Bah! Rubbish! Remember that time they said it would snow?

OK. I seem to have a little problem. Underneath my burdock piling, I'm making a farm. Trouble is, I have not seen a cow or a pig on my island. Even worse, there is hardly any space to manoeuvre the mobs.
Any suggestions?
Portals once we upgrade.
Or a rail line. Or some annoying swimming. Getting the first pairs of pigs, cows, and sheep is always annoying. They don't typically spawn underground either. :2thumbsup:
The first Bukkit dev build for 1.4.2 has been released, but it's apparently very buggy and the team does not recommend it for anything other than test servers. I'm going to hold of an updating for a little while longer to give them some more time to do basic bug fixes.
I've completed a projected I put off for a while: a supercharged XP farm. With the Silk Spawners mod, I harvested 3 spawners from around my base and built a triple farm with them. It works like the usual kind, but I've got three separate spawning rooms arranged around a central safe room, all dumping into a single drop chute. Each room has a toggleable lighting system as well, so that spawns can be stopped and started at will. Since there are three separate spawners which are all activated from the single safe room, it produces mobs three times as fast as normal. I just did a test run from 0xp and a cold start (lights on, no mobs in the system), and here were the results:
5 minutes = Level 14
10 minutes = Level 24
15 minutes = Level 28
19 minutes - Level 30
If anyone want to level up fast, you're welcome to use the system. It's in my Day (Gold) Annex. Just hit the button in front of each room to turn the lights off inside and start it up. I am currently using one skeleton spawner and two zombie spawners. I'd eventually like to turn it into three skeleton spawners, but I haven't found any additional skeleton spawners. If anyone finds one that you don't mind me harvesting, please let me know.
I found multiple spider spawners but will let you know. No power right now but I can see lights across the street. Very frustrating.
I finally got around to exploring the Stronghold on the island near the spawn area. I've built a rail station there and will be laying a track to wherever the nearest station is, probably the town hall.
Finished a Nether rail system to my new place on the rim. It barely works and you may hit a zombie pigman throwing you in the opposite direction but it's better than walking all the way. I just need a plan for the place now...
I saw a good thread on the Curse forums where a guy renovated a stronghold. It looked nice and I wonder if one can be turned into a village complete with market.
When I saw your elevator, I noticed how massive the circuitry is. I don't know if this will help, but it is a hell of a lot more compact.

Anyone is welcome to do what they want to it. The rail line to the stronghold is complete, and it connects to the noob hotel. You can see it on the map now (I'll update the rail map later... it needs a complete re-do). The rail station is right next to the End Portal inside the stronghold, for convenience, though the portal still needs two more eyes of ender before it will work. I've lit most of the stronghold so it should be relatively safe, though I suspect there are a lot of silverfish blocks left around.
I haven't found a tutorial for a zipper style that works on SMP, and the comments on that one indicate it doesn't either. The one I built was awesome, and worked as intended... but server lag issues made it unworkable for the same reason as the rest. I disassembled it because there was no way to fix it. The only version I've ever seen that appears to work consistently on server is this ugly-as-sin pressure plate style:

You can find a lot of videos of that kind of elevator out there, and it's what I would propose using. It's very compact and resource efficient. While it's perhaps not nice enough for me to put in my own base (I have high standards for my in-house redstone devices), I think it would be the best choice for a space needle design. Since it's up-only, it requires a plunge pool to descend quickly.
That's a project that's on my to-do list, but it wasn't why I asked. I just tend to use a ton of redstone in general. I like to automate everything I can, just for fun. The stuff I build these days tends to use a lot of repeaters, and each repeater uses up 3 redstone dust, so I go through it quickly. I've reclaimed about two stacks of repeaters by scrapping my elevator, but I'm still low on the actual dust.
Bukkit has released a beta build for 1.4.2. While it is still got some bugs, the team proclaim them to be relatively minor and for the overall build to be stable. As such, I am going to upgrade the server to that version tonight. The server will be offline for a short while when I do this, and I may be rebooting it several times to test any plugin compatibility issues that arise.
[edit] The server is now running 1.4.2. Please let me know if you see any bugs. FYI, the current release of Bukkit has this note on it:
Quote:
Monsters, villagers, etc. using portals (added in Minecraft 1.4) has been temporarily disabled.
Whoa! Who built that pyramid in the middle of the ocean at X = 1639 Z = 4857?
Nice lighting pattern. Looks like someone likes the sand generator.
LOL, that was therother. He did that probably about four months ago but didn't say anything about it because he wanted to see who would notice. I think I was the only one until now. I tend to survey the map in night mod heavily zoomed out to find new constructions, which is how I located it.
So, pigs are no longer turned on my wheat. But so far, I have not found a single carrot. I heard they can be dropped by zombies rarely, but I have had no such luck. If any one has any left over carrots that they are willing to part with, I will be grateful. I only need one for cultivation.
The one to the south of my place (don't worry, I've found the portal now).
Apologies for my inactivity of late - I've been idly considering a few plans, but still haven't really decided what I'll be doing next. My complete inability to design anything more complex than basic geometric shapes does not help in this regards .
