Komninos, any room for a Yficratian/Later Hoplite? They're ready with a type of right arm charge/fight adapted for a long spear.

Hi flip,
Yes there is space for them ... but make the figh and charge action with a low grip. The spear is a 4.5m pike for them. I will also try to send you a frame from them too.
I've successfully installed HTW (It looks marvellous. However, when I get to the installation of the "startpos fix", it all becomes greek to me (pardon my pun). The result is that I choose to play as Athens and my opening position is the Italian penninsula and I have ships on dry land, etc. I have copied all three files to the"campaign startpos" folder.........then I am stuck. I can't even find "textures/campaign/hellenic" and I haven't a clue as how to convert "mapTex.jpg" and Tex2.jpg to TGA format. I don't even know what you mean. I installed IrFanview but haven't got a clue as how to use it.
Could someone take me by the hand and walk with me? I have WinXP.
No problem:
Go into your HTW maindirectory: Open the "Textures" - folder, than open in in this folder the "campmap" folder, than in it the "Hellenic" folder.
In this Hellenic folder are two images in jpg-format.You must convert them with IrfanView to TGA-format:
Open the "MapTex.jpg" with IrfanView and go there to the "File" section, choose there "save as" and choose than there "TGA - Truevision Targa".
Now use as installations path (where your tga than is) the same folder (Textures/campmap/Hellenic-folder) and save it.
Make the same with "MapTex2".
Have you thought about making a later peltast also? I'm assuming one of you has the book "Warfare in the Classical World." since several of the illustrations in this book are in the game, and the book describes Peltasts around the time of Alexander as having:
-Reasonable helmets.
-A longer spear along with his javelins to enable him to better defend himself.
-Some body armor.
-A larger oval shield, that could be made of hide-covered wood.
The peltasts seem to be heavier, but a more able group of light infantry. I don't really even want to see them in the game, I'm just throwing some suggestions out there.
Made some changes to the site,i hope you all like it http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cg...icons/wave.gif

Antalis...........I'M OK NOW Between you and some help at .com, I've got it all under control. Thanks a lot for the quick response, and I've gotta' tell ya', HTW looks like a whole new game. Wotta' labor of love. Nothin' cooler than hoplite warfare.
I haven't played MTW in 4 or 5 months. It looks like I'm now right back into it.

However - when I try to do so for your Hellenic MOD - I am having problems. The BDF is OK it works and shows up OK in the Historical Battles slot. However, the units portraits (Later_Hoplites etc.) that I specify in the appropriate ADF DO NOT display in the appropriate UNIT slot - NO unit portraits are displayed at all. If I click on fight battle - I crash to the desktop.
I am running Hellenic MOD ver 2.01 and have applied the STARTPOS batch and SMALLPATCH fixes found on your Helenic website.
Please - any information you might have to stear me towards a solution would be greatly appreciated.

komninos,
I had indeed made the Yficratian hoplites with charge, fight low grip. I'll, send you the bif today. Actions page coordinates same as CL_Hoplite. Just readjust weapon positions. I may do that if you're have'nt time.
For the DA_ Unit I'll try to raze the plumes manually in the bif and see what gives.
I guess you meant unit icons with portraits, right?Quote:

I guess you have written an unit-name wrong (one letter is enough).
Use the gnome editor and check, if every unit is spelled right.
Or you have given to many men to the units (I guess 200? is the limit).
btw: kom:
Can you send me the macedonian units (also the unitprod), so that I can work on, on the historical battles?
Currently I´m working on some more maps.
Specially flat and hillymaps.
Flip, your units ontinue to excite me, well done. Wish i could make some of that quality http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cg...s/bigthumb.gif http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cg...ons/cheers.gif
Hi all,
Mummer,
For the Late triplet that leads to the Hellenistic Era I have a set of new peltast units.
So there are going to be Thorakites (similar to legioners) and I might do Romfeofori (similar to thorakites but lighter.
You will see them in the new Betta http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cg...icons/wink.gif
Flip,
I have remade the units ... now the Dark Age have two files. I also include the files of Shields and Weapons. I have remade some of the coordinates basically raised the shields at standing fixed other heights.
For the Polemiste I have made the shield oval as it was. Also for the Polemiste make an AIM.TXT and in it put 1 this is the aiming posture.
I´ve adapted my "The Throne" - map to HTW and made some new maps in the last days:

i dont understand the installation for this, can you help me out?
What exactly don´t you understand?
Its not very diffficult, believe me: Unzipping to MTW and converting two jpgs to tga format and patches.
I just altered the installation instructions on the site to make them easier to understand, added links for programs you maybe don't have,so please read them first and don't panic if your computer knowledge is limited it is not difficult if you follow the instructions.Like Antalis said what is it that you don't understand,be more specific so we can help you.

Alright, as promised, here are three faction descriptions. I picked the most ...obvious ones for the start and prolly until the next week you'll have three or four more. By the pace of the project, I believe I can have all 14 ready for the first non-beta release.
In order to make those descriptions better, your feedback (and I mean all of you) is required. Especially gameplay-wise, as I haven't played much with HTW - or with MTW in general anyway. Gameplay tips (like those in the original MTW descriptions) and labels as "easy" or "fairly hard" or whatever.

