How are the Armenians to play? I'm playing as the Croats right now. It is kinda slow, too weak to attack anyone, and too strong to get attacked. i'm sure things will liven up once the Mongols arrive though.
This error message appears when i press end year.
No portrait found for this overriden type.

Hi guys. I downloaded the mod and installed it. The super beta and them the newer one on top of that.
But I rant into a problem or two.
I tried Egypt in Super Early. I tried to build those nice looking Nubian javelins (good defense and attack and javs Sweet). The game crashed at End Turn. It gave me an error message about having no portraits.
I thought I may have missed something, so I reinstalled everything. Tried Egypt again, and crashed again, after the warning about the portraits. Am I doing something wrong? Has anyone else had this problem??
BTW, the units look great. I wish I could play.
OK, scrap that. I solved the problem. By following your directions, no less.
But now those tasty looking eggy javelinmen are gone from super early. Is that right??

A_B, the Armenians are fun to play. Usually the Byzantines make an alliance and your free to do battle with the Turks. The Armenians have also been strenghted and gave a little more cash for them to survive.
M brasher1, i'll get back to you a little later about the Nubian Jav, it sounds weird, maybe i left something out. I sort it out though.

VERY IMPORTANT: Make a copy of the 'Vikings' portraits folder and put it into the actual 'Vikings' portraits folder.

ok a suggestion and a bug I found so far with the super early.
Bug: Sicilian Norman Knights dont carry there swords properly when running in on attack mode.
Suggestions:
1> Cumins desperately need a decent infantry unit.
2> Cumins need a pagan altar. Its too slow going to raise religeon without it. Also a pagan emmisary would be nice.
3> My 2 suggestions for the new faction you asked about would be to add another frankish faction, maybe Anjous. Or perhaps make an african pagan faction that starts in Sahara? Would be interesting though not very realistic.
They are some good units availiable to them. Balkan warband being one. They were more cavalry based people but if people want a infantry unit for them in high, i'll oblige. They do get Moldavian warriors in super high i know that much.
Didn't i add the Pagan religious buildings for 0.5?
I'm thinking of adding Brittany in high instaed of the Croatians. Anyone think thats a good move?

There isn't much you can do with the Cuman really. They were an extremely nomadic people living in tents made of animal skins and followed big game for survival much lik ethe American indians. They were also raiders and never settled into the territories they raided, it was always for food and goods and then they left. Many of the Nations/People around them considered them uncivilized barbarians. I'll have to find some info online and put a link up. Personally I think BK did a great job with the Cuman. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cg...ons/cheers.gif The only real problem I see is that in the 3 campaigns I've done recently the Cumans get steamrolled by the Byz, Novgos, Poles & Hungarians. Also I took them out fairly quickly in a Kievan campaign I have going. Still I like their addition to the game and they do present an interesting challenge.

BKB, have you ever considered making cavalry with lances that use bows? I know this was used by Byzantines and Steppe horsmen in particular. In Wes's latest mod, he uses this for some of the cavalry. Just wondering if you had ever thought of this.

BKB, another possible faction for SuperHigh is the Abbassid Califate, and maybe you could put them in Arabia.
That could be an option because the Crusader states do have it tough with the Egyptians and they could divert some of the aggression away.
NEGATIVE: There are no pagan shrines in .5 BKB Super early. You forgot to add them. Yes Balkan warband are decent infantry for the cumins, but I would like to see a dedicated infantry unit for them. Perhaps Dismounted Royal Cumin Cavalry? Or something of that like.
Don't think this question has been asked before, so I'll ask it. The new units in Super High, can they be used if we start in Super Early? Or will you add all the units together for the final release?

