and personal freedom. Furthermore, he releases Poland and opens the way to a new Polish monarchy.
The Czar also increases the strength of his navy by purchasing a ship of the line from Denmark and increases his army to 85,000 men. Russian troops keep on raiding against Ottoman settlements. In spring, they begin a bigger campaign. About 8,000 Russian soldiers, mainly Cossacks and light infantry defeat a Turkish army and occupy Wallachia and Moldavia.
The new Greece monarch manages to get his administration working and tries to solve the problems at his borders. With a fleet of trade ships, Greek volunteers from the mainland cross the sea and land at the western coast of Crete. The Greek commander starts his march along the northern coastline, crushing Egyptian posts and being constantly reinforced by Crete partisans. As he marches on eastwards, Greek rebels raise in the east as well and the situation of the occupants becomes desperate. The Greek finally approach the last stand of the Moslems -Heraklion. On their way they do not bother making prisoners. Heraklion, a fortified place, stands the assaults of the Christians, but the commander is afraid, that the Greek will soon manage to cut off the connection to the sea, which would stop supply and surely end the resistance. He send messages to Egypt, asking the Sultan to evacuate his force.
Another Greek army of about 30,000 patriots starts a campaign against Constantinople, which is claimed to be a Greek town. In a bloody battle against 90,000 volunteers from Turkey, the Greek forces have to turn back. In reply, Turkish troops assault Greek cities on the Asian mainland and slaughter the citizens.
The chaotic situation at the Balkans, the Cholera and the appeals of the Mahdi end the rule of the Turkish generals. A civil war begins, with local commanders and religious leaders trying to get upper hand.
Tension between the Mahdi and Egypt grow. Both sides begin to mobilize their forces. The Mahdi mobilizes 120,000 men at Jerusalem. Additionally, his agents cause a riot against the Egyptian forces at Sudan.
Although Egypt is only able to mobilize an army of 30,000, it acts much faster and invades the territory of its enemy. Soon the troops cross the Sinai and then begin to turn north wards. The troops are accompanied and supplied by the Egyptian fleet and take Gaza and Ascalon. Here, they are attacked by the forces of the Mahdi. Pushed by religious fanatics, they storm against the Egyptian columns. However, modern guns and cannons tear big holes in their rows. When the fanatics finally reach the position of the Egyptians, their line begins to retreat. At this moment, the Egyptian commander calls the cavalry to charge the flanks and the rear of the fanatics. These cannot stand the cavalry charge and are forced to retreat. More than 20,000 stay on the battle ground. The Mahdi prepares his troops for another assault and during night he receives reinforcements from Jerusalem. Once again ten thousands run against the Egyptian stand and are welcomed by concentric fire. The Egyptians run tight of bullets and when the fanatics reach their lines, first soldiers turn to run away. Again, the Egyptian cavalry tries to stop the fanatics but new waves push her away. However, before the Egyptian lines are crushed completely, the fanatics are called back. The Mahdi gathers his troops. For the rest of the day, the two army stand and watch each others, but during night, the army of the Mahdi disappears. The Egyptian commander hardly believes that it is gone, but then he receives the news that an Egyptian forces has landed at Sidon and occupied Damascus. The Egyptian troops now hurry to follow the army of the Mahdi. After the battles of Ascalon and Damascus, many of his followers leave the Mahdi. The rest tries to turn fate at the battle Tyre, but the combined Egyption forces win this battle. The Mahdi dies from a ball from an Egyptian ship.
At Sudan, the rebellion encircles the Egyptian garrison. An army is send to break the siege, but this time the rebels win and 5,000 Egyptian soldiers are killed.
It is an awful year for the Egyptian colony at South Africa. First, it seems as if there was no rain at all this year and then it does not stop raining. Most of the harvest is destroyed and the colonists suffer from hunger. Their African neighbors suffer the same fate and during winter, several tribes all and raid the Egyptian territory. Hundred of settlers are killed and their farms are burned down. The rest gathers in the base and the governor knows that he will not be able to stand another year without support from home.
At Prussia, confusion and disorder rules. There are still demonstrations against the government. The King flees from Berlin as more and more soldiers of the guard collaborate with the protestors. The declaration of the independent realm of Poland alarms the Prussian troops. Polish demonstrates demand that their provinces become part of a united Poland. More Prussian troops are sent to keep control. That is the situation when the Cholera begins to conquer the provinces. Many people die, Prussian soldiers as well as Polish protestors. One of the victims is von Clausewitz.
Benefiting from the Prussian inactivity, France secures his position at Luxembourg. Critical incidents happen along the border to Belgium, when Belgium and French troops are involved in small combats.
France starts a military cooperation with England. France will purchase English ships and French sailors will be trained by the Royal Navy. France also begins to produce a naval gun, that is able to shoot explosive projectiles with high accuracy.
Denmark begins to set up new relationships with the other nations. It sells one sol and invests the profit in new military equipment. It makes a treaty of military cooperation with the Polish government. It begins to investigate on engines and sends engineers to Egypt. And it begins to increase the fortifications at Holstein.
Danish papers ask the government to introduce a new constitution to give more rights to citizens.