All 3 texts are more then good written.
I have nothing to critisice.
About the gameplay and unitstraingth, I think komninos is a better source then I am.
I for my part would add these txts without changes to the mod.
They are wonderful.
You are really a historian and you was and are again with this descriptions a very important part of the HTW - mod.
Antalis http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cg...ons/cheers.gif
Totally agree with Antalis, concerning gameplay it is difficult to give an estimate about it,so many things will change in this new release, think it is Kom who will have to answer that one.Nice work Rosacrux http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cg...s/bigthumb.gif

I've only had a chance to skim the three faction descriptions, but they look really good and very informative, filling in some of the almost total blank I know about Greek history.
One question, in the Main Campaign are the Spartans under a different name http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cg...ns/gc-help.gif ? I've tried playing in the first two periods and the Spartans don't seem to be an available faction, so I was wondering if they were under a different name? http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cg...ns/gc-lost.gif
Having now been playing the MOD for over a week I have to say that I am really enjoying it, even though I'm not familiar with the Historical period its based on.
In one battle in the early period my Athenian army were at a stalemate against an opposing army who had the advantage that they were up the hill, so I was having to push uphill. I send my single unit of Enamotia Hopoliton (sp?) into the center and they just forced their way straight through the enemy lines. While they may be slow their relentless:)
Thanks to everyone whose made this MOD, I'm really enjoying myself playing it.
Anyways, back to the war http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cg...c-glasses2.gif
The Lakedemonians(Region)is there historically correct name.Nowadays we refer them as the Spartans(capital).
http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cg...gc-curtain.gif CzoF
Ah, thanks Zimoa. Okay now I know who to play next:)
Oh, one other question http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cg...s/gc-book2.gif
Are there region specific bonuses? Like how in the main game Highland Clansmen are Valour +1 if built in Scotland, or Longbowman in Wales etc?
No(not)yet, but the various factions have there special units, they can only build in some of there home provinces like Thebes(Beotians),Athens and especially Lakedemonians(Sparta) have very strong Hoplites, the Thessalians and Macedonians good Cav and Persians have good archers and Cav,and bigger armies, the mod is as you know a beta so a lot will be better explained in the new release(faction descriptions like Rosacrux is working on etc...).If you want to have a grasp of ancient Greek warfare go to the site and read the unit, game and history pages, then you will have enough info to grasp the history of Ancient warfare and play the mod better understanding the units.
Tip:read the unit descriptions in game

i understand the part where u unzip but i dont understand this, converting two jpgs to tga format and patches.
http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cg...s/confused.gif
Rosacrux,
Excellent as always ... http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cg...s/bigthumb.gif
You forgot only one more back part in the Spartans.
There victory over Athens was later considered blasphemous since to achieve it they used Persian gold and the treaty sinned was equivalent to treason for the Greek city-states. This victory was also possible to the constant decrease of the Athenian influence to its satellite states since the alliance turned to dominance. Athenians was cornered both by the Boeoteans and the Spartans.
Julius Caesar
Converting is done by opening the two map files with ACDSee or Irfanview and then using the SAVA AS function you save them as TGA type.
The patch for the start post is done by unzipping the file in the /campmap/startpos directory and the CTD patch in the main directory.
I just made some adjustments to the site especially all the .txt files and some graphics, think the site is much clearer now.Ok the part of the CTD-patch leave it for now, maybe you don't have this problemNow transforming the two files "MapTex.jpeg" and "MapTex2.jpeg",first download and install "IrfanView",link is on the download section.Go to "My computer" select your "Local Disc"( main drive, probably C:),go to the folder "Program Files",go to the folder "Total War",select MTW:Viking Invasion(i will use "HTW" as an example,if you have installed it somewhere else and you gave the install a different name go there of course)Open the "HTW" file, now open the "Textures" folder, open the "Campmap" folder, open the "Hellenic" folder. Here you see the two files now click on "MapTex.jpeg "with your right mouse button, select "Open with" select "IrfanView".Now you should see the map, go to the "File" section and select "Save as" keep the "Name" MapTex in the "Save as type" select TGA above you see a "Save in" make sure this is set on the same folder your original jpeg files where in,so as an example in this case Local disc/Program Files/Total War/HTW/Textures/Campmap/Hellenic.Now push the Save button and do the same with MapTex2.
Good luck

@Rosacrux,
When you are finished with the faction descriptions can you mail me, i will put hem on the history page of the HTW site.
@Komninos
The same for the new Dark Age era description. If you have time for the unit-animations(no hurry please),i can make an overview of all the units and put them on the site with the appropriate unit descriptions behind them.
@Antalis
I,ve got some very good text and pictures ready for the Persian War(Marathon,Thermophylae and Plataeae) expansion, think i will make a "Battles" page,if you are all ok of course...