I'm fixing up a possible V0.6 release - very small, mostly made up of text files. Any requests? The Pagan Shrines have been fixed now (Very sorry) and WILL be in the release. Does anyone feel that any factions need strengthening, or anything along those lines?
I would like if the Byzantines had the correct Early starting position (Anatolia and Nicea to Turk, Georgia to Rebels, not sure about Lesser Armenia, and Naples to Sicily). However, I already chagned that, so no big deal.
And it's a shame that I can't use the new, evantual high units if I start in early, and get to high, but I could just mod them in I guess.
One last thing. I still sometimes get no portraits for the Kievian princesses, and the flags are wrong in the pre battle screen. And peasants are still built with forts.
I probably missed something, along the lines though.
Even with those few minor nit-picks, I looove the mod. Can't wait until Super High comes out
I'll give anatolia to the turks and Georgia to the rebels, which could allow the armenians to expand without getting into a war with Byzantium.
But i might leave them with Nicaea because it would make the game bearable for them. They have enemies on all sides, not to mention the Venetians often invaded from the sea. So i might leave them that provence.
England needs strengthening. I would vote for changing the state Armenia to Lesser Armenia. Give the whole of the Anatolian Byz possessions to the Turks (except for Lesser Armenia and Georgia). Please, severe the link between Constantinople and Nicaea/Trebizond. Give Naples to Sicily. Severe the silly land route between Flanders and Wessex.
Well that'll be all I can think off, mostly built in historical mistakes. Emperor Alexius could only dream of having such an empire Making Constantinople more difficult to reach sure changes the game; the Byzantines are quite save now behind the sea, but in my modded game they actively attacked Anatolia. Constantinople is then finally not far too easily taken by her enemies
I think that the Armenian state in proper Armenia ceased to exist already a few centuries before, but the Cicilian Armenia was actually a real power in the medieval until the Ottomans trampled it in the 15th century. (not really sure on that, at least it was still around in 1320)
I will give england more money which should help. Armenia being put between Egypt, Turks and Byzantium will soon be destroyed, but where they are situated at the moment keeps them a little safer so they get build up a power base.

Hi BKB. A few more comments after playing until 4AM (your mod has given a new lease on my MTW life).
Trade's usefulness has been diminished. Fewer ports seem to exist all around (France, Italians seem esp weak on the ports), except in the Baltic where the Novgorods are powerful in early. I do not think this is a problem, as the SP usually gets 99% of the beenfit from trade. Just a comment.
I married a pricess without a portrait from the Nov, French or Polish faction (IIRC) and I got the no portrait bug that earlier led to the crash (when I had not installed the portraits properly).
Also, as others have noted, there is a disconnect between the names when you attack and make peace.

This is more of a comment than suggestion. I love the Armenians, quite fun to try and survive when squished between Byzantines and Turks. Also, did you do something to make Civil wars happen more often? I suffered a massive Civil war, wich, while annyoing keeps you on your toes. Unfortanatly, $'s hard, because trade's difficult, with having to knock off the Turks to get to the rich Egyptian's land, and the Byzantines could squish you in one turn if you attack them. Mabye a boost, or something? At least they get deacent generals for princes (4 and 5 almost always), except no good generals from the normally trained troops. Not sure if you could change this or anything, but just thought I'd comment.
Edit: Also, mabye build up Normandy. Despite what they had in the orginal game, Normandy was quite important to the early English, since William the Conqerour was only a few years before.
Mbrasher, have you installed 0.5 yet? Because 0.5 fixes the bugs with portraits and the texts.
I'll think i neglected a few of the maritime factions. The small patch i'm working on will fix this.
I'll look at the major provences in the game and strenghted them accordingly.
Yeah england can use just a tad more strength. Im tired of seeing the fucking weak ass welsh (no offense welsh people) crush the english. Also when I attacked the polish with the cumins yesterday they had a venetian flag on the setup screen.

Yes exactly. prebattle screen. Most of the time it worked right, but against the polish it was wrong when I invaded there provence they had hungary.

I am enjoying the game. It's nice to see fewer peasants. And even the small factions have decent generals at first.
I am also glad to see that you have implemented buildable Almughuvars. They are rare and exotic in normal games. It is like they were a concept that went unimplemented by the devs.
Another popular merc are Alan Mercenary Cav. Why not build them too in Georgia and Khazar??
Again, I really like what you've done. You have created a wealth of new choices in army composition, as well as reminding players to be careful before invading a neighbor. I lost more than my fair share of battles playing as the Spanish against the Valencians, Navarrese, Aragonese and Almoravids. Cid is a hard nut to crack. I killed 193 of his army of 194 (he survived to retreat to the castle) in a battle where I lost 500. He repulsed my assault the next turn, killing 165 of my guys.
I can see though, that some units are rendered useless by the new choices. Order crossbowmen that can fight?? They make xbox and arbs a questionable choice. And the build requirements for the order knights are pretty low -- they are available SO much faster than FKs or CKs. Likewise, CMAA are nothing next to Order Fot Knghts.
I don't know how to solve that, except to require some higher level buildings for these great troops (like a swordswith for FFK -- you did do this for Moorish inf, which makes obsolete my beloved AUM).
Anyways, just a few ideas for newxt iterations. Really nice
Any units that are mercenaries like Alan cav i'll throw in for the patch on tuesday. I'll make the building requirements for some of the better units a little harder also.

