I cant see grim tidings of chapter 17.
Mind uploading it again?
Yeah, I agree. Also I think some of the battles may be a bit repetive since the Brutii have so many men.Quote:

Hope this helps stop the last installments getting boring!
Upxl, can you see Chapter 17 ok now? It seems to work for me.

See you all again next time for the dash to the danube!
Another excellent installment and good idea with the battle ratings.
Nellup
Well Barbarossa, you have truly made my Sunday - first EB 0.81 was released and now another installment of your amazing AAR to complete the day
Good luck with bashing 'em Romans!
Well written again.
The only criticism I'd put forward is I've noticed that many battles just seem to be heavily one sided in your favour and the kind of heroic/clear victories that are so commonplace in RTW that they're not that noteworthy after a while, not unless the enemy king is killed or something. You've basically reached steamroller mode where the enemy resistance is only a mere inconvenience to you taking over the rest of the world. Aside from deliberately taking risks or what have you, I suppose at this stage of the tale there's not a lot you can do about it.
I had a few ideas what I'd do if I were writing such a thing, but then I doubt I'd get as far as you have. Thirty regions is typically more than enough for me.
You're right, quite a few of the battles do turn out one-sided, although both of the ones in the current chapter had the Armenians as underdogs to begin with. As you say, with this number of provinces you are not going to be in the situation where you are running out of men or money in the long term, although I did manage to lose those two provinces in Europe to the Brutii.Quote:

Do let me know any advice/feedback you have on making the final chapters interesting though.
Play blindfolded: turn your monitor off. At this stage doing anything else is just cheating! ~;p
Always great to see another installment my friend! Its a bit earlier in the week than i expected, but thats just a bonus!!
Incidently ive just started a new campaign on RTG as the Bruttii, which is a bit odd as i didnt even think of this AAR lol!
Anyways, bring on the next thrashing of the romans!!
Once again ... ... nicely done Barbarossa. In addtion to being entertained, I continue to follow your AAR very closely as I'm learning from your applied tactics in the field.
I've just started a Parthian campaign - which, as you know, is very reliant upon cavalry and horse archers. In the early going, money is hard to come by and the infantry aren't worth a crap. Having played several Roman faction campaigns, I find that I'm having to re-train myself in battlefield tactics. Consequently, what you do with specialized cavalry is of great interest to me. However, I don't think that the Parthians ever have ready access to phalanx units (much to my dismay). ~:mecry:
I'm glad I chose the Germans over the Parthians. I'm having a lotta fun and if I was Parthia I'd prolly still only have the two provinces :sweatdrop:
Barbarossa, each time I feast my eyes on your work I see major flaws in my own. Yer an inspiration. Keep it up!
Parthia is fun to play, and forces you to adopt a very different fighting style to normal. I have played a full Parthian campaign right to the end, and I found Persian Cavalry to be a superb unit given their cost and 1-turn build time. My tactics as Parthia were to produce full-stack armies with the following composition:Quote:

I found this to be quite capable of taking on any enemy, including Scipii full stacks with silver upgraded Praetorians and Urbans. The PCs get split into two brigades, one on each flank, and line up as "firing squads" to pour arrows into the enemy from the flanks. Either the enemy splits is force to deal with them and loses cohesion, or it ignores them and presses on towards your infantry line, allowing the PCs to shoot them up as they trudge on. The PCs can deal with light and medium cavalry in melee if the enemy sends them out. As the enemy approach your infantry, they come under onager fire, and then archer fire, and are then held by the Eastern Infantry (on guard mode) and pummelled on the flanks by the Cataphracts and your General. By the time they leg it, your PCs have been resting for a while and are in perfect position to intercept and ride down the routers. Great fun!
Now for some more Armenian history. Let me be honest, this chapter isn't very interesting. The battles aren't that great. If you want to skip it and save your attention for the cooler battles coming up towards the end of the campaign, here's a brief summary of what happened:

Double post. The internet and I are not friends today.
I'm a reader type instead of a poster. But I've played RTW for about 2 years. After reading 18 chapters to date, I feel like I've missed a bigger part of the game that gets lost in the grind of the late game.
I created an account just to post about how much I've enjoy this thread.

Another quality installement, i never considered that the AAR would have to end *bursts into tears*, ah well, bring on the final show-down my friend :D
Welcome scerpi!
Another great instalment Barbarossa!
can see it fine now, tnx Barbarossa.
bad news is I cant seem to open part 2 of chapter 16
Apparently this is due to the pornographic content.
Or, so says the security network at work. :inquisitive:
pls stay clear of erotic images and juicy RTW screens in you’re Aar Barbarossa or this devotee wont be able to read them any longer.

Upxl, it seems that your security policy might need to be tweaked. The image is fine :laugh4:
What the...? :laugh4: There's less explicit adult content in that page than there is in one line of Ovid. Either your filter objects to the word "courtesans", in which case you probably can't read this, or it thought the graphics looked like flesh tones. Weird.Quote:

I guess its a give and take situation now. We are getting the chapters faster than before, but at the cost of it drawing to a close. Its been great reading these Barbarossa! I tried to get you the best RTW battle write up, but to no avail. I would have liked to see this story get a medal some day.
I got this message earlier today as well, though now it's gone. Maybe someone was offended by all the pedophilia going on in the story.Quote:

Ouch! Shame about Porolissum. Tis funny, I just captured that city on my German campaign.

Barbarossa82 just reported a heroic victory of Solitaire over Minesweeper. Notepad finally succumbed to the vicious onslaught of Internet Exploder. DrWatson, the fearless leader of Start Menu, died after a long bout with Command Prompt. :no:Quote:

Keep em coming my friend!
Another good episode. I actually enjoy reading the defeats more than the victories, however. Whether it's the unpredictability of the outcome, or the defiance to the end, it makes for a good read.
One thing I've noticed now I've started to take take more interest in the story (I admit I probably didn't read most of the first dozen or so chapters), that you have a great ability to recall previous events; the relations of one character to another long since dead; former family member's achievements etc etc. Do you constantly keep a record of everything or are you just remembering the best you can? I just recall once thinking of writing a story about a Numidian campaign way back a year and a half or so. I was running through the campaign in my head on the way back home one day, and thought I'd remembered everything right and had a great story. I never wrote it when I returned, but later I was browsing through my old saved games and realised I'd completely got confused with a couple of crucial family members which would have stuffed up the story entirely!
I'm really itching to start my own Dacian campaign story now, but there's still so much work to be done on my mod before it is fully playable. And I don't help myself by starting test campaigns along the way and getting really into them! Oh and Galactic Civilisations 2 has been taking up the rest of my time.
Excelent work, love reading every bit of it.
How is the status whit your new PC? because I would love to see you doing a Hayasdan AAR in 0.81.
Thanks! As for the new PC, we'll see how big a tax refund I get! Hoping for a core 2 duo E6700, 2GB DDR RAM, Radeon X1950 XTX 512MB in a month or so to replace this faithful 4-year-old warhorse. I doubt I'll write another AAR though, or at least not in this level of detail!Quote:

I might release this as a downloadable PDF at the end of the campaign if anyone wants it.Quote:
