I hope you like the mod ... apparently you have suffered to install it ... I hope it repays your affords ... on the other hand it would be good to download all the stuff flip, and Antalis:: have made.
The next update will have the new units from DJ and some balancing of factors, ... Peoneans and Persians. There is a lot of work to be done still. Question ... Would you like a relish of the existing mod with the new unit graphics, the Peoneans and the new Unit values?

I've been testing DJ units in HTW, changing a lot some files and lines. Its great. There is a problem, but probaly its mine error, with the LT_slingers (light sfendoniste ). Can you chek? Also, dont forget the error in Tebian Band name.
I'm puting my hands in Light Wave 7.0, but its hard.
Will need a generic horseman bif to include. It may be used in other units. are you there DJ?

If you can tell me convincingly that you're willing to put effort into making unit graphics then I will help you into making the first steps. I will then send you files for animation and the only thing you need to do is make the models and textures, the rest is provided by my files. If only small changes are needed you can whip out a new unit every 2 days. Cavalry is also extremely easy, you only need to build an infantry model and my files take care of the rest.
In return, I would appreciate it if you would help me write a guide where it is written how people can make use of my files to make new models. I probably know too much and might go into too many details that obscure the bigger picture.

It would be strange, if it would be random, so that SPARTA_LAKONIA is randomly in ATTIKA and so on.

At the moment I am working on bringing v.1.0 in to v.1.2 status with the units of DJ ... and some reuse of them for other units until he makes the rest of the list. At the moment I will try to get a 8 shaped shield in 3D to bring it to a new standard.

My problem with the northern tribes is I have no idea what there names were ... I only have seen one Skythan name "Astaharshes" or something.
There might be a solution to this ... in northern Greece there is a minority called Pomaks ... apparently they are what is left of the ancient Thracians ... the problem is that they have long been Muslim and most probably the use Arabic names http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cg...cons/frown.gif ... due to other misconceptions they are count as Turkish minority ... which males thinks even worse to finding anything about there past. Illyrians, Peoneans and Thracians most probably have common heritage and they were closely related ... Good job ... but you have it way to big ... the poor guy can't turn his head. The Corinthian Helmet goes from the back of the head till just a bit lower than the chin so it leave the neck unprotected (the point of choice for the hoplites). I think you should talk to DJ ASAP ... no reason to reinvent the wheel here.

Very good, now that I see that you have the right attitude, I'll tell you a secret: Keep it simple
Our ME:TW team has been strenghtened by another modeller and he's also making very detailed models. But you will lose alot of details when rendering. A eye is nothing more than a pixel. Komninos talked about the size of the helmet, well forget that, you won't be able to see the difference ingame. When making models for MTW keep it simple and keep checking the result by rendering it in the required format. You're not making models for full screen renderings, no, they're meant to represent tiny little soldiers in MTW. Here's my Hoplite, compare its simplicity with your overcomplex model:

Next make sure that you follow this tutorial. You don't have to make the exact same model, but this tutorial almost contains everything that I am using. You should know how the UV-mapping proces works. Also download UV-imaginator which is a plug-in for LightWave (get the right version) to make new UV maps. This makes sense if you read the tutorial.
I didn't help you immediately since I first wanted you to explore LightWave before I talked about stuff that you wouldn't understand. I will create a filepack with my Hellinic models and all the necessary action scenes, ie walking, fighting, dying, etc.
After you have received these files, you only need to make a simple model, or if you're clever, adjust a model I made. Don't feel guilty or pride, if I were you adjust my models, they're optimised for the process You may spend hours and hours with the exact same result, or you may spend these hours creating 5 new units. Your choice.
Then you exit LW modeller and start LightWave, with which you create scenes. As said I already have created all the scenes, the only thing you need to do is save your model as model.lwo in a folder, open up a scene and hit "Render Scene" or press F10. Then open another scene untill you have done all the actions and angles required for a BIF. When you've reached this stage, I will tell you the next step, which is about using Wellingtons utility to process the rendered images. If you're this far you're 1 hour away from succesfully creating a new unit BIF

About the display of weapons. I've told before that I'm only delivering the unit graphics. I leave the correct placement of weapons and shields to others. It's been some time ...
I am trying to finish up with the time frames then I will go to the buildings ... getting the tech tree down is a mess. Problem is that you should be able to build the hoplite units fast since these were the "only" units used by the Greeks at the time. 95% of the maps are made with the help of pictures of real landscapes.
So if you play Lykia: This landscape really exists.
Sure I used artistic freedom, but the character of the landscape was my target I wanted to reach.
I made also three landscapes, which don´t have a province in the mod (because of theire small size and Silicy is out of the camp.maps area):

Good idea but what ever you do don't change to Muslim but heretics I have used Muslim as the eastern faction and you might get strange rebellions of Greeks in Lydian army types

whats wrong with editing the files manually i prefer it that way at least im doing the work, not someone else's program it may take longer sometimes but other times it is more sure (at least for me it is) to do it manually and you don't depend on something to do the work for you.

The editors give you the ability to change values but these values are not in a unified format i.e. you go and change a specific units attack. This can be OK but it will bring great imbalances ... anyway you get some you lose some.

I am very pleased at the moment ... after singing the Dirladada (means nothing in Greek but it is a fun song) of 30min now and dancing around like a creased man like I have promised my self I am happy to announce that my tool for buildings is working 100% now. This means I can alter, add or delete buildings at weal from the file with minimum effort http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cg...cons/joker.gif
What is next ... I will try to add two new buildings for Muslim and fix some stuff in it. If that works too I will proceed to build a tech tree. The main idea under that it will be to get the units you need ASAP. Most of the latter build up will be done to increase your income from trade and other activities. Now these buildings will increase the number of slaves "heretics" in the city. So you will need cultural buildings to counter that.

Antalis, nice work, I was thinking on that but I struggled with the lack of resources, firts of alll for the princesses. Why did you make the emissaries in black and white?

Edit: I´ve forgotten to write in the readme, that you must delete all portraits of kings in campmap/Portraits/Hellenic/Catholic/King and in the campmap/Portraits/Hellenic/Muslim/King folder before copying the new portaits in this folders.

Antalis, you did a huge work, I dont get how the game pik those portraits, aleatory, I gess. My self used the generals for the kings, and there is some flexibility here.
Mabe if you put just 5 portraits inside a folder, no problem. I tried not to mix potery pics with sculpture pics. Thats why I had a problem to find pics for princesses. We need Komninos advice here, to get a standart Portraits folders configuration. Because we need also some guys for the Norther Tribes, and Oriental ones.
But, great work, I'm using your files.
Yes the northern tribes and oriental states are a problem.
There are so less pictures in the net.
If you use the kings portraits in classical time than the portraits are right: Athen has Perikles, Sparta Leonidas, Macedonia Alex. t. GR., but in the other periods, all messed up.
I´ve also made an Assassin and a Spy-portrait pack.
I´ll upload it tomorrow.
btw.: I tried to implementate a few prince-portraits, but they never was showen, only general pics.
Have prince portraits no function?
I found that also, princes dont apear.
