{tetrere_fleet} Tetrere Fleet
{tetrere_fleet_descr}
\n\n Tetrere is very powerful warship, inferior only to mighty penteres and some rare bigger ships. Ho Basileos, people who seem credibe claim that first four row warships were built by skilled shipwrights from Kart Hadaszt. We also know that as early as two years after 95th Olimpiade (398 BC) Dionysos, tyranos of Syracusai had those in his fleet. Since then they are part of any mighty fleet. If You think of achieving Thalassokratia You should consider reinforcing Your navy with many of those. \n\nAlthough tetreres were the bulk of many hellenistic fleets its costruction is still uncertain. The most probable recontruction states that it has two rows of oars manned by two oarsmen each. The size is also uncertain, but the biggest Athenian docks mesured 37x6 metres. This may suggest that this was the size of the "4" (tetrere) and "5" (pentere) - the biggest ships we know Athens had. If this is true, the crew of tetrere would consist of 232 men operating 116 oars. Some iconography suggest that tetrere was completely boxed-in - had full deck and covered sides, also being two rowed this ship doesn't need outtriggers. On longer voyages, if the wind blowed from behind sails were used (main on the central mast and additional on small mast on the ship's front). The ship was armed with ram, it has also boarding crew of somewhere below 40 men, while the ship was capable of carrying additional 60-80 men. Later some were armed with catapults or balistas.

Re: EB Help Required Thread
Sure man. ~:)
Did 3 of them.
Getai Wooden Wall
A rough, wooden wall is a better defence than a palisade of stakes
and the Getai were experts at building wood and later even stone defences.
Better than a crude palisade, and reinforced in the weaker parts of the wall,
It will delay an enemy force breaking into the settlement, but organised Getai tribes will surely break in easily. Wood can be easily burnt down with flaming arrows, and this was a major setback, because the Getai were expert archers. Later, the Getai built stone defences for their cities and sacred places. The rough wall also keeps in livestock and grain, and also improving the walls will add grain stores to extend the time
a settlement can resist a siege.
Getai Palisade
A wall of logs around a settlement gives a sense of security,
and Getai were experts at building wood and even stone defences.
Although it's only a crude palisade, which cannot delay attackers for long,
the necessity urged the Getai to build stronger palisades, because of constant turmoil in these lands, especially attacks from other Getai tribes.
A crude palisade like this is cheap and easy to build, and will provide some basic defence but determined attackers will easily destroy these defences.
Getai Sedentary Farming
Agriculture was the most important way of gaining money in these periods.
Before the Getai established trade routes to the Greek fortified colonies on the bank of the Pontus Euxinus, agriculture was the only way of living.
Advanced tools were rare at that period, so the sedentary farming was established. This was basically subsistence farming, where people can only just feed themselves and their families.
Hope you like them. ~:)

Oh BTW, any other help needed?!(basic coding...)
And how's the tech tree going?!

Re: EB Help Required Thread
edzy,
The descriptions are pretty good, but I'd say that a little bit more of a faction-specific touch would make them just right. As it is now, another faction name could be inserted and they'd just about work for them too. The last one of the ones you did is the best in this respect, but it's also the shortest. If we had a little more material that might tie into more who they are, I think we could definitely use them.
If you could do this type of thing then for more buildings, we can certainly keep working on this together too. This faction will be helped a lot with some more building touches like this. ~:cheers:
I'll try to get you some more possible ones to work on too.

Re: EB Help Required Thread
Could I ask do you like mine tetrere descr?

Sure man. Try to gather some more info, but that's about it. Apart from the stone walls they used, there's not really too much info bout the Dacians(Getai) at the starting date.
What else needed?!(even modding...)

Re: EB Help Required Thread
Do you still need help in writing descriptions ? I have noticed that most of Carthaginians buildings have no descriptions, I could try to do that...just let me know if you are interested.

