Glad it's sorted.
Is it correct that you updated SSL so that the security problem due to the BUG in the older open SSL versions? According to https://lastpass.com/heartbleed/?h=forums.totalwar.org the .org might have been affected but should be safe now. Can you comment on it? I'd like to change my password but there's no point to it if you would still be affected by the BUG. Thank you!
The forums don't use ssl of any type, so we are unaffected by this bug. I should point out that though that while your passwords are encrypted on the server there is no hardcore security on either the forums or the server. I would strongly suggest you don't reuse any important password for your org account, particularly if that account is associated with your Org email address.
Thank you for your information. I was indeed somewhat confused that lastpass mentioned the .org as possibly affected while I didn#t remember any use of a https protocol. But of course I could've forgotten it or might have missed something. I also appreciate your advice but I'm not using any passphrase more than once anyway.
I like the new design !
It is actually an oldish one. Just that it was never set as the default even though it is the R2TW themed one.
But I am glad you like it.
If you want to change, at the bottom of the forum whilst viewing the forum-index you can explore the choices easily.
I'm browsing the forum on google/mozilla and I noticed that I can't watch YT videos on full-screen. That's an issue in the majority of the forums I visit, but not in all of them (e.g. not in twcenter).
Is it possible to improve it? It's a minor issue, of course, but in some cases, like watching TW trailers or historical videos, I'd think that it could be proven useful.
Try now.
Excellent. Thank you for the quick response.
I think therother is an artificial intelligence who resides here. No one knows who he is, but he is really good with the technical stuff.
Apologies for the recent downtime, it was caused by a domain issue that's now been resolved. For most people it should resolve itself almost immediately but for others it may take a day or two.
Both myself and another member have tried to change our avatar to a custom one, under 96 pixels and under 20kb, but when trying to save the change, it says the avatar is unable to be saved.
Sorry about that, permissions issue on the server. Try now.
Works now, thank you!
Hi, I'm having trouble with the timer usedhere.
I'm transcribing a copy of the code and how it's rendered:
[TIMER=9/29/15 1:00 PM EDT; Day 2 Concluded][/TIMER]
All I get is ’Day 2 Concluded’. Am I the only one getting that?
The date needs to be entered in YYYY format as although some browsers will process 15 as 2015 (eg chrome), some won't. Best to stick with the full format as in the bbcode description. Anyhow, I've edited the code in the Mafia thread.
Hmmm, I see. I tried changing the skins as was suggested in the thread but it didn't have any effect but to make the forum suddenly look horrible.
Many thanks!
Guys, did anyone optimise the forum? Because the pages load incredibly quick, especially after I post a reply or I log in.
Perhaps, I am imagining it, but in case I don't, congratulations on the person responsible for the optimisation, it's the fastest site I navigate through..
It started loading a lot faster after the server move a couple of months ago on my end.
I keep having a thread marked as with posts unread, both in my subscriptions page and the regular Gameroom forum page, even though no one's posted in several days. It's this one in particular. Can anyone help?
Oh! Then leave it like that for now, it'll remind me to send out PMs to people when I have some time, otherwise it'll slip my mind.
the forum timer that displays on posts seems to be a couple minutes behind (eg right now it says "The time now is 01:59." when it is actually 2:01)
though the [timer] function uses the correct time
Thanks, should be reset.
Hello!
I'm getting 2 different problems very similar lately. When I try to post something, I get one of these messages:
The submission can not proceed because the token has expired, try reloading the page usually but not always my post is gone, reloading the page usually do not solve the issue, sometimes it does. Reloading the entire thread the same.
The exact behavior with different message: The submission could not proceed because you were logged in since the previous page was loaded. Please reload the window.
How can I prevent this errors to happen?
Sounds like a cookie issue. It is possible you were logged out before you submitted the post. If so, to prevent this, make sure the "Remember Me?" checkbox is ticked when logging in otherwise the forum will log you out after 1000 seconds of inactivity.
I've just noticed that Frontpage and Morbid don't check that box by default. I've corrected that now.
Hi therother! But I do not think that is the case, I'm always logged in, more yet when playing mafia games :(
How often does this happen? Also, which style do you use? Does this happen more often when you've had the reply window open for a while?
Try logging out and closing all open forum tabs, and then clearing your browser's cache of files and deleting any cookies from forums.totalwar.org. Or you could use another browser or one that uses private/incognito mode. Then log back in and see if that resolves things.
Just happened again twice, this time around the token ones, I posted a couple minutes before normally, had a reply tried to answer with a single line, so less than a minute with the reply window open and dang! Refreshed the page, and again the same, went back to the subforum and reopened the thread and was solved.
Attachment 19152
Will try the suggestions and come back if solved!
Great, thanks for letting me know.
:(
It's back! Annoyingly enough...
Hmm. Clearing your cache/switching browsers didn't resolve the issue?
How about switching styles?
eg https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/showt...post2053725751
Apparently it solved the issue before, I hadn't an issue till yesterday, went back and did everything again and was fine till now, I have the message in the other tab... and now I'm wondering if this post is going to work
Edit... It worked.... :inquisitive:
I have a problem on Chrome - when I quote a post and go in the Quick Reply box, if I try to type after I press ENTER to go beneath the initial quote, it won't let me write.
If I continue after the QUOTE wrap tags, it lets me write normally.
Any thoughts?
Not important, just a weird glitch.
When I browse the forums, it says that the last post in the Backroom was made yesterday (5 March) at 23:28 by Beskar in the Iran thread. An information which seems accurate when I click every thread there.
However, when I browse the sub-forum (Backroom), it says that the last post in the Iran thread was made again by Beskar at 23:28, but in 4 March, not yesterday. In reality, no posts were made that day in the thread in question.