I've tested your mod a bit and I've found few bugs. There is list of them.
Wrong names.
Ottocar rename to Otakar and Wenceslas to Vaclav.
Konrad is german name. And he was king which was enthroned by German for short time. This can offend someone (like me) So I just ask you to be so kind and remove this name from the list of bohemian names or at least to disable this for name of bohemian king.
Another bugs are amnong bohemian names which belong among surnames, like:

This is visible when one of names listed above meets with some surname. It would be like Smith Hastings. I understand that you couldn't know what is name and what is surname and I wonder how did you manage to collect so many names and surnames for so many nations.

Name Premsyl should be corrected to Premysl. But I'm uncertain if it should be used because first bohemian ruling lineage was Premyslid and some kings from this lineage used this name
like Premysl II Otakar. Who was also known as Iron and Golden King. It was because of his might (he was great warrior and he has founded Kralovec, also known as Konigsburg, now Kaliningrad during his crusade against pagan prussian tribes) and wealth.

I've spotted, that english in your mod in Normal difficulty are much harder to play than Bohemian in Hard. They are often conquered by Welsh and Scottish

I've tried to add some new units, but it didn't work. I'm surpised, because adding this to original game (by the same way) worked. I haven't used Gnome, only NotePad.

May I suggest to cooperate with Wes, creator o Medmod? He adds plenty of new units, modifies those original, and it's perfect. I can't say which mod is better, but I can say, that you and he would make absolutely best mod for MTW.
I still don't uderstand why Medieval campaign ends in 1453. Middle Ages ended in 1492 by discovery of America and Constantinople is usually captured by Egyptians at latest at the end of 11th century so historical date of fall of Constantinople is unimportant. Could you set end date to 1492?

The Blind King of Bohemia was probably pierced with an arrow but he was unhorsed along with his son(was it charles?) and butchered along with so many lords, dukes and a few kings at crecy (i think the final tally was 1,452 nobility died at the battle). Very brave man.
I will increase the time length from 1453 to something like 1492 if people prefer.
The unit problem you are having could be a number of things which is the real bitch about adding units at times.
Have you put in 0.5? because it corrects some of mistales. A patch will be released on Tuesday to add more corrections

I thing that he wasn´t so brave like men, who led his horse, because It was certain suicide (french knights, as brave as ever, were already fleeing from battlefield) and he had nothing to loose, while his men had many.
May I ask you to rename unit names relating to names of places. It doesn´t look good when you train Prague Bowmen or Trebizond Archers in Russia, Spain....

I would suggest to change their name because Prague is only one (ok, there are other Pragues but those are almost uknown and for now, unimportant), so training men from Prague in Poland also doesn´t sound good. Btw, bohemian weren´t good bowmen (at least as I know). But I would suggest to cooperate with Wes (if there is no rivality or smethig this way between you and him) and use his idea, that army´s main power doesn´t lie in men from conquered provinces.

