-
Re: V&V OOC/Signup Thread I
Ya, I am going to have to fall back to Wien and make a stand there, hopefully reinforcement arrive in time. If any additional troops can be trained there it would greatly improve my chances of surviving an assault if you can't make it soon.
-
Re: V&V OOC/Signup Thread I
I can get back there this turn to relieve the siege, or potentially just send back some troops for you while I carry on to Innsbruck and hire more mercs.
We'll see when we get the next save.
Hopefully this is the last major Hungarian army for a little while, eh?
-
Re: V&V OOC/Signup Thread I
Yes please, I don't even understand where that army came from.

Re: V&V OOC/Signup Thread I
Pope Gregory has control of various pits of Hell scattered throughout Europe. He simply spawned the army from the most convenient one.

An impressive battle Tristan, I hope you post something about it in the Battle Reports thread. I take it most of your casualties were from the crossbows?

Re: V&V OOC/Signup Thread I
Who is going to take Harold Merode?
-
Re: V&V OOC/Signup Thread I
We had someone new post about getting an avatar a while back, didn't we? If he can't be found I think Ignoramus is next.
-
Re: V&V OOC/Signup Thread I
Ok I looked back over the thread and I think this is the list, in order, of people waiting for an avatar:
- mini
- Ignoramus
- Zim
Cecil is that right? Do you want to drop mini a pm?
-
Re: V&V OOC/Signup Thread I
Sorry about missing the French turn - I plead first week first year uni.
If mini doesn't show up then I'm happy to take Harold.

I'll be sure to post something in the Battle report thread though there'll be few screenshots, the battle was too tense for me to think about taking some...
The casualties were mostly from Xbows though not as much as one would think... I managed to keep them on the move, preventing them from reloading... I could perhaps have achieved better results if I had managed to kill the army general sooner...
I had my finger on the Withdraw button when the Victory screen appeared.
Cavalry truely rules !! :charge:

Not so much... After the first charge, most missile units were on the move and I had only to run after them until sufficient losses made them rout... Same goes for the peasants... A single well-timed charge made them rout as well. The first militia unit routed when charged from the rear by the mercs while trying to catch my general.
My biggest problem and fear was the last militia unit... I was down to less than 15 men overall against 100... And with men exhausted with meant that their charges were almost without effect...
Oh, and thanks for all the praise ... I had to make do with what I had or have Lothar sit on his butt doing nothing...

Re: V&V OOC/Signup Thread I
In terms of the "marching west from Magdeburg to get to Frankfurt" thing (see the Diet post), Theo can't reach the city with infantry this turn. However, if he marches west before this turn ends, he'll get pretty close to the city, and it would only take a couple more tiles of movement to get there on the next turn. Therefore, I'm thinking the movement order for TCV and myself in the next turn or two should go something like this:
- This turn, TCV moves west with his army.
- Turn ends
- Next turn, TCV moves a few more tiles west and is in position to reinforce the assault on Frankfurt
- I assault Frankfurt with TCV's army as reinforcement
- TCV takes the save and heads back east

Ha ha, no kidding. Actually I'm surprised, I always figured you were older than me Igno.
Incidentally, I've sent a PM to mini. He's not been on the .Org since January though, so if I don't get a response by the start of the next turn than I'll go and hand Harolde to Ignoramus.

Re: V&V OOC/Signup Thread I
We should be careful not to bite off more than we can chew in Poland. They are likely to have some large armies back there.
We do have a rule in place that the capture of a settlement should be authorised by Edict in the Diet - I don't think it's strict and we certainly haven't been enforcing it so far, but maybe the plan of attack on Poland (and of course Milan once Innsbruck is recaptured) should be discussed so we can work as a team? Might be easier to do this here OOC though...

As a general rule, it's best to discuss things IC rather than OOC whenever possible. It provides for a more immersive and enjoyable experience.

Quick update: phonics, I'm going to try to get to your PM, but I turn 21 (and am American) in the next hour and a half or so and fully plan to spend the next 48-ish hours drunk. Therefore, I may not be in a real position to answer you or anyone else for a bit. :medievalcheers:

Re: V&V OOC/Signup Thread I
I'm probably older than all of you. Is this the time to start posting our ages? I'm 33, celebrating my tenth wedding anniversary this year and I have a two year old son.
And yet I still spend all my spare time pretending to be medieval kings....hmmm

I'm 20, a college student majoring in history and psychology.

Re: V&V OOC/Signup Thread I
Well then, since we're all revealing our doomrings, since Thursday last week I am 22 years old. Or possibly 23. When you get as old as I am, it gets difficult to keep track of these things. ~;)
-
Re: V&V OOC/Signup Thread I
Well thanks for making me feel better about my age Tristan. On the other hand based on your evidence it now doesn't look likely I'm going to grow out of this!