Not sure if that glitch has affected other threads or if it is related to the thread's closure.
edit:
Now that more recents posts have been added to the Backroom, the glitched moved elsewhere.
Namely, when I browse the Backroom, it shows that the last post made by Beskar in the Iran thread was created in 4 March, not the 5th. Previously, it displayed the correct date.
Still, when I browse the thread, the information shown is accurate.
@Beskar debumped the thread.
@Askthepizzaguy
When attempting to go into Advanced mode quoting a post, I received a browser error several times, saying that suspicious activity was blocked. I got around it by cutting in only what I needed in Quickpost; there were no errors with Advanced mode in that case.
The original post.
My post with the quoted element.
The browser error.
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
Latest browser version, Windows 7 SP1.
I see an announcement mentioning this thread, but I am unable to access that thread. Could it be I don't have enough posts to my name?
Just so everyone can see - I uploaded some new media, some good videos to check out, hopefully they will appear on the sidebar soon.
And adding to my previous post... everyone is encouraged to add new media and to create a library of sorts, including of your OWN YouTube videos on TotalWar! :knight:
Does VB support Instagram embedding?
No but I've added a mod to let you do so, eg [igm]p/f-gSfFyp7c[/igm]:
Fantastic, thank you therother!
Congratulations on the fast and effective response, but I predict that people might mistake the [img] and [igm] tags.
Good point. I think we are stuck with it though.
Earlier today I register here and the first thing I notice was. Where is the "Login" button?
I use the default forum theme and the "Login" button is almost invisible due for dark text color, I mean it's hard to spot it at the top to the right.
It would be awesome if that could be changed, let say change the text from dark text color to white text color for the "Login" button.
Beskar, the Instagram connector does not work for some reason - can you please check it out?
IGM tags in fact.
Seems to work ok:
Posts from Three Kingdoms section seem to not appear on the right panel "Threads With New Replies" list.
Should be fixed now.
In the download section in the description of the Gnome Editor
https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/local....php?catid=168
it mentions the needed vb6runtimes which are linked to
https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/local...hp?linkid=1016
but which are not available:
The requested URL /mizu/mizus/files/files/Windows/VBRun60sp4.exe was not found on this server.
Thanks for bring that to our attention. That's a really old bit of software and we don't have a link to it any more. I've edited the description to reflect this.
I also don't think it's needed for modern versions of Windows: the Gnome Editor works ok on three of my Windows 10 machines, although it possible that I've already installed the libraries that it needs.
The link to the files given in that post
https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/showt...=1#post1921448
is broken.
All 3 of the links to MTW patches result in errors:
https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/local....php?catid=164
"The requested URL /mizu/mizus/files/files/MTW/patches/MTW-Gold.zip was not found on this server."
Mizus is our old server, and unfortunately I don't think we still have those files.
What are you looking for Dragon? What file?
Most of the files on the Mizus server can be found here, they got migrated before that host got closed down:
https://forums.totalwar.org/mizu/mizus/files/files/
Unfortunately, we didn't get everything from the Atomic Gamer site, but if you ask around there may some packrats who have the files...
I was specifically looking for the patch for the Medieval: Total War Gold Edition version. But the other two versions of patches are missing too if you try to follow any of the download buttons on that page
https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/local....php?catid=164
I tried to download it from here
https://forums.totalwar.com/discussi...al-war-patches
but the link to the atomicgamersite was broken too and the other link got me only a passwordprotected zipfile
I'm thinking we should do a hosted space for our Org links - this can be very useful for the community. I'll look into that.
I found the 2.01 patch for the gold edition on ModDB
https://www.moddb.com/games/medieval...ion-v201-patch
Cheers Dragon, I'll draw up a list of things we should have on our server. Gnome Editor / MTW VI patch will be added.
Another broken link, this time in the TW: Medieval 2 patch section:
https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/local....php?catid=157
is a link to Atomic Gamer to "browse for patches"
In the M2TW FAQ thread under point 1.1
https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/showt...-Strategy-Tips
is a link to Ras´al´Ghuls unit stats list here
https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/showt...preadsheet-TW)
which seems empty to me.
The links to the mizus.com server seem all broken and the images in the thread are empty placeholders for me.
I've mass edited all download links from the mizu server to point to the (incomplete) mirror on our server. Hopefully that restores many of the legacy links.
As for the Ras's thread, the mizu server is offline, has been for some years. Perhaps Ras or someone else still has a local copy? Ras hasn't been active at the Org since 2011 though.
Was able to restore the content from the WayBack Machine. The Open links should now work.
Should we make a detailed list with everything available on our server?
@ConjurerDragon, would that be of interest to you?
Is not everything visible that is available when I click on "Downloads"?
https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/local_links.php
Just a heads up - for some reason, some threads load slowly. :book:
For example the thread on books about Medieval Europe - https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/showt...urope-and-Rome
Older threads are more likely to contain insecure or unavailable images. This is what causes them to load more slowly.
We are currently receiving a very high volume of internet traffic from a range of China-based IP addresses. This traffic does not seem to have well formed URLs and could well be some sort of DDoS. I've implement a few protections on the server that should help to alleviate the burden.
I'm hopeful that these measures will prove sufficient to return us to reasonable performance: since implementing it the number of concurrent users has since dropped from 4-5k to 300 or so. I'm loathe to implement IP-based address blocking as this is a very crude tool that would likely stop legitimate users viewing the site from China but such action may prove necessary at least in the short term.
For some mysterious reason, I have trouble accessing the official screens, videos and artworks and the historical sources threads for Troy. The webpage keeps loading and loading, but without any result, until more than one minute passes. The general discussion also loads slowly, but not as much as the other threads. For the rest of the .org forum, everything loads extremely quickly, almost less than a second.
It's due to images served over http rather than https. I've updated the links and performance seems to have improved.
