@Muffinman14: I read somewhere (in this thread maybe? http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cg...s/confused.gif ) about it being released 2004, not 2003... So far there's no confirmed release date, so hold your horses.. Anyway, my point was that when it is released, it won't require a super-machine, for the exact reasons that SeljukSinan stated..
Man,this page downloads somethin 2 my comp,what is the rometotalwar.mpg file,coz I haven't downloaded it yet,tell me plzzQuote:

Once you click the link it should automatically start a download of that file to your PC. Once the file has downloaded you can watch the movie using Windows Media Player (or any other media player supporting mpg).
Hope this helps. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cg...cons/smile.gif
Yup,it worked thx http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cg...cons/smile.gif
Hey check this out... I found some CA concept design http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cg...ns/biggrin.gif
uuuhh... I've got to little to do
http://www.lametech.net/~nord/roman.jpg
Wow, that looks so lifelike You should become a professional artist man http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cg...icons/wink.gif
Eugh, can't wait for this game to come out...No more bitmapped units....more realistic sieges...only thing i'm afraid of is the 32x32 km maps. It'd take like an hour and a half just to REACH the defending army, it'd be insane

Agreed. The armies of Greece and Rome were well trained and disciplined and against such troops a charge of unwieldy chariots could be 'disarmed' without much fanfare or bloodshed. I'm not sure about this but I believe Alexander's phalanx troops simply sidestepped into adjacent ranks, thus swallowing Darius' chariots up and letting them pass to the rear where light troops would make quick work of them, especially when they slowed down to turn around for another charge. This wouldn't make much sense as the phalanx spears alone would have discouraged such a charge, someone correct me on this.Quote:

Right on spot. Skythed chariots worked very effectively against eastern type of foot soldiers, but against a well-formatted, disciplined army (like Greek or Roman) they didn't stood a chance.Quote:

Then the phalanx would open to let them pass through their ranks, and another line of skirmishers (positioned in the back of the phalanx) would take care of the survivals, either when they got out of the phalanx, or when they tried to turn around.
In Issos the many Skyth Chariots of the Great King did only a few dozens of casualties to the Greek army, and no harm to the tight battle formation.
Agreed.Quote:

Its looking pretty good.
I don't see how you guys can think that movie is prerendered.
At least the shots I have seen have clearly visible polygons.
Nobody makes prerendered movies with visible polygons unless they have a crap renderer.
CA does not have a crap renderer.
That stuff must be ingame.
HOLY X$%* that game will give my PC a aneurysum.
AS i said I hav more than twice the procesor and the best of the GEF4 cards and my game lageed incredibly untill I did i disk-defrag and even now its sometimes slow in the highest resoution whem massive armies face off. I can imaginte that RTW will demand more.Quote:

I have a P3 500, 256MB RAM, 32MB ATI Rage FURY, and MTW runs great on minimum - normal settings, although it does get laggy at times.
If with your specs the game is running poorly, I would recommend looking up some topics in:
The Apothecary
Also have you tried stuff like Sandra2000 or Norton Utilities to tweak system ?.

Indeed RTW will demand more than MTW.
Any CA guys willing to give us another idea. I know you guys have already stated that it will not require as much as people are expecting it too. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cg...ns/biggrin.gif http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cg...cons/smile.gif
i cant see the roman intro cause my computer sucks. But thats ok cause it may be the one that will be in the game. i think it would be weird if the spartans are in the game cause i believe they were no longer powerful at this time or the egyptians. Are the huns in the game?
FORZA ROMA
Anyone who has any doubts about the validity of IN GAME screenshots, please read the following in detail:
PC Gamer Uk Article on Rome: TW
Many thx to ShadesWolf for posting this. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cg...cons/smile.gif http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cg...ns/biggrin.gif http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cg...cons/smile.gif http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cg...ns/biggrin.gif
EDIT: Due to copyright http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cg...cons/angry.gif issues, the PC Gamer article has been removed by forum admin. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cg...ons/pissed.gif
Was thinking that Rome would be pretty much the only place left to go...Napoleonic period wouldn't work so well, as the strategy of the day was mostly walk to within a few metres of each other and blow the crap out of the man opposite...simplified of course, but not particularly TW. LOTR would be fantastic, but I'm guessing there would be rights issues now that it has become such a marketing behemoth due to the films.
Here's an idea - since so many people clearly want a LOTR TW, why don't all the mod people in the site team up and make a giant game quality LOTR mod. Not much good at anything but maps myself, but would love to chip in.
What do u think any chance of this coming out in Q3 2003??
In fact, there WILL BE a campaign map,but u will be able 2 zoom anywhere on it,and plan ur ambushes, routes etc.
It seem that u will be able to march an army in real time all over the campaign map,so that in fact means that there are no more limited battle maps, just 1 GIANT one.
Typing www.rometotalwar.com is just as www.totalwar.com...
I thoght by this time there would be a R:TW dedicated site....
I'd have posted this over there, but can't due to the board-membership system (Which is a good clever and mature system. I applaud).Quote:

