Re: Megas Logothetes' and Senators' Reports
1185 Megas' Report
Military Affairs:
There was one more battle last year, with Andronikos Komnenos chasing a rather cowardly Turkish prince.
There was some disbanding this year, most notably of the broken and defeated soldiers who have been hiding from the Latins off the coast of Venice for many years. This is expected to save us well over 1,000 in upkeep.
I've decided that the first half of my term will be more focused on military affairs, specifically bringing the Venetian and Turkish wars to a swift end. Money brought home by our soldiers from foreign settlements will be used to build some of the settlement upgrades that make their necessity felt more every year.
While some needless troops were disbanded, overall our military has increased somewhat. Units were recruited at Corinth for House Asteri's Ammonathas to take to complete his army. I will likely also be recruiting a few units for my army, which I plan to take to the Venetian front. There was also recruitment on our borders with the Latins at Belgrade and Ragusa, and I understand Senator Andreas is moving to Ragusa, which will bring its garrison up even further.
Troops were also recruited for the Turkish front, both in Adronikos' territory where there have been incursions by the Muslims, and also at Acre, the latter of which I hope will join Senator Theo as the Levant is sorely lacking in armies at the front, the consequences of which will be revealed at the end of my report. Lastly, there were some garrison increases as per request.
Building:
Several economic building have been started, and a larger barracks prioritized by House Asteri is also under development. A fort has been built for Senator Theo to serve as a base from which to attack the Turks.
Miscellaneous:
Senator Kousinos has been adopted into one of the branches of the Royal Family. The rebel Methodios' territory has seen riots at Alexandria and Cairo, but these seem to have been expected as both settlements already had their military forces evacuated. He has also had better news in that his son has been declared King of Jerusalem.
A witch has been burned south of Tbilisi and some merchants have been rearranged to increase profits.
Rosanna Mavrozomis has received a marriage offer from a very reputable young man. I leave it to her family whether to accept.
The rebel Helarionas remains at large, but with the Emperor's blessing for his marriage I do not forsee that as a huge concern for the Empire at this moment.
I have saved the most troubling news for last. A large army of Turks last year assaulted the settlement for Damascus. The garrison was swiftly overrun. The vile Turks exterminated every Christian they could find, starting with women and children. The Turks must pay for this horrendous deed.
This occurrence need not have happened. The Levant has had no shortage of troops in past years, but they have not been utilized often. Gone are the glory days of the great leader Makedonios, but those days can return. I will throw my support behind Senator Theo, who has attempted to stem the tide of Turkish invaders. I also hope that Senator Adronikos will be able to come upon the Turks from the north, although this will be many years from now since he is far away and still gathering forces.
We do have two more very large armies in the area with quite capable leaders. I ask Senators Kousinos and Erotikos to move east to defeat the Turks. Even if Senator Erotikos feels constrained by his conflict with Senator Theo Petzeas I understand Senator Kousinos to be an Order member. The Order is in danger and every general in the area is needed.
OOC: I hope I got this report thing right. I tried to do everything asked of me. If I've forgotten anything I apologize.
The save is now open. There is a chance I will be distracted with a take home test I have tomorrow night, but I would still like everyone to be prepared for the save to be taken at 1:40 PST Tuesday Night.
One issue from the turn is that Methodios' son's new title severely lowers his loyalty. There is some risk of his rebelling (his loyalty is down to one). :sweatdrop:

That province belongs to Methodios himself, not his son. It should be given to Methodios himself, which should be easy since they're in the same stack. Since Methodios already has maxed loyalty (ironic), the drop from the Jerusalem title shouldn't make any difference to him.
Are there any marriage offers up?

Yes, that was perfectly fine. No permission is needed for adoptions/marriages for an Inactive player.

Re: Megas Logothetes' and Senators' Reports
Note: There is a pending PvP battle between Helarionas Anargiros (YLC) and Andreas Dermokaitis (Marcus Agrippa). The turn may not be ended until this is resolved, nor may either of the above players make any further moves. However, Marcus Agrippa has not been online in 2 days and has not posted anywhere on the Org in the last 2 months. Due to this inactivity, I am not going to be too lenient on the time limits. If Marcus Agrippa does not re-appear to surrender or fight the battle within 48 hours, it will be fought as an AI Battle (AI controls both sides of a Custom Battle).

Re: Megas Logothetes' and Senators' Reports
I'm going to render nothing more than a personal opinion here, but this forced PvP battle appears in conflict with rule 5.1. It states that once you declare war on an opponent, that player can have one free turn of movement. IC, if I'm Andreas, I'm running for Ragusa and force a siege.
It would seem to me that since Helarionas has only now officially joined the Tagaris rebellion, his declaration of war is only effective at the start of this turn, and by Rule 5.1 should allow Andreas (whoever controls his avatar) to have his free move. My :2cents:
If nothing else, I would just ask for a clarification on when the declaration of war on the part of Helarionas took effect so that I have a clearer understanding of the rules.

You're entirely correct. I simply added YLC to the Tagarian Rebellion civil war, then later looked and saw that he was at war with Marcus Agrippa and went from there. I erred by forgetting that he had just now become a rebel. Under the new rules for rebels, when a person becomes a rebel they make the declaration of war:
Quote:
Penalties:
(1) When this rank is obtained, the Rebel is considered to have made an automatic declaration of war against all Senators who are still part of the Empire. Rebels cannot make Peace Treaties.
This means that YLC just declared war on Marcus Agrippa this turn. Thus, under 5.1, Marcus Agrippa can attack YLC this turn, but YLC cannot attack Marcus Agrippa until next turn. Thank you for pointing out this error. The above battle is now CANCELLED unless Marcus Agrippa appears and states that he wants to fight it. The game may proceed as normal, and the turn may be ended whenever the Megas wishes. YLC may not attack anyone except the Basileus this turn, as the other two people he was at war with are now (ironically) his allies.
(Yes, this game is now so complex that even I have difficulty remembering all the rules all the time.)

Re: Megas Logothetes' and Senators' Reports
Oh, oops! Terribly sorry! I thought it was valid, thinking I was already at war with Marcus Agrippa before joining the official Rebellion. Please forgive me :shame:

Re: Megas Logothetes' and Senators' Reports
1186-1187 Megas' Report
Military Affairs:
There was some further recruitment these past years, mostly low level militia for some garrisons, plus the topping off of my army and some requested troops in castle's in the east and Anatolia. Andronikos is now ready to march south against the Turks, and I hope Senator Theo picks up troops from Acre for his own eastern battles. Ammonathas and I stand ready to battle rebels and Latins in the west.
Economic:
Here things are more dire. Imperial administrators vastly underestimated the amount of florins that would be brought in this last year, counting income from rebel settlements. As a result the Empire finds itself in some debt. I will cut costs as much as possible to fix this, and with the income soon to be received from retaking Damascus as well as other Venetian and Turkish settlements I expect us to be back in the black shortly.
The administrators that gave me incorrect figures have been hung for their incompetence.
The Rebellion:
Fortunes seem to have turned against the rebels somewhat this year. The settlements of Cairo and Alexandria rebelled against Methodios, perhaps in hope of creating a new Egyptian state.
Meanwhile Helarionas has been evaded by Senator Andreas. Andreas knew his tiny army stood no chance against the traitor without needed reinforcements from Ragusa. With the help of some local scouts, he managed to make his way around Helarionas without the latter even noticing. Reaching the shore, the guards Helarionas used to protect his fleet were quickly overpowered. Those ships not needed were set alight, while the rest were taken out to sea beyond the rebel's reach. God's favor obviously shined on those loyal to the Komneni this season.
