Re: Soviet Mafia: a small game
Elite Ferret sat nervously in his lounge, not daring to sleep. Despite Proletariat's fierce resistance during the attempted arrest, he wasn't convinced that she was the actual traitor. With his rifle laying on his lap, he counted the hours until morning. It was about 3:00 at that moment.
Occasionally he could hear some traffic - probably Russian soldiers moving out to quell the unrest that was plaguing the city and the countryside. There had been disturbances as soon as the assassinations had started, but now that the Soviet was down to three members (one of wich was probably the traitor) it wouldn't be an overstatement to speak of a nascent uprising.
A truck could be heard approaching. Then it slowed down, just before Elite Ferret's house, and from the sound of it it was turning. Should I go outside to see what was going on? he thought.
The truck was on the move again, picking up speed and getting closer. Elite Ferret had the good sense to move to the farthest back of the house, moments before the truck crashed through the walls and came to full stop in the lounge.
Dammit, I dropped my rifle! Elite ferret realized with sudden shock. He unlocked the back door and made a run for it through the garden. His assailant was to quick though, and shot him in the lower back. Elite Ferret dropped on the ground and panted heavily. Turning around, he catched a glimpse of the traitor in the pale moonlight before it all ended.
Re: Soviet Mafia: a small game
The following morning, a special guest arrived at pevergreen's house. Having seen who it was through the spy glass in the door, pevergreen opened the door.
"Marshall Fenring, what are you doing here?" pevergreen asked. He hoped it would be good news; yet he had an ominous feeling about it. Fenring's face looked sullen.
"Comrade Pevergreen, we have to leave at once. Quintus J. Cicero is the traitor and last night he killed your collegue Elite Ferret. The entire country is up in arms and the outer provinces have declared themselves autonomous. As the last surviving member of the legitimate government, I have to get you to safety."
"I'll get some of my belongings..." began Pevergreen before Fenring cut him short.
"No time! Half of my personal guard is tied up in the eastern outskirts of the city. If some angry mob catches us before we reach the airport, we may be overwhelmed."
The pair got into the Marshall's armoured car and speeded off, preceeded and followed by a few escort cars. When they were about halfway there pevergreen could see the signs of the revolution in progress. In some sidestreets armed rebels could be seen exchanging fire with Russian soldiers; who were better equiped but obviously outnumbered.
"Watch out! Ambush!" Pevergreen cried, pointing forward. Some trucks and tractors emerged from side streets about 40 metres ahead and blocked the road. Fenring had seen it too, and took an abrubt left turn. Dozens of people stormed out of the buildings and attacked the two military cars wich had previously been taking point.
"Faster! Faster!" Pevergreen cried franticly.
"I don't think crashing into an obstacle is much better then being lynched." Fenring replied dryly, then took a sharp turn to the right. The two escort cars behind them still followed and were exchanging gunfire with pursuers.
"Almost there!" said Fenring as they cleared the city limits, with the airfield about 3 miles ahead. Then the full knowledge of defeat hit them both as a hammer. A cloud of black smoke could be seen in the distance; the plumes originating at the smoldering ashes of the airport. Pevergreen could see some verhicles approaching in the distance. From the looks of it they were armoured cars, but he guessed correctly that the occupants weren't Russians. When he looked through the rear window he could see that the rear escorts were gone...
Roles in this game:
QuintusJ.Cicero was an anarchist who had infiltrated the Soviet in order to destroy it. There was a 1/4 chance of failing included in each kill. However the attempt on pevergreen was deliberately failed on his request. The other kills all turned out succesfull, luckily for him.
Proletariat, El Diablo and Sarathos had a special role: opportunis / aspiring dictator. They would win if they had eventually eliminated the traitor, but only if they had eliminated a political opponent before that. For Proletariat that was Sarathos, for Sarathos it was El Diablo and for El Diablo it was Proletariat. This was meant to ballance Quintus' chance of failure in assassination by frustrating the Soviet's attempts at catching the traitor early.
The other ones were all regular townies, or "marxist-leninists" as I labeled them.
Thank you for playing
