Either way, congratulations to him and apologies that I could not put up a better fight and in person (though on second thought, those two may have been mutually exclusive). I'll let you guys know when I'm back from Germany if there's still a need for another player.
Sure-fire domination? Doubtful. Mainland Norway would had fallen within 2 turns even when you had moved two stacks into defence or attacked Oslo. Don't know about plans you made with your army on Britannia. You would had no other choice but to land on mainland Europe and re-take either Groningen or Antwerp, otherwise your last army of Britannia would had sunk with pesky fleet of yours. Even if you would had tried to move army across shores of Britannia or Europe by moving it with ship(s), problems would occur with transportation via sea afterwards. (I think i've been playing too much strategy games like Vic2 and EU3)
After all, it was you who wanted challenge in beginning of game by choosing Norway. I just took my chance :P

Re: The March of Time - A Stainless Steel 6.4 hotseat
Norway had pretty sizable forces on England AFAIK.

Hope I didn't make the wrong decision - it's not too late to switch it back and sub the faction properly if we think it has legs.
-
Re: The March of Time - A Stainless Steel 6.4 hotseat
Yes, Norway HAD 4 quite sizeable stacks on Britannia at very beginning. 3 were departed to Antwerp/Eikundarsund AFAIK (I failed to sink carrying fleets, thats how I know), one stack is confirmed to have been remained on Britain. Or was it 5?

it's not so much about how many there are as what they are made of, how well they are supported by essential units like catapults and spies, and whether there is money for forts
-
Re: The March of Time - A Stainless Steel 6.4 hotseat
At the start of the game they seemed formidable but not enough to take on England's massive hordes of quality troops. Spies, siege units and forts I don't know. Though catapults can't open stone walls so unless he had trebs the point is moot.
-
Re: The March of Time - A Stainless Steel 6.4 hotseat
I completed my turn, but Mithridate (Kiev) has asked me to sub him.
As his turn is right after mine, I will carry on but will probably need "his time", i.e. another 48 hours to do so.
Hopefully by Thursday evening I should be able to upload the savegame for the Khwarezm (unless we want to get Norway back in).

Re: The March of Time - A Stainless Steel 6.4 hotseat
I'll find out if he's joining the game - some comments in the recruitment thread suggested otherwise. If not I'll skip this time and we'll try for one more turn to find another player before declaring them sacrosanct as per my previous posts on the subject.
-
Re: The March of Time - A Stainless Steel 6.4 hotseat
Well it looked for me that aazard is not joining because he(she?) wants horrible vanilla hotseat.
One does not simply walk into magnificent Stainless Steel. :tongue2:

Please do not disparage other people's preferences. I know you're joking but we try very hard to be welcoming here, not critical of new members.

Wait why is Teutonic Order still present?? "surrender_regions" console command didn't work? :(
-
Re: The March of Time - A Stainless Steel 6.4 hotseat
Well, all I can say is that I just skipped them, when their turn came up after Kiev.
They do not have any regions at all, nor do they have any armies. Two bishops is all they have left if I recall correctly.

I could of course sub Genoa :)
It looks like nobody left a message for iggy that it is his turn though (I just did so). Maybe they sent a pm, but his inbox is pretty much always full so he might not have gotten it.
-
Re: The March of Time - A Stainless Steel 6.4 hotseat
I sent a PM and it did not bounce back. Genoa didn't have any fronts really, apart from AI France. I warned Ignoramus to hold off on attacking Venice but he insisted. I did what I can to stop him from doing this, but allies are allies and I don't go back on my word.
-
Re: The March of Time - A Stainless Steel 6.4 hotseat
Myth, I'm sorry, but you never warned me from attacking Venice - you told me yourself you deliberately didn't tell me so you could then attack me unprepared.
-
Re: The March of Time - A Stainless Steel 6.4 hotseat
Ah, such diplomatic intrigue...
I LOVE it!
-
Re: The March of Time - A Stainless Steel 6.4 hotseat
BTW: Don't worry, Myth, I'm not annoyed at you all personally - in fact, I prefer it if IC dealings stay IC and are handled in the Diplomacy thread - it stops acrimony.

