Re: Random Thoughts Thread
Yeah I was telling myself that too.
"Somewhere in the world right now it is totally a respectable time to drink."
I swear Im not an alcoholic. Funny story, I was staying at my parents house for a bit last year around New Years and I had stashed a bottle of scotch in my backpack to take with me for New Years celebrations. As I was on my way out the door my parents pulled me aside and told me they were worried about how much alcohol I was drinking. Kinda hard to keep a straight face as I reassured them that I was not an alcoholic while carrying a rather large handle of hard liquor.

Re: Random Thoughts Thread
Should I be concerned that someone close to me has asked me if I would be sad if they would die several times over the last couple of years? I have autism and I'm oblivious in many social situations. I realised recently that these questions might be a sign of them considering suicide, but I'm not sure. She has in the past said that she considers herself a failure and wants more out of life.

Absolutely. Such questions are very much a cry for help in my experience. Oftentimes a single "yes" is all it takes for the person in question to change their mind on suicide. I have a friend who asked me almost the exact same question. A couple years later he told me that me answering yes helped him change his mind. Today he is doing a lot better but it kinda shows you how fragile the human mind can be.

Looks like I won't be having a work placement in Netherlands next summer, which is disappointing.
Now for Plan B... Scotland.

This is 100% correct. I think it comes down to knowing someone cares about them and their existence. Just my 2 cents.

Re: Random Thoughts Thread
It's when they stop talking about suicide that you really have to be worried.

That's a shame

Indeed. It would have been fun to meet up.

Re: Random Thoughts Thread
I'm recalling a Louis de Funes scene in which he and a bunch of soldiers or gendarmes are standing in a circle while Funes berates them. Then, they each take off their hats/helmets to bang on their own skulls, which consistently produces a hollow ringing. Finally, only Funes is left, and he too tries banging on his own head, again with a hollow ringing as a result. The scene was in color.
That's all I remember. Can you Europeans help out identifying the movie in which the scene occurs? Perhaps one of the Fantomas films?

Re: Random Thoughts Thread
I'm not going to skim dozens of films for one scene. I'm hoping that someone well-acquainted with his ouvre could figure out which movie the scene is from based on the context provided.

Re: Random Thoughts Thread
Don't underestimate the power of search engines.
For me, this suspiciously similar scene is number 4 on the result list for "louis de funes gendarme":

Unfortunately not where I started searching; but I'd never heard about Louis de Fune before you mentioned him here, so I had a handicap..

The cratering of the Dutch Skunk's career continues. Hope he's having fun riding the bench in Turkey.

Re: Random Thoughts Thread
Jenny Craig for men..
A Bloke calls the company and orders their 5 day – 5 kgs weight loss programme.
The next day, there's a knock on the door and standing before him a voluptuous, athletic, 19 year old babe from J.C. dressed in nothing but a pair of Nike running shoes and a sign around her neck..
The sign reads, 'If you catch me, you can have me.'
Without a second thought, he takes off after her. A few kilometres later huffing and puffing, he finally gives up.
The same girl shows up the next four days and the same thing happens.
On the fifth day, he weighs himself and is delighted to find he has lost 5 kgs as promised.
He calls the company and orders their 5 day – 10 kgs programme.
The next day there's a knock at the door and standing before him is the most stunning, beautiful, sexy woman he has ever seen in his life.
She is wearing nothing but Reebok running shoes and a sign around her neck that reads, 'If you catch me, you can have me'.
Well, he's out the door after her like a shot. This girl is in excellent shape and despite his best efforts, no such luck.
So for the next four days, the same routine happens with him gradually getting in better and better shape.
Much to his delight on the fifth day when he weighs himself, he discovers that he has lost another 10 kgs, as promised.
He decides to go for broke and calls the company to order their 7 day – 25 kgs programme.
'Are you sure?' asks the representative on the phone.. 'This is our most rigorous programme.'
'Absolutely,' he replies, 'I haven't felt this good in years.'
The next day there's a knock at the door and when he opens it he finds a huge muscular guy standing there wearing nothing but pink running shoes and a sign around his neck that reads, 'If I catch you, you're mine.'
He lost 31 kgs that week. .. ..

Re: Random Thoughts Thread
It's been months and I still have not found a job. Neither have any of my friends, but I would think I would have heard back from more by now. I can feel the depression slowly creeping in, I go outside to hang with friends for a few hours, maybe once a week. I apply for jobs, I read, I do online courses, I watch Netflix, I hit the gym a lot. Cheap laptop = no video games.
It's all too repetitive and isolating.

Re: Random Thoughts Thread
BTW, I still get by from tutoring. Actually, tutoring is borderline ludicrous and if I focused on making it a full time job, I could make bank. But it's not what I went to college for.

Radical thought, do what I do, have bare-knuckle fights in your home. It's fun and friendly, you will feel better. I don't have your problems but I would suggest it, we usually do them in the park but the wheather is bad right now. It hurts, but it's fun.

I don't think you are supposed to talk about this...

Okay I gotta ask people here, is it better to be clean shaven or have a beard that looks terrible and patchy?

Re: Random Thoughts Thread
Definitely go with the option you describe as terrible.

Depends on what you're doing in a given week.