This mod really is great I am having the craziest game of Total war I ever played. I am in the year 1393 and I am the Sicilians. I have Southern Italy, Northern France and Germany,Eastern Europe and I conquered the entire mongol empire. My rival the Valencians has the rest besides for small amounts of land owned by the Irish,English and Genoese who are the only factions left.
A war just broke out between me and the Valencians and we just had our first battle of about 15,000 men
When I've played Medmod as Polish I've prepeared (or I've tried to prepare) myself for Mongols an gathered my whole army in Khazar. Unfortunately, my army had only 13000 men, while mongolian 17000. I often have to let game auto resolve it (K-6/333MHz, no more comment needed) and I've lost http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cg...ns/gc-wall.gif . My looses 10 000 men, mongolian 11 000. My idea is, to rename units and reduce number of provinces where you can train them.
I hate names of units like Byzantine Infantry, Byzantine Cavalry, Byzantine Lancers...... because their commanders (or owners) certainly didn't use these names.
I would rename Byzantine Infantry to Scutatoi (please, give them pike or spear and bonus against cavalry, Byzantines surely need such unit because Spearmen are pretty useless) and Byzantine Lancers to Stratiotai. I have no idea what to do with Byzantine Cavalry.
Prague Bowmen are not bad idea. Archers are mostly welcomed in my army, but historically, bohemians were poor archers, so I would suggest to keep for them those ordinary ones and those Prague Bowmen replace with some cavalry or infantry. I've seen pictures of Hussite soldiers on your web page. Are they implemented in your mod? I also must disagree with Silesia in Polish hands in early and (especially) late era. I'm uncertain about early, but in late era Silesia was held by Jan Lucembursky (BKB) and his son Karel (Charles).
About BKB, I've heard (from two independent sources), that he went to battle mounted on horse led by his mostly loyal men.
I've found this text and I'll try to translate it, so be patient with my English. Iknow, that I have lot to improve, especially in grammar.
He went on horseback with his squad on back of the marching army and he didn't have to engage in already lost battle even when he was informed about it. Even though in afternoon, when was main part of French army fleeing in chaos from battle, he ordered his knights to charge the enemy. It seems that it was spontaneous action, because only 100 men followed. His son Charles IV. engaged in battle before him, but when he was injured by arrow, he has wisely returned from battle. But not his father, who as blind had nothing to loose and vice versa looked for death worthy of his chivalric reputation. So, this was some kind of suicide. Before battle, he ordered to fasten his horse between horses of Jindrich Mnich (Henry Monk in English) and Jindrich z Klingenburka (Henry from Klingenburk) and followed by mostly loyal charged into his last battle. Before charge he told: By the God, it will never happen, that bohemian king will flee from battle.

I want ask you how do you convert pictures into bif. I've tried bifreader an it produced something pretty ugly. I've spotted, that bohemian campaign ends like german. So I've modded some picture and dont know how to convert it into bif. 16-bit tga.

Anyway not every faction should be all around balanced IMO. yeah, add good spearmen to byzantines. Why not add longbow to danes? Oh and lets add mounted crossbow to muslim. You see you cant balance out a faction so they have no weakness cause you like them. In fact the more I am playing the cumins the more I like they dont have dedicated foot soldier. I recruit local population I conquer like Estonian Infantry and whatnot and then use them. Gives it sorta like a conquering barbarian feel. I also change the music for the cumins to 2 cause they are pagan and it suites them IMO. One last thing BKB: The cumins cant make emmisarys, spies or assassins. Shouldnt this be possible? It isn't for balance. It is for approaching of reality. Byzantines used good anticavalry spearmen, not those present in MTW. Byzantine army was balanced, not like Kunam.

I have given pagans emissaries and also something else which is very cool. More later on that.
Talking of Byzantines i gave them a good unit, Klibnophoros, very heavy cav armed with lances and bows, very good unit. They be in patch released this evening

For the high, can you play as Mongols? Or will you have to mod it in yourself? I must admit, I'm itching to get my hands on those new Mongol (or Korean I guess) units.

Sweet What exactly are new with the cumins ? Also i must ask, Do the cumins have an ending? I am halfway through europe with them (conquered the steppe allready), and was wondering if I win will they have there own ending?
No I don't think so - I probably copied someone else's. Believe me, you'll want to start again when the new update comes out.
Sounds good. One last thing... The cumins had kings? Im not too familiar with Cuman history, and cant find much on the web. If they did then ok, but if not perhaps something like Warleader or something in place of King? maybe War Chief?

Is it normal that there are no dead bodys on the battlefield or am I the only one?
I am playing as the Almoravids. Nubian units got all the wrong unit icon wich makes it hard to keep them appart in battle, exept for Nubian spearman.
I would also like to see the correct unitpictures in the discription menu (strategic map).
And Building farmland in Sahara has no effect. Ok logic.

The Battle Unit Icons will be sorted out for the final release. Info Pics could prove difficult but I'll have a go.

I'm not sure about the Cumans structure of nobility or leaders. I don't thing it would sound right with war chief. Maybe Khanate? But i don't know, i do soem research on the subject

As for the Cumans, they probably had a Khan, or a Khagan. Just a guess though.
I believe the Cumans were ruled by Khans.
It'll be Khans in the final release then if that is the case.

Awww you cant make them Khans for this update? Does it require alot of work? Anyway will be nice to see them in proper title... Just doing seem right having a duke, dukes and nobles. LOL