I'd imagine Shades will be getting a cease and desist from someone at Future come Monday morning. I'd suggest he takes them down before then just to avoid the nastiness.
Sorry about the typo in the article Re: Release Date, btw. I'd imagine Ludicrously tight deadline and the Editor being distracted by the ludicrously good-looking screenshots.
Er... Hurrah for Rome Total War? That'll do.

Hi Kieron Gillen. I'll make sure Wolf is aware of your message. I'll also copy and post it in that thread in the Main Hall. I had read a note from the admins earlier that we will be cutting the links to the scans with the suggestion to Wolf he contact PC Gamer (UK).
BTW, if you plan on hanging around, I can think of a few hundred people here who have a million questions to ask you, most of which you probably can't or aren't allowed to answer. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cg...cons/smile.gif
thanks for the warning Kieron Gillen
I have removed the scanned images, it was never my intention to cause any problems.
Well thanks for not just coming here and sue the pants of Wolfy and the Totalwar.org itself.Quote:

BTW I have deleted them, so its a waste of time asking me to email them
I read in another topic that in RTW you can only use the Romans in SP can anyone confirm this?
Yawn ill buy it and type it out for anyone who wants a copy, Ill type it in my own words of course Is pcgamer out yet? i thought it was 16th.
Its in the UK stands now, only not in Luxembourg. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cg...cons/frown.gif GAH http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cg...cons/frown.gif
dam never say this ...oh well never mind theres 2 topics now...sorry guys http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cg...cons/smile.gif
Please note that while PC Games has sent out cease and dessist mails many times they have not ( to my knowledge ) ever actually sued anyone. And not everybody complies with threats so it's not because everybody obeys http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cg...cons/smile.gif. I do not hereby mean that it was wrong to take down the pictures. Just pointing out some things i have heard.Quote:

wow this looks really awesome now i have to games to wait for MoO3 and R:TW. i have only one question: will the campaign be playable in MP mode??
The new update (announcement) on the totalwar website indicates that tech specs for this game are somewhat equal to MTW>>> what do you guys think?
I mean // I was worried about a huge upgrade.
The perfect future project for Total War is Tekumel, the Empire of the Petal Throne. This world has been around as long or longer than Middle Earth, and its nations are far more ancient and interesting than those in Tolkien. They are an amazing synthesis of everything non-Western. Imagine people who appear to be the ethnic equivalent Egyptians, Mayans, Mughal Indians, etc... (i.e., black haired, coppery complected) organized into legions of Heavy Infantry, Medium Infantry, Archers, Crossbowmen, Artillerymen, etc... and supplimented by intelligent non-humans and also by battlefield magic. Military tradition stretches back tens of thousands of years. Battles are intricate dances of formations and counterformations. The Total War engine could have a real heydey http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cg...cons/smile.gif
Edit: I deleted the second of your double post - Gregoshi
I don't think Tekumel would work well at all.
I'm no fantasy buff, but I do know that when I haven't heard of something then it's pretty niche.
At least with Tolkien everyone and their grandmother has seen the movies.
Hi dalemire. Welcome to Entrance Hall: Total Org.
Petal Throne might be too much of a niche product to get the attention of CA. However, should they ever license the engine, perhaps a small company would take the chance to cater to such a niche.
True, but I doubt they'd ever license out the engine. Perhaps I'm simply short-sighted, but I can't see how another company could use it without becoming a direct competitor to the established franchise.
I'm pretty sure that if a game is to be made using this universe, it'll have to be a fan production.
*looks, mouth wide open in awe* http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/eek.gif
Just to reiterate what I've said elsewhere: the in-development version of Rome: Total War runs on my 18-month-old laptop perfectly happily, just as Medieval: Total War and Viking Invasion do. The framerate is more than acceptable on a PIII/900 with a GeForce 2 Go video card.Quote:

Captain FP, my P2 350 refuses to believe you. If you are wrong, it will have a heart attack trying to play RTW. If you are right, I'll probably have the heart attack. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/eek.gif