Protesters at Holstein accuse the King to prepare the entry of this provinces into the Danish state. Parties are found to support the remaining as part of the German Bund.
Denmark sends an expedition force to China to support Danish interests there. The ships with 3,000 soldiers are expected to reach China next summer.
At Italy, the movement for national unity grows. Papers spread the idea and parties gather volunteers and money. The King of the two Sicilies condemns these parties, which begin to work in the underground. In February, several thousands protest against the Austrian occupation.
Still many thousand Italians leave their country each year. There is a new society, that wants to lead this emigration to northern Africa, especially to the shores of Libya and Tunis. Here, new Italian settlements pop up.
Quite the interesting year for Egypt.
Thanks Franc for this update
One question, who owns this region of North Africa italians are settling in?
First my apologies for not being active - first work was hectic, then I have been on holiday. Can I ask if Franc is going to do one more chapter or do we send orders to Warman now?
I decided to aid with the calculations of the budget. If you have any thing you disagree, tell the host. The fleets of Prussia and Russia need to be reviewed and are not calculated, btw.

Army reserves and emergent expenditures are not included!
P.S. There is no data for Denmark
P.S. What is the income next year? Does the cholera affectthe income? Other positive/negative changes?
I think i have used over 15 million thalers to reconstruction and economical projects, since the last income figures three years a go.So i think the French income is bit more then the same level it was back then.
Give me until Monday to do the objectives. I got school and work the next 3 days and I want some time to do proper stuff. Each nation will get a PM regarding what they must,er, rather, should, since I can not force you to do squick. I'll PM everyone now regarding how many men they can recruit.
Army system- I'm putting into effect a more advance military system. Long story short.... Russia can recruit, via my thoughts, 500,000 men. If they recruit the max, which is that, then, there will be no negative per say, but it be somewhat hard on them unless they have massive workforce supporting it. Any more then that will negativley affect Russia's Military, which will lead them to revolt or if fighting, looting, which will cause more problems.
If you attack a town, I want detailed plans. Saying you want to bombard it and lauch 10,000 men on all sides at Vienna isn't enough. Do this, and you might lose. Even if you do win, don't be suprise if your generals gets killed by a sniper's bullet. In RL, battles, espcally sieges were no party, espcally in the 18th and 19th centuries.
Don't be afraid to promote certain men in your army/navy,etc....
No matter the branch. Real life or fantasy, it will give him credibilly, give him a backround as chapters go on and well.... I just love characters and contiuing storylines.
I'm in class now, so I'll send out PM's later.
Good luck! We are patient
Well, I hope this system won't radically change the system that existed so far. I believe the cost/upkeep of each soldier were the money the state paid for food/accomodation. Just an idea.Quote:

Second, I think it is a bit over ambitious to expect from us full knowledge on war tactics. In fact, the monarchs/ chancellors and etc. seldom commanded the battles in the epoch. After all, there were generals who did the strategy/tactics. IMHO we should be given at least several options from the general staff (only in the most specific situations, say when the forces are about the same size ) and in most of the cases should not be bothered with very detailed actions. For example, most of the generals are qualified enough to crush a badly organised uprising even without specific instructions.
I agree with Mister Metternich. ~;pAlso if you will go into too much detail, it will just mean lots and lots of more work for you as a host.
2 Objectives have been sent out so far. More soon to follow.
Prussia is now open to players since Subotan is inactive. Beefy187 can take over as Russia now also.
Deadline is 9/20/2010, more updates to come!
How are we going to calculate the budget for the next year? I think we should not change the existing system radically but rather slowly adjust it to the taste of the new host. To make it more clear, evolutionary approach seems to be better than the revolutionary approach. Thus we can avoid confusion.
Any thoughts, Mr. Warman?
Could you please send me the details of Russia? Like diplomacy state, army strength, economy etc.
Otherwise I won't know what to do.
Cheers
Crap, I forgot all about the deadline today. My most sincere apologies.
I'll get my orders done ASAP.
What deadline - I am still waiting for a PM from Warman objectives etc - I can't start talking to others until I know what he wants etc.
Yeah, i also still need the objectives.
Pushing the deadline back until Friday.
Going to have to drop this. To much on my plate. I am better as a player then I am host.
At least you tried.
So this IH has an open ending. Who knows? Perhaps Franc may one day pick it.
Personally, I will dedicate the leisure time on Real Life issues, other projects and recharge my batteries. These mutli-player IH are really time consuming so perhaps this will be my last big IH for the next one-two years. I may also appear occasionally in Franc's single player IH, which is really intriguing.
Thanks to everyone I have played with. Once again
Hate looking like a failure (which I know I am one anyhow :laugh4::no:), but IH's are so hard to run.
Maybe this one will be back.
I am waiting for Kagemusha's IH. Hope he brings his back would keep me busy then.
Thanks Fran for a nice IH.
Thats a shame. I've never got a good go at this game.
Thanks for hosting Warman  And Franc before that.
It must be a tough one to host.
Out of interest, what is happening behind the scene? Like how does one host an IH?
Howdy all,
I am going to see if I can re-host the CoE IH with Mister Fran's permission. If I do, I hope you all will rejoin it!
