With Brennus involved I would think Belgae but 4-6 factions is too many in my opinion. I'm leaning towards Galatians being the culture but what would the new faction be? Tylis perhaps?

Moonburn, the problem with suggesting it may be the Arevaci is that I don't speak Spanish.... But I can read Italian.
Wolves makes think of the Uolkai or the Daoi, but frankly both factions would be redundant imo...
If the Belgae lived on "hills", then right now I'm sitting atop Mt. Everest XD
So I'd say somewhere near the Adriatic coast...
What about the Swiss? I mean Helveti etc.
Or Eluetoi as we are calling them in EBII.
Is that a "correct! but we call them differently" or a "well we also have those, but that's not it ^^"?
Oh no, I was just Celticising the spelling; like the Bellouakoi, Belloi, Boioi, Auernoi, Uolcae, Kantabroi, Kimbroi. Thankfully we don't need to change the spelling for the Teutones, Aedui or Atrebates or we would really have our work cut out!
Just writing information for the faction preview.... Getting sick of writing the word "Sicily".
The Sicels? Does that mean....Syracuse?
Hiero!!!
I really hope that's him ^^
sicels? hmm... mika waltari had them in the sicilian woods as some kind of barbarians in the book The eturuscan so on my opinion its either syracyse or something else.
But that books is in 520–450 bc so hmm.. but what else could be in sicily then... so i vote syracuse
The Sicels were key players in Pyrrhus' Sicilian Wars with Carthage. Their loyalties (along with some greek poleis) help determined whether he was eventually successful or not which of course he wasn't.
As mad as the EBII team has shown itself in the past do you really think they would stick a Celtic archaeologist onto the task of developing a Greek faction like Syracuse? (though just imagine the unit roster!). I have also been writing the words "Epona" "Lugus" "Pritanoi" "Elephants" "Phoenicians" and "Uenetoi" alot lately.
Crazy like a fox perhaps to stick you on Syracuse?:clown:
Well maybe you mean the Veneti though they aren't truly Celtic peoples either AFAIK (the ones in the Po basin at least). Perhaps the Insubres or the Italic Boii though two Boii factions would be confusing. And what would those Gallic factions have to do with Sicily? Ligurians perhaps? Gah this is frustrating.
I think he's speaking of those in Brittany...
Seems like a faction living near the Atlantic Coast, or having to do with the tin trade routes...
Kantabroi perhaps? I'd be kinda amazed, if they made it as a faction though :P
I hope it's something else XD
Yet he speaks of knowing Italian and not being familiar with Spanish might doom any research into the Cantabroi or other Northern Iberian peoples. He also spoke of the faction being a thorn in the side of two of the most popular EB factions, something which had made me think Syracuse along with his Sicily hint. The plot thickens.
You guys like Pontos and the Arche Seleukia don't you?
Just posted the text I was working on all day. Just a few more things to finalise and we shall have a faction preview. Time to hit my mate's flat with a bottle of vodka and the finest/worst collection of Hair Metal since MTV started airing Nirvana videos.
EDIT: Also, Sir Robin :balloon3: for the cray like a fox comment.
I'm still quite sure it has to do with the Galatians. We'll see.
The Volcae (Uolcae?) as the culture? As for the new faction...? Well if we can take Pontos and Seleucids as something other than a misdirection that would point toward Bithynia, but that seems..unlikely to me. Perhaps some Belgae faction? I don't know, but I'm looking forward to finding out soon
Well I'm genuinely confused lol
Reading about this mysterious faction and its connection to half of the ancient world, is going to be quite interesting :P
so many possibilities, so few faction slots *sigh*
now it sounds as if it would be galatia or those ancient georgians
aaaaah, it's the arevaci anyway - he's trying to misguide us!
If he were the spreader of Moros-style misinformation but without us having the knowledge that he is in fact a spreader of misinformation...now that would be devious.
P.S. Thank you Brennus for the balloon!
Faction symbol information written and posted... I really need to keep better records of the articles I use, would make things so much faster. Time to write unit descriptions.
Brennus, you teaser! XD
i would always pick the one in armorica and the bituriges before putting in the volcae even tough they could have a liason to syracuse by way or either massilya or emporion since they are "neighbhours" to those 2 greek city´s but ... well i´ve been proven wrong before and as for the arevaci most of the basic literature about them is translated into english
I should have mentioned, some of things I have been writing have nothing to do with the faction I am working on... I have also been helping Moros with his work. Now, as far as I can recall Moros specialises in other cultures......
:wall:
I see Moros has taught you a lot^^
Any updates on the progress of this faction preview Brennus? I'm sitting here twiddling my thumbs in anticipation.
Sorry, didn't get my work done this weekend. Was supposed to write the unit descriptions but couldn't find the unit concepts. Will get it done ASAP, family tree coming along nicely though.
No worries, take your time. We all appreciate the effort put into the EBII previews by the team. I was just wondering how progress was going since you so devilishly teased us earlier this week.:laugh4:
Good to know that the family tree has been concepted for this faction. I'm excited to see who it is.
Whoa that was one great weekend.... Although I got no work on EBII done. However, although its not faction related (and I am sure I am allowed to say this) our most recent modeller has been producing some incredible work at an almost industrious pace. Thus when the first release comes out you will actually have settlements with buildings from the EBII time frame, rather than Medieval structures. Keep your eyes on the EBII forum for some pictures of his incredible work in the future. It really is great!