Re: The March of Time - A Stainless Steel 6.4 hotseat
Denmark:
https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/local...id=205&id=9920
The Republic of Genoa wishes that the Sicilians stop their greedy land grabbing and bare-faced lies and negotiate a peace treaty with us. We are prepared to offer concessions, as our latest offer suggests. Otherwise, we call upon upon our friends the Moors to come to our aid!
The Sicilian fleet off the coast of Tuscany has been defeated and can't move next turn. Milan taken and that settlement in Nth Africa next to Tunis.
Also, I had a strange thing occur when I assaulted one of the Sicilian forts: I had a single trebuchet which breached one of the walls, but when it got destroyed the battle ended saying I lost, despite the fact that the fort only had a single circuit of walls and I could access everywhere. Anyone had this happen, or know why?
-
Re: The March of Time - A Stainless Steel 6.4 hotseat
Igno I told you IC that Venice is much stronger and that attacking them would prove disastrous for you. Anyway how did you take that African settlement, do you have siege weapons? The Trebuchet probably did not destroy the wall fully. If even a tiny bit of rubble remains, it still counts as a wall. You have to hear the announcer say that you've breach the enemy's walls for the siege weapon to become irrelevant.
That fort is full of quality troops though, you'd have to have unparalleled skill in leading spear militia to victory over them. The GB unit and the Sicillo-Norman knights alone can probably kill 2000 spear militia.. Such is the way of SS.
-
Re: The March of Time - A Stainless Steel 6.4 hotseat
Fatimid's Turn
Took two cities of Norway, which means Norway is no more. Attacked rebels outside of Turku and took control over Finland. Also declared war on France and took Metz. Another wave of landgrabbin'! :)

If led by a player yes, but with the ai leading them spear militia can deal with anything except GB fairly well. And european GB are no where near the monsters that the eastern ones are.
-
Re: The March of Time - A Stainless Steel 6.4 hotseat
Not when he's assaulting a stone fort though. And the GBs/SNKs are tough cookies even if they are not Scholarii and Roman BGs.

Re: The March of Time - A Stainless Steel 6.4 hotseat
Myth: (No hard feelings but for record here is the PM)
"Respected Chancellor of Genoa,
we are surprised by your decision to wage war on Venecia. Truly, their armies are formidable and their republic stretches from Hamburg to Durazzo. Genoa is small, and you would be hard pressed to win against them. We also knew of the Mooris-Egyptian alliance, and yet the Moors went to war with France on your grace's behalf. The Egyptians are preoccupied with conquering Roman territories, as are we to be honest, as the more territories we take, that much less will be left for the Muslims.
Sicilly will need some time to think, as undoubtedly blood will need to be spilled. Let us know of your plan so that we may judge correctly."
No, it did destroy the wall, as the breech was promptly occupied by enemy spearmen and I did hear the voiceover. I probably wouldn't have won, but I didn't realise until I started fighting the battle that in SS fort are stone. Otherwise, I might have done otherwise.
That stack in Africa had a catapult in it. That's why I left it there - in case this happened.
-
Re: The March of Time - A Stainless Steel 6.4 hotseat
You know, you can share that IC if you want. I figure that diplomatic pms should be fair game in the diplomacy rome. Although others may become hesitant to inform you of their plans in secret.
-
Re: The March of Time - A Stainless Steel 6.4 hotseat
I think it fairly obvious I meant to deter you from attacking. BTW when siege assaulting, target the gate, as it's 2 times weaker than the walls at lest. I don't remember seeing a catapult in the African stack but I probably missed it.
-
Re: The March of Time - A Stainless Steel 6.4 hotseat
I tried that with my first assault on Milan - and I ran out of ammunition. Getting the trebuchet rocks to actually hit the gates and not the gatehouse is quite a challenge.
-
Re: The March of Time - A Stainless Steel 6.4 hotseat
Yeah, when you only have the one treb you need a bit of luck to knock out two gatehouses. One will go down 90% of the time though. When I have one treb I usually autocalc.

Re: The March of Time - A Stainless Steel 6.4 hotseat
Since I couldn't wait on the Dodge's decision I took Piza and Genoa this turn. One of the two Genoese fleets has been sunk, the one with the army barely survived but can't move next turn. A Roman halfstack destroyed in the East.
Genoa up, though they are living on fumes.

It is forbidden to interact with the Kwaz in any way - they should be considered to be not a part of the game at all and their territories are not part of the map.
So, no-one can take any of their lands or attack any of their armies or agents. No diplomatic deals are allowed with the Kwaz including trade rights and map swaps.
Exceptions:
- if their armies and agents are in your lands you may attack and destroy them.
- if your victory conditions include territories currently held by the Kwaz you may take them and any territories along the way, but only if your other victory conditions have already been satisfied.