Re: EB Help Required Thread
another desc - Pentere
{pentere_fleet} Pentere Fleet
{pentere_fleet_descr}
\n\n This is a true rudiment of thalasokratia Ho Basileos! The fleet of mighty penterai is the best our shipwrights can build. Historians claim that it was Syracusai tyranos Dionisos who built first penterai, as he had some two years before 95th Olimpiade (398BC). The fleet will also be acompanied by some even bigger ships (like hexerai or hepterai) to serve as flagships and to threaten Your enemy. If You have these, and more ships than Your enemy, You will be crowned by Nike in short time! \n\n There are numerous attempts to reconstruct pentere. Some scientists believe that it had 2 rows of oars manned (from the deck) 3-2, others state that 3 rows of oars are more probable manned either 1-2-2 or 2-2-1, some even mention single level with 5 oarsmen. Three level theory seems the most probable as we have information that "5" was much higher than "4". Single source menions even that it was possible to buld pentere on the hull designed to be tetrere - this is the main argument for single manned, probably open third level on outtriggers - just like this on triere. Available info suggest also that "5"s were about the same lenght and width than "4"s - 37x6m. The crew consisted of 300 oarsmen operating (3row scheme) 184 oars. The ship carried 40 marines but could accomodate 80 soliders more, as it had full deck. These ships were armed with balistas of various sizes, but the ram was still main weapon. As every greek warship it had sails that were used during longer voyages.

These ships are the true rudiment of thalasokratia Ho Basileos!

Re: EB Help Required Thread
Triere
{triere_fleet} Triere Fleet
{triere_fleet_descr}
\n\n This is an ancient ship Ho Basileos! And famous. Great historian Thukidydes claim that the first of those were built in korynthian docks by a shipwright Ameinocles during theire war with Korkyra (dates varies betwen late VIII till half VI century BC). At first they were rare, but as the days passed by more and more states used them. Just two years before persian king - hope he lays in the deepes deeps of Tartar - Xerxes attempted to enslave Hellenoi athenoi decided to built 200 of them. In the great battles near Artemision and Salamis trierai formed the bulk of both fleets. The years had passed and the ships bacame a bit obsolete, but are still very efficient.\n\n Unlike the other ancient ships we know how trirere looked quite well due to some very detailed reliefs and vase painting. The ship probably mesured around 35x4.8m - it's the size of docs excavated in Pireus. ship had three rows of single manned oars on each side. Two lower rows (thalamioi - lowest and zygioi - middle level)) were inside the hull, while the highest (thramitai) on open outtriggers. Deck wasn't covering whole width of the ship - probably only the hull width (some late trierai are called cataphraktoi and this mean probably that those had full deck). The crew consisted of 200 men, including 170 oarsmen (54 on both in-hull levels, 62 on the highest) and 30 officers, sailors and marines. We know that Athenian ships had 4 archers and 10 hoplites on board. Triere was primarly designed for ramming attacks so it was very manevrouable at the cost of seaworthines - in choppy sea they were strugleing. As mentioned the ram was triere's main weapon, but we may assume that later full deck ones carried few marines more or smaller balistas.
As other ancient ships trieres had two sails for longer voyages - main on the central mast and additional on small front mast.
{triere_fleet_descr_short}
Ancient and famous trierai are still very usefull ships.

Re: EB Help Required Thread
Etairos - The fleet descriptions will need some editing, but I hope that you can work with us more on these. We will get someone working on these more directly to contact you and work on these.
Edyz - Did you do anything else on those walls or any other Getai ones? We're interested, but would like to see if you can provide a little more to beef them up a bit.
Spendios - I'm not sure what our Carthaginian work looks like right now. I need to see if someone else can answer questions and help answer you more directly. (edit: VandalCarthage was going to work last weekend on our Carthaginian descriptions - I don't know how far he got along in the process but when I hear back I'll post here).

Re: EB Help Required Thread
Teleklos,
I've edited the description of the walls a bit. I'll do the description of the stone walls. Coming in tommorrow, with the edits.

Re: EB Help Required Thread
Do you have any coordination or correlation work that needs doing, like putting together a building/unit guide?
-
Re: EB Help Required Thread
Is there any monkey work I can do? I have minimal skills in programming and have never skinned or modelled.