I'm actually a few months older than you, still being 23 myself. I guess that puts me at around the median age. Nice to know I have at least twenty years before I outgrow these games.

Oh? I thought you said GH was older than you after he said he was turning 21? Still, I had a firm picture of you being 35 or something like that, so at least now I know I got you on the correct "side".

I'd like to be added behind Zim in the list of people waiting for a character.

FYI, I'm holding off with the Frankfurt assault until Theo moves into position.

Re: V&V OOC/Signup Thread I
If the mission to not attack Hungary has disappeared from the missions list, then it can safely be assumed that the time has expired and Hungary can once again be attacked.

Cecil, if I was running what you had to do every turn it'd take me a week minimum to sort everything out. You have nothing to apologize for.
-
Re: V&V OOC/Signup Thread I
Hear hear! don't even mention it Cecil you're doing a stand up job!
-
Re: V&V OOC/Signup Thread I
Yes, yes, but you don't have to tell him that! You'll make the guy relax and take more liberties with his time, making us all wait much longer.
Just kidding! It's fine. I know I've been absent the last few days as well, and it won't get better until about 7 days from now. I've got some 6 pages minimum to write about historical identity and then an exam to take as well on modern history in general. A slow process through this week would thus not hurt me at all.
-
Re: V&V OOC/Signup Thread I
What happened to that milanese army that was threatening nuremburg last turn?
-
Re: V&V OOC/Signup Thread I
It decided to deal with Lothar ???
(rather than face the mighty Prince...)
-
Re: V&V OOC/Signup Thread I
Just a rules check - is Lothar allowed to recruit mercs or should he have asked the Marshall first?
Also I assume his mercs are not to be paid for out of the Marshall's pocket (as I wouldn't have authorised them if so!)
-
Re: V&V OOC/Signup Thread I
I just thought that being rebel, Lothar had a free run of his money... I did it already two turns back so thought I could do it again...
Everything I bought has been paid out of Lothar's treasury... emptied to the last florin before the ransoms were paid.
-
Re: V&V OOC/Signup Thread I
I should have noticed myself. Anyway, Lothar's been paying for them so the financing isn't an issue. Let's leave things as they are so long as Lothar and Leopold can come to an IC arrangement, and all further recruitment must follow the rule.
-
Re: V&V OOC/Signup Thread I
Ugh, this mercenary rule is a bit annoying. I need to hire some mercs to prepare for the next Polish army, which would ordinarily be fine, except I have to move to the merc-rich province, have phonics take the save, have him hire them for me, and then take the save back and move back to Frankfurt. Seeing as Cecil in the very last post said the merc thing needed to follow the rules though, there's not really much we can do about it though.
Honestly, I think I might just call a quick Emergency Session to change the rule, and this can be justified IC as the Kaiser wanting to save his own skin. :laugh4: Thoughts?
-
Re: V&V OOC/Signup Thread I
Better to have the discussion IC but I'm afraid all I have time for is a quick post here..
I was planning to propose some legislation around the role and powers of the marshall at the next diet session so can we wait until then for this debate? In the meantime, given the state of emergency in the reich, the prinz as marshall authorises all electors to use their own means to recruit and pay such mercenary forces as are necessary for the defence of the reich.
Zirn is an outlaw anyway so probably we couldn't enforce the law against him anyway..
-
Re: V&V OOC/Signup Thread I
And that's all I need.

Speaking as a GM, I can say it would be quite encouraging if someone cared enough about the game to want to go to such an extent to change the rules. However, the rule is worded vaguely enough that as long as you have Prince Leopold's permission, you don't need to have phonicsmonkey take the save to actually press the merc recruitment button.
phonics, it sounds like you're going to make an IC post later and I encourage you to do so. That's not to say you were wrong to post what you did of course, as it was a response to GH's OOC issue. Although now that I think about it, with Heinrich's growing insanity he could start raising OOC issues in the Diet...
-
Re: V&V OOC/Signup Thread I
I was originally going to call an Emergency Session, but seeing as we're close to one anyway (I think?) and the most pressing issue was resolved, the Kaiser's... predicament will have to wait a bit to be publicly displayed. :laugh4:

Looking forward to it, especially with all the new developments. I gotta say, even with all the special events and such we cooked up in past game, I don't think we were actually in such a tough spot after the first ten turns of any game.
And we even have a bonafide rebel leaving heroic victory markers everywhere, while The Pizza Menace looms ever larger.