That is awesome news! I wasn't thinking that buildings would be edited until one of the final releases, never mind first release! Kudos to the new team member, whoever he is!
Very good news indeed. Been playing eb recently again and am tottaly pumped to see eb2 released finally (patience is a virtue)
Ok, back to working on the faction preview.... Getting sick of quoting Diodorus of Sicily......
What tha......Syracuse????
I doubt it, since Diodorus of Sicily wrote a general history, not one specifically about Sicily. The team has stated that Syracuse is an unlikely candidate, in any case. Does anyone happen to know the era or nation in history for which Diodorus is the main or only contemporary source?
We can't assume, BTW, the faction preview is about one of the four unknown factions.
Has anyone ever considered the Mamertines as a faction? That being said, I doubt Brennus would be working on them. Diodorus did write about the Celtic invasion of Makedonia so perhaps we might consider a Celtic faction located near Greece? Tylis springs to mind.
Of Diodorus' history only the books 1-5 and 11-20 (out of 40) survive. The first few books are mostly geographical and tell about the culture and earliest (one might say mythical) history of Egypt, Mesopotamia, India, Scythia, Northern Africa and finally Greece and Europe. The other surviving books deal mostly with the history of Greece from the 5th century BCE on up until the early Hellenistic period. He was already heavily critizised in his own time for being very biased towards Greeks and copying mostly off of other, better sources. He is however one of the very few sources on the early Diadochi period wich makes him important for today's scholars.
My guess would be a Diadochi faction preview or one focusing on a geographical region or a combination of the two like Arche Seleukeia.
Also, just for a laugh, Diodorus is the only one who wrote about Arqamani, the king of Meroe in 272 BC :P
Anyway since Brennus is writing, it's going to be a keltic faction, most likely one that was already present in EB...
New unit descriptions written for our unreleased faction, just a couple more to do and we should be getting close to a faction preview!
Also, you fans of Mediterranean factions always liked how the "barbarian" towns of EB were quite easy conquests didn't you? Just gently roll your battering rams up the walls and gate, knock them over and then hold the breach with your more disciplined forces whilst Celts, Germans, Dacians and more hurled themselves in vain against you, before running them down. Then it was just a gentle stroll to the capture point..... In EBII you had better ensure your men have a bit more stamina.
Hill forts! Huzzah!
All the unit descriptions that were required have been written. Need to finalise the family tree, write a little extra for the origins of this faction and then we should have ourselves a faction preview....
Well, that sounds promising.
Yay! It's exciting to have a new preview coming up. This won't be a new faction, though, will it?
Either way it will certainly be a fun read.
Sounds very interesting. Can't wait for it :)
Family tree finalised, just need to make it look a bit more professional. If you guys don't mind waiting just a little longer we may be able to showcase something very pretty as well...
Also, I would advise playing EB and besieging Celtic oppida with their easy to scale walls and quick to open gates... Fond memories.
oh man I'm excited and i definitely don't mind waiting. Make it perfect. Thats what EB is all about.
Compiling images and data....
images? you're getting ahead of yourself brennus ;)
LoveEB is all around us! yay! :iloveyou:
haha, yes i know and there's much to see. I was talking about the technical aspect of adding those images in the preview... ;)
Looks like we may have an additional surprise ready to go with the preview if all goes to plan... Not long now.
Brennus you tease.
Gosh, I can't wait for this preview xD
I'm calling you on your marketing and hype building procedures, Brennus lol
The countdown has begun....
Technically the countdown had begun at the start of time (Assuming that time is linear. If time is cyclical there is neither a beginning nor an end to said countdown).
That silliness aside, I eagerly await.
I think Brennus is not referring to countdown as in time, but as in faction slots. ~;)
EDIT: or would that just be wishful thinking?
Am I the only one drooling all over his keyboard reading this thread?
i think the countdown is in days, not faction slots.
And as far as I know, I can easily count those days on my two hands... ;)
Whaaaaaat? An actual date? Is it from today or your original post? The latter would thursday in two weeks, if my terrible mathskills didn´t trick me.
Oh c,mon, your killing people here. We NEED SAUCE!
since the "countdown" has begun... ^^

Man, this was lined up fully for a youtube link to Europe - the Final Countdown. but everything these days is the starks instead. Sigh, I must be showing my age.
Thats' great news :).
This is amazing news! I'm counting the minutes (Which will take forever and I'll probably sleep) till the preview. :2thumbsup:

Historical information all prepared, inserting images and descriptions. It's bigger than we expected it to be. Only a few remaining unit descriptions need to be written, prepare a few renders and arrange the screenshots in order. If all goes according to plan it's now only a matter of days until we are ready:

I too am doing some counting down (modded, you see ) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4jr9mYY_kkU
Cannot wait!:2thumbsup:
This will be epic, believe me I've seen It!
Maestro, Please!...