Yes. We need someone to put together a unit guide. This requires lots of time and activity, and the ability not to be frustrated by the inability to reach people who have to give comments to make this work. It will be many hours of work. Interested?

How much time and how active can you be? I've brought in three people for a specific task and they've all balked at how massive it is.

Re: EB Help Required Thread
Ofcourse im interested, Ive got long empty weekends and weeknights and nothing to fill it with, i like doing stuff like that, slicing things together.
Does this also means i can have a Europa babarorum Member Sig Picture? (NOt that it matters)
-
Re: EB Help Required Thread
Khlevan, unit guide would be less hard work if somebody could make people post what they actualy can recruit in which province with which buildings in they're campains - like AI expasion thread - I tried to start this in my Unit list thread, but it was faliture. So maybe if somebody from the team will help ...

Re: EB Help Required Thread
Well, I'm currently unemployed (out of school and looking for a job). So I'm not tied down. Once I get a job I can still devote some time in the evening.
If there is any work that the real EB members can't be bothered to do, I would like to take a crack at it.

Re: EB Help Required Thread
I uploaded better sprites for the rorarii unit over at twcenter in the bugs threat. If you want me to do more just sent me a message and a list of units which need new ones.

Re: EB Help Required Thread
So is there anything I can help with?

Re: EB Help Required Thread
Hehe. Sorry guys. Apparently one of the things we could use help with is keeping in good contact with the people we could use help from. We'll get this remedied very soon - just bear with us a bit.:shame: :grin:

Re: EB Help Required Thread
I'm also interested in helping if there is room. Khelvan, what is the nature of the massive task?

Re: EB Help Required Thread
Hi, I here you need help in this mod. I've been following your countdowns and recently downloaded the open beta. It blew me away and inspired me to get on my ass and offer you my fairly advanced texting skills (I here that a new faction is coming in to replace the yuezhi). I also have an innnate understanding of gameplay so can balance games and I have a fair understanding of ancient history (mainly centered around the British Tribes). I can mod for on average one - two hours a night and more on weekends. However, in May I do have my GCSE's so may be dormant for a short period then. Plz plz plz let me join, i'll do (almost) anything...

@ Blacksnail:
It depens, some are things like gathering and updating information and putting these in excel sheets but it could be something completly different.
If you are interested in helping EB, how much time do you have, and what modding capabilties or other capabilities do you have?
@ Berserker king:
thank you for your intrest in helping us , what modding capabilities do you have? Are there any specific tasks or thing you're are intrested in and think you can help us with?
@ Nic:
thank you for you're offer. What do you think you ca help us with? Will you have a lot of time?
Thanks to everybody who offered his help and showing intrest in our project. I know every Eb member apprectiates it.

Re: EB Help Required Thread
I'm reading history at University and have a little free time (but not a huge amount). I could do descriptions and perhaps a little research for factions. Just let me know if I could help with anything specific.

I have a full-time job so I'm limited, but can devote some time if there's room for me. I'd be better with longer term, self-motivated tasks that required weekly or biweekly communication as opposed to daily or hourly.
One thing I did notice is a lot of issues with the text of the unit/building descriptions - grammar, clarity, or even spelling errors. I'd be very interested in working on this stuff, as I think a lot of conceptual problems people have with how the EB stuff works can be cleared up by cleaning up the language. I don't currently have the time to do the proper amount of research, but if somebody provides basic facts for a unit, building, or the historical messages I could develop the required content.
I have no real interest in modeling/skinning but I do have a lot of Photoshop experience. I'm not an artist by any means but I can certainly produce content from the existing - for example, more of those loading screens. I am moderately familiar with the various text files in the Data directory and have a sense of how they all fit together.
If none of this really applies I am fine with updating Excel spreadsheets or working on the unit guide, though ultimately I'd prefer editorial/writing work first and Photoshop work second. Still, I'm fine doing whatever allows for mostly self-motivated tasks.

What factions would you be able to do discriptions for? And how much time do you really have? Are there also other thing you could help us with?
@BLACKSNAIL:
I'm asking kull if you could help him. I'll pm you when I get an awser.
